The Possession of Michael King is one that goes unnoticed. Deadstream is also really good, genuinely funny. And thank you for not including Lake Mungo. I seriously have no idea why people find that movie so scary. It's not, in my humble opinion. 😎Nice list!

Hey Sarah. Just you know, there was a special Blair Witch Project release in the EU, which features A LOT of deleted scenes as a bonus. A fan has been working hard and has incorporated these cut scenes into the original movie. What we got is a 3 hour The Blair Witch Project film which is just amazing. I definitely think the original cut is still the best (sometimes less is more), but damn if it isn't fun. It's soo great seeing what was left on the cutting room floor and how much it adds to the characters. Definitely suggest a watch for a Blair Witch fan like yourself. :)

After hearing you recommend Gonjiam haunted asylum about a thousand times, I finally decided to see what all the fuss was about literally just last night… and it did not disappoint😭. Tbh I’m one of those people who can’t really get into found footage horror. I’m not a horror snob or judgemental of people’s preferences by any means, but if the script and line delivery aren’t convincing to me, it’s hard for me to feel “scared”, even if the visuals are scary… and because the genre is so budget friendly, you’re more likely to experience not-so-great acting/writing compared to other sub-genres (not saying low budget films can’t be great). That being said, Gonjiam definitely got me. Once the second half popped off, I was genuinely creeped tf out and had to force myself not to be like🫣LOL. The film being foreign might’ve helped me out a little because frankly, if I’m not a native speaker of a films language, “bad” acting is far more likely to go right over my head😭. Either way, I’m definitely going to explore more foreign found footage now👍.

Haha I always love your rankings:
    Here’s mine
    5. The Houses October Built 1& 2
    4. Gonjiam Haunted Asylum
    3. Grave encounters 1
    2. Blair Witch
    1. Hell House LLC
Fun fact I’ve mentioned here before but Blair Witch and Butterfly Kisses were filmed in and around my hometown of Ellicott City, Maryland and the Bay is supposed to take place in Maryland as well even though it was filmed in North and South Carolina and also Grave Encounters is supposed to be filmed at an asylum called Collingwood Psychiatric Hospital but it was actually filmed in British Columbia. 😉
Love your channel and videos as as always and Happy Holidays to you and your family 🥰🎄🎉

Great video Sarah! Unfriended is a great movie so I'm glad you have it on this list.
I've seen almost all these movies except: Phoenix Forgotten, Incantation, Quarantine (though I've seen Rec so I don't plan to watch it), Milk & Serial (I plan to watch this one), Host, Blair Witch 2016, The Last Exorcism, and The Blair Witch Project.

I can at least give a top three:
    1) Noroi: The Curse
    2) Lake Mungo
    3) Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum
I know I loved Cloverfield when it came out, and The Poughkeepsie Tapes was terrifying (home invasion is the subgenre that scares me most), but I watched both of those like 10+ years ago so idk how they hold up. I was also freaked out by The Fourth Kind, but it's REALLY pushing it to call that one found footage lol.

As a Taiwanese, I'm so glad everyone likes Incantation😂 An internet celebrity said she was adopted to one of these religious homes. She was found n*ked in a cage, and transferred to another home. Even tied to a table as some sort of sacrifice. The fact that these things actually happen here is terrifying to me😨

I always check your reviews on movies I'm not sure whether I'd like or not, because I've find we rarely disagree on films and when we do I'm always shocked because it's so often consistent. Found Footage has become my favorite and I've found so many good ones because of you. I think I found you because of Skinamarink after I saw it in theater and was looking for people's thoughts, it's one of my top 4 favorite movies. Your recs that come to my mind that I now adore; Gonjiam Asylum (definitely one of the scariest movies I've ever seen), Host, Incantation, Rec, Deadstream, Lake Mungo, and the V/H/S movies. Anyways, super thankful for your content - you're my number one go to for horror reviews.

@ the movie is quite unnecessary itself. The acting is bad and the characters do the most unrealistic stuff. The last 15 to 20 min of the movie are the only thing i consider horrifying to the point I think it’s the only scary part of the movie.

    Top 5:
    5. The Taking of Deborah Logan- I knew it was fake(obviously they all are) cause of the one actress in this movie so I wasn’t immursed but the end of this movie…
    4. Grave Encounters-this movie is a bit cheesy in the beginning but the second half of it i’d say is still memorable
    3. Hell House LLC- what freaks me out about this movie is that I don’t live too far from the real location of this place and it is supposedly haunted in real life.
    2. VHS- classic. The first 2 I liked but I saw one of the newer ones and I thought the beginning was stupid so I turned it off(I don’t remember which one it was but it was newer)
    1. Gonjiam: Haunted Aslyum- my husband and I watched it and both of us got so freaked out for a few days after watching it.
**this was hard but honorable mentions go to As Above So Below and The Poughkeepsie Tapes. Hot take but I am not a big fan of The Blair Witch Project, however, I liked Blair Witch(2016) a lot more 😂

  • @g.mitchell7110

I'm going to go with something a little different: My top five movies that weren't on your list.
    1. Exhibit A: A devoted family man living in a pretty nice house is anticipating a big promotion and the purchase of a much nicer house. The family is anticipating moving from middle class to upper middle class. When the promotion doesn't come through as expected he slowly goes off the rails. I have a belief that good genre stories area always about something else in addition to what they're about on the surface. This is a movie about how some men define their entire identity around being a "good provider" and what happens when they believe that identity is threatened.
    2. Be My Cat: A Film for Anne: A young eastern European man is convinced he needs to become a filmmaker. In an attempt to attract Anne Hathaway to star in his movie, he hires unknown local actresses to star in his audition film, which turns out to be, well, exactly what it appears to be.
    3. Several episodes of Inside Number 9, most notably Cold Comfort and Mulberry Close. Cold Comfort takes place almost entirely on the computer screen of a counselor at a suicide prevention hotline. Mulberry Close consists entirely of footage from a motion-sensing security cam mounted on the front of the house of a couple that just moved into a neighborhood full of quirky characters. They're both 25 minute episodes of a TV show, so explaining anything else would risk spoilers.
    4. Contracted: Warning: The inciting incident involves necrophilia and SA. Following a painful breakup with her girlfriend, a young woman is SA'd at a party and finds herself infected with a mysterious illness. It's a slow burn from there as she tries to come to terms with and figure out what's happening to her. This is a movie where one of the most effective scenes of horror involves someone making a salad.
    5. Trollhunter: A reporter investigating reports of mysterious bear deaths discovers that the thing responsible is trolls. The neat thing about Trollhunter is that is bucks conventions by telling you pretty early on what's going on -- trolls are wandering the woods and the locals are trying to find and kill them -- and then it shows you the monsters early on and very clearly. The title tells you exactly what you're getting -- a group of hunters whose intended prey is trolls. Trolls the size of a two-story house.
Honorable mention: Without Warning: It isn't technically found footage, but it's in line with movies where the entire story takes place on a screen in that it's presented as a faux Special Bulletin being broadcast live. Three meteors all hit the earth at the same time, evenly spaced around the Earth at the same latitude. We follow news coverage as things ramp up from there. And that ending, it's a doozy. This is available in full on RUclips, at least a couple of different uploads.
