My wild theory is that there will be two handhelds. The Playstation Q and the Playstation Q Lite. The Q would be a whole new portable console like the Vita / PSP, while also having remote play / game streaming options while the Q Lite only has those remote play options. I agree that this is a niche scenario but I would be super excited for the remote play. There’s only one TV in my house, so when someone is using it I can’t. And, while my phone can run the games, the screen is too small, it gets too hot, and I don’t want to drain the battery of it if I can help it
I think the idea is pretty neat. I do understand it as such, that the handheld is remote playing the PS5‘s screen onto this device. With that Sony does not need to run big servers to compute games of tons of people. The computing is local on your own Playstation. The hardware itself could be much, and i mean very much, better than a Smartphone on a kickstand-remote play-Bluetooth DualShock-Hybrid kinda situation. I would consider such a hardware to being able to play my games on my actual own PS5 on the go when I have to travel or just want to lay in bed etc. and continue when i come back to my gaming setup/ big screen. The only thing would be the price. It needs to be affordable, for that what you get (a dumb controller with a built in screen and internet connectivity). Edit: even though it‘s Sony and it‘s probably gonna be kind of expensive, I still hope that I would be wrong since, they wouldn’t need extra servers for this..
The Nintendo Switch, Steam Deck and Rog Alley still sound better. If I can play TLOU, RDR2, or whatever on the go on this new thing, then I’ll be interested.
I agree and disagree with both because there's one factor that will make the difference to me. I would absolutely buy a dedicated cloud gaming device if it's in the $200 or under price point. Otherwise a Steam Deck or other device makes more sense
I agree that its dumb to add more cloud gaming devices to an already seemingly endless amount of devices that can do it. If the Playstation handheld can play games on device, then yes, make that. That's what we want more than a cloud gaming device. Compete with the steam deck because right now that's the handheld to beat.

@@jmgonzales7701 i tend to agree, if I could get an android phone that played my physical Vita carts along with working as a solid regular phone, I'd be a buyer for sure.
If it ends up being $100 I can absolutely see the appeal. You're getting a big 16:9 screen with proper attached controllers. On a phone you'd have to prop it up and use a normal controller, or buy some expensive attachable controllers that aren't as good as the dual sense. You'll also have a smaller screen, which get's even smaller because of the black bars on either side. The problem is that it wont be $100.
As an iOS user, or just someone who uses my phone for business, the last thing I want to do is play games on my phone. I have a dedicated Ayn Odin for local streaming, cloud, gaming, and emulation. The battery last forever, it’s completely gaming focus, customized in that way, it makes me feel excited to use it. At around 200 bucks, the lite version is a great option. Any more than that, it doesn’t make sense.
I’m definitely on Austin’s side and to add to the whole wanting the dual sense experience when you use remote play with a actual dual sense via Bluetooth on your phone you still get the haptics and adaptive triggers and guess what to make it more comfortable you get those brackets that hold both your phone and controller together which you paying mostly about $20 because you already have the dual sense assuming that you already have the ps5 and the dual sense works with other apps as well
I’m with Matt. If this was something that does great remote play at home and OK-ish cloud play away from home, it’s easier to market a distinct handheld than telling people to just use their phone. Little kids don’t have phones, for example.

Whats important is how well the connection works. We have our PS4 in our living room.We are a family of six. The amount of time i actually get for gaming is vey limited. I do play on my phone, but if it would work as well as it does on my Switch... that would be wonderful. At the time it kind of sometimes work. The PS TV was horrible, it lost connection ALL THE TIME.
From my point of view what i want from this handheld is 1. to download my games that i have in my library and play them whenever i whant , it shuld not require to allways be connected in this case, 2.remote play my games from the ps5 (whatever disc i have inserted) internet connection will be required in this case...well tehnically a steamdeck with psn interface that will allways be connected to my console and account, i myself will pay top bucks for that
*I seriously think Sony should make a VR handheld type console/Handheld device that stream games and you can play VR games plus it has remote play feature....I think that would be dope*
Honestly, it has a place. I use my psvita for remote play all the time on my lunch break. That experience would be horrible if i used my phone as a touch screen is horrible for trying to play any game that isnt basic controls. Sony's device is great for the space for those like me, wanting an actual controller and not touch screen. Not everyone wants to carry around an extra controller with whatever brace thats needed to attach your phone to a controller for remote play or cloud gaming. Even the usb controllers that attach to your phone isnt something that people want to fiddle with. Just a dedicated device just for the service you want to use. Which is why I use my psvita for remote play and not just my phone. I tried the controller and phone method its not comfortable for me. More hardware is always welcome. There is a market for it, and there are those of us who want it. I highly doubt they are expecting everyone or even half of its user base to buy one. Im looking forward to its release. Gaming on the go has always been big for me. Too many places have long wait times even with appointments. And its nice to be able to play my Playstation games when im in these situations and have an enjoyable experience rather than a miserable one.
I feel that this could potentially be a handheld for old school games as well as ps3 content with the edition of re Orr play bring the ability to play new age games.
knowing sony it would be impossible or even if it happens it would have a limited library (due to ownership of the game reasons. It would be like pre installed or have a shop that has first party games (which is not a lot).

I 100% agree it should be native and not cloud or remote play based. I loved what Sony did with the PSP UMD discs back in the day. Is it not possible to have a system that would utilize micro SD card slots to store games and play them natively on the console? That would be the best solution IMO
Tbh what sony should do is revive the sony erricson. Phones are our lives today, if they manage to combine gaming and smart phones together it will be competitive in the market. why n-gage 2?
It is possible to use remote play over the internet. I have a PS4 in one house and a PS5 on the same account in another, and i can remote play on the PS5 from my PS4. My experience with this has been much better than with any cloud gaming (including Sony’s own offerings). I think Sony must be doing something clever with how they send the data over remote play as it seems quite responsive. Having a handheld that could play PS5 games on via remote play on the internet seems like a compelling option.
Cloud gaming will never fully replace hardware. Is there potential, yes but it’s not the future if you can’t store a game in your device and play it without worrying if you’ll still have a signal
I would LOVE for them to include a tiny amount of onboard memory so you could include 1/2 local games played at 720/1080p Being able to leave your home and take your PS5 progress in your offline solo game with you would be a game changer. The steamdeck can do it, surely Sony can
Tbh what sony should do is revive the sony erricson. Phones are our lives today, if they manage to combine gaming and smart phones together it will be competitive in the market.
Given that even Sony camcorders run Android under the hood and are fairly hackable to unlock frame rates for example, it's pretty likely that you'll eventually be able to sideload stuff onto this system.
The argument in my eyes here is more along the lines of convenience. Cloud gaming has potential for being more convenient to some people than other people while other people prefer going the extra mile for something with a better experience. The point about price is huge though because all of this doesn’t make sense at the price point but as soon as you get some pretty good hardware with a good price that lets you have more features it’s more tempting for people
I guess im one of those weird ppl that use their phone for the core phone functionality. i tend to be chatting when im out and about, so a gcloud makes sense to me. plus the fact its basically a tablet with controllers attatched and most games recognize the controllers, it been a great addition to my life.
The difference between the PS TV and whatever this is that being rumoured, is that the PS TV was practical, it played your Vita games, PSP games and PS1 games on the TV and you could move back and forth between your Vita and the PS TV, if this this thing is only remote play and maybe some cloud gaming, I don't see it being a success, hopefully, there's much more to it and it ends up being a successor to the Vita
I'd love to see a PSP2, with a 120hz OLED & BFI (a Sony OLEDoS would be even more amazing, those have 5000+ PPI), backwards compatible with PSP/PSV and able to emulate PS1, PS2 and maybe even PS3 games, that would be a love letter to the PlayStation brand, a huge library of games on a nice well-designed Sony handheld with a beautiful Sony OLED screen, sign me up.
A somewhat new psvita basically its a streaming device that is built solely for remote play meaning you will need a ps5 that near by to play your games on that device just like how they use on the psvita back in the day
I was really into running emulators on my phone like 10 years ago. It seemed really cool and novel at the time. I even got an HDMI cable to play on my TV with a bluetooth gamepad. I think it was a Sony Xperia. The novelty wore off fast when I never had any battery for.. you know, using the phone.. as a phone. Also I couldn't charge the phone while it was plugged into the TV so that was a time limiter. My first Razer Phone faired well, but it would overheat like crazy after a while. I had to wrap it in a cloth and stick it in the freezer for 10 minutes to cool it off. I'm really happy having a dedicated device these days, the Switch has been great. No cloud gaming for me though. Yuck.
Just release another Xperia Play phone for Christ's sake, that thing was my absolute favorite device back in the early 2010s, I'd give both my iPhone and my Vita for that in a heartbeat
any handheld SONY puts out will kill it straight up just like how the PSPVIta raised and then fell so fast that it couldn't keep up with the portable DVD player or the Nintendo DS that came out and just straight up flatten the PSPVita sales
Personally, I'd be ok if this was just the hardware from the PS Vita in a larger screen. On the flilp side, I just don't see myself getting one if all it can do is remote play. Not if it is more than $99. Maybe $199 at the highest.
The only handheld I've ever owned was a PSP. Not the Go or Vita. It was actually really good for what it was, with an internet browser and all. I ended up modding it to put emulators on, and played it for over half a decade before it broke. 😅 If they made something with native games, and left it moderately easy to break into (instead of locking it down), I would probably buy it as a handheld. Until then, I'm looking more at a steam deck. Kinda holding out for a steam deck v2. 😅 Maybe if the steam deck v2 comes out, and the original gets a price drop I might pick up a steam deck original
The latency with cloud gaming kills me, and using it for remote play is a useless feature for me. I live in a 1 story apartment. If I want to play my PS4 games, I would just do it on my PS4
@@Adens3 there's been issues with the official Sony remote play app , I recommend trying to use the PSplay app it's a few bucks but works better then official Sony app , you also have to keep in mind the hardware you are running it on , I have the Razer edge and it has enough ram & wifi 6 built in fan & this is all streaming remotely from T-Mobile 5G home internet so yes it sounds like there's an issue with your setup somewhere on if it's just your internet or device itself
The steam deck is highly overrated it runs Linux overlay that's meant for low powered devices I'm not saying it's bad but definitely overrated, v1 I feel is a beta test set for V2 of the steam deck to come in the next few years
I was thinking companies may do more of a hybrid approach when it comes to cloud gaming. Where the console would have decent specs but 50% to 75% of the work is done somewhere on a server. But some of the work is done on the console it's self.
I think it could get a lot of sales if it works solo but better with a ps5/4 so people can get a better experience then the switch without getting a 100$ handheld and need a 500$ console
We need a sequel to the expira play. I apho ewoth a biult in controller made for cloud gaming would probably sell pretty well. Basically imagine an RPG phone with a built in controller.
What if they make it and be like a wii U Gamepad kind of thing. The Wii U gamepad was amazing at doing the remote play part of it. I played wind waker like that and played BO2 with no noticeable lag.
Cloud gaming PSP would be completely useless. I’d rather use remote play on my iPad. Why not just add a remote play feature while also making a standalone console
I'm with Austin, this has to be an actual standalone handheld not another remote device. Playstation has already made the DualSense controllers be able to pair to phones and tablets AND they basically sell their own version of the Razer Kishi and third option for this "remote play" experience would be completely useless and looked over because of the cheaper alternatives from Playstation themselves if this thing costs hundreds of dollars.
I’m sure if it’s a remote play dedicated device then Sony will take advantage of the fact that the PS five can broadcast its own Wi-Fi for the device to connect to giving you a seamless experience with no interruptions on the network.
I feel like dedicated hardware only makes sense, if the connection technology is something that lets you play these games remotely, but without internet connection. So kind of like, remote play optimized bluetooth? It probably makes no sense, but to me it's the only way to justify that initial cost. Essentially, think of something you buy for your console to turn it into a Switch. Is it practical even then? I mean gaming laptops have a huge market, so it's possible.
IF Sony comes out with a controller with a screen that allows me to cloud game EVER first person IP for a monthly fee of like $10-20 a month and it works correctly then I would pay the $100-150 for it. But it can not be JUST a streaming game from "my own console". It needs to be actual cloud streaming.
I play remote play on my phone. Why would I buy an Playstation portable that is just remote play? If it was an actual good portable game system. I think it would be something that I would get. I mean, I do have the steam deck. And it's nice. So, Playstation would have to really bring it for anyone to actually look at it.
I think Austin is right. If i have a phone and a backbone from xbox i can cloud game. For $115 you can cloud game on a device. A playstation only remote play device is a expensive device that means nothing, you are forced to only have remote play. Probably not will be 299
i think for the first time i disagree with your conclusions. as someone who lives in a region that cloud gaming is not supported in i rely a lot on remote play when im travelling or even when in collage and have some free time. first to counter the phone argument, i dont believe anyone can have repeatedly long sessions of gaming on a phone, whether its because of notifications, phonecalls or just the whole phone in a controller weird setup. the closest thing I have to achieve a good remote play experience is a first gen GPD Win Max, but even that has its downsides (battery life, wrong aspect ratio, getting the built in controls to work with the remote play app). Now think of it this way, this new device is just an accessory for your PS5, same as the Wii U game pad. if it can give you a seamless hassle free remote play experience regardless of the haptic features i think its gonna be a huge win. also hopes and dreams here, if they could somehow get the remote play protocol to work better with this device than what they could with the PC and mobile apps it would be awesome. like i remember remote play on the PS vita with the ps4 you could connect through the network or wifi direct, and wifi direct had a much better experience (lower latency and higher bitrate video)
Got myself a Rig Nacon retractable controller and PSplay on my Galaxy that works great for emulators and ps5 remote play. As well as Game pass. Much cheaper than these cloud devices. Definitely don’t expect emulators to work on this new device.
We don't need a remote screen for an already existing console. Something that's built for its own games is far more appealing, like a Switch competitor or successor to the Vita.
I'll say the same thing I've said about the Xbox handheld rumors. Make it a part of the ecosystem and make it play as many of your previous games as possible, I'm in. But I'm nowhere near able to say that I have any interest in cloud gaming because I've yet to have a good experience on it. Performance for native gaming and I'm in.
I can just use my iPad which is bigger and does more, so unless it’s super cheap it will flop. Also who doesn’t have the ability to buy a cheap TV to put in another room, like who is the target audience here?

They should add a cross buy system in place so you can play your PS4/PS5 games without requiring an internet connection and keeping remote play a the secondary feature it was originally intended to be
Ps4 ps5 can't run on a mobile chip tho
@@AlejandroCaicedoPUJ fair point. I just hope it’s more than just a remote play device is all.
@@AlejandroCaicedoPUJ PS4 could probably be pulled off by some of the Ryzen 7000 APU's. PS5 definitely not.
I think this will end up being a Steam Deck like device with the ability to play ps1, 2, 3 ,4 psp, and ps vita games locally and then game streaming for ps5 games.
@@DarthCiliatus 99% sure it's gonna be an arm chip, not X86 so not even ps3 support at least today
whats that i dont get it?
My wild theory is that there will be two handhelds. The Playstation Q and the Playstation Q Lite. The Q would be a whole new portable console like the Vita / PSP, while also having remote play / game streaming options while the Q Lite only has those remote play options. The Q would be something like ~$350 in order to compete with the Switch and the Q Lite would be ~$150 in order to make it seem worth it for people who just want cloud gaming or streaming and nothing else.
That would make a loooooot of sense.... even the name suddenly makes sense under your theory!
Genius
Tbh what sony should do is revive the sony erricson. Phones are our lives today, if they manage to combine gaming and smart phones together it will be competitive in the market.
@@jmgonzales7701 Really great point!

Sony knows what they are doing with handhelds right until they launch it.

I agree that this is a niche scenario but I would be super excited for the remote play. There’s only one TV in my house, so when someone is using it I can’t. And, while my phone can run the games, the screen is too small, it gets too hot, and I don’t want to drain the battery of it if I can help it
I always enjoy these videos where the two of you debate a topic. Always interesting to hear both sides !
I can see where Matt is coming from but I'm more with Austin on this one.
These debate type videos could be in an hour long podcast format and I’d watch the whole thing
I Need New Ps Vita!!! I Still Have the Old One!!! 👌🏻😃👌🏻
The Nintendo Switch, Steam Deck and Rog Alley still sound better. If I can play TLOU, RDR2, or whatever on the go on this new thing, then I’ll be interested.
This makes complete sense. Not everyone has a setup. Has a spare tv. Has a room to go to. This works
This reminds me of the old Sony Ericsson Xperia Play phone.

@@bluewombat yes. Its a market opportunity for sony. They are stupid to not see
They need to make this new psp happen
If it ends up being $100 I can absolutely see the appeal. You're getting a big 16:9 screen with proper attached controllers. On a phone you'd have to prop it up and use a normal controller, or buy some expensive attachable controllers that aren't as good as the dual sense. You'll also have a smaller screen, which get's even smaller because of the black bars on either side.
The problem is that it wont be $100.
I just know this thing is gonna be cracked wide open within a month of it dropping
I’m definitely on Austin’s side and to add to the whole wanting the dual sense experience when you use remote play with a actual dual sense via Bluetooth on your phone you still get the haptics and adaptive triggers and guess what to make it more comfortable you get those brackets that hold both your phone and controller together which you paying mostly about $20 because you already have the dual sense assuming that you already have the ps5 and the dual sense works with other apps as well
Austin your videos are the best there’s a high demand for influencers like you. Do your thing homie !
So Sony is trying to make a WiiU gamepad for PS5...
I’m with Matt. If this was something that does great remote play at home and OK-ish cloud play away from home, it’s easier to market a distinct handheld than telling people to just use their phone. Little kids don’t have phones, for example.
They should just do the Xperia play 2 tbh, that would just be perfect
Tbh what sony should do is revive the sony erricson. Phones are our lives today, if they manage to combine gaming and smart phones together it will be competitive in the market.
Matt is right. Cloud gaming is the future. But if this thing only does remote play, I can't see why anyone would buy it.
From my point of view what i want from this handheld is 1. to download my games that i have in my library and play them whenever i whant , it shuld not require to allways be connected in this case, 2.remote play my games from the ps5 (whatever disc i have inserted) internet connection will be required in this case...well tehnically a steamdeck with psn interface that will allways be connected to my console and account, i myself will pay top bucks for that
ps vita completly underrated asf would recommend to pick one up . easy jailbreak too
"follow MY logic for a second" you tell 'em
*I seriously think Sony should make a VR handheld type console/Handheld device that stream games and you can play VR games plus it has remote play feature....I think that would be dope*
Looked like bro got startled in the beginning 😂💀💀
All Sony has to do is make a modern PS Vita. That’s it. They were already ahead of the game
I feel that this could potentially be a handheld for old school games as well as ps3 content with the edition of re

If it’s a retro-PlayStation machine I’m all in.

knowing sony it would be impossible or even if it happens it would have a limited library (due to ownership of the game reasons. It would be like pre installed or have a shop that has first party games (which is not a lot).
Tbh what sony should do is revive the sony erricson. Phones are our lives today, if they manage to combine gaming and smart phones together it will be competitive in the market.
I 100% agree it should be native and not cloud or remote play based. I loved what Sony did with the PSP UMD discs back in the day. Is it not possible to have a system that would utilize micro SD card slots to store games and play them natively on the console? That would be the best solution IMO
sony should ditch all this and hit up nokia and make the n-Gage 2 together
Tbh what sony should do is revive the sony erricson. Phones are our lives today, if they manage to combine gaming and smart phones together it will be competitive in the market. why n-gage 2?
Damn 6:24 Austin got me thinking 🤔
Sony would sell more units if they allowed Xcloud to be played on it but I wouldn’t count on them doing it
I totally agree with Austin today
I would LOVE for them to include a tiny amount of onboard memory so you could include 1/2 local games played at 720/1080p
Being able to leave your home and take your PS5 progress in your offline solo game with you would be a game changer. The steamdeck can do it, surely Sony can
1080p 120hz minimum
Ps vita should come back as PS vita 2
with sony actually supporting it
Tbh what sony should do is revive the sony erricson.
I played a Gamepass game on my phone and I'm like "these are incredible times we live in."
an actual psvita successor would be really cool however a control with just a screen tethered to your ps5 just sounds like a Wii U by sony
What’s up austin keep up the work
The difference between the PS TV and whatever this is that being rumoured, is that the PS TV was practical, it played your Vita games, PSP games and PS1 games on the TV and you could move back and forth between your Vita and the PS TV, if this this thing is only remote play and maybe some cloud gaming, I don't see it being a success, hopefully, there's much more to it and it ends up being a successor to the Vita
Yuck.
Cloud gaming isn't what people think I is I agree with u cloud gaming is trash with all that latency is just bootyhole kinda like gamepass
If I want to play my PS4 games, I would just do it on my PS4
sorry to say it will go some years before that will happen
Data caps exist in home networks as well. 1.25TB for most companies. Downloading a game these days takes a tenth of my data already.
Your shirt makes me proud to be from rochester.....Jay Street
I have an iPad mini 5 and a gamevice. I stream Xbox and play COD. It works great and cost little compared to stream etc.
What if they make it and be like a wii U Gamepad kind of thing. The Wii U gamepad was amazing at doing the remote play part of it. I played wind waker like that and played BO2 with no noticeable lag.
I wish there would be an actual successor to the ps vita. The vita supported cloud gaming with ps3/4 and had 3g and it had its own games
I'm 💯 percent with Austin! But the arguments of both were interesting. 😊
Sony is like a blind deaf dinosaur staring at an empty wall saying: I have an idea!
Sony already has the ps vita did that with the ps3 and 4 and there is no latency
Not trying to hold my phone while I play I’m very excited . Lol
I love my ps5 and vita. I really hope they bring something out that can combat the switch and steam deck
Remote play is the worst idea I've ever heard... cloud gaming is bad but remote is even worse
Remote play is basically the same thing as cloud gaming. Your game is being run on a remote system.
I used remote play on the Vita and it was useless, even if the Vita and PS4 were in the same room it would be buggy as all hell 🤦🏻♂️
@@austinkoeppen6122 it's not the same as you'll need a ps5 but x-cloud can be done with the stuff you already own / mobile phone
Soo this is like a wii u
I play remote play on my phone. Why would I buy an Playstation portable that is just remote play? If it was an actual good portable game system. I think it would be something that I would get. I mean, I do have the steam deck. And it's nice. So, Playstation would have to really bring it for anyone to actually look at it.
I think Austin is right. If i have a phone and a backbone from xbox i can cloud game. For $115 you can cloud game on a device. A playstation only remote play device is a expensive device that means nothing, you are forced to only have remote play. Probably not will be 299
love the chainbear shirt :)
i think for the first time i disagree with your conclusions. as someone who lives in a region that cloud gaming is not supported in i rely a lot on remote play when im travelling or even when in collage and have some free time.
first to counter the phone argument, i dont believe anyone can have repeatedly long sessions of gaming on a phone, whether its because of notifications, phonecalls or just the whole phone in a controller weird setup.
the closest thing I have to achieve a good remote play experience is a first gen GPD Win Max, but even that has its downsides (battery life, wrong aspect ratio, getting the built in controls to work with the remote play app).
It would be a great gift. I would not go out and buy one myself, however, if someone gifted this to me, I am sure I would be happy with it.
If Sony does make this handheld and it only can play remote play games, it would be smart for Sony to make their PC games work on this as well
I'll say the same thing I've said about the Xbox handheld rumors.
