    Hey boys from Oz, no thylacines in the yard, but a suggestion for editing. Could you please add photos of each animal, place and people you talk about in the podcast. It would be great to get some visual references as we watch and listen! Loving the podcast 👌 cheers boys!

    Im from Papua New Guinea and recently turned 21 , when I was a kid , my mum would tell me stories about her childhood she spent in her village and how the habitats were untouched and different. She told me there used to be a lot of strange/unique wild dogs with tiger stripes in the jungle and and this was the 80s and an hour drive from Port Moresby. My grandparents would tell me the same, they said they said these unique dogs disapeared few years after more development came in . It's all coming back to me , those unique dogs with tiger stripes were actually surviving thylacines ! I showed a photo to my mum recently just to confirm with her and she said that was the dog in her childhood,she doesn't actually know what it was and I explained and she looked shocked that it was never a dog

    Look up why the natives of sentinel island are so hostile to outside influence. East India Company made contact with them in the 1700’s and did what they were best at. Disease was unleashed on the people and others were kidnapped or killed in battle. Bad things just happened to follow white visitors. I imagine after 250 years their tall tales became even taller, any outsiders are probably viewed as a sign of the apocalypse.

    I have 100% seen a thylacine. I am a student of biological sciences at LaTrobe University and have been obsessed with the natural world since i could pick up a book. When i was about 8 or 9 years old my grandfather took my sister and i into the countryside (this happened in far south-eastern Victoria, right near the coast and in very densely forested area) to visit our great aunty, his sister.
    On the trip back, so we’re coming home, our sparkplugs blew and we had to stop. We got out, it was early evening or late afternoon, from memory it was about 6 or 7 PM because i remember there was still a lot of sunlight. We went to a farmer’s house and told him and his wife why we’d stopped outside his property, and they were very friendly, they let my sister and i have some lemonade and whatever.
    Anyway, that’s all boring shit, let’s get to the thylacine. I was sitting under a tree with my sister right on the front of their property, so facing the road, and the husband and my grandfather were at the car waiting for the RACV people to show up. I looked to my left, across a field bordering the forest, and i saw this weird looking dog kind of slinking over a paddock. It was *NOT* a fox, i can 100% tell you it was not a fox, i grew up in the country and i know what foxes look like, my dad and i used to go fox hunting all the time. It had a super straight, thin tail and a completely straight back, with little round ears and stocky legs. It had a sort of long snout that looked very stocky, clearly not a dog or a dingo (there are no dingoes down there anyway).
    I stood up and walked over because i thought it was one of those dogs with the huge muzzles, i can’t remember what the breed is called but i used to like them as a kid because they looked different and everyone thought they were ugly. I went over to the fence and saw that the animal had stripes on its hind side running parallel, tapering to the top of the tail and stopping halfway up its body. I’m telling you, it was a thylacine.
    It stopped and looked at me with really weird looking eyes, unlike anything i’ve ever seen, and then it just trotted off (yeah, trotted, it was like it was speed walking or something). It ran off into the forest and i told the guy, the husband guy, that i thought i saw a thylacine.
    He said i probably did as he has seen several over the course of his life and said they used to kill his father’s sheep there.
    I have since asked many other people living down that way, near the Gippsland ranges, and about 1 in every 5 people that i’ve asked claim they’ve seen one or even many in that same area. It’s an area without dingoes, without many foxes at all, and with heaps of prey for it.
    I’m telling you that as someone who knows animals, it was a thylacine. You can relax if you’re worried about them being extinct because the fact i just saw one on this random day in early evening means there’s probably a lot of them. I’m telling you, they’re still around and if they’re alive in Victoria they’re definitely alive in Tasmania and Papua New Guinea. We just need to get one on camera!
    Edit: This happened in about 2009 or 2010 for anyone wondering, so not very long ago at all.

    • @BornIn1500
      @BornIn1500 2 года назад

      LMAO there is zero recent evidence or photos of a Thylacine, yet we should believe that an 8 year old saw one and that there's not just a few, but MANY.... all without any evidence whatsoever. That's simply delusional. Lots of people think they see bigfoot too... so I guess there are many of them as well?

    • @a.m11558
      @a.m11558 2 года назад

      @@BornIn1500 Actually Thylacines do exist on Papua New Guinea, the natives there have them as pets. They call them Striped Dogs. And anyone who lives in rural Victoria or Tasmania will attest to seeing them. Considering this was their habitat only a few decades ago (there were reliable sightings into the 1960s and 1970s) i seriously doubt that the Thylacine is extinct. Bigfoot is not even a real organism, sure Gigantopithecus was around but it only lived in Asia. I understand the difficulty in imagining that they are around, but I am extremely confident they will be rediscovered within the next few years. There is an expedition heading to Papua New Guinea led by a Zimbabwe-born naturalist to look for them and i'm certain they'll find them with the indigenous people there.

    Late to the party, but those catfish have serrated spines on their dorsal and pectoral fins. Channel cats, blues, flatheads don’t sting but they hurt like hell if you get nicked by one. Their are smaller species called madtoms, more specifically the brindled madtom, are only two inches long, here in indiana that has a minor venom on their spines, which if pricked by one of them, your arm goes numb for about 20 minutes.

      There's far more biodiversity in tropical areas than in arctic/subarctic areas. Also animals living in arctic areas tend to be larger and animals living in tropical areas tend to be smaller. Obviously it's a lot harder to spot smaller animals especially in jungles with immensely thick vegetation. And although the population of Northern Canada is very low and the land area enormous, it's still more explored than some of the far off tropical areas of the world. That being said there absolutely could be undiscovered species there, it's just more likely there are far more undiscovered species in exotic tropical locations.

    Hey, I’m a huge fan and I’m an Oklahoman. Just wanted to throw a couple noodling facts out there. Firstly, I once met a guy who used to noodle a lot and one of his hands had probably 10% function. He swam into a beaver hole and got bit in the middle of the wrist. It shattered both bones and severed several nerves and tendons. Also, most people think it’s just sticking your arm in the hole but when it’s a decent sized flathead or blue, the holes are like 5-15 ft deep. So often it takes a chain of 2 or 3 guys holding onto the next guys feet, to get to the back of the hole and get to the catfish. I have holes in my ear drums from tubes so I can’t go under water. But I’ve often been the last guy in the chain, or reached in the arm deep holes for smaller fish. It’s terrifying but entirely worth it for the fresh fried catfish.

I believe Joe Rogan even caught one on security camera and saw it. Their not big like mountain lions or small like house cats. The size is very similar to a snow leopard. They're not bobcats, they're not mountain lions, I'm honestly really not sure what they could be. They're bigger than Jaguarundi and I don't know of any reports of Jaguarundi with melanism. Imagine a fully black African leopard the size of a snow leopard and that's what they look like.

    What's the first thing to do when discovering a previously thought extinct species? sedate it and take it with you? take blood samples? contact the wildlife authorities? What exactly is the best line of action?

    • @smurflover6275

      I personally would have to sedate it and take it with me, imagine finding someone extinct and not being able to show people and everyone saying the photos are fake,people only believe it if they actually see it, what do you think you would do Busta

    Dingos did not outcompete thylacines. Australia is vast. And moreover there is plenty of prey and place to hide. I believe they are still out there. Thousands of sightings cannot be wrong. People are not idiots. They know what they see. Few of them can be mistaken but not everybody,

    Peter might have been thinking of a horned pout. We have them in New Hampshire and it’s a small catfish species that has a spike on its pectoral fins and it’s dorsal fin. I don’t know if other catfish have them or if it’s just the type that we have around here.

    Animal trafficking on DW is how transactions are occurring between unknown people. Making a dent in it would require a substantial amount of time and resources, both human and monetary. Grabbing a few white hatters you might take down a few transactions, but to actually make an impact it would need to be a fairly sizable and coordinated effort… people with skills are willing…
    People who have experience with the scale of operation needed would be best… the problem has grown exponentially since the advent of bitcoin…

      Almost certainly not much in mega fauna. Its not a big island. The sentinelese or however its spelt would have hunted most large animals.

    I imagine that the Dingo could adapt to jungle or plains rather quickly. They share ancestry with the New Guinea Singing Dog and Carolina Dog which both live up in mountain forest, the New Guinea Singing Dog in particular lives rather high up in the mountainous jungle. Canids are extremely adaptable, it'd be very hard to base a theory around what an ancient canid was doing. The first Dingos coming into Australia would've hit that northern rainforest and that would've been very familiar to them based on where they came from. Their modern behavior was probably very prey related and they didn't really have the option in their ancestral ranges to hunt the plains.
