Best driver comparison / test video I've seen from any golf creator, and I watch them all. Seriously, keep doing exactly what you're doing, because this is a winning formula. Don't listen to the criticism of talking too fast. I followed along just fine, and there's no need to make the video last another 3-5 minutes. There was all meat and no fat, and you covered all the bases. Really nice job.
Great review. I hit these two plus the PING 10k max. All three felt good, but thought the Mizuno was a touch better. Qi10 definitely felt "soft". (but not unpleasant). I had similar results on spin with the Mizuno being a little lower spin for me. I swing slower (95mph) and went with the Mizuno.
I did a fitting and the mizuno max was lower spin for me too. I hit all the newer models 43010k qi10 etc. I'm such high spin and need all the help I can get.
I’m a big mizuno guy. I have my putter, wedges, irons, and 3 and 5 woods, all mizuno, I really wanted that Max driver to work for me, but the Calloway AI smoke max just won out for me. I thought it would’ve been cool to have an all mizuno bag…oh well. Great show, great review, thank you
Appreciate your support Ronald! There are so many great drivers out nowadays and that’s the beauty of testing. The AI Smoke is definitely a great head as well!
I just bought the ST-230 Max. I tested it against the AI Smoke and they were extremely close. At the end of the day, I couldn’t justify spending $100 more for the Callaway.
@@shaunkelley55 I think it’s great! I’ve gained 25 yards over my 4 year-old Tour Edge EXS 220. It has a muted sound at impact that makes you think the ball isn’t going to travel far, but once you follow the ball flight, you see that it has gone a long way. I’m also seeing tighter dispersion versus my old driver.
@@TheEquipmentJunkie No, I personally don't care for the look of the carbon on top with the obvious blend near the face. TSi3 isn't leaving my bag any time soon.
That’s why fitting is so important. I couldn’t stop hooking the mizuno. The QI10 Max was just a straight hitting, easy launching bomber with me. Both with my fitted shaft HZDS BLACK GEN 4 6.5 70g. Both 10.5 heads. Tried lofting down to open up but just couldn’t hit the mizuno straight. QI10 Max for me
Great review. I’m really interested in the ST-Max, but as a lefty, I’m having a hard time finding one to demo. Mizuno has done a great job expanding its lefty offerings in the ST-Max range - love that I could get a driver, 3W, 5W and 4H! But they haven’t sent any of my local shops lefty demo heads. Hope that changes!
Appreciate the kind words Eric! I know they’ve struggled at providing certain stuff for lefties in the past, but as you said they are definitely getting better in that regard. Hopefully you can test it soon, it’s a super solid head!
Appreciate the support Chad! Mizuno has done a great job in the metal-woods department these past few years. The 220 was such a solid head as well! Are you looking into the 230 for 2024?
i currently have the stx230 with both an A flex adila and a R flex riptide as I had a stx before the 230, so I get to switch shafts and both work well for me, I hope the ST max 230 is a bitt longer but even if it isnt for 200 bucks its a nice addition as a back up driver
Love my ST-X 230. I love to hit one good and people ask what it is. Love you have the OG of shafts there. I wanted that in my fit but another 300 bills was not happening. Maybe in time I can get it.
@@TheEquipmentJunkie The ST Max 230. Love the draw bias of the TM driver but the lower price point, comparable performance, and I’m still playing my mp-68s 😂 makes me lean towards Mizuno.
@@GoodKounsel Great points. A cool idea for you could be to try and pull a bit of weight out of the back section of ST-Max and replace it with lead tape in the heel section. May help get the draw bias you are looking for. Love to hear you're still playing the 68's, they are still such a solid blade!
I have the Mizuno ST 230 Max it is the best driver I have ever played, I am 68 and I’m getting some of the best numbers ever . I have been a low single figure player for 40 years and I still am, it has given me my distance back off the tee and consistency in dispersion that I have never know before, driver has always been my Achilles Heel. I am averaging 285 yards total with gusts up to 320 + yards. Mizuno Woods are now the most underrated woods on the market now!
Love to hear that David! I agree, Mizuno woods are crazy underrated and I think in the next 5-10 years or so they really may be a market leader. How did you spec out your ST 230 Max?
@@TheEquipmentJunkie I had a full bag fitting May last year in Bonn Germany by my friend Sinjin McNab. I tried the ST 230Z and ST 230X I preferred the X model we used the Mizuno shaft optimizer for shaft selection. When the ST 230 Max was released it was built to my spec, however using my club builder here in Spain we found it was only D 0 swing weight so we increased the swing weight to D 4 by adding weight to the shaft tip, also spline aligned the shaft to my adapter setting and aligned it with a touch of draw bias and now it just goes straight. I do have the occasional miss Q but the consistency is amazing.
@@TheEquipmentJunkie A little update!! I recently paid a visit to my club maker / builder here in Spain, although I was getting good numbers with my new max driver I had occasional dispersion issues. We checked the swing weight and found it to be very light D 0 so we added some weight to the shaft tip to increase the swing weight to D 5, we also Spline Aligned the shaft and set it with a slight draw bias. Two things I can feel the club at the top of my backswing better now the increased weight especially in the shaft tip helps to stabilise the shaft and gives me a high straight flight that with a little swing direction change I can add a little draw or fade bias. My dispersion is much tighter and it is now almost like cheating it goes so straight. This club will be in my bag for a long long time I think!
Thanks for a great comparison. I think I'm sold on the Mizuno. I would really like to see someone on YT discuss the difference in shaft options. I've been in love with Aldila NV 65 green for 20 yrs. and haven't found any shaft that comes close, and am curious about that Mitsubishi Kalil shaft.
Planning on a G430 Max 10K video here soon, but was planning on a head to head style video. If you could choose one head to go against the 10K, which would you pick?
Ping G430 Max 10K vs the PXG Black Ops. Lots of videos comparing the Ping G430 10K with the TM Qi10 Max already on RUclips. Mizuno woods don’t sell in the numbers that their irons and wedges do, which is why retailers don’t stock it. Which makes it hard to find at retail

I currently game the STX 230 Driver love it, would you say the Max is way more forgiving looks as though it just wants to go straight, really impressive
Tough to say as I actually found the STX to be one of the most forgiving drivers in 2023. Things to note would be the X is a bit deeper in terms of face depth, has a bit more heel weight vs. back weight. So if you struggle with an over-draw the Max could definitely be worth testing or if you prefer a shallower face depth. How did you end up spec’ing out your STX?
@@TheEquipmentJunkie I had the 10.5 loft dropped it down to 9.5 with the 60 s Kai’Li shaft at the standard 45” length, I do find the 45” shaft so much more accurate without loosing any distance though
Great video. Wondering whats your opinion between the STZ 230 and the ST Max? I am stuck between the 2 and currently play the STZ 220 and love it. I am just wondering the ST Max might have too much spin and launch. Thanks
Appreciate the support! 230-Z will definitely be a bit more fade biased vs. the Max in my experience. You shouldn’t have any issues with getting ST Max launch/spin in the right window as long as you have the room to put it maybe 1-1.5° lower on the loft adapter.
