This is honestly the most RAD house I’ve ever seen. Good Job Johnny
Thank you!
Window & niche came out great! Be kind to one another . Stay safe. Love to all
SLAKE! One of my favorite tile words
Your favorite word is slake? Thought it was SkiResort
@@T.E.P. NOC! haha
You've reminded me why I never want to do tile again...
It looks awesome at the end, but it's a helluva lot of finicky work - go slow enough to be careful but fast enough that your mortar and grout don't go off before you're done...
Hah, I'm certainly not rushing to take on another tile project. It's a ridiculous amount of work but it's cool to see the final result and know I did it!
Looks awesome. It's a great detail that the tile in the shower niche lines up with the wall. Also, I really like how in this series you own up to your mistakes and explain what you think you should have done.
Glad you like it, thanks! This was a really tough project but I love the way the bathroom came together.
Johnny... This makes me happy... I so love your work... And weekly videos.
I have nothing to say really, but I appreciate your content, and wish to help with the yt-algorithms.
this is one the most impressive DIYs i have ever seen the outcome was spectacular amazing work and thanks for taking us with u
Nice job. I will save this video for next time I do a tile job.
Great job! I know that's a job I'd have my step-son do for me (that's what he does professionally). I've seen work done like this and admire the attention to detail required. Thanks for sharing the experience and information with us! Good luck to you with the rest of your projects!
Window in the shower, is a must to have in Italy :-)
Awesome to see the Finnegan Speed and Machine tee shirt! Good to know that some guys can hot rod and lay tile
Great work. It turned out really well. I learned only one thing watching you: I won’t be doing my own tiling. I don’t think I have the patience or attention to detail to have it come out nice like you.
To make a perfect holes in tiles, look for a drill bit made for glass: one with rounded triangle on a stick. It'll never walk on the tile, and the hole wil be absolutely perfect. Once You drill through the tile, You can switch to a regular concrete drill bit and continue through the wall.
Great tip!
The professional tile installers that did the tile in our new house were not familiar with the water goes downhill theory and angled the tile below the shower door INTO the bathroom, not into the shower. So kudos to you for remembering which way water flows!
Hah, always think like a roofer!
I wish this video was uploaded in August because I just actually completed the tile walls in my shower in August and the ONE THING I had NO IDEA HOW TO DO was to keep the tiles from sagging. I legitimately didn't hit the line I 'wanted to' for grout because of this.
So I'm keeping my eye out on that product for the next remodel of the other bathroom.
As far as how 'i did it' though; Not many people covered this lol. I decided to say 'screw it' and do '1 tile' on the wall to dry per well. I held it with literal duct tape, like 40 long strips of this lmao. It moved about 1/4 of an inch, which doesn't seem like a lot -- but it's a lot when you tried to line it 'perfectly' with a shower niche to find out after it setup hours later that it's just off the line, so you're going to have to 'live with that' for now.
So please, for the love of anything, you should do a review of that and try to make a short video that says "This is how you stop your tiles from falling when tiling a wall with large tiles!"
No one, and I swear to God, NO ONE has this in their videos.
Any Good or Bad suitation in your life comes because of three things, first what you think in your mind, second what you speak out to this world, third is based on your action and desires, make your thinking, speaking, action as clean as possible to make your life beautiful. 😀 Have a nice day 😃
I know it was a pain, but you can't argue with how fantastic it looks. Great work Johnny!
Thanks a bunch!
Love the Finnegan shirt!
Every time he laughs, take a drink!
Taking your time really paid off. This really looks clean! (Architecturally speaking)
Thanks!
Interesting trowel, I've never seen that type before...I'll have to try it out. It's a lot of work when you're the cut man, mortar man, and tile fitter.
Yes, definitely was hard work even with a helping hand for some of the project! That trowel style was recommended by Florida Tile so that's what I went with, seemed to work well.
Beautiful work.
Woww that is one amazing tile saw.
superb in all ways .... amazing videos and the results are glorious!
Wow wow wow 🤩 nice work
That's looking GORGEOUS brotha!
Beautiful work!! This looks absolutely amazing!
Thank you! Cheers!
Looks great 👍🏻
Great series!!
Ya did a fantastic job …. Been lookin forward to this vid
Nice work brother
Looks great !
Great job, that came out incredible! Thanks for sharing.
Slainte,
DC🍀
Beautiful work!!
Thanks!
Young man with great tiling skills
Thanks!
2x4 to stop your bit wandering is a good idea! Ive had success with a bit of painters tape on the tile to increase the surface friction and reduce wandering.
Good tip, I like it!
Really nice one.
Well done johnny.
Excellent video, excellent work!👍
Thank you very much!
another fantastic video. Great voice over on this one too, nice emphasis on how long that shower niche took hahaha
Really nice I do tile for a living
Great Job! I personally don't like the String-a-level system and putting screws through the precisely maintained water sealing even though it is small penetration. Also, I totally agree on the mitered trim pieces, I like them better too on my projects. The Mapei system is a good choice, I have never thought they are available in the US, too.
To the windoooow, to the niche, to the niche.
That String-A-Level system is pretty slick. Probably not totally necessary, but cool if you don't have any 1x scraps. Awesome job as always!
Yup, definitely not 100% necessary but if I installed tile for a living, I would absolutely have a system like this.
Great job. So many parts to the build, but good info.
Honestly speaking it looks 7star and above. Great job man.
Thanks!
Did a shower like this for a customer and they wanted a soap dish niche and a shampoo niche on same wall as shower head. I’ll have to say I think it’s best way. You don’t see all the clutter when looking into the shower.
Great series Johnny, but standing on the balcony when it's raining is so much easier. I do use soap of course and understanding neighbours. And a constantly runny nose and sneeze a lot . .
😂 don't think my neighbors would be too keen on that
@@craftedworkshop One of my neighbor's an ex con under constant video surveillance, and the my other neighbor is the copper controlling the video. Um . . Might be cocking up here . .
Great work on that bathroom tile job Johnny! Now I am very familiar with yet another project that I will never be doing in my house! Thanks..... 😂😂👍👍😉😉
Hah, it's definitely good to know what to contract out vs DIY!
Bonito trabajo 👌👌 saludos desde Chile 🇨🇱
Gracias!
Tile color and formatting reminds me of walking into the gym locker room in the 90s
Never been to a gym this nice personally 😂
@@craftedworkshop looks good 👍
Wait, I'm confused or missing something. When you installed that plastic bracket at the bottom to support the bottom row of tile, didn't you end up piercing your waterproof barrier for the shower? How are you ensuring there is no water intrusion behind the tiles and into the wall through those penetrations? Tile, grout, and thinset by itself does not form a waterproof barrier. I've never seen the Prova system before, always used Schluter shower system, which should never be pierced.
The first tiling we attempted was using large format tiles, about 10"x20". Definitely would not recommend if you don't have a little experience under your belt. Big lesson we learned was that your wall surface must be absolutely flat, otherwise you make a lot of extra work for yourself trying to compensate. This is exponentially compounded when working with large format tile. Your bathroom looks great! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks! Definitely all true with large format, which is why I was so careful when doing the waterproofing on the walls in a previous video. A flat wall makes for a much easier install!
Pretty awesome work, Jonny! It turned out fantastic! 😃
About window in the shower... Honestly I don't know one bathroom that doesn't have it this way here in Brazil. 😬
Go figure. 🤷♂️
Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
That's funny! Definitely not common to have it literally in the shower here in the US. Thanks!
Looks pretty nice. Just wondering why the curb is so high, any technical reason for that? Looks like a major trip hazard.
where can i get the plastic wall brackets for setting the second row of tile?
Cement pog
looks so good! why didnt you use your dewalt caulking gun to caulk the seems?
Thanks! I find it can be easy for that gun to get away from you when doing really tight work like this.
Great job. Could you give a total cost?
I like how the tilesaw has a bevel feature
It was definitely pretty handy!
For drilling tiles, try a glass drill bit
Yea, I could see the pointier bit working well!
What about a grab handle or steady rail on one of the walls or near/below the niche. There's one in our shower and it makes all the difference!
I've never felt the need for one but we could add one in the future.
How come you didn't use "red guard" or aqua guard on the walls before the tile ?
Red guard is for coating cement board since cement board isn’t water proof. The membrane behind his tile is waterproof.
I apologise if this has already been asked or seen in previous upload, but the skirting installed to brace the bottom tile from sagging...was it screwed through the waterproofing membrane? was there a waterproofing membrane or are you using different waterproofing system? I saw you use it on the window and got to wondering.
It was screwed through the waterproofing but I can't imagine a few tiny screw holes causing issues. The foam core kind of sealed up the holes when I removed the screws.
To drill a hole in tile, you must first break the surface of the tile with a sharp point, such as a scratch-all, by gently tapping the point on the smooth surface until you have a tiny chip or indent, then use a very small drill bit to start the hole in order to break the surface even more. Then go ahead and drill the size hole you want since now you will have a small depression into which the very point of your larger drill bit can sit. This way the bit will not wander around on you.
Good tip! We tried scratching the surface but didn't have anything sharp enough on hand.
Pro use good quality bit
What kind of grinder blade was you using? It looked like it cut like a knife through hot butter
Linked to the one I used in the video description 👍
On the window, i'd have choosen an aluminium frame one, i think it would last longer than wood.
As for me, wrong laying tiles (14:15). Need seam in center. In such manner you get 2 columns of big tiles parts, but 1 whole and 2 small on sides
Total Boat Elixer should work. I mean, it is meant for "soap & water cleanup" 14:30 😂😂
Never this early! Yay
🤘
To drill a tile just put a couple of layers of duct tape on and drill through that. Stops all the moving you had.
Every couple years I swear I will never do tile again. I usually install the curb cap before I install the bottom row of wall tile. Silicone is then installed horizontally. Installing after wall leaves a vertical gap to caulk, which goes under shower glass trim.
It turned out beautifully. Ceramic tiles are large in size, so its layout is not very convenient. There are many cutouts of complex shape.
Yup, definitely a lot of cutting and wasted offcuts but it's hard to beat the look of these large format tiles!

It's hard not to agree
Ohh shit did not even realized it was Sunday lol
Hah, glad I could remind you! 😂
@@craftedworkshop 😭😭😭 lol your the best I appreciate it because my garage goes out to night lol
7:32
I appreciate the challenges of filming in close quarters, but the autofocus failures make it really frustrating to watch.
The feature wall kinda looks like you ran out of plain tiles and had to use some with a funky pattern to finish doing the room; I would have used all plain tiles and just done a single row of the special tiles around the whole room to tie it all together and make it look uniform... but that's just me...
I totally disagree but a single row could have been cool too.
That door looks awfully narrow. Perhaps a linen closet door?
there are so many goos in construction
You say "shower window", I see an "upper shower niche". Lol
Hah, definitely could have worked for that! Probably should have just skipped the niche.
Why is cleaning it within 24hrs matter? Its tile.?
Because the thinset hardens and gets harder to clean off.
عربي🇮🇶💔😓
I don’t even want to know how your knees feel after all that. That’s always been the worst part about tile work for me.
Idk why I got this recommended to me
early :P
👌
You do realise that you just made bunch of holes in the shower that could cause water damage?
Everything so funny. Not sure why.
Why do you feel the need to keep commenting on that? It's how I talk, I laugh when I think something's funny. This is the third comment from you mentioning it.
