Echidna rarely shows much emotional range due to her Authority, but she does have strong feelings, positive or negative, regarding the other witches. I'm betting it has something to do with Satella and whatever happened 400 years ago that wiped most of them out.

What if Emillia did the second trial and saw the things that happened to Subaru? That would surely be heartbreaking to her to see someone she loves be hurt so badly. Edit: (spoilers for the newest episode) So I was wrong about that and as an Emillia fan I am happy she didn't have to suffer seeing that but also if they did that it would be such a powerful and emotional scene but the scene we got was also super powerful and emotional just positive and I am very happy now!

My bet is the first one to figure it out eventually will be Betty.
