7:00 Philo Snowdrift. My local grocery store, Kroger, got a shipment of them in. They were $30 (USD) & looked miserable when they arrived. I was chatting with the floral person & she said she was going to discount them. Those plants arrived at the store with root rot. I got one for $6. It's very pretty, but VERY tiny. It has put out 2 new leaves in the past 2 months.
tetrasperma. Species name is always lowercase. Genus is capitalized. Species lowercase also to help differentiate from hybrids and common names. It drives me crazy when people capitalize the species name.
I agree with the Paraiso Verde is heat because I have two and the one that’s close to the heater is all variegated and the other nothing. Cut from same plant, same lighting conditions. Ones just one foot closer to heat source and stays warmer.
Absolutely loving my Paraiso Verde! I moved it closer to a south-facing window last year, where it gets a mix of bright indirect light and a bit of direct sun. During winter, the leaves stay fully green, but come summer, the variegation really shines. Surprisingly resilient in direct summer sun, too!
Paraiso definitely need heat versus light. I live in central Florida and it’s in a kind of dark yet very warm spot and is sizing up with beautiful variegation.
I've been growing M. laniata mint for afew months now and it has risen to my top favorite mint plant so fkn fast! Not sure if it's light or temp related, or both, bc mine receives high levels of both. But the leaves come out stark white! And they hold the white color for 2-3 months before starting to fade to a more minty colour!
The clarity that i’ve gotten from this vid i can’t thank you enough for! Awesome vid to get in the know before shopping esp as these plants are a foot & leg where i live! 26:48
Hi Kaylee, your video totally could be coming directly out of my mind. I totally agree to your opinion of 'Mint' and 'Ghost' variegation. MD 'Full Mint' and 'White Monster' seem to be the same variety, but I'm not totally sure yet. I have a TC plant of both varieties, but the variegation on the leaves looks different somehow. And I'm pretty sure the 'Full Mint' were cheaply produced in such horrendous masses that there is a lot of not wanted spontaneous mutation in them. My exemplar does not grow good roots, they become longer and longer but do not branch out a single time. They simply stay air roots. And the plants grow totally shltty. MD 'White Monster' looks better - in growth and variegation. I have a MD 'Jungle Mint', too, as it's been called (or 'NoID' or simply 'Mint'). And it is totally different and the variegation stays and only darkens like the variegation of MD 'Albo'. The ghosty Rhaphidophora tetrasperma veriegata here in Germany is offered as Rhaphidophora "White Monster". Because of the many, MANY fake names that pop up everywhere I'm pretty sure this is one, too. I don't have tis plant myself yet, but when the prices drop, I will try it. Rhaphidophora tetrasperma is a little drama queen - in my opinion - when it comes to variegation. Only the 'Mint' variegated form makes beautiful and perfect leaves, 'Albo' and 'Aurea' form do not grow that nice. And I really would like this ghosting variegation and hope, the plants grows nice, too.
MD mint (if you re talking about the new ones that looks a lot like a WMonster, and that are way cheaper than the regular mint) and white monster aren t the same plant. And I ve seen both plants grown up, it s different. But it is very similar when it is still juvenile. Also a tissue culture will never be the exact same as the real plant so that can influence your research :) Monstera full mint isn t really produced in mass, it s a rare plant that still costs a lot, but I do agree that it doesn t grow really well, you need to put a lot of efforts on it to look good And you are totally right with the raphidophora, it is 100% a white monster and not a mint one. Tbh it seems to go green a lot instead of ghost from what I ve seen
@@zepoissondu4510 Yes, I agree with you mostly. I mean the 'White Monster' in comparison to 'Full Mint', which is another variety as 'Mint'. I do have a "regular" 'Mint', too - the "expensive" one, also called 'Jungle Mint' or "NoID" sometimes. A leaf cutting from a grown up plant, no TC. And there are huge differences in the look. First of all - "real" 'Mint is small form, the other ones are large form. TC is not neccessarily (optical) different to the original, it depends how caring(or aggressively) the TC is made. But mass production (like in this case) always makes the produced plants more and more different due to more undesired mutations, which makes them more recognisable to the eye - but the producing nurseries give a f***, because many plant are more money to earn. Plants grown from "normal" plant cuttings do mutate as well, but not in so large steps at once. A plant in itself is mutating the whole time whilst it's growing, but you do not recognise it. It is complex. MD 'Mint' has a totally different look in the variegation than 'Full Mint' or 'White Monster'. But in my experience it grows totally normal without issues. Only the TC plants ('Full Mint'!) have too much trouble in developing a strong rooting system. So with my really terrible 'Full Mint'. The variegation of all three varieties is different, but 'Mint' looks most different and most beautiful, grows healthy and gets many different leaves - from crappy to stunning looking, all in one plant. But this plant really gets more beautiful with every leaf. With the Rhaphidophora I have to make clear - it is not a 'White Monster'! But I do not mean the kind of variegation (which truly fits pretty well to 'White Monster'). Here you have to know that 'White Monster", "Mint', 'Albo', 'Aurea' are not color/variegation type names - they are just selling names. I don't know the right wort in English, but is a just a name (for trademark rights, for example), not a part of the scientific name. So if one plant is called a 'Mint', it has not necessarily to have a mint variegation. That is what this video is about - names and there difference to the real appearance. With the Rhaphi I only wanted to bring out that there are many fake names made up for selling to higher prices.
100% heat for paraiso verde! moved mine to the window a year ago, it gets some direct sun every day, but in winter only pushes full green, and summer pushes wonderful variegation. Handles direct summer sun surprisingly well, too.

That tetraspema you featured is called white monster in thailand. It used to cost around 5k baht before summer, but today is 1k for 3-5 leaves or 2k for 8+ leaves. It also comes out as white but then slowly fades to green starting with main veins. It thrives in hugh humidity.
Yes ! i also commented that... tetrasperma mint does not have any white on the leaves, it s really a mix of all shades of green from the lightest to dark green. The white monster are exactly like the picture of the video, where it really has white and green leaves
I've put my paraiso verde under a growlight. Growlight is strong and hot, just standing under it for a few seconds make me sweat 😰 a lot. My paraiso verde shows a good variegation but grows slow, then I put it outside in the scorching sun, reverted immediately and grows fast and a little burned.
My attentionspan ended somewhere near the end but if it wasn't mentioned in the video the plant: Murdannia 'Brigt star', not at all rare, but very minty imo.
So on the note of Burle Marx mint and Pariso Verde. I’ve seen some people online warn against buying Burle Marx mint that are actually Burle Marx x Paraiso hybrids o.O According to those people, I have one such hybrid. But if it is a hybrid, it doesn’t have that heat requirement, because it’s been growing mint next to my Paraiso that’s been all green for ages 🤷 Weird. It’s still a plantlet. It’ll be interesting to see if it starts looking less Burle Marx-like as it grows
Earlier this year, Pew classified Thaumatophyllum as synonymous with Philodendron. So either name is acceptable. As Philodendrons, they populate a subgenus called Meconostigma.
I am just not a fan of “mint” plants. Most of them just look like severe spider mite damage. I do really love my P Ghost so I guess I’ll put up with the mint in the middle phase, for a really pretty plant otherwise.
I have a rhaphidophora that had a light green and one white leaf when I bought it, and one white leaf about to unfurl. Unfortunately the new leaf rotted, and after that it only gave green leafs. Was sooooo sad 😫 Still hoping it some day will give white/ghost leafs again.
Ha! I saw this title pop up in my feed and my first thought was, didn't she make a video about Mint not being a thing?? LOL. Been with you awhile! Still here ❤
So first to answer your intorregation, white monster and full mint are not the same. White monster is a cultivar discovered by kunzo, so if the cutting you get isn t originary from kunzo (it can be multiple generations of cuttings ofc), then it s not a white monster. They look more like the new "mint" (not the mint we know) monstera tc being sold in plant stores for cheap lately. Full mint is kinda like a monstera mint that went full white/mint. And white monster is a large form, full mint is (usually) more a small form. Also for the raphidophora tetrasperma, it looks defienitely like a white monster also (yes these exists), i have a raphidphora tetrasperma mint here in my collection and there is no white at all, it s really a mix of all shades of green from the lightest to dark green that makes a beautiful patern on the leaves (actually if you want a picture i could !) The white monster tetrasperma are way more expensive tho, i saw a rare plant store sell the white monster tetrasperma and it definitely looks more like the one you show in the video !
Monstera mint 4 inch small plant 5 leaves no fenestrations runs around $140- 150 white ghost 5 inch 3 leaves again no fenestrations $300. Both versions I found leaves are smaller than my hand or yours

Thank you for telling it like it is and being honest about plants so that we aren't scammed by other plant shops!
Yessss. Thank you for that bit about the common name of Rhaphidiphora Tetrasperma. Makes me CRAZY when people use the common name.
tetrasperma. Species name is always lowercase. Genus is capitalized. Species lowercase also to help differentiate from hybrids and common names. It drives me crazy when people capitalize the species name.

I need to add a philodendron whipple way to my collection, it' has a nice vibe to it ❤

Hah, I'm online shopping for a ghost. Your timing is always impeccable
I really like the Whipple Way.

Love this video. I always appreciate your observations and thoughts to help differentiate plants.

I have the Philodendron Golden Dragon Mint leaves come out almost white and fade to green, but its all one color the same as a Florida Ghost
Need a mint/ghost Hoya video! 🌱

That reaction at 1:43 was hilarious 😆
Nice info
Thank you
The Burle Marx mint is my favorite! 🤩 too bad it’s unstable.
Ooo I would love a monstera mint too if my wishlist xx
I’ll try to send more pics of the mint golden dragon but they are my favorite. I can send you a vid of the one at the store I work at. It’s gorgeous
I just got a snowdrift for $20 in Pacific Northwest. I love it.
I'm in Port Orchard Wa. Where did you get it?
@richardlawton1023 in Warrenton or at Home Depot, marked as variegated Jungle Fever.
@EMuro-wu7uy I'll check Bremerton tomorrow
I have never seen a Spathiphlum Ghost 😲 It’s quite beautiful 😀🇨🇦
My attentionspan ended somewhere near the end but if it wasn't mentioned in the video the plant: Murdannia 'Brigt star', not at all rare, but very minty imo.
Came for the plants, stayed for the cats crunching asmr 👌
The best are the genus Mentha and the Dendrophylax lindenii.

I think the zz chameleon could easily fall in the ghost category
Apparently there are white mint and green mint monstera depending on if the minty look is contained to one or two layers of variegation.
Earlier this year, Pew classified Thaumatophyllum as synonymous with Philodendron. So either name is acceptable. As Philodendrons, they populate a subgenus called Meconostigma.
Awesome review, thank you!!!
Allways love to see a video from you 😍
Oh you wont believe how much money i make on my monstera mint? Its much (for me 😂) around 1.500 usd 😂. He is my money maker
I am just not a fan of “mint” plants. Most of them just look like severe spider mite damage. I do really love my P Ghost so I guess I’ll put up with the mint in the middle phase, for a really pretty plant otherwise.
Wasn’t the FunBun declassified as a philodendron a few years back?
Awe i was hoping to a cebu ghost in here 😢
@20:36 Hilarious! so sorry! Thanks for the video though 🙂
mint variegation best variegation💯
I have a rhaphidophora that had a light green and one white leaf when I bought it, and one white leaf about to unfurl. Unfortunately the new leaf rotted, and after that it only gave green leafs. Was sooooo sad 😫 Still hoping it some day will give white/ghost leafs again.

I think i got a bad batch of your powergrow. Used at the recommended ratio and i lost 8 alocasia to stem rot 😭
I think white monster and full mint are 2 different plants
Hoya?
💚💚💚💚💚
Did I miss something or why aren't you filming in the unit anymore? 😮😢

It’s not monstera minima nkey nkey nkuuuuuy😂❤
You can get a rhapidophora white monster these days, I know you will like it 😊 check your dms!

Monstera mint 4 inch small plant 5 leaves no fenestrations runs around $140- 150 white ghost 5 inch 3 leaves again no fenestrations $300.
Both versions I found leaves are smaller than my hand or yours
