I was stationed in Japan 84-87 I was at this show with my Japanese girlfriend We were sitting in the seats and I look over my shoulder and see Whitesnake standing there I raised my arm like a high five and they sent one back!! Too cool! Ahhh memories!
John sykes absolutely killing it.....guitar and vocals!
never heard a live recording with such prominent and clear bass sound
Best whitesnake line up this.
Neil Murray, what a bassist! The underrated member of perhaps the most classic / best Whitesnake formation
Agreed!
He smokes Rudy Sarzo!
I saw them live in 1984 where the line-up was David Coverdale, Cozy Powell, John Sykes, Mel Galley, Neil Murray and the legendary Jon Lord on keyboards ... it was one of the best gigs that I ever attended !
@@TheHumbuckerboy wow! I bet it was!
@@chrishawkins2267 It really was amazingly good !
My favorite lineup of Whitesnake🤘. Unca Cozy and Neil Murray leveled the stadium. My only "complaint" about this footage/audio is that i believe more emphasis could have been put on the old man's drum sound as it sounded very rushed and restrained sonically.
Thank you for sharing ........Cozy Powell will always remain my fav drummer.
R.I.P Cozy.
Also recommend Porcupine Tree drummer he is mix of Neil Peart and Portnoy❤❤
Cozy Powell on drums! ♥️
My favourite Whitesnake line up is Lord/Murray/Moody/Marsden/Paice/Coverdale but i still enjoy this one. John Sykes is a great musician and Cozy Powell is a monster drummer. Powell has a totally different feel from Paice but each on is amazing in their own style.
I've had the privilege to see both drummers live totally outstanding
Mine too.Thats the essence of the whitesnake!
Classic Lineup Ready n Willin such a Great Album ¡ This Lineup is Awesome too¡
Yep, mine too.
the best Whitesnake line up of all....
I agree!
Sykes at 46:30.. wow...and Cozy Powell's drum solo, incredible..
Thanks for the upload, but they are badly missing the 2nd guitarist sound, pre late 1984, My Favourite line up was Lord, Paice, Murray, Moody & Marsden, but then I'm a huge fan of the 1978-1984 (slide it in) period. Your either a fan of the blues/rock sound, or the 'glam', US rock sound.I find John Sykes over rate, Mick & Bernie were just as good.
Great concert. Cozy was a great rock drummer, but to play the song Ready & Willing right you have to lay down a groove and make it swing ... which never was a problem for Ian Paice !
I love Whitesnake, but honestly, I just came here to see John Sykes. There are only a few videos with good quality of John playing with Whitesnake.Thank you for posting this! ♥
Sykes is a great player, but I quite honestly prefer Bernie Marsden. Better tone and frankly better solo construction/phrasing.
You should see/hear John Sykes on Tygers of Pan Tang.
@@KickflipGnasty Marsden is from the real Whitesnake, in my oppinion. Bluesy!
@@santannavalter Couldn’t have said it better myself.
Really….!? After earning his Corporal Stripes playing for Thin Lizzy Sykes was “ Head Hunted “ by Coverdale to “ Raise the Game”..
and people are still talking about the “ Mechanisms’ of the music industry …? Sykes was dumped ..as was Cozy and Neil Murray.. Bernie Marsden would of looked F’ n spectacular Rockin out with Steve Vai and Adrian Vandenberg on MTV with his straw bota hat..🤔🙄👍🤘😎
Mr. Colin "Cozy Powell" Trevor Flooks Rip🎶 🎼😭🙏
Whitesnake it's my lavely group of Rock, and David Coverdale are the BEST singer of Hard Rock ever!!!!!!.......
I hear a 2nd Coverdale vocal track on the choruses. So they are playing to a click or he added it in post as it says he produced the audio. Sykes' vocal is lower than Coverdale's harmony on many of the songs. Strange Richard Balley on keys wasn't on the start credits. Great to see Sykes and Cozy together, he was supposed to be the drummer on Blue Murder but he walked out during the rehearsals so Carmine Appice got the job. Sykes gave both Lizzy and Snake an almighty kick up the arse, what a player!i
An my for ever best Line up
David Coverdale
Doug Aldrich/ Adrian Vandenberg
Marco Mendoza
Jon Lord RIP Master
Cozy Powell RIP you Drum Beast/ Tommy Aldrige
What do'ya mean?
This is the best Whitesnake line up.
I do think that the best lineup included Ian Paice, Neil Murray, Jon Lord, Micky Moody and Bernie Marsden - certainly THE best rhythm section and I believe the Marsden, Moody and Coverdale songwriting provided the majority of the better songs. Plus, the band had more light and shade, not just bludgeoning their way through the back catalogue as the metal band they morphed in to from '87 onwards.
Espectacular, previo a ROCK IN RIO, donde alcanzaron la eternidad...
The best line up bar none old stuff sounds bluesy but up to date , new stuff sounds heavy doesn’t stray from the OG blueprint too much . And the playing out outstanding across the board
by far.....by far the best WS lineup, and with one guitarist,Whats that tell you?
John was the sound/guitar of WS from 1984 until Coverdale pulled a coup in 1987. I give John credit for not.....him! John would have been a world renowned rockstar guitar god after the 87 tour.
Who needs 2 guitarists when you have John Sykes....
Sykes is just Brillant

wonderful - this technics today - great love to white snake
that solo is awesome....... wow..
Which one was that ? LOL .
@@johnbeauchemin3074 good call 😂
Best Whitesnake formation ever IMO, and John Sykes certainly the best guitar of this band. Even great Steve Vai couldn't reach the level to which Sykes brought Whitesnake.
Bingo. John is the perfect rockstar guitarist. Personally I find virtuoso guitarists like via, satch, malmsteen and a couple dozen others BORING! Yeah, for the first 5 minutes they blow your mind and after that it's a big YAWN!
super group..performed at super rock show..superb🔥🤘🔥
That was good, the drumms of legendary Cozy sounds like for kids, but is great
Greatest line up with Cozy Powell and John Sykes!!!!
God i love CP but I prefer TA, just personal preference of course they are both awesome, just love TA so much from the Pat Travers days….. RIP CP!! A true legend 🥁🥁!!
Thanks for posting..Great video.
The last great lineup of the band.
Cheers!
love songs - wonderful - you looking dammend good - great plaisir
LOVE IT!
This is the Line up Coverdale should of kept.
The real snare drum sound 😎
i prefer a bigger arena rock snare with lots of reverb
NO KA OI 🌴
MAHALO NUI...I
ALL OF THEM
ARE LEGENDS...
ENJOY EVERYONE.
ABSOLUTE LEGENDARY
On many songs there seems to be a playback keyboard track...too bad. I like John Sykes on "Thunder And Lightning" but I'm the long term I think he crushes all the bluesy feeling of the songs
There’s a keyboard player behind the curtain.
Awesome quality!
Why don’t they show the keyboard player?
Richard Bailey is a badass.
He played the Tour behind the Curtain. A huge Shame
Been doing some research on this and yes, evidence suggests it was Richard Bailey ex Magnum on keys. Apparently he was made to play behind a curtain off stage. What an insult!! He does a great job in not only filling in for John Lord but also covering the 2nd guitarist role!
Guilty of Remembering how much kindness someone has ❤️
Espetacular!!!
Probably the best line-up of Whitesnake to date..!!
I still say it's when they had Paice, Lord, Moody and Marsden. I like Sykes and Powell but they didn't quite have the synergy, and frankly I never even learned the keyboard player's name, but he sure ain't no Jon Lord.lol
@VdamMusic You know fuckall about Whitesnake
@@jecos1966 probably more than you know😂😂 I like the Steve Vai era too!
@@VdamMusic I've knowen the snakes since 82
@@jecos1966 Good for you.. I'm happy they've transformed the way they did to a more hard rock sound..
Great line-up
Glad I got to see this line up. Definitely the best Whitesnake line up of all time.
Coverdale.. Unreal

Whitesnake super muzik
Super rock !
Opened for Dio at Santa Cruz fairgrounds, Montrose All Stars started it all off..
this was after sykes was no longer in thin lizzy, in case you didn't know.
Sykes reminds me a little of EVH in that these are monsters who are so well loved by fans - admired - and young kids could learn so much but substances, whatever, maybe it's depression or something, but they hide and are almost invisible. They owe us nothing, but it would be nice if they allowed us to enjoy their gifts. But I can't imagine fame myself so I can't judge them, just wish they were having more fun
I think it’s depression in Sykes case , he left Lizzy and Phil for Whitesnake , got the old Spanish archer before the self titled came out Phil was already dead by that point Blue murder was a brilliant but unfortunate bust and his solo album never competed with with past work in terms of sales and recognition . That’d be hard to comeback from for anyone. . I struggle with it as well . Sometimes even the things you love can’t bring you happiness when its bad
Mind you he’s just put out a brand new track so he’s not completely gone 😁
@@megaduck7965 John never looked or seemed depressed to me. Pissed off and no doubt thought about doing something massive to Coverdale for being a weasel scumbag and stabbing him in the back. If his Blue Murder solo album came out 2 years earlier, and the same for the band Danger Danger they would have sold 1 million albums each and did headliner tours. Loser grunge and hip hop killed the rock music scene and it never recovered. What did you want John to do? Play small empty dive bars? He wouldn't have made a dime.
@@johnsmith-ug5tp Right you are fella 👍
The good times roll!
That snare drum sound is like a mic'd up biscuit tin.

Superb.
Thank you, great video ,I only miss the blond hair😎😂

Best!
David says they have a great future in Sykes and the rest of the band….. Too bad shortly afterwards he fired all of them…. Yes, it was a truly special lineup for 4 years….
The best WS band period!
Anyone have any idea why Slide It In would not be in this set list???
bummer that cozy went before david
Cozy Powell fucking up the tempo as usual.
And the keyboards are played by? Tapes??
Richard Bailey, but he was placed side of stage throughout his tenure with the band - reportedly because they were presenting themselves as a quartet once Lord departed and Mel Galley was then unable to play guitar following an injury earlier in the tour.
R Bailey: He played the Tour behind the Curtain. A huge Shame.
Apropos: I knew a Swiss Band in the 80s that played at a Festival. Back then I took Photos for them. At first they wanted the Keyboard Player to play behind the Curtain, but luckily they decided to change. The Keyboardist made almost half of the Sound. Today they can be proud, because the Guy soon went to America and has great success as a Producer there. The others haven't achieved much to this Day
Does anyone know why Coverdale fired all these guys mainly Sykes before the BIG 1987 Record Release . I wonder if it was for looks to get the chicks to come to the shows ? Sykes back then looked almost exactly like Vandenberg and he was definitely better looking the Vivian Campbell but Campbell and Vandenberg both Monster players in their own right . Cambell's playing on Dio's Holy Diver is Legend !! Just weird to get rid of your Guitarist who's a singer , song writer and bad-ass Guitarist. Only Vai was better but also very different ? Could have been a Page Plant thing ??
Cozzy left before the making of the record for make the P in ELP.
John lord did go reform Purple
Mel injured
David Had chord vocals infections by sinus problem ( coke .. probably )
Couldnt sing or talk in 1986 ..
Chords operation ...
He had no garantee to sing again and pay his musicians .
John tried to replace coverdale during his recovery by auditioning others guys .
Neil murray confirmed that fact .
Thats why Coverdale fired John sykes .
Ansley was only hired for the sessions ..
Sykes is good singer and incredible guitar player .
But as singer he wasnt in the same cast as David .
Word is DC fired Sykes because he was jealous. He also was a very anxious guy and I think his nerves led to tension in the studio. Sykes meant well and did the damn best but I believe DC was intimidated anyways. He had the looks, the voice, the guitar skills. Sykes could have fronted Whitesnake. But with DC broken over Deep Purple, Whitesnake was his baby. That’s all I have heard and slightly my interpretation. The worst things happen to the best bands…
metalheadoldschol John Sykes brought in another guy to practice with, I think… I wouldn’t say replace? But maybe I’m wrong..
metalheadoldschol Listen to “Out of Love” by Blue Murder. Sykes was the beast of WS.
If you have to put interview segments in don't put them during a solo, damn...

Without John, and his song writing... Whitesnake would have faded away....
That's a load of bullshit.
I knew that he was a smoker. Sad. Today, he can’t reach our soul-shaking high notes 🤷♀️🥺😞💭
