If you want to cut down on plastic waste and repurpose something from the trash/recycling: 1 Liter and 1.5L water bottles from brands like Kirkland, Essentia, and Smartwater can be cut in half hot-dog ways then you can use those for your plastic moss pole backs :)
Thanks for that idea, I have seen a lot of people doing it. I don't think it would have worked for this idea though, but for a standard pole, oh yes. I know someone who uses that method to provide added stability.
You did a great job putting mixed pot syngonium on a moss pole. Great ideas & look fwd to updates! You put so much time & effort in creating big plants on a moss pole, so it’s time to show off your marble queen etc. Thanks for sharing Nora!
“This is the best that I can do because I don’t want to do this anymore” is basically how I feel when I start any project that takes longer than 30 mins!! I just started making my own moss poles and I really enjoyed this method!
I buy the big packets of microfiber cloths at bunnings (they are pretty cheap), cut them up into strips and had been using them as wicks for my plants in leca and for moss polls as well. Saves so much time and effort. I do wet the cloth before using it though, I found it worked well for me. The only thing to be mindful about is that the roots do love to attach themselves to the cloth, something to be mindful of when repotting.
This turned out so beautifully! Boy, that Wicking idea is a good one! And thank you so much for teaching me that I can make my own poles. It has been so nice to feel that confidence.
so glad that at 30min you sai you know they won´t all fit, I was worried :D But I also thought the pole would be bigger, either like a flat really wide mosspole or a round one with syngoniums all around the pole. so when you picked a 20cm pot I already was surprised about what´s next. I actually plan on joining my mottled mojito and my batik? into one pot to safe on space and maintenance.
😂 Thank you for going ahead of us Nora and suffering for us all. We can learn from you and detour from the little issues that you came across. With all the little setbacks, it is still sooo worth doing. I hope you can come back to yr mixed syngonium pole in early Summer to see how it's travelling. It will be spectacular!! 🎉

@TheLecaQueen Thanks for sharing that Nora. It looks like they're all settling in beautifully... and I can't wait to see how it continues to flourish in the months to come too! I can't believe how many you managed to get onto that pole, and I wondered if they might struggle with overcrowding... but they look happy as! And those pops of pink - GAHHH! It's just so LUSH! Love love love 🙌😍🫶
This was by far one of the most interesting. That design of pole makes sooo much sense. I just know this will be one of my most favorite arrangements I have seen. It is going to be a show stopper. Never thought to put all of these together. I am trying a square mosspole so I can plant on all sides. Yours seems so much more sturdy. Btw, I thought you were so great today!
You are too kind, thank you so much. A square sounds like a good idea. Have you seen these that I made a couple of years ago? ruclips.net/video/fegezr2HCqc/видео.html
Love you, girl, you are awesome . Great info about the syngoniums. But my problem is that it seems most of them have an abundance of leaves, but they don't unfurl it has been months that I have been waiting for them to open but I am afraid that i am failing them. Help what should I do I love them
By the way, have you ever heard of a red arrow Syngonium? A plant shop mailed one to me by mistake. That thing was about 160 full price. Not something I would purchase but I was given such a good offer that I decided to keep it. My original order was sent somewhere else, and the people were so happy, they decided to keep it and pay the additional fee. I also paid a small fee instead of going through the hassle of mailing it back, so I guess I made out good.
@@TheLecaQueen It is pretty but not something I would have ordered. Since the vendor sent my plant order to someone else and the customer's order to me, I counted it as a blessing. The other people were so happy with my order, the decided to keep it instead of returning it and paid a small fee for their original order. The vendor gave me the same deal and I took it. She offered me a more expensive plant than the original order. Everyone is happy.
I use small river rocks but big enough that they cannot come through the mesh. It works very well as it also stabilize the pole in the pot. It is so easy the put the pole in as nothing rolls off like the clay balls. Once the pole is in there, fill the pot with the balls. I think you will find it less annoying to do it this way.
I think the water wick is going to work. I’ve tried it in thicker poles and it works well, but on a thiner one I did after, it stayed too wet and I had to undo it because it was developing mold even when I had it next to an open window… I decided to undo it before it could start affecting the plant.

Hi everyone. Im new here, and I love it, and I'm enjoying your videos. I always read comments because that's the best way to learn, and then I'm thinking and thinking and thinking 😂 and overthinking 🤔 because I'm Aquarius ♒️. What do you think about making self watering moss poles. Have you ever tried. I think that would work with leca
Thanks for subbing! Leca poles comes up again and again and again, many times over, too many times for me to count. So the good news is you are in good company. The answer is no, it would not work, not unless you use a pump to move the water up and have it fall on the leca and back down.
i was looking at some online indoor plant stores and admiring the syngoniums, as i dont have any and dont know about them. the stores dont bother to say it's a climbing plant that will require a moss pole. i guess quick sales outweigh providing important information. you dont use velcro ties to attach the plants to moss pole? nice one
You have to overlap the plastic sheets one on top of the other for at least 10cm for them to be very secured and then you don’t need to use a metal rod to secure an extended pole. Make sure to put the upper sheet inside the bottom one, otherwise the water could drip out when watering from the top. Also the more depth the pole has the more humidity will retain and less watering will require, so cut the metal at least a 3rd less wide than the plastic or acrylic sheet. If you are using acrylic 1mm thickness is too thick for smaller poles. Get 0,75mm thickness acrylic, otherwise it’s too hard to bend and unless it’s a huge and wide pole you don’t need such much thickness. 0,5mm thick acrylic sheets are too weak in my experience.
I found some premade poles and ordered a set to try them. I don't care for moss pole, but some plants need them. I am putting my monsteras on poles. You make your poles; I purchase the plastic ones and fill it. I am not diligent like you. Also found coco poles does nothing put stabilize the plant. They are useless otherwise and wish move vids will come out on why you should not purchase them.
In my experience, it doesn’t even matter if a pole is premade or DIY and handmade by myself… the fact of the matter that I have noticed is moss poles are sort of counterproductive. They can work, and clearly do work, but only when the plant ALLOWS it. 😂 What do I mean? If you think about the jungle, or a forest, vines grow up trees, yes? What are trees made of? Wood. Bark. Not sphagnum moss. And even the branches on the trees that are covered in moss aren’t COMPLETELY and ONLY composed of moss. There’s the bark underneath. Moss poles seem very unsupportive to me, and I’ve only experienced ONE plant do well on one, that was a _Monstera adansonii_ on a pole I made. But it was a PVC pipe that I glued sheet sphagnum around. The roots were attracted to the actual pole, the PVC, not the moss. Just the same, in the jungle, vines attach to the textured bark of tree trunks and climb towards the light. Pure moss or coco coir isn’t enough to stabilize a vine, whether it’s a mature plant or a baby. For comparison, I have a standard heartleaf philodendron that I made a moss pole for in 2019… well, it never attached. Haha. Now I have a hanging arrangement with a six foot pole sticking out of it. The roots simply wouldn’t attach to the moss. They need something hard and sturdy. We see people with pothos, Epipremnum, etc. growing indoors on the walls, on buildings, on wood planks, etc. and they seem to do so well. Because it’s simulating a TREE. Moss does no such thing. At least in my experiences. And keeping the poles moist just keeps the roots from attaching even longer. The tips of the roots are sticky, if you feel them. Sticky can’t adhere to wet. Again, this is simply my experience…I’ve switched from moss poles to planks and PVC. Without moss! And guess what…the plants stick to the PVC like crazy, they love it! People ask about nutrition, but again, what about the pothos climbing around my bedroom walls?
I hear you, more and more I am leaning towards your way of thinking. I know it is weird to say that after I have just made a moss pole video, but that until I find a solution that fits it has to be them. Planks are not really an option for me, I am on the hunt...because as I keep saying ..I really do not like Moss poles now
@@TheLecaQueen I don't know if planks are ok as I don't know how to fertilize properly. I am going to find an old tree branch of some kind since they have nooks and crannies and try using that as a pole.
@@erikm8372 What about mixing media? I mixed moss with tree fern fiber last week and my Cebu Blue roots are acting like they are competing in a race. I made that one, myself with only moss and a plastic backing since I had it hanging around? Someone on YT make hers with laminate and tape by folding the laminate around the moss and plant and then tape it down and it works. Very fast and easier to water.
You don’t need moss poles for semi-epiphytes! I have gigantic mature pothos and monsteras on simple wooden planks. In a side-by-side comparison, planks actually outperform moss poles in immediate explosive growth likely because they have a more solid structure that the plant can depend on, signaling to the plant that they have a reliable base for climbing. In their natural habitat, semi-epiphytes climb on trees and do not steal nutrients from their host in any way - they simply attach and climb in hopes of getting better access to rainfall and sun. That’s why you’ll never see as large of growth when a monstera is rooting and growing along the ground as when it’s climbing up a tree! You can skip all the maintenance and expense and just use a simple wooden slat to achieve the largest and most consistent growth for these plants 🌱
This is true. No you do not. Some people don't like the look of planks and how you can't extend or chop a plank so unfortunately moss poles have a role to play for those who choose them. They could also use a trellis. It is all about personal choice. 😊
It has been my experience that philodendron need the pole to be moist to attach. Pothos, in my experience, do not. They seem to be easier to attach to whatever support they have.
