Even then they would struggle unless they go the premium angle. No one can really compete with the Steam Deck because like a console, Valve is able to sell the thing on razor thin margins with the expectation of making the profit on future game sales.
@@philippecr what are you talking about? All PC handhelds can run steam. Steam is not exclusive to the steam deck. Steam is available on virtually ALL computers period.
@@wavytoad9983 I think you misunderstood what I said, Steam has the Steam Game Store to subsidies for a cheaper SteamDeck, while all other handheld PC and cloud gaming devices don't.
@4:00" You guys should really mention that Razer only updated that chart to 6GB for the Wifi version AFTER they started selling them - for months prior (and during the pre-order window) they advertised the Wifi model as 8Gb RAM - AND the "New G3x Gen 1" that promised the latest Adreno GPU is actually just an SD888 - AND it doesn't support exFAT format, so running anything off the Sd card bigger than 4GB is a no-go.
To clarify, you can still format microsd cards over 4 GB as FAT32, but each file in the card cannot be over 4 GB in size individually. So if you are not going to be storing games, ROMs, or other files over 4 GB in size, you can still utilize up to 2 TB of storage as a whole. note: support for exFAT is planned for a future update as mentioned on Razer's website, so when that is available you can store files without a size limit. (yes I know that there is technically a limit to exFAT, but with a 2 TB drive it is not possible to reach it.)
@@ImJustPassingThrough it does not mention this on the site, but some sources say that the device runs android 12, which in some older kernels does not support exfat out-of-the-box. android 13 does and newer android 12 kernels, but I guess razer did not have that feature in their priorities.
There's two things wrong with the route Razer went: the Ayn Odin Lite is out, which also has 5G for ~$200, and is a dedicated Android gaming device, and Aya Neo is coming out with the Pocket Air, both of which can be used as dedicated cloud gaming with some emulation, and for the same price as the Razer Edge, you can get Steam Deck or Nintendo Switch. Razer is kinda shooting themselves in the foot with the price tag, but the hardware being able to be utilized with other phones is a decent idea.
They can't simply change how economics work. Look at which phones have similar performance, they're all premium high end devices. It just looks like a poor choice when compared to the steam Deck tbh, at beast for that level of performance. And the steam Deck (and switch, even though performance wise it is actually far weaker than the Edge) has the advantage of being a platform where users can spend more money on.
I think the idea was a nonstarter with the fact it can't do anything more than your phone already can. I mean are you really going to carry a whole second phone just to stream games? The only defense I could see is "to protect my phone battery" but you can get a $20 battery bank to solve that while this thing is $400. How is that supposed to make sense? And hardware performance barely matters at all for cloud streaming. Even if your existing phone is weaker, it probably will run the streams at the same quality as all your device needs to do is buffer a video file and ping your button inputs. I just don't see the point when you already have the same device in your pocket now and all you need is the controller.
The biggest problem with this and other cloud gaming devices is that they are devices. Cloud gaming could totally be a huge thing, but let us use our phones. They already have similar if not better hardware in them. If they let Google Stadia run on the Pixel, they could sell more Pixels than the ever dreamed of selling Stadia controllers.
You can use you're phone. Issue is the aspect ratio for mobile use is poor for gaming resulting in black bars reducing the phone screen size significantly. Then you add in the abysmal battery performance, reduced size of the controllers due to the size of phones, often weird heat issues for sustained loads etc etc. Depending on what you play some people might prefer a dedicated device. I'd say cloud streaming is one thing but a huge market for these is oddly in home portability for streaming your own local devices.
They should have made a mobile plan for stafia instead of the stupid controller. It was doa "dont they have phones at google" it was literally a match made in heaven ... I gues the different departments were on different office building and instead of parallel development they went totally different ways
You can definitely use your phone and get a better experience. The selling point of something dedicated, like this is that you're not tying your phone up and sapping your battery with a game. Is it 100% a necessity? Nah, but it's definitely something that could be a nice to have. I think the main issue with this one is the specs for the screen are great, but the processor isn't. Same goes for Logitech's cloud gaming device
As someone with an iphone. I love carrying around an android phone with a controller. Its way smaller than a steamdeck woulda been. Its also nice not getting any notifications on it. But compared to dedicated emulation devices i like having the option to replace the controller options
So three use cases for this: 1. I want a separate device from my phone to have a portable and easily pocketable device because I worry about my phone's battery 2. I have a kid who loves gaming but they are too small for a steamdeck. 3. I'm looking for a nice, lower price tablet in the small/mini form factor
I think this device makes a better case study for a phone AND the Razer Kishi (either V1 which is $40 right now, or V2 at $99). I don't think it's a complete loss for Razer. I just think that most people would be better suited by products that they already have a available for customers.
If it was better optimized for battery life and/it had a bigger battery, I could maybe understand it. But I ultimately agree with Matt, I would rather buy a Steam Deck over one of these.
I totally agree with matt!!! You really need a 5g connection to play most modern games effectively on the go. 4g has too much latency which makes gaming on the go crappy.
I'm not alone in thinking this that the whole "dedicated Android game streaming device" category is stupid. Either get a Switch or Steam Deck. Or if Android gaming and emulation is your thing and your current phone isn't up to the task, maybe its time to just upgrade your phone to one that is up to it. If all you want to do is emulate, get one of the many Anbernic or Retroid devices or something similar and save your $$. For the vast majority of people, just gaming on their phone or getting a better phone instead of this or the Logitech or something similar is the route to go.
That's the problem with a lot of these Android based devices, no matter how much potential a gimmick something has it's still going find itself beholden to being built off an Android tablet and software designed for phones.
It's true. Most manufacturers just do some work to reskin Android. I don't think I've seen anyone tried to go from the base AOSP and reconfigure that to make it their own like what Valve has done. At the end of the day, Valve took a distribution of Debian and modified it to suit their needs. They put in the work and it shows. Someone could just as easily do the same from AOSP and custom build their hardware around it but that too would be a bigger lift than a "reskin".
Interestingly the new Kichi is a lot similar to the Backbone One. It’s the same form factor. The only difference is I can se a couple of additional buttons.
Just picked this up for $150 used, very pleased with it as a sort of regular utility tablet (I’m working on getting Linux running on it natively). It’s basically the only modern tablet on the market under 8inches, and more powerful than any 8inch tablet other than the Legion Y700.
I'm looking to buy a handheld gaming device next month that isn't a Switch. I have a Ps5, Series X, Switch, S23 Ultra....... honestly can't justify this one, even if I love their products. Fact of the matter is that a base Steam Deck gives far too much value to compete with.
My main issue with android gaming is that it's still not advanced much further in the past 5 odd years. what big releases has there been? GTA ports, a final fantasy port, bully.. there's no AAA development for android. we've all played asphalt racing, we've all played san andreas. It seems as though it's emulation that's filling the gap.. not sure if this is to be blamed on casual gamers or micro-transaction greed?
Getting Kishi v2 and using it with my POCO F4 , and totally love it especially for playing emulator, remote play, and gamepass. The downside is the analog is small and switch like, not support fast charging through, but other than that it was perfect
You still have better options though. You could use the Work/Home profiles that most phones have nowadays to separate things or you can buy something like the Ayn Odin which isn't as powerful but costs half as much. I was doing some research about this and found that you can order an Lenovo Legion Y70 from Lenovo's store on AliExpress for $330. It is a Asia only device, so it might not work well as a phone in the west, but It will work fine as a Wifi gaming device. It is a gaming phone, so all it's specs meet or exceed that of the Razer Edge. It significantly beats the Edge in performance because it has the newer Snapdragon 8+ gen 1, while the Edge's SoC is based on the Snapdragon 888. Even when you account for the passive vs active cooling it still wins by a wide margin (based on 3D Mark's 20 minute stress test). The Y70 plus a controller roughly matches the price of the Razer Edge Wifi, depending on what controller you pick.
I have the kishi v2 pro and my phone that i use for it is the nuu A25 gaming phone, and it is basically the ravor edge and only cost $279 for the controller and the phone. Plus i have the steam deck OLED and i love them both
This isn't a bad product, it's just very specific. You need to be looking for exactly this in order to want it over the other options out there. It's a very niche market that they're going for and that's why it doesn't fit in anywhere else
yeah this is basically perfect for me, I want a dedicated emulation and cloud streaming device. that has an OLED Screen. and this is a good value product for that. there are other options that are more versatile but I cannot stand awful IPS screens. this is by far the cheapest and most powerful device with a 120hz plus OLED that can stream reliably and play any emulated games up to wii
My intentions was to get the edge 5g. But when I found out the line would be $20 a month on top of the $15 a month for the edge that was a non sell for me. I recently got the s23 ultra for verizon and after the trade from my s21+ I'm financing $12 a month. Then I was told about the gamevice flex a much better controler than the razer it has a measurement system that let you use the controler with a phone with a case and it fits perfectly on the s23 ultra!!
hold up, hold up, you haven't reviewed the Nacon mg-x pro which I have and I love it. I demand you do a comparison of both the controllers connected to the Razor Edge 5G
Exclusive cloud gamer here. Totally agree that a high end phone paired with a controller is the optimal experience. The downside I have for the phone is: the screen is still a bit too small for AAA games, so things like reading text and navigating open worlds are hard on your eyes. This product would make sense If it had at least an 8" screen and the software experience and battery life were on par with a high end smartphone.
Switch comparison falls apart when you look past the initial cost of entry. A single Switch game costs up to $70 USD these days. That said, a phone you already have (or will upgrade to) is a much better option. Even cheap phones have comparable specs to this.
However, you're paying for the cloud gaming services too. A switch at $200 gives you enough money for 5 $70 games with about $50 left (not accounting for taxes, compared to the 5G version of course). Even more if you buy the switch games used or don't buy the AAA titles at release pricing. Just think, you have your $10 data plan for the device, plus Xbox Gamepass Ultimate a $15, plus with GeForce NOW you need to already own the games you want to stream. Sure, this device gives you a different library, but it's not cheaper. It locks you into paying for gaming monthly forever (or at least until they shut down the services or remove games you want to play), instead of buying the game once on a cart and owning it. With the switch, you can pull it back out in 20 years and keep playing. Not so much with this, it will be deprecated at some point and you will have to upgrade to a new device to keep accessing the services, even for games you own and play through GeForce NOW, and even for native Android games that don't require a subscription when Google Play removes the device from their supported devices list. TLDR; Switch is a better deal, these companies are trying to get you locked in to paying for gaming as a service forever instead of just buying a device and owning it and the games free and clear.
The point is, why do that? You're only increasing the restrictions towards the portability of the device and you're increasing the overall price. It's mostly a pointless device in a market where such a device should be thriving just because of the insane prices.
Instead of getting a razer edge I went with a z fold 4 and a bps-d3 telescopic controller that can connect in 3 different configs including as an Xbox wireless controller and it runs cloud gaming really well and any emulator or Android native game super easily, even after a couple of hours of bouncing between cloud gaming cod mobile and fortnite and never once did it even get warm. Yeah the fold 4 is $2000 but when you get it on a payment plan through like Verizon as I did I'm only paying $90 a month it's not that hard to afford at all. Also the controller is only $26 and it surprised me with how well it works
I really DONT understand why most “reviewers” don’t mention emulation at all. Most of us saw this as a cheap Snapdragon processor, emulation beast. The “yeah just use your phone” argument goes away when the phone they are recommending is over 600 bucks. I bought this thing for a portable PS2, GC, Wii and it’s great at that.
The thing is that you're buying a separate device. Instead of buying this thing, why not just buy a more powerful phone? Same thing for the same price, fewer devices and you'll use it more frequently.
@@JohnEusebioToronto the thing is I’m an IPhone user, i had an S21 with a Kishi V1 doing the same thing before but it was a company phone. That setup was way over 600 USD. I don’t like androids for everyday use but I do like them as emulation machines. cheapest 888+ phone is around 400 plus the 100 for the controller, I’m not comfortable with traveling with another expensive phone, nor the steam deck cause it’s size is a bit too much.
@@anthonyms3049 bro I don't know what phones you're looking at but you can sure as hell get 888 or even 8gen1 under 400 usd. If you are only using it for emulation, no need to buy flagships with high-end cameras, that will raise the cost. OnePlus 9 series with 888 or Poco F4 gt with 8gen1 can easily be grabbed under 400 and they are more powerful than Razer edge. Heck, if you are fine with Renewed, S21 with sd888 is under 250. There's just no reason to buy Razer at all
i got it for $300 so its was $200 tablet without the controller. alot of cheap tablet stop working in like 3 to 6 months so im hoping mine will last 2 to 3 years. also, i just ordered it hence watching this video.
@$400 you can get a bunch of good used PC parts and have an actual gaming PC. There are deals all the time on marketplace or ebay, or craigslist. You can even get a walmart refurbished PC and add a decent gpu to it and game on it with lan connection. no crappy wifi dropping out. Yeah, you lose portability but thats just about all youd actually lose. And besides, in a year or so the steam decks will be on marketplace used for 400
Does this have screen mapping software for the controller?? As far as I know, the g cloud didn't, which is insane to me. An android device with a controller that you can't use in most android games. Another of the major reasons I like the Steam Deck is the customization in how you control your game, you can tell any button to do anything.
What Austin don’t understand is most people have iPhones and those cannot run emulation software. I have an Odin for that purpose. This is not an exclusive Cloud gaming device but for emulation. It can exist side by side with the Steam Deck because I don’t want to be carrying a heavy brick just to play 2D games or PS1 games.
The whole idea of a separate controller attached to a tablet makes lots of sense and gives amazing versatility to the device. But Razer has to improve certain things. The tablet must be at 7"+ inches (8'' like the PS portal would be amazing) otherwise as many viewers said, you can use your phone instead. In that size there is a valid reason to use the Razer instead of your phone and also to use the tablet for other content consumption. It would make perfect sense and I would buy one tomorrow as with one purchase I would have a tablet, a gaming console and a controller to use with my phone when I don't wanna carry the edge around.
I don’t exactly need something that goes with me, to be honest the switch is my choice for games on the go just for simplicity, but my computer is in my room and when I want to play a game but hang out with people in the living room it would be nice to be able to have a device for streaming from my pc to me in the living room. I know there’s a couple options for that but I want oled and high refresh preferably 500 or less and 1440p. The solution I’m coming to is an android tablet with some creative mods and 3D printing skills.
As someone who prefers cloud gaming (I know we have some ways to go still) this device would replace my tablet i use for work and sometimes home and give me that nice screen gopd streaming capability and a ubsc straight connect with a lovely controller I'm already familiar with. I love using my phone but I need my phone to be able to communicate at any given time for work or kids etc. That actually hinders my ability to enjoy games on it.
I think it will be hard for people to make a cheap and decent cloud gaming devices because they still need to make a profit. Other competitors like Xbox, Steam Deck, Switch can sell their stuffs cheap because they can still get their profits from the software like games and their own cloud gaming. So the best mobile cloud gaming device might be the phone you've already owned (even if the specs are weak, you would rather buy a new phone with that much money)
I agree I don't know where this product fits I bought the Razer Kishi version 2 and stuck it on my phone which is more powerful then razors tablet then a few months later they release this I don't feel like I'm missing anything and actually my phone looks better in the controller anyways because it has no bezels on like on the razor
Verizon Razer Edge 5G current deal: $329 with financing and monthly credits. $10 a month plan requires you already have another Verizon device and $80 plan. I grabbed a Razer Edge 5G UW phone for free(finance and monthly credits). Austin said hold time or delay on getting. I got mine delivered in 2 days. I went in next day to phone and they had stock in store.
Razer missed some major opportunities with this device... By just shooting for just cloud gaming... It's a full spec Android mini Tablet with wifi/ cellular service which could have been compete against an iPad mini... and or Switch OLEd screen... Not Steam Deck...7.5" or 8" screen slab 16x9 Ratio... 1080 P... Stylus support...kick Stand like a surface and 2 USB-C video out support...need I say more...
The funny thing is I kind of agree with what Austin is saying except I actually disagree with he is saying. Basically so if you can use your phone for it why would you get a different device? Just use your phone. For me personally though I disagree because while some people might be comfortable using their phone like that For me I'd rather have a dedicated device just for the video games and use my phone for other things. If you're comfortable using your phone that is 100% the way to go vs an android handle.
I personally don't want to use my phone to game. I know you CAN use your phone but don't want to drain the phone battery gaming and put up with all the phone functions while gaming. I own a Logitech G Cloud only because I care about cloud gaming/streaming and I wanted the 7 inch 1080p screen and it is awesome for that.
The big issue... is Cloud gaming is only worth it with mobility. If you are going to sit at home playing games on Wifi you might as well get the Xbox Series S or Switch. So it brings us to the Mobility. And 5G is just not available or reliable in enough places around the World. I have been a HUGE supporter of Cloud Gaming for the better part of a decade as I have believed it to be the true future of gaming. But we aren't there yet. sadly
Nothing wrong with it... just for someone who has a ps5 and looking into a steam deck and has that same controller that the razer edge has but on a ultra s22... u would literally miss phone calls and messages and that's being hooked up to wifi but it puts the device in priority mode and sets everything in do not disturb
There's two issues I've noticed just on my own right off the bat. One being the price. It's far too pricey for the experience that it offers. The other being that this is an Android device coming from Razer. I don't know if y'all remember the Razer Phone, but just judging by how that only got Android support and updates for a year, then Razer practically forgot about it, I'm not too keen on buying a new Android device from Razer. I've got a strong feeling this will end up just as the Razer Phone and Phone 2 did.
I need someone to review this thing with emulation in mind. I wanna know if this can breeze through ps2/wii emulation. Cause that’d be huge, on a small form factor as well.
I mean, many newer snapdragon processors handle Wii okay, PS2 has always been rough. But to be fair PS2 is still rough even on PC today after decades. Basically it's got the same processor as a smartphone from a year prior. It's about 20% weaker than the current 8 Gen 2 or about 15% faster than an 8 Gen 1. I'm sure in the near future there will be a dirt cheap 8 Gen 2 phone anyways likely from someone like Xiami.
To me it makes no sense. In what case would I carry this and my phone for portable gaming? Plus if it's cloud gaming, it doesn't matter how powerful my device is, all it needs to do is render a video file. The major selling point of cloud is that you don't need good hardware so saying you should buy this instead of even a lower end phone also doesn't make sense. The only benefit of it is "so I don't drain my battery" but you could have just carried a battery bank worth $20 or this $400 secondary phone. It doesn't make sense.
If you break down the price. The controller is worth 100 dollars, so then the tablet itself is 300 dollars. It’s pretty hard to find a smartphone for 300 dollars with a snapdragon 888 (which the gen 3x is an overclocked 888). I feel like Austin has a pretty good point. I have a pretty crappy android phone and a decent gaming laptop that’s more powerful than the steam deck. I feel like this device would make more sense for me than the steam deck because of the better screen and battery life. When my main use case would be emulation and maybe sometimes cloud gaming or streaming from my laptop. Not to mention I would play the hell out of league of legends wild rift on this thing.
I haven't used a Steam Deck or Steam OS, but for me a few of the benifits of this I could see are: Much nicer screen (OLED, high refresh, verses what seems to be a pretty subpar screen experience on the Deck) Snappy, touch first Android interface (Steam OS seems to be pretty good in this respect, but I've got a OneXPlayer and Windows is slow to boot and using it with the touch screen only is not an amazing experience) Although honestly, the fact that it's just a screen and a Kishi is actually a major downside to me. I'm much prefer they lean into the gaming experience and give it an all it one form factor like the Ayn Odin - just with much better specs.
there is no reason for this to exist. Your phone is already in your pocket so all you need is the Kishi, your phone should already have better specs than their tablet. If you want something that is dedicated to game on the go for $400 get the steam deck like Matt said. if you are looking at the 5g version for $600 still get the steam deck, otherwise just spend that money getting a better phone.
For android games, get a gaming / high end phone. For Nintendo games, get a Switch. For PC games get a gaming PC / steam deck if you can't afford a good gaming PC. And of course, a PS5 for Sony exclusives. The Razer Edge pro is pointless.
I enjoy cloud gaming so much that I've levelled up my Shredder's Revenge Characters further on Xbox cloud gaming than I have on the steam version I purchased.
On my cheap assed Samsung A32. I'm looking at a device with a snapdragon 695 in it. I'm hoping I'll be able to play skiyline on it better than my current device; which won't play beyond 17 fps.
I just use galaxy s22 ultra on wifi. At 120hz can play everything from android to A.C. Vahalla through Xbox cloud pass or geforce now..runs great with or without Xbox controller
I have the razer kishi v.1 and v.2 I'm the type of person that trades in my phone every 6 months so I always have one of the most up to date phones in the market. If you're like me just get the kishi controller by itself I just use it to stream my PS5 from anywhere
For that price you’d just assume buy a steam deck, or buy a good phone. These days those markets are starting to really blur the line, and Versatility is going to win out. I don’t want to have three devices I want one device two at max. The only advantage I see is the 5g connectivity but even that is starting to change with hotspot plans becoming more normal.
Honestly if you are upgrading this year from a phone from 2 years ago don't buy this recycle your old phone and turn it into this the power is equivalent to a two or three-year-old chip at this point.
Maybe if Razer focused on their phone ecosystem, this could've been great. It seemed like they gave up on their phone line waaaaay too soon considering how great the phones were till they stopped supporting the Razer Phone 2. This could've been the Razer Phone 3 with flagship specs or close to it, their lil gimmicks, the Kishi, and would've been multi-purpose as a daily driver and portable gaming device. I gave up on them after investing in a Razer Phone 2 and accessories thinking they were gonna take the line seriously and was sadly mistaken. Watched stop supporting the device within the year. No more updates outside of security, no accessory support while they were making things for iPhone and Samsung, and a lack of any sort of device promotion mere months after
Umm is it just me or are those specs not much better then the razer phone 2? I had that for a few years and it ran games great but after a while camera n phone functions were not so great. That n the battery & port was shot too after a while. Had to keep it on a wireless charger for the last several months of its life lol
I think the only ones that could compete would be Microsoft or Sony coming out with cheaper, yet locked down devices. Imagine a new $200 PS Vita with native support for Vita games, maybe PS1 or PS2 games, through a PS store and then just access to the Playstation cloud gaming service.
I'm not going to get it but Verizon is offering the 5G one for $10 a mo for 36 months which makes it cheaper than the wifi if you are a verizon customer. I get that offer anyways.
Razer would have been much better off making a reboot of their original Edge Pro to go head to head with the Steam Deck
Even then they would struggle unless they go the premium angle. No one can really compete with the Steam Deck because like a console, Valve is able to sell the thing on razor thin margins with the expectation of making the profit on future game sales.
They didn't go head to head with the steam deck. This isn't powerful enough to play native PC games. For that reason, this product is stupid.
Many other devices similar to steamdeck which can run PC games can't even compete with Steam simply because of having the Steam Game Store.

@Carl Gunderson stadia , Dead On Arrival or doa
Maybe I'm misunderstanding your comment, but you can totally run cloud games on your phone. I've used Xbox Cloud Gaming on my iPhone, for example.
Lol I died when Austin came in an said, yeah actually Matt is right 😂
You can definitely use your phone and get a better experience.
DND MODE
So three use cases for this:
1. I want a separate device from my phone to have a portable and easily pocketable device because I worry about my phone's battery
2. I have a kid who loves gaming but they are too small for a steamdeck.
3. I'm looking for a nice, lower price tablet in the small/mini form factor
I think all these cases are covered by just a Switch Lite (for just $199)
@Y.B.A yes but it can't play pc games
I think this device makes a better case study for a phone AND the Razer Kishi (either V1 which is $40 right now, or V2 at $99). I don't think it's a complete loss for Razer. I just think that most people would be better suited by products that they already have a available for customers.
And I thought 299 for the G Cloud was pricey for a cloud console. WTF RAZER.
If it was better optimized for battery life and/it had a bigger battery, I could maybe understand it. But I ultimately agree with Matt, I would rather buy a Steam Deck over one of these.
Update. The Edge is great for warzone mobile. The fans keep it cool and running smooth while my S23 Ultra barely makes it through a single game
I totally agree with matt!!! You really need a 5g connection to play most modern games effectively on the go. 4g has too much latency which makes gaming on the go crappy.
Now I think about it. I wonder if this is left overs from their Razer Phone 3 that never released lol
i would definitely choose Razer Phone 3 over this :P
If it was Linux based and you could install linux(steam os) it would be top tier and a big competitor for steam deck
@@nexusyang4832 no one wants to build/make a better os but they can pump out devices very fast .. they're all lacking in the software know how
You mean x86 based
Interestingly the new Kichi is a lot similar to the Backbone One. It’s the same form factor. The only difference is I can se a couple of additional buttons.
Kishi>
I just got it and I love it. The screen is great and plays all the games and media I want it too. I have the 5G Version.
Genshin and that's about it... and it doesn't even have controller input
Getting Kishi v2 and using it with my POCO F4 , and totally love it especially for playing emulator, remote play, and gamepass. The downside is the analog is small and switch like, not support fast charging through, but other than that it was perfect
The last minute Austin insert broke me 🤣
I believe the Razer Edge is a great alternative. I use my phone a lot for work so I dont want any games for it. Is not too large like the Steam Deck.
yeah but it's a very bad alternative for the price, steam deck might be big but the power in it is ages better
Great if half the price
You can find an older smartphone with SD 8 gen 1 and 5g for alot cheaper right now and just plug the controller.
dont phones nowadays have like a work/personal profile that lets you seperate both
You still have better options though.
I have a Razer Kishi that I use with my s22 ultra for cloud gaming, never felt the need to buy a pc or console for gaming.
I was just wondering how it would fit on my Duo 2, thanks for showing it!!
If you go with something bluetooth like a bsp d3 you can have it with the bottom screen lined up with the controls and the top screen on top like a ds
@@andresacosta5318 yea, that would be a much better look.
Basically. For the price it just can't do much to differentiate, but if you look at the hardware itself and the price, it's not really a bad deal.
No it’s just a terrible product
yeah this is basically perfect for me, I want a dedicated emulation and cloud streaming device. that has an OLED Screen. and this is a good value product for that. there are other options that are more versatile but I cannot stand awful IPS screens. this is by far the cheapest and most powerful device with a 120hz plus OLED that can stream reliably and play any emulated games up to wii
@@Time-Travelling-LesbianI travel way too much to bring my PC each time plus it runs just like a pixel 7 at 250$ and better hz
My intentions was to get the edge 5g. But when I found out the line would be $20 a month on top of the $15 a month for the edge that was a non sell for me. I recently got the s23 ultra for verizon and after the trade from my s21+ I'm financing $12 a month. Then I was told about the gamevice flex a much better controler than the razer it has a measurement system that let you use the controler with a phone with a case and it fits perfectly on the s23 ultra!!
matt took my steam deck and now the razer edge 5g is the only way to game in the This Is basement
Y'all get 5g in a basement???
hold up, hold up, you haven't reviewed the Nacon mg-x pro which I have and I love it.
6:48 If it supports bypass charging, you can get around that by hooking up a 20 000mAh powerbank and drain that battery instead.
The point is, why do that? You're only increasing the restrictions towards the portability of the device and you're increasing the overall price. It's mostly a pointless device in a market where such a device should be thriving just because of the insane prices.
how does the 5g work on this thing? like a phone, or do you have to connect it through your own phone?
5:06 as a steam deck owner and fan I love that you said this. 👍🏽
There's just no reason to buy Razer at all
Do the 5G version suck battery life like the Sega Game Gear did 🤷🏼♀️❓🤷🏼♀️
i got it for $300 so its was $200 tablet without the controller. alot of cheap tablet stop working in like 3 to 6 months so im hoping mine will last 2 to 3 years. also, i just ordered it hence watching this video.
Appreciate the honest feedback. Saved me a lot of headache.
Razer is trying to solve a problem that doesn't exist
The whole idea of a separate controller attached to a tablet makes lots of sense and gives amazing versatility to the device. But Razer has to improve certain things. The tablet must be at 7"+ inches (8'' like the PS portal would be amazing) otherwise as many viewers said, you can use your phone instead. In that size there is a valid reason to use the Razer instead of your phone and also to use the tablet for other content consumption. It would make perfect sense and I would buy one tomorrow as with one purchase I would have a tablet, a gaming console and a controller to use with my phone when I don't wanna carry the edge around.
Whats the point of having 144hz display if it only use for cloud gaming?
how is the tablet used as a tablet? It reminds me of a nexus 7
Have you guys ever considered the backbone as a competitor for the Kishi?
Love this channel man
I don’t exactly need something that goes with me, to be honest the switch is my choice for games on the go just for simplicity, but my computer is in my room and when I want to play a game but hang out with people in the living room it would be nice to be able to have a device for streaming from my pc to me in the living room. I know there’s a couple options for that but I want oled and high refresh preferably 500 or less and 1440p. The solution I’m coming to is an android tablet with some creative mods and 3D printing skills.
i have the pixel 6 and with the camera bump of the pixel 6 and 7 the razer kishi will not work on the pixel 6 and 7
As someone who prefers cloud gaming (I know we have some ways to go still) this device would replace my tablet i use for work and sometimes home and give me that nice screen gopd streaming capability and a ubsc straight connect with a lovely controller I'm already familiar with. I love using my phone but I need my phone to be able to communicate at any given time for work or kids etc. That actually hinders my ability to enjoy games on it.
If I gonna pay $400, I would rather spend it on better phone and carry only one android device.
so does this hold up today as a Mobile fortnite device?
i would have headphones and hot spot from my phone.
You should make a video testing out Temu tech (very similar to wish but faster shipping)
keep an eye out on austin's main channel this week ;D
We’re the settings cranked? The fan is obnoxious
I agree I don't know where this product fits I bought the Razer Kishi version 2 and stuck it on my phone which is more powerful then razors tablet then a few months later they release this I don't feel like I'm missing anything and actually my phone looks better in the controller anyways because it has no bezels on like on the razor
Verizon Razer Edge 5G current deal:
$329 with financing and monthly credits.
Not Steam Deck...7.5" or
8" screen slab 16x9 Ratio...
But we aren't there yet. sadly
Just get a used ROG Phone 5 or 6. You can find an 18GB RAM ROG Phone 6 Ultimate like 900 Euros. And they're only getting cheaper.
And the Razer Edge is only 375 euros for similar performance.
I love my Razer kishi version 2 use it almost every day for a couple games
Why this vs an ODIN or a Retroid Pocket 3+?
Nothing wrong with it... just for someone who has a ps5 and looking into a steam deck and has that same controller that the razer edge has but on a ultra s22... u would literally miss phone calls and messages and that's being hooked up to wifi but it puts the device in priority mode and sets everything in do not disturb
Came here for the razer review left wanting to know where you got that banging Genny beer shirt
Do you know where I can buy a pre built pc
Let me know when this goes on fire sale for $99
It can now be had for sub $250... even just the "tablet" for sin $125.... thoughts?
What’s in that little can . Is it a energy drink I seen it in many videos
I'll just keep my Galaxy Note 9 with my Razer Jungle Cat controller
I haven't used a Steam Deck or Steam OS, but for me a few of the benifits of this I could see are:
Much nicer screen (OLED, high refresh, verses what seems to be a pretty subpar screen experience on the Deck)
Snappy, touch first Android interface (Steam OS seems to be pretty good in this respect, but I've got a OneXPlayer and Windows is slow to boot and using it with the touch screen only is not an amazing experience)
Although honestly, the fact that it's just a screen and a Kishi is actually a major downside to me. I'm much prefer they lean into the gaming experience and give it an all it one form factor like the Ayn Odin - just with much better specs.
Both Austin and matt refer to the switch multiple times forgetting that you can indeed play switch games on the edge via skyline
there is no reason for this to exist.
😂 best line was the cut near the end.
400$? Yeah, no, I'll be getting an Xbox series S, everytime.
Vahalla through Xbox cloud pass or geforce now..runs great with or without Xbox controller
im a razer phone 2 user. i have this already. 120hz screen and a kishi
I feel like most people could buy a used Razer Phone 2 and a Kishi and get away with a similar experience for WAYYYYY less than $600
Did he just make the perfect NDS emulator when he put the windows phone on there?
Get some sort of adapter to flip the port?
My z fold 4 does great with Xbox cloud service. Don't need a razer tablet. But that kishi is fire
13:30 - The DS we needed but can't afford. :D
Imagine a new $200 PS Vita with native support for Vita games, maybe PS1 or PS2 games, through a PS store and then just access to the Playstation cloud gaming service.
i have seen alot of videos where they use it for retro gaming.
I'm not going to get it but Verizon is offering the 5G one for $10 a mo for 36 months which makes it cheaper than the wifi if you are a verizon customer. I get that offer anyways.
Would Have Been Cool To Have A Port Of Pc/Console Game For The Razer Edge Ngl.
