Funniest part is at 4.20 when Agnetha and Frida are sharing some Fried Egg from the same plate. They were so humble that they would eat on the same cheap diners as the rest of the band, instead of having a 1st class meal for The 4 members and a 2nd class meal for all the support members
@@resireg Possibly because some of the "support members", band, and staff had a more upper class (or "posh") background than most of the core Abba members.
ABBA are so versatile from ballads to folk to rock - they have a song for everyone. What I like about this one is that it starts off with a classical vibe then jumps straight into disco - only ABBA can do this and they do it brilliantly 👏 🙌 🎶 😎 ♥ 👌
ABBA ist WUNDERBAR !!! Das ist ein Super Pop Gruppe in der Welt . Ich liebe ABBA musik für immer . Ich liebe ABBA von Herz . Danke ABBA und Schweden !!!
"As Good as New" is a song recorded in 1979 by Swedish group ABBA, and was used as the opening track on their Voulez-Vous album. The Vead vocals Are By Agnetha Fältskog. The song was released as a single in Mexico as a double A-side with "I Have a Dream", where it became ABBA's ninth ( 9 and final ) number-one hit. "As Good as New" was also released in Argentina and in Bolivia. --- For ex If You Count Waterloo then ABBA had 10 no 1 single hioit`s in the U.K. and ABBA has over 70 Single No1 Worldvide and over 60 Album No 1 Worldvide - ABBA is one of the few artists to have achieved success across ALL the continents of the earth. In the mid -1970s, were A B B A the most successful pop group in the world in all categories.
ABBA is harmony, the voices, the songs, the music. They could sing songs in that ABBA characteristic manner music fans will never tire out of listening to.
"Kisses of Fire" is another hit that was released as the B-side to the single "Does Your Mother Know" in April 1979, shortly before the release of the Voulez-Vous album.
Another great one along with Lovers (Live A Little Longer). The whole Voulez-Vous is a masterpiece, imho. Just wish As Good As New was a little longer.
As a lifelong Abba fan, I have no idea how I have never really noticed this track until today. I was aware of it and knew a few of the lyrics but never truly listened to it before. I think I'm going to have to listen through my headphones and 'discover' it again. Thanks, Dereck!
"As Good As New" is great but don't forget to also rediscover "If It Wasn't For The Nights". I still can't believe the album's two best songs weren't released as singles, though 'Chiquitita' and 'Does Your Mother Know" are pretty good too. With Abba it was always an embarrassment of riches.
THIS right here is my most favorite ABBA song EVER...it's just beautiful and incorporates so many elements of music, pure pop perfection...all the music boxes are checked here for sure!
My fave of the album and it is the album opener with a bang... amazing vocals by Agnetha and this disco classic fusion. I was sooo disappointed it was not released as a single worldwide...
Super Trouper came out when I was a freshman in high school. I had heard their songs on the radio throughout my childhood, but I fell in love with them because of the Super Trouper album. After that, I bought every one of their albums, My love for them has endured through the years! Whenever I try to get my friends to listen and enjoy them, they make fun of me as they think they were just a disco flash-in-the-pan group. It is so satisfying to see new listeners such as yourself becoming fans. Thanks so much for confirming my excellent taste in music after all these years!! ;). Keep up the great work!!!!
"As good as new" es la mejor demostración de la calidad musical de ABBA el conjunto sueco líder del europop que hace excelente un tema típico de la música disco norteamericana con una Agnetha brillante
This video has footage from the ABBA In Concert documentary, which I have on DVD, and the first part shows ABBA travelling through the US on their 1979 tour. Then later on in that documentary, you see ABBA performing at London Wembley Arena in the same year.
When I heard it for the first time back then, it must have been sometime in the spring after the song was published, I had the same feelings as you are describing about yourself. Even today the song doesn't leave me cold. An evergreen for me.
OMG! I’ve been waiting for you to do this track which is my favorite track off the Voulez-Vous album. I think you expressed every single reaction I have to this track everytime I hear it! I can still recall the day I bought the album, brought it home and put the needle down on side 1, track 1 “As Good As New” and WOW! my favorite - beautiful strings - and then off on a musical ride of joy! The best album lead off track of all their albums. The message of the song is positive and you might want to give “Lovelight” a listen, similar type of lyrical theme.
Dereck, I'm glad you chose this song to react to! It really is a great one. I only discovered this a few years ago, and like you, fell in love immediately. Thanks! ~Chris
Great song with excellent memorable melody, wonderful arrangement and mighty vocals. ABBA at their best. Shame they never released it properly as A-side single. Only in Mexico where it became number 1 hit.
I grew up listening to them. I got teased all the time but I could give a damn. Amazingly talented. Yes, this was one of my fav tracks. Saw them in concert in 1979.
It was not their last number 1 hit, maybe from the V-V album? I know that it went to number 1 in Mexico, where it was also released as a single. I always looove your ABBA reactions, they are amazing. I feel that Angeleyes is already coming, and makes me so happy!
yep got the mexican 7", but as far as i know it got only released in some latin american territories, but not in Europe or the US... unfortunately... it had I Have A Dream in spanish as B-Side... as far as i remember..
So glad you're liking ABBA! I was 20 in 79. What a great time to be young! We had great music. And the 80s were just around the corner!! 10 more years of great music.
This might be my favorite reaction so far. It brings joy to me to see it give you joy. Imagine how lucky some of us were/are to have grown up with this music in our life. I like how you said something like, music isn't like this anymore. As ABBA moved on in their career, they just got better and better.
A legendary performance by Gary Barlow and Agnetha Fältskog's at Children In Need Rocks - BBC You should react to this one - Agnetha is back on stage after a little break like 25 years needless to say - she still got it
OMG!!! You just HAVE TO listen to "Hole in Your Soul" and "Kisses of Fire"!!! They have very similar style to "As Good As New". I'm sure you'll just love it. 😁😊🤩 And you still didn't react to 2 of their biggest hits: "I Have a Dream" and "Thank You for the Music". I'm just saying 😅😁
Yes...that is a beautiful song. How it was never released as a single is beyond me. There is even a video on RUclips with Agnetha singing it alone, and why that video was not included on the ABBA video collection?...is also double beyond me😨!
It was Bono (yes, he of U2 fame) and I cannot for the life of me remember what he actually said - but he was effusive in his praise of ABBA, and recommended that if you want to hear GOOD music, you should listen to ABBA.
In the book "Bright Lights, Dark Shadows" it is mentioned that Bono should have looked like as if he was forced to say that. Perhaps he changed his mind, but I don't know.
Another hidden gem from the Voulez-Vous album would be “Lovers (live a little longer), arguably the track where ABBA got successfully funky. Their vocals are both silky smooth and siren-like on that one. They could do everything together.
When this song came out, it was featured in the 1st track of side A of Voulez Vous album....and I loved it the 1st time I heard it....loved it so much that I played it again and again, so catchy and upbeat, then theres Voulez Vous, Angeleyes, Does Your Mother Know, If It Wasnt For The Nights, Kisses of Fire.......oh my, one of their best albums, ever
The Voulez-Vous album opens with this banger, and then drops straight into the song Voulez-Vous. Pound for pound it's about the strongest two punch opening a record could have.
Cool video. There's no vocoder in this song, though :) ABBA used vocoders on other songs but what you hear in this one is just straight vocal tracks, tons of them, layered and mixed. Keep up the good work!
I was a young teen when they came out in the US. I use to save all my money just so I could buy the LP. Every song on every LP was a Hit. I can not think of a single song they did that was OK. Every song was awesome.
The Beatles did clapping in many songs including I Want To Hold Your Hand. ABBA and the Beatles-the best. Love this song. Glad you did too. Waiting for you to do Andante, Andante.
Three or four years ago, I discovered you on RUclips reacting to ABBA. I was curious why someone would react to them, but after listening, I was pleasantly surprised to find that I really liked their music! Yes, I'm a Swede who never listened to ABBA. I believed all their music sounded like Dancing Queen, which I hated. I was a musician studying at the Royal Music Academy, and my music was classical and jazz. But today, I love ABBA, Chris Kläfford, and, at last, *the biggest Swede ever (in music) - **_Tommy Johansson!_* I guess you heard him - or not? If not - please watch that music genius! You'll never regret that! (He's playing 10-12 instruments and as a singer - Wow! Who in the world could beat him? None! He has made some ABBA songs-listen to his rendition of "The Winner Takes It All" (among many other covers from the 1970s and 80s!). He truly is a master in our music world today, yet he is still rather unknown. (But not for too long.)
the first album i ever owned, given to me by Mum & Dad on my thirteenth birthday in 1979 the magic & wonder i felt, hearing Agnetha's vocals on the magical "As Good As New", the first track, is still with me ...will never leave me
Check out their 1981 single "Head Over Heels" . The video is very funny but the music and vocal harmonis are just incredible. Very influenced by Bach and other classical composers
This song always reminded me of “Mamma Mia”, in the best way possible....starts of with a pure ear-worm hook, gets into a groovy groove, throws you another ear-worm of a pre-chorus hook, then strips away the band for an almost a-capella chorus. Just pure genius! Should have been released as a single. It’s just so feel-good:). Now it’s time to listen to “Hole in Your Soul”......another sonic wonderland that brings you nothing but pure joy. Make sure you listen to the album version, not the live version

LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE THIS OPEN TRACK!!!! Incredible, they absorved the disco influences at the best form... Hope you do "HOLE IN YOUR SOUL"!!!! You wil fall from your chair!!!
You know you said this when you reacted to Steps *Something In Your Eyes"and send it with very ABBA-Esque... For the life of me I couldn't think of what song really mirrored it and then of course I watched this reaction and was like that's it that's what Steps sounded like in that song... This song right here !!!! They both sound very pop pop disco, They both sort of started with string arrangements... And both of them have a killer bridge and have a very abrupt ending... And let's not forget the biggest thing in both of the songs,... They both have a KEY CHANGE towards the end of the song! Yeah these two songs have quite strong similarities! Good for y'all Steps, And of course ABBA always!!!
Benny, Björn and producer Michael B Tretow was like a match made in Heaven!! They brought out the best from eachother. People say that the guitarist Janne Schaffer plays on a certain amount of ABBA songs. His own comments about it is it could be less songs or more songs. Cause the thing is that Benny who wrote the music usually didn't know how either read or write sheets. He explained his ideas for Janne who then had to "translate" it into sheets. Besides many times they had no title for the song when Janne got It! The Voulez Vouz album is their only album that was partly recorded outside Stockholm and Sweden. The first recording sessions took place in Miami and the album is clearly influenced by the soundtrack from Saturday Night Fever. Btw you should check out Janne Schaffer solo for example "It's Never too Late" featuring the Porcaro family of Toto!
Great reaction! ABBA are immortal and has inspired so many others in all possible ways. For me personally, it is the unorthodox bass-playing by Rutger Gunnarsson. Especially in "Money, money, money". Another Swedish band that you should check out is Dirty Loops. They started making covers of Justin Bieber, Britney Spears and so on. Now, they are under the wings of Quincy Jones. "Baby", "Circus" is something to start with and it will turn your head around. Then you can just go on with whatever you want. Everything is absolutely amazing. The latest cover is MJ' "Thriller" with Corey Wong and his brass-section. Mindblowing. Cheers from Italy!
On of the most unknown and best songs of Abba.
Thank you Agnetha, thank you Abba, you are just brilliant in everything!❤❤💙💙
They are four super talented polite humans who never slagged off other artists.

Benny Andersson is the greatest melody writer in pop.
Yeap. Could not agree more. He's a master and genius in creating melodies!
Didn't he and Bjorn work together when composing?
@@diy_lothar4422 They did collaborate on songs, but it was mostly Benny who wrote the music and the melodies and Björn who wrote the lyrics.
Michael Tretow ....what can we say...he helped create prominent masterful works of art with these guys all the way through their career and beyond!
*Got to love that guy, M. Tretow! He deserves 100% credit!!!*
"Kisses of Fire" is another hit that was released as the B-side to the single "Does Your Mother Know" in April 1979, shortly before the release of the Voulez-Vous album.
Yes. And definitely one of my favorite songs.
Another great one along with Lovers (Live A Little Longer). The whole Voulez-Vous is a masterpiece, imho. Just wish As Good As New was a little longer.
You are a pure joy! You had me grinning from ear to ear! One of my top 5 ABBA songs 😁😘
YES up there with “if it wasn’t for the nights” for me. Voulez Vous is definitely pure auditory bliss
You are soooooo right! Music like this does NOT happen anymore 😥
This track has got it all happening! It should've been a single.

'My love, my life' is another brilliant ABBA track - more in the vane of slipping through my fingers than the up tempo ones
Ugh my love, my life is a masterpiece
Have you seen the rework of the song Björn and Benny gave for Mamma Mia 2? Man, I cried LOTS...
Yes, one of their best.
Hi Dereck, I died laughing at your enthusiasm. your reaction was very spontaneous and true. loved it.
Agnetha is just brilliant lead singer.
I just love her voice!!!! ❤❤❤

Seriously one of the most underrated ABBA songs... one of my all time favourites
All ABBA's songs are gold!!! ALL..!!
Wonderful reactions by Dereck. Wonderful melody by the best pop group in this world. And they still are - lovey to see them back. As good as new.

From ABBA's 1979 Album Voulez Vous As Good As New with Lead Vocals by Agnetha Falskog AKA ANNA.
One thing that i truly love of ABBA, Is that most of their songs are actually based on their real life experiences.

The best is Agnetha and Frida sharing some fried egg from the same plate at 4.20. Probablg the place was so crowded that they had to split their meals
They make me happy. How could you not smile to this?

'Lovelight' is also one of ABBA's most amazing songs also try 'Dream World' which is my favourite ABBA song.

Hahah I literally just recommended this on your "if it wasnt for the night" reaction! awesome!!!
I am a diehard fan of Abba since the 80s and I've only recently discovered this masterpiece! Enjoyed watching your reaction😊
The Voulez-Vous album opens with this banger, and then drops straight into the song Voulez-Vous. Pound for pound it's about the strongest two punch opening a record could have.

Great reaction to an amazing song :)
This is the opening track on the Voulez Vous album again a strong track just like When I Kissed the Teacher, the opening track on Arrival.
The Beatles did clapping in many songs including I Want To Hold Your Hand. ABBA and the Beatles-the best. Love this song. Glad you did too. Waiting for you to do Andante, Andante.

the magic & wonder i felt, hearing Agnetha's vocals on the magical "As Good As New", the first track, is still with me

The truth is the whole album is perfect, i remember when it came out. was so chic and fun.
Some of ABBA's music is almost always mistakenly label as Disco when in reality their music is on a league of its own.
Check out their 1981 single "Head Over Heels" . The video is very funny but the music and vocal harmonis are just incredible. Very influenced by Bach and other classical composers

My favourite track on the album!! ❤️
It’s not vocoder in the chorus, it’s actually them harmonising! Nobody has ever been able to emulate the brilliance of their harmonies
One of my all time favourites
The verse on the song slaps. I really enjoyed your reaction on this one.
Yes, you finally did a reaction to my favorite ABBA song. "As Good as New" I've been waiting along time for this. Thanks!!!
listen to 'hole in your sole' and 'That's me'. I think you like it
Great reaction!
