I was stationed in Japan 84-87 I was at this show with my Japanese girlfriend We were sitting in the seats and I look over my shoulder and see Whitesnake standing there I raised my arm like a high five and they sent one back!! Too cool! Ahhh memories!
I saw them live in 1984 where the line-up was David Coverdale, Cozy Powell, John Sykes, Mel Galley, Neil Murray and the legendary Jon Lord on keyboards ... it was one of the best gigs that I ever attended !
My favorite lineup of Whitesnake🤘. Unca Cozy and Neil Murray leveled the stadium. My only "complaint" about this footage/audio is that i believe more emphasis could have been put on the old man's drum sound as it sounded very rushed and restrained sonically.
My favourite Whitesnake line up is Lord/Murray/Moody/Marsden/Paice/Coverdale but i still enjoy this one. John Sykes is a great musician and Cozy Powell is a monster drummer. Powell has a totally different feel from Paice but each on is amazing in their own style.

Great concert. Cozy was a great rock drummer, but to play the song Ready & Willing right you have to lay down a groove and make it swing ... which never was a problem for Ian Paice !
The best line up bar none old stuff sounds bluesy but up to date , new stuff sounds heavy doesn’t stray from the OG blueprint too much . And the playing out outstanding across the board
God i love CP but I prefer TA, just personal preference of course they are both awesome, just love TA so much from the Pat Travers days….. RIP CP!! A true legend 🥁🥁!!
John was the sound/guitar of WS from 1984 until Coverdale pulled a coup in 1987. I give John credit for not.....him! John would have been a world renowned rockstar guitar god after the 87 tour.
Thanks for the upload, but they are badly missing the 2nd guitarist sound, pre late 1984, My Favourite line up was Lord, Paice, Murray, Moody & Marsden, but then I'm a huge fan of the 1978-1984 (slide it in) period. Your either a fan of the blues/rock sound, or the 'glam', US rock sound.I find John Sykes over rate, Mick & Bernie were just as good.
An my for ever best Line up David Coverdale Doug Aldrich/ Adrian Vandenberg Marco Mendoza Jon Lord RIP Master Cozy Powell RIP you Drum Beast/ Tommy Aldrige What do'ya mean?
Best Whitesnake formation ever IMO, and John Sykes certainly the best guitar of this band. Even great Steve Vai couldn't reach the level to which Sykes brought Whitesnake.
Bingo. John is the perfect rockstar guitarist. Personally I find virtuoso guitarists like via, satch, malmsteen and a couple dozen others BORING! Yeah, for the first 5 minutes they blow your mind and after that it's a big YAWN!
I still say it's when they had Paice, Lord, Moody and Marsden. I like Sykes and Powell but they didn't quite have the synergy, and frankly I never even learned the keyboard player's name, but he sure ain't no Jon Lord.lol
I do think that the best lineup included Ian Paice, Neil Murray, Jon Lord, Micky Moody and Bernie Marsden - certainly THE best rhythm section and I believe the Marsden, Moody and Coverdale songwriting provided the majority of the better songs. Plus, the band had more light and shade, not just bludgeoning their way through the back catalogue as the metal band they morphed in to from '87 onwards.
David says they have a great future in Sykes and the rest of the band….. Too bad shortly afterwards he fired all of them…. Yes, it was a truly special lineup for 4 years….
Been doing some research on this and yes, evidence suggests it was Richard Bailey ex Magnum on keys. Apparently he was made to play behind a curtain off stage. What an insult!! He does a great job in not only filling in for John Lord but also covering the 2nd guitarist role!
On many songs there seems to be a playback keyboard track...too bad. I like John Sykes on "Thunder And Lightning" but I'm the long term I think he crushes all the bluesy feeling of the songs
I hear a 2nd Coverdale vocal track on the choruses. So they are playing to a click or he added it in post as it says he produced the audio. Sykes' vocal is lower than Coverdale's harmony on many of the songs. Strange Richard Balley on keys wasn't on the start credits. Great to see Sykes and Cozy together, he was supposed to be the drummer on Blue Murder but he walked out during the rehearsals so Carmine Appice got the job. Sykes gave both Lizzy and Snake an almighty kick up the arse, what a player!i
Sykes reminds me a little of EVH in that these are monsters who are so well loved by fans - admired - and young kids could learn so much but substances, whatever, maybe it's depression or something, but they hide and are almost invisible. They owe us nothing, but it would be nice if they allowed us to enjoy their gifts. But I can't imagine fame myself so I can't judge them, just wish they were having more fun
I think it’s depression in Sykes case , he left Lizzy and Phil for Whitesnake , got the old Spanish archer before the self titled came out Phil was already dead by that point Blue murder was a brilliant but unfortunate bust and his solo album never competed with with past work in terms of sales and recognition . That’d be hard to comeback from for anyone. . I struggle with it as well . Sometimes even the things you love can’t bring you happiness when its bad
@@megaduck7965 John never looked or seemed depressed to me. Pissed off and no doubt thought about doing something massive to Coverdale for being a weasel scumbag and stabbing him in the back. If his Blue Murder solo album came out 2 years earlier, and the same for the band Danger Danger they would have sold 1 million albums each and did headliner tours. Loser grunge and hip hop killed the rock music scene and it never recovered. What did you want John to do? Play small empty dive bars? He wouldn't have made a dime.
Richard Bailey, but he was placed side of stage throughout his tenure with the band - reportedly because they were presenting themselves as a quartet once Lord departed and Mel Galley was then unable to play guitar following an injury earlier in the tour.
Apropos: I knew a Swiss Band in the 80s that played at a Festival. Back then I took Photos for them. At first they wanted the Keyboard Player to play behind the Curtain, but luckily they decided to change. The Keyboardist made almost half of the Sound. Today they can be proud, because the Guy soon went to America and has great success as a Producer there. The others haven't achieved much to this Day
