    I don’t have a solar roof yet so when EcoFlow asked if I wanted to review their portable power station called the Delta Pro along with their portable solar panels, I thought it would be perfect. Let's look at how the Delta Pro can be useful in your home then I’ll show you why I think this is one of the best accessories if you own a Tesla or any electric vehicle.
    A single Delta Pro unit has 3600 watts of AC output with a wide range of ports including four 20 amp outlets which are just like your standard home power outlet, one 30 amp outlet which is similar to an RV hookup, four USB-A ports two of which are fast charging, and two USB-C ports plus many other types.
    A big reason I thought this would be a nice addition not only to my home but to my Tesla Model Y was because the Model Y doesn’t have any power outlets in the vehicle at all. Having this when traveling certain places is super useful for me and my wife because we film weddings, and for our most recent wedding we extended the trip into a vacation so having the Delta Pro would allow us to charge our laptops while we offload and edit the footage plus charge all our camera batteries while we were away from home. This is a convenient and useful way to power all our devices from our car wherever we are and was essentially like making our Tesla Model Y just as good as a Rivian R1T in that regard.
    Even better is the expandable design when connected with other EcoFlow units it can become an integrated home power solution and go all the way up to 25 kWh of capacity which can prove to be vital in more extreme events like blackouts that last for days. I plugged my fridge, coffee bean grinder, and electric kettle all into the Delta Pro, and the Delta Pro’s fans kicked on which is also a great feature because this allows it to have a consistent output of power without overheating, and the Delta Pro worked great while powering all of these appliances.
    When I charged my Delta Pro at home the input speed was about 1600 watts, and to fully charge from 0-100% it would take less than 3 hours on a standard home outlet which is crazy fast. The portable 400w solar panel charged the Delta Pro at a max of 326 watts which is good if you’re in a secluded location for a while & have the time to adjust the solar panel manually throughout the day. When the solar panel is folded it can fit next to the Delta Pro in my Tesla Model Y with one of the backseats folded down so this would be convenient to have when camping or in a remote area and you need to continually charge devices for days on end.
    After some research I found 2 items that are needed to charge my Tesla using the Delta Pro. The 1st item is this RV connector adapter that costs about $40 on Amazon and the 2nd item is this neutral ground plug for about $15 on Amazon. Although the Delta Pro is a pricey at around $3400 and it’s fairly heavy for the average person, it is solidly built with a wide variety of useful ports along with a high capacity and the ability to be connected to other units (especially the solar panels) to make it a truly usable backup battery in emergency situations.

    This Chinese engineered product is not a complete power outage solution because it uses lightweight, low cost high frequency inverter technology that does not incorporate an iron core, copper wound output transformer in its design. This allows it to be susceptible to damage and a short life expectancy due to repeated exposure to high inductance loads such as refrigerators, microwaves, AC units, power tools etc. A much better solution is to purchase a low frequency solar generator with an output transformer. it will last far, far longer and you'll be able to power high inductance loads without sustaining damage to the inverter's unprotected silicon MOSFETs.

    I have both the Delta Pro and the 400 watt portable panel. I purchased the unit and panel to have backup power in the event of an outage. I plan on expanding the system with two additional batteries and installing the home panel. This would give me roughly 10.8 kWh of power and could easily handle most of my needs during peak electrical demand times saving on the cost per kWh. I also want to purchase the solar tracker for the portable solar panel. It will maximize the power the panel can generate as it will literally track the angle of the sun. Yes, I have charged my MY on occasion but honestly will only give you 12-15 miles if you drain the DP from 100% to 0% SOC. And it’s not recommended to consistently charge above 85% or drain it below 10%. Great video and EcoFlow is a great company and product.

    Am I correct that a 400 W solar panel will make about 3 kW of energy over an entire day. That would drive my Tesla 12 miles. I haven't even included the losses in transferring from sunlight to battery to EV. If you had really cloudy day your fully charged EcoFlow could charge your car to go 14 miles and then be fully discharged. Now if you put your panels all over the vehicle and had them charge the EV through the Ecoflow while driving, you could drive for 14 miles in about 10 minutes then wait a full day to recharge and then drive ten more minutes. Please refute my math if I am wrong.

  • @Madsci-zy8wm
    @Madsci-zy8wm 5 месяцев назад

    Without an output transformer to provide galvanic isolation between that portable, high frequency, transformerless inverter's DC rail and its AC output, during a failure of this inverter's control circuitry, you are at high risk of passing high amperage DC current through to your EV's onboard charger. This can not only damage it, but will also void your EV's warranty. You may be able to charge your EV now, but one day, you're inverter will fail as they all do, and you will probably smoke your EV's charger. A much better way to charge your EV off grid, is to use a low frequency, transformer based inverter.

    I would never plug my EV into the low cost, Chinese made, high frequency, transformerless inverter that's inside of that Ecoflow. You might be able to get away with it a few times, but as soon as one of the MOSFETs in the H-Bridge in that high frequency inverter shorts to ground, you'll be sending high current, high voltage DC current straight into your EVs onboard charger that will turn it into a brick. The high frequency, transformerless inverters that are found in all solar generators on the market today are not designed to power high inductance loads. A far better and safer option is to charge your EV with a low frequency, transformer based inverter charger and an LFP battery bank. It will last far, far longer and won't burn up your EVs expensive charger.

If i had more privacy I'd charge the battery by solar during the day, then charge my model 3 long range the 3-5% I might lose in a week during the night to keep it topped off, but I worry about theft during the day.. public parking lot. Using the neutral bonding plug and plugging the Delta Pro into a 120v outlet to charge it at the same time can fry your charging circuit. Don’t take the chance with neutral bonding this way. Hi all,
    So....I have a hack that I literally just thought of for people who can't afford another Delta Pro or extra battery BUT need additional power and own another ecoflow battery. I have called ecoflow and given them the idea as well and they confirmed that it will in fact work!! I then asked them why they don't tell everyone after I've told them and they said they would "escalate the idea" to their top tier and perhaps add it to their FAQs. So here's the idea: We've been told that you must have like systems in order to use them together. This is NOT actually true. If your Delta Pro is low on power (or any other ecoflow system you have) you can simply plug its charging cable (in the rear) into the front of the secondary system. In other words you're using the second system as a wall outlet of sorts. This works especially well in the evening when the sun is down and there is no more backup energy. What do you do when the sun is up?...even better...plus the second system from the rear into the front of the Delta Pro. This allows the sun to charge them BOTH regardless of the differences of their capacities or sizes!!! The only word of caution they gave me after saying what a great idea this was, was to say don't forget to lower the charging speed on the Delta Pro once it's plugged into the front of the second system. Guys this means you can use anything from a River and up to charge your Delta Pro OR any other ecoflow system. If this works for you please like my comment and say "Thanks T!!" just so I'll know at least I was able to communicate something helpful to the solar community-especially since these systems are sooooo expensive!!

    Does anyone know of a model that can output either 110V/60Hz or 220V/50Hz? I am not 100% sure but I think the EcoFlow Delta Pro does only 110/60Hz if bought in the US or only 220V/50Hz if bought in Europe.

  • @Cloxxki

    How many cycles show EcoFlow get over its lifetime to be consider "green", or even "sustainable"?
    If your cute Tesla had gotten the extra battery capacity hidden at the bottom, it would add 5 kg per kWh only. $100 for Tesla per 4-5 miles of range, let alone in Turtle Mode. The sub zero range could come at an automatic $50 run-low-fee and add 10 miles for $200 cost and 10 kg for the whole car.

    • @Cloxxki
      @Cloxxki 2 года назад

      Such a unit, carried along on rides like a tiny little jerrycan of fuel, would ideally have a place in the car where it tugs away invisibly. Say, under the rear seats, in the rear boot well, or the back of the frunk. And then just unplug with a simply tug for mobile use.

  • @personabovefarts1244

    I kinda agree with him with the most important things. My phone, my laptop and my Tesla. The Delta Pro is a pretty good proposition to power all these things and with around 3600W of capacity. It can really charge the Tesla.

    • @RaRaRoo2

      Most generators and probably the Delta Pro do not bond the neutral to ground. Your house does this in the circuit breaker box. The ground plug bonds does the same for your "generator".
