ABBA was the only group that was always able to be at the top of, or even ahead, of music trends, always producing the best and most unique instrumentation and arrangements, that by their own merits were and are, instantly attractive to the ear. The genius of ABBA is that they were the ONLY group who produced amazing melodies too, one song after the other, with interesting lyrics you could actually hear and voices and harmonies that were consistently and unbelievably tight. They sounded catchy and so easy on the ear, people thought they were simple melodies, but other artists who tried to do and play their music have all come away in amazement at how complicated the chord placements and progressions really were. ABBA is not easy for anyone to replicate in music or in their vocal harmony structure. I read somewhere that to date, ABBA is the best-selling group in history - not the Beatles, as is widely expected and accepted. I can believe that. They were the consummate group. I’m so glad they came along in my lifetime! 😊 Thanks Dereck for continuing to share your enjoyment of ABBA with us! 👍🏻
Your critical analysis of ABBA’s songs is second to none. I look forward to you reacting to The Visitors as the chorus has a similar feel to this and Lay all your love on me. Well done Dereck 👍
Magic , pure gold , gem and masterpiece all the ABBA songs , perfect execution , lyrics , voices , music , harmonies and melodies . Pure beauty , talent and extraordinary inspiration .
I was a huge fan and still know all the lyrics almost by heart. I was maybe 10. Later it was not cool to like ABBA. :) But now I appreciate them again. Childhood memories! When I kissed the Teacher was always one of my favorites. LJ
I recently played this song for my boyfriend. He does know ABBA but has not heard all of their songs. He thought it was Madonna at first. He knew Madonna song Hung Up...... was shocked to find out she sampled this ABBA song! I love ABBA!!!! And this is one of my favorite song of theirs! The vocals are always amazing, but the music is phenomenal!!!! That bass line, the exchanges, transitions..... the whole thing! Just amazing!
To me this song is pure perfection. Since i heard it the very first time in 1979 ( just a few days before i´ve seen ABBA live in concert) it´s one of the best popsongs of all time to me. Thank you for reacting to all those great ABBA songs. Please react to "Should i laugh or cry", only a B-side of "One of us", but Fridas voice is just amazing.
When the two ladies joined together..pitch perfect..when they blend...it is MAGIC...I love them when they executing a backing vocal or second voice...soothing...😀🤩🤗😊💛💖💙
This song totally floors the dancefloor especially since Madonna's "Hung Up." I love it. I remember dancing to this ABBA song and lip syncing with a diverse, mixed crowd in a dance club in 2019. By the way, this song was covered in well done Merengue version titled "Dame, Dame, Dame" by Jessica in 1998.
When I listened to this song for the first time, I was blown away, goosebumps by the chorus and totally in love with ABBA since then! And I totally recommend ‚Summer Night City‘ as the live version from 79‘s America‘s or was it the World Tour...? The vocals during the intro are sooo brilliant!
"So dramatic. It´s so damn good. What´s not to love about it, it´s amazing. It´s so clever. This is synth heaven. Oh my God. Magical. Holy crap. My goodness, incredible, This is an epic song. Very sexy. " I thinks Dereck likes this. So do I, one of ABBAs best.
With regard to Abba, I remember three phases of my life, the first when I was a child and listened to Abba because my father liked it and had records. The second phase, was in the 90s when I did not listen to Abba, I just wanted to know about the songs of that time and at most the 80s. The third phase was in 2005, when I started to rediscover Abba with more mature ears. Anyway, it was like falling in love again only in a much better way. Gimmie, Gimmie, Gimmie is an apotheosis of sounds.
Gimme, Gimme, Gimme is the perfect nighttime song for me. I like how u break down and explain the song parts at a time. You’re pointing out things I never noticed with my ears until now-and I own the song and album-one of my favorites by them. It reminds me of being in the clubs at 1 or 2 am doing my thing on the dance floor. ABBA is simply marvelous💯✌🏾🎶
Best Abba song for me (with Super Trouper). A magical moment in music's history. Everything is good in it : the beat, the bright bass, the synths, the melody and the vocal delivery : the way she kept the note on (no-one to hear my prayer), wow. Perfection.

Hello Dereck! Abba makes every of his songs so unique, just because they do not neglect and throw away an album and think this song will probably be a hit. Hey Derrick, you have to react to the ‘visitors’ it’s my favourite ABBA song and unlike nothing else they have done, lay all your love, gimme gimme, gimme are also my favourites too.... but the Visitors is so different for them and brilliant. David 😊
Apparently the 'echoey' sound common with a lot of Abba's vocals was achieved by building in a micro split second delay when the girls voices were layered during production. Not dissimilar to how a peal of bells works. Thus when layered several times the vocal takes on an almost chiming quality. This was why it was almost impossible to re create live. Amazing production and engineering on Abba's recorded music. .
I remember this album when it came out- one of the reasons I became a musician and composer! Pioneers waaaaay ahead of their time! And Agnetha and Frida- there are no words! 🎶😶 Honestly, their voices were precious precious instruments!

would also be cool to see you do some city pop
Apparently the 'echoey' sound common with a lot of Abba's vocals was achieved by building in a micro split second delay when the girls voices were layered during production. Not dissimilar to how a peal of bells works. Thus when layered several times the vocal takes on an almost chiming quality. This was why it was almost impossible to re create live. Amazing production and engineering on Abba's recorded music. .
I just noticed your 20k and 40K announcements were on ABBA reactions WHOO HOO!
I remember this album when it came out- one of the reasons I became a musician and composer! Pioneers waaaaay ahead of their time! And Agnetha and Frida- there are no words! 🎶😶 Honestly, their voices were precious precious instruments!
