This was one of my biggest gripes with the game and just how unrealistic the crosswind component was. Good to see it’s being reworked
Wasn’t it already present to a lesser extent maybe? I always have to use some opposite ailerons during my crosswind take-off and crosswind landing. And it seems you forgot to talk about the Airbus behavior at the end ^^
Yes, to a much lesser extend. The effect has seen great rework in SU15 and is much, much better now.
@@A330Driver thanks for your reply, can’t wait for that and also the new friction!
It was definitely already present in the C152 and C172?? When there was a cross wind it blew it over!
Also, with the 737 PMDG, you can experience all this right now. I’ve learned it the hard way.
I just hope it's not as exaggerated as the crosswind effect has been on weathervaning. I have flown all kinds of aircraft for nearly 20 years, and I have never seen an aircraft need full rudder to keep the aircraft straight in a five or 10 not crosswind. In the flight simulator, the aircraft behaves as if it is in a 30 knot direct crosswind.
I needed a lot in the J160 and I think, the Sportstar. Though that was quite a few years ago and I must admit, I didn't really focus on the amount of travel used. I just "did it"! They are both very light aircraft though.
Agree especially as soon as the aircraft starts rolling. And no it's not because of P-factor or torque.
not... not? knot.

oh... "sim update 15"
you had me very confused there :D
Excellent information and tutorial!!
Good morning from Jacksonville Fl
good morning
Good morning! Looking forward to be in Florida again later this month!
This is already happened. In the ATR I had a few wing strikes leaving Jersey in bad weather.
Great video, thanks! I am looking forward to use it, it definitively feels too easy now in strong crosswinds 😀
yep, it certainly is!
That's interesting, and a good point I look forward to this feature and wonder what about the Fenix or Airbus A3XX side?
I will add that it's important to have decent rudder pedals for this to work. I just updated an old pair of Logitech pedals with a "noisy" potentiometer with new Velocity One pedals, and all of the sudden I can sort of pull off a crosswind landing. Need a bit more practice though!
The a2a Comanche is a great plane to experience this realistic behavior. Even prior to su15 with the way a2a incorporates its technology into the flight physics. Currently with su14.. if I try to do this with say the pmdg 737.. it doesn't work as it should in real life. Maybe after su15 it'll be all good. Fingers crossed ..
Nooo I was so curious to hear about crosswind landing on Airbuses 😭
@@737-Sim-Pilot try to add some punctuation marks please. So hard to read.
@@thirstofficer2332 What are you my English Teacher. Plus You don’t mentally add punctuation, I feel like that’s kinda basic. Furthermore I typed shity becuase I was on the toilet.
I read blue prints with no punctuation all day. I had no problem. Lol. One time I asked the engineer why no punctuation. He said it was a list. Its a list. They don't get punctuation. Lol

@@janisbanis6882 *I’ll report you to RUclips.*
Very good video. The A2A Comanche has the feature without su15. Most likely because they have their own sim in the sim :)
Lesson number 8 of my PPL training! Crosswind landings love it! (not really).🥴
Surface winds are very dramatic in msfs. Sometimes I'm full rudder just to exit the runway with a 10kt wind and have to end up differential braking
I've never experienced it that bad yet. Never had control difficulties with a 10kt wind. I agree though that at higher winds it's easy to get into trouble if you're not really on top of things. And even then it's impossible to maintain a centerline as I've - unintentionally - demonstrated in this video during the takeoff as well.
the comanche also does simulate this really well.. good thign im not a pilot lol
Interesting. Thought this already existed, but I thought the cause was due to the propeller rotating in one direction. I will obviously have to practice take offs and landings again once the update is out. Do you know if the Duke have the new ground physics where the tyres have flex in them, like the C172? I hope all payware planes get these updates soon so handling becomes consistent across all planes. It could get tricky trying to remember which planes have which effects enabled or not.
It existed to some extend, but got a great overhaul. The Dukes - as far as I know - have all the new ground physics.
Is there a way to visualise what's happening with the airstream over the airframe / control surfaces with developer tools to show the effect of aileron during take off / cruise / landing?
Yes.
Are you referring to the new ground friction model in SU15? If so it's not enabled by default. Each developer has to activitate it and set the necessary parameters. Since SU15 isn't out yet I highly doubt JustFlight enabled on the Duke. If this is not what you're talking about, what did I miss?
It is enabled for the Duke, the installer checks if you're using SU15 and enables the updated ground handling if you are.
I am happy to See my Home Base EDMA.
The windsock is inverted.
They still need to work on rudder control. It's so difficult to maintain the centerline in just about any aircraft I fly.
skill issue
@@jonnie2bad if it's a skill issue then you should be concerned about how a real airline pilot was all over the runway himself in this video lol
I thought MSFS had this all along? I guess it depends on what flight dynamics there is on individual addons
Hi Peter, it existed to a certain extend, but it's seen a lot of refinement. For instance the sim would not have toppeled you over onto the wing in previous versions. Now it does.
Thanks for that. Your enthusiasm for flying and all it can involve is infectious! I did have a question on tyre drag though. From what I've seen this is not currently modelled and is supposedly coming in SU15? Will this make the x wind operations a bit more realistic? I find the sim a lot more sensitive than the real world - trained last year in a 152 on the highveld in South Africa and we had some serious x winds a few times! Seems easier in the real world than in the sim??
Finally!! The pmdg 737 really needed this!! FD2sim will be happy
FD2Sim thinks that it's normal for a 737 to wingstrike in 10kts crosswind like the Zibo does. Of course he'll be happy.
Why does it seem like it's still riding on ice? More wheel contact my foot.
4:25 Sim F^@$n update 15 and still there are two windsocks pointing to compete opposite direction.
Yep 😂😂😂
It was already there. Been doing that for years in msfs
No, it wasn't. Try the following: Take an airplane, insert the maximum crosswind and just don't use the aileron on the takeoff. It'll lean to the side, but won't actually make contact between the wing and the ground. The effect has seen lots of refinement with SU15.
@@A330Driver I already did. yesterday at Denver centennial I had to do just this. I removed the beta a month ago.
@@casstephens3124 How did you remove it? From what I have heard you can't remove the beta but just exit it which means you're just not gonna get new versions of the beta.
@@casstephens3124 So you mean Asobo are just making it up that they've greatly improved the effect? You know more about the sim than the developers do I guess.
@@ChaseB1896 they may have "greatly improved the effect" but I can tell you with sim update 14, I needed aileron at kapa while in light rain or I would have tipped over. I was using the C337 from KOMA.
Hello Emmanuel. I'm very curious about how the process of base training is going on? Is it being conducted under VFR or IFR?
VFR
@@jfyfe67 I've actually got reply from captain, base training is special IFR flight with visual approaches
Indeed, nice to see they implemented this finally.
Just a shame they took 4 years for that 😆
May i ask about your yoke sensitivity settings ? My yoke is too difficult to control, the slightest pitch input gives 1000 ROC can’t keep it straight and level at all
Hi, it's simply zero. I haven't gotten around a plane yet that was really uncontrollable with neutral sensitivity. In my opinion the sensitivity settings are overrated, just keep them at neutral, that's what most addons are designed for.
You might wanna adjust your rudder pedal sensitivity. Looks very twitchy on ground.
That's just the sims low speed physics. Indeed I tend to say if at all I should *reduce* my sudder sensitivity because it feels far to agressive during takeoff roll, but that would only make the problems worse when winds kick in. Just the sim's imperfections...
Hi Emi,
Is it a good idea to start flying su15 or just wiat also has pmdg implemented this already.
Hi, you can try it if you want to, but always keep in mind that betas will inevitably have bugs. If you're just looking for a casual simming experience and want the most "undisturbed" simming experience I'd recommend to stay away from the betas and just enjoy the public versions until the betas are stable. If you're however eager to see new things early and don't care about the bugs then you can give the beta a try.
Alright I think I’ll do a flight becuase it can’t make anything worse lol. MY 738 doesn’t work lol the efb won’t update and reverted to 1.1.1 and pmdg couldn’t help may ask again but I will see. but think I’ll give it a try thank you also who can I report bugs to.
Why is it so difficult to ground steer on takeoff and higher speeds. I find myself struggling to keep the plane straight (especially in the Fenix) even in normal taxi. Even the slightest rudder movement causes the plane to overcorrect and then I find myself focusing so much on keeping it straight that I miss the Vr. Is it that tough in real life in a big airliner or is it a sim issue. Indeed I don't stuggle as much in the PMDG
Have you tried playing with the sensitivity curve in settings?
@@danio1021 yes it's more of why does the plane not move forward in a more stabilized manner. It veers off a bit too unnaturally. Even when I get it centered, it starts drfiting too much. Agan the PMDG seems to be a little more comfortable. The Fenix is biggest offender. It's a chore. But i also noticed it in this video as well
@@jeffcupido4110 Put your rudder sensitivity to -20 on each and about 40% on reactivity. mess with those and if need to might have to add in some of deadzone too. Depending on the size of plane you fly will depend on rudder reactivity. In real world I fly a Cherokee 6 / 260 and doesn't take a lot of pressure to get rudder control but also fly a Conquest 441 twin and it takes alot more to get that thing under control until you get some speed up!! lol Good luck cause I had same issue until played with those settings.
It's a combination of Sim issue and control sensitivity. Also in RL, you have seat of the pants G-force that provides cues for your corrective control inputs.
Anyone else getting somewhat random CTDs with the Turbine Duke? I'm not having them with the piston models, but every time I've flown the turbine version it has crashed within an hour. Note that I have not a CTD in MSFS in 2 years until this. Now multiple CTDs only with the Turbine Duke. Open to suggestions on troubleshooting.
I haven’t had any. Flew it for about five or six hours only though.
@@A330Driver Strange. I've had 2 more now. (Essentially every time I fly the turbine variant). The Piston variant has absolutely no issues at all.
Is ground handling improved in su15?
Yes
What about ground friction? Is it any better?
Not sure to be honest. They said they did some work there, but I didn't really notice any.
Have to apply during taxi? As IRL
I don't think I saw any movement during taxi. Have to admit I never saw such effects in the C172 I flew in real life either though, despite being taught that I always have to apply into the wind aileron during taxi as well.
Another great tutorial Emi. Not sure if you are aware, but my system here has good bass response and there seems to something thumping in the audio on the video, which is not coming from the Sim, but your desk or set up, maybe when you are using your rudder pedals ?
Hi Eddie, I'm not 100% sure what it is either, but I know what you mean. Unfortunately I couldn't really find any immediate source for it. Those sounds even seen to occure when I'm not even touching my desk, joystick or anything else that might be related, but simply speak. I tried putting the mic on a stand, tried to mount it from the top so that it doens't even touch the desk, but all without success. Any ideas would be welcome!
@@A330Driver running your audio through a highpass filter to eliminate bass frequencies below a certain threshold would likely help
@@A330Driver If you are not using a mic filter over the head of the mic it could be popping due to air pressure changes as you speak. The head filter should stop consonants from causing pressure changes ( ie the thump ) that the diaphragm is picking up. I use a Rode mike here and it has a screen that prevents consonants from affecting speech. Might be worth putting the audio through something like Audacity whilst the video is playing and you should see where the spikes occur. That might point you towards the culprit.
Hi Emanuel,
I thought this was already a thing implemented.
Because it was. They've just changed it slightly. The Duke is already very susceptible to it in SU14. Still, a great tutorial how to handle it for people that somehow didn't notice it before :D
@@tadeus7258 gotcha 👍
@@tadeus7258 then asobo is lying. and they probably are not. They clearly state that the changed this. Why is this a point of contention ?

Does this game have windshear yet? I've always been told MSFS doesn't have windshear
Nope, it doesn’t
when is SU15 out?
Nobody knows for sure right now.
ah ok thanks :)
Interesting how it needed to be added as a 'FEATURE' and even 'baked in' as such to the addon itself potentially. It would stand to reason if they just simply modeled wind and lift physics accurately from the beginning then all these dynamic scenarios and effects would just take place naturally. the sim 'engine' as such should have these basic features/physics baked in at a ground level given its orientated around flight simulation. Haha, build a flight simulator then realize they should probably think about adding the elements which make flight possible. Brilliant stuff haha. Not hating, just having a laugh. I love msfs20. I'm thinking all this is surely what msfs24 is bringing to the table, surely haha, fixing the mistakes and constraints they made with 2020. HOPEFULLY!
If you really want to laugh then just look at the original MSFS adverts again, especially the topic where they talked about the flight dynamics and how wind would surround the plane and have all those effects everyone dreamed about... and then compare it with the release and what we got now four years later LOL
This is exactly my thoughts. It's things like this that make me keep X-Plane on my computer. I actually thought this was already simulated in the sim. TBH Microsoft as a game publisher have a catalog of games that never seem to be the best in class. A good example is Forza Motorsport on Xbox Versus Gran Turismo on Playstation. Gran Turismo for me for years has always been the better driving simulator compared to Forza. Forza has always felt arcadey...and this is a common theme across Microsoft's catalog. They seem to have all the money but somehow never publish the best softwares in class despite all the hype they pump in. I love MSFS though and play it more than X-Plane but whenever I go back to play X-Plane there is always something about how it feels that just outstounds me compared to MSFS. I do though still play MSFS more.
@@ikennamadueke9131 Xplane took years to get their flight physics accurate. and it would also estimate the same for msfs. I tried xplane again and it felt "behind". For most simmers will never be able to measure and experience every nuance and force impacting the aircraft to the extent a real airline pilot can. So, the emphasis is less on absolute nailed physics and more on the overall aviation experience from end-to-end. And here MS has leaped ahead.
But comparisons will eventually be all over consistently. And even pilots differ in opinion. So, for me at least 2 platforms are not the answer. We will evolve as MSFS does. The systems modeling is excellent and exactly like xplane, the physics will improve.
After 4 Years of MSFS still no weather radar simulation. Sooo sad.
Never ending Story su15🙄
