    Thanks for sharing 5 examples of beautiful dance that really showed off personality and originality. Most modern floor routines look like they are being done on the beam with extremely controlled elements and little or no personality. I am not sure how the Code of Points could be changed to better reward this beauty.

      They are able to dance because they don't have a dumb requirement that dance skills have to count towards their D score. When you have to do a bunch of turning leaps for value, the dance quality of the entire routine goes down.

      @@kandragraham5769 I doubt taking out leaps and turns would result in any change. First off, there are a select few of gymnast today who have performing capabilities reminiscent of these days along with having difficulties. New gymnast are completely capable of having artistic routines in this day and age. Secondly, most of these pre - modern routine have leaps and turns anyway. Third, taking out leaps and turns would just lead to more filler choreography in between tumbling passes. What's needed is deductions for lack of artistry. And lastly, taking turns and leaps out bc they're tiring wouldn't make sense bc the most tiring part of a routine is tumbling........

And I have to give you *huge* kudos on including Naimushina's routine. That was one hell of a fantastic display. Although I really love how powerful and dynamic current gymnastic is, I miss pretty much more artistic and dancing elements in the floor routines. Almost all floor routines nowadays look amazing but boring at the same time, as all that counts are the tumbling passes with little artistry and creativity in the routine

    • @kandragraham5769
      @kandragraham5769 3 года назад +1

      The problem is that the dance also counts for value. Try to add a turning switch leap to Oksana's routine and make her stop and prepare for 3 turns for bonus and tell me if she could have a flowing routine and win.

    • @anovemberstar
      @anovemberstar 2 года назад +1

      i think a lot more boring these days... the music isnt as great either, IMO. Even looking at US college gynmastics, which does have more artistry, its not as classic as these are, so it too does not compare. Id prefer the older style where artistry and expression meant as much as the skills shown. Focising only on skills and elements, and points on both floor and beam, there is no longer a measure for GRACE and EXPRESSION in gymnastics. Back when being a gtymnast was more than strength and skills ....but a bigger package

    Podkopayeva's has long been one of my most favorite routines - her ballet form is so great in that routine and the tumbling is powerful too. Her pirouettes in the middle of the routine are as perfect as any ballerina's, just delightful to watch. Omelianchik's is light and joyful,stunningly performed, but a little too childlike for my taste, though it seems fitting since she looks like she is about twelve or thirteen.
    You really liked Filatova's routine? That kind of surprises me. To me it just didn't come together with the music and the whole thing seemed heavy and slow. I could see her training and great execution, but that particular routine just left me cold, sorry to say. I had never seen Naimushina's routine before, but I thought it was absolutely delightful, beautifully choreographed and performed, less childlike, but very much like Omelianchik's, which seems to be derivative from Naimushina's stylistically - hard to pick between the two of them, really.
    Voinea's "modern' dance was not something I would ordinarily have cared much for, but it was exceptionally well choreographed for the style it was, and extremely well performed also. I frankly liked it better than Filatova's (surprising myself even). I guess for some reason I just did not connect emotionally to the slower and more dramatic pace in Filatova's. All of these routines are miles above anything seen in this 21st century though! True artistic gymnastics. Thanks so much for posting this, really enjoyable!

      I would respectfuly request that you find a copy of Filativa's routine where you can see more nuance, her facial expression, and all of the little flourishes and details that don't show up as well in this slightly blurry copy. Her musical interpretation is just exquisite. Each routine that she did through the years, so different one from the next, showed exceptional artistry. Just an opinion. :)

    No routine by the legendary 1989 Soviet team?
    Interestingly enough, Voinea´s routine (the way of movement) shows some similarities with the "infamous" Zamolodchikova´s 2005 routine for which Yelena was not only harshly criticized, but almost crucified by the gymnastic community.
    I would definitely add some 2000 and 2004 Olympic routines to this collection, e.g. Produnova or Cheng Fei.

    LMAO yes, justismackenzie1. Because being beaten to death and starving herself helped LilyPod learn to be elegant and do fouettes on floor. You need to open your eyes. Yes, coaching is much safer now, but gymnastics as a whole was much safer before (without such difficult skills). Emphasis was on the execution and the elegance. Gymnastics was so much more aesthetically pleasing because of the CoP. Not because of and "drugs". BTW, they had drug tests back then too so I don't know what you mean.

    Absolutely stunning routines. These routines should be mandatory viewing for today's so called gymnasts. The beauty, grace and artistry has been completely sacrificed to tumbling. Today's female gymnasts look like short squat men on the floor. I don't even watch gymnastics anymore - it's completely lacking. They are able to do so much more now, yet watching them compared to the gymnasts in the 70's, 80's and early 90's just seems so much less.

    Great choices... Omelianchik's routine is just fabulous. Maybe I'd add to the list Daniela Silivas. She was great on the floor.

    Camelia Voinea was a bad bish! Love the murmurs of awe from the audience at the end of her stunning 1st pass @ 2:06. Love that the Romanians let her explore that style - she did such an awesome job w/ it, too.
    Podkopayeva was a lovely gymnast, but I would have put a FX w/ more "real", substantive choreo in my Top 5 over that "posey" routine. For ex., Boginskaya's 1988 FX or Tousek's 1999/2000 FX - & a host of others - does much more for me than Lilia's.

    The last 2 were phenomenal. But one person or routine I have yet to see on the great floor routine videos, is Henrietta Onodis 1992 Paris World Championship floor final. Soo amazing. She dies at the end. hehe I have seen it on youtube. But not on the best or favorite lists. So great, She never gets her props.

    Interesting top spot. Beautiful dancer. To me, Omelianchik 85 worlds is perfection, but not my list. Love the Romanian break dance!

    I wish they would bring more of dance element back into routines these days. The music seemed to match the personalities of the gymnasts so well in those days and the choreography complimented the tumbling. Doesn't seem much effort put into choreography now. Seem to just focus on the tumbling. Not as entertaining. My favourite routine of those is definitely Oksana. Voinea also a favourite and Silivas along with others not on list.

    You say that none of the gymnasts are suffering, but right afterwards you claim that they will be prone to even more injuries and psychological pressure. You're deluding yourself. And the gymnasts are lying to themselves too if they think it's OK to train on broken limbs and eat too little.
    No one is forcing you to torture your body, so don't blame me. Instead, try to find a happy middle like Shawn Johnson did.

    No they had springs by that point (although the floor was not as springy as modern ones)
