@@user-li3fr8jl3b Don't quote me on on this. But I think this film was sabotaged from the inside. It may have exposed too many evils of the industry. By every law of nature, this film should have been as big as SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER. It had great music, a classical foundation, and important messages. . Why did it fail financially?
I did. Hugged him, said THANK YOU too and got both parts of Faust autographed! I think the entire cast was and will always be happily befuddled about the response they got from Phans. The like it . They just can't believe it happened. Especially the concert! That was freaking AWESOME. The JUICY FRUITS, BEEF and PHOENIX sang at the GARRICK!!! LIVE!!!
I'm sure someone already mentioned it, but I LOVE how Miss Harper recreates her "Funky Chicken" dance move for the crowd, I mean, she HAS to look back at that footage in the film, and blush, if not just laugh her ass off!
Was a huge hit here in Winnipeg for some reason. I was 8/9 when I watched it the first time. My mom had the album. My sister and myself would play it over and over again. Great music!
Would have freaked out being there. So glad to hear so many fans cheering for this bloody jewel of a film I will rewrite my cantata.....But you best play what I write!
Very unfairly underated film! I often watch it when I'm having a 70s night. 70s music meets "The Phantom of the Opera," "The Picture of Dorian Gray," and "Faust." What more, could we ask?
I remember as a little kid my dad showed me this I'm 21 right now I was like 8 at the time and was wondering what the fuck this was all about. But I like it it's such an underrated film created by a genius of a song writer in Paul Williams.
Okay, that neon lighting bolt scene scared the shit out of me as a child, what was my mom doing taking me to see this? God bless her because this movie is one of the best to ever do it, musical horror. Extra props to Depalma and the whole cast, bravo!
I watch this beautifully entertaining movie over and over! Would love to see a 40th anniversary screening next year here in the U.S... or I may have to fly to Winnebeg.
A film that will live forever in my heart, I will love Jessica second only to my Mary Jo. As good as The Phantom of the Opera is I would love to see this take it's place next to it.
I translated this in case others were curious too... says: 'Favorite movie ❤ How many times have you watched ~' I believe the comment is written in Japanese.
No tengo palabras solo que toda la musica la ce baylar hy nome aguito aqui en mexico los he seguido masss lade jeesica harpers hoy tengo casi 60 hy se cantarla hy baylarla heee 😂😂
Jessica. Just going to say.... It was great to be a 16 year old musician outside the KFC at Greenwood and Danforth a short block away from the Roxy in Toronto's East End. 1979 / 1980 was a VERY GOOD TIME to be a young man.
It's sad that there are no interviews on the DVD.
This film really deserved more recognition than it got.
I have this on DVD.I remember this came out on cable around 1976 and I saw it 100 times back then.
Arrow Video Bluray in UK have done a bluray I think? Also a DVD ... usually they have a fair few extras

R.I.P. William Finley. How nice to see the original cast again.
I wish I could have met William Finley. Winslow is my hero!
Me too.

still amazed that this movie was a hit just in Winnipeg. Such an awesome movie.
Reportedly, it was also big in Italy, It's how Harper got the part in Suspiria.
And france
@erinwitcraft9141 wow didn't know that
First saw this when I was in the 4th grade... didn't understand it, but I knew it was something special. 49 years later, I'm still a fan!
Wiliam Finely RIP underrated genius.
I'm sure someone already mentioned it, but I LOVE how Miss Harper recreates her "Funky Chicken" dance move for the crowd, I mean, she HAS to look back at that footage in the film, and blush, if not just laugh her ass off!
I LOVE the movie. I saw it 27 times in a theater in West Hollywood. Saw Paul in concert around the same time.
I saw Paul twice in concert in the 70s. The movie MANY times as well, although just once in an actual theater.

Where's my man Paul Williams? Score, villain, and hero's singing voice? There wouldn't have been a movie without him.
Probably he was on concert season
jessica harper has never aged, she still looks very young.
Would have freaked out being there. So glad to hear so many fans cheering for this bloody jewel of a film

Wow that gave me goosebumps.

*WHY THE FUCK DIDN'T I KNOW THIS HAPPENED?!*
13 yrs ago? I'm genuinely a little heartbroken that I never knew.
It took me a minute or two to understand the chicken dance....
so great that these exist.
残念な事にこの映画日本では全く認知されてないんだ

This movie should have been a cult/midnight hit of the magnitude of The Rocky Horror Picture Show!
