I'm in Winnipeg, Canada and I've been searching for a Verricosum for a couple years and finally found 2 at my local nursery! They had a few mealies, but I bought them anyway, treated and rehabilitated it, put it on a pole and they're each growing their first leaf in my care. 💚

“Some people are looking for mangroves while everybody else is just looking for pink variegated half dead Alocasias” 🤣
That was a perfect sentence 😂
I feel more and more that having all these pictures of unattainable plants available on the internet (and having impossible wishlists) is designed to make people unhappy with what they have.
Not chasing unicorns (anymore) makes me a much happier person 😊
I really appreciate that some people wanted easier to get plants, there are so many plants to enjoy!

      @Wubblyt Месяц назад

@ Im noticing that as well.
There is a lot of pull out there from many different directions to buy things, have more things, “complete the wishlist”.
It would be nice if we all could go back to enjoying growing plants well and trading/gifting eachother cuttings every now and then… in stead of hoarding the latest trendy plants to check off impossible wishlists 😅
It is why I enjoyed seeing some of those more attainable plants on peoples lists, growing those well will make them a lot happier I believe over buying and trying to grow some really expensive gnarly looking and finicky “new type variegated” plant 🌱
(Though it is interesting to see what kind of things people are interested in in general)

Would love a part 3! And YES…if I pull up any plant on You-Tube- EXCEPT HOYA’S You are ALL OVER. 😊😊😊 You are super humble to be so surprised. There’s not many other more popular plant You-Tubers. Come on, You are not sore on the eyes 😉 ok, Handsome! You are funny, honest, smart etc, etc. You have a way to make learning about plants super fun! And you know so much. I really appreciate all of the time you have spent learning about plants and are willing to share it with us. I also want the Red Crystallinum!! So MUCH. I also really like that Zara X Michelle. Those 2 are at the top of my Wish list. Along with a few Hoyas. I recently got a Mayoi and I was so excited. It is still young and only has a little shape. Can’t wait until it looks like the ones you showed! And of course the Pink Bambino or Amazonia. I bought a tiny Pink Bambino for a FREAKING $100. That is the most I have spent. It was stupid! It was a recent import and absolute TINY. I was not experienced taking care of them that small and just imported. I’m sure it was TC too. Anyway- it died. It had mostly white or pink leaves. Not really variegated. I actually loved the look. But worried about it being able to survive with no green. Anyway, if I could get one for $50 and it was actually a small plant-then I’m all in. I learned a good lesson. Would I be upset with the amount of money I spent on this plant if it died soon? If the answer is yes, I CAN’T get it!! Haha. 😆 Thanks again for another super fun video.

For Alocasia try a very chunky mix, and I mean CHUNKS, no Substrate components smaller than 10mm and then using bigger or deeper pots and keeping the substrate moist.

I was binging plant unboxings by various content creators yesterday and one creator (no shade, I love him, he's great!) was literally in tears when he got a philo pink princess and it cost over $1000. And now you can pick them up for £3 a couple of years later! Obviously people can spend their money on whatever they want, I hope they get a lot of joy from their plants over the years, but personally I would rather wait and watch the price come down to more reasonable amounts.
Also, I love the Monstera Acacoyaguensis, but thats because I have a soft spot for monsteras lol. I've heard anthurium hybrids are gonna be a big thing in 2025...

One plant I won’t buy either is the Calathea no matter how tempting the white fusion is to me. I’ve heard to many horror stories on how hard it is to keep alive and they tend to be pest magnets.

I also like the Calethea White Fusion but decided to go with an easier Calathea for the start - which so far (but only 2 - 3 months in) is doing really good. If it continues like this I might get a White Fusion next year.

Jan, the red in the red crystal is recessive so make sure whatever you buy shows a red emergent.

10:03 Even Monstera adansonii ssp. laniata is very diverse and there are even laniatas without any fenestration. The one that you have, the most widely available form in Australia (I bought one in about 1997 with a label saying "Monstera obliqua expilata" and it's still growing at my parents' place) is often referred to as Monstera adansonii ssp. laniata "Double Windows" because it reliably develops small fenestrations near the midrib and big ones further out. I've seen it called a rare plant on some US websites and I've also seen people going crazy wherever your adansonii is reposted and people saying it's "obviously an 'Esqueleto'" (even though it's obviously not - 'Esqueleto' in the conditions you're giving your adansonii would be enormous and has a completely different look) and I think it's just because the double rows of fenestrations on an adansonii is quite unknown elsewhere.

In the Bay area, California, I see a lot of variegated bananas in people's lawns. They are stunning. But remember they die once they fruit lol

Damn, I don't think I could spend more than $50 on a plant. Maybe for a gorgeous mature plant that someone loved for a decade but they died or they're moving and can't bring it? I might be willing to pay more than $50 knowing that I'm paying for the years someone dedicated to it. But an anonymous starter plant cultured in a lab or a cutting that someone potted up last week - nah.
The highest I've paid to date is $30, and most are in the $15 range. I ordered two baby Thais from Florida for almost $40 and it felt extravagant. I paid $20 privately for a stunning marble queen pothos from a local nursery owner; it completely fills out its 8" pot and trails 3' long above my hammock chair in my living room, and it feels more valuable than the MTCs. I immediately took cuttings (seriously, it was too long, my cat would have been able to eat its toxic leaves) and they're rooting in my aquarium for my mom's Christmas gift. And my $5 golden pothos that I got on clearance at Walmart? Love 'em. They look dramatic (okay they look wimpy next to the marble queen but come on, she's incredible) and they've grown like crazy, even during all my horrendous beginner mistakes over this past summer.

Ahh about the cactus. Lophophora williamsii (aka peyotl)... let's just say some people may have ulterior motives when buying it. :,D It contains a lot of mescaline, you can get very very high on it. It's also used in some religious ceremonies.

1:00:11 Jan! Put your alocasias in pon - there's a girl named Melissa in Savannah, GA (USA) who grows in semi-hydro (pon mostly) and has SAVED me with the alocasias! My Tandarusa is PHENOMENAL and popped out a corm that is producing segmental albo varigation. 🤯🤩 I'd love Love LOVE to see your alocasia journey!
