Happy birthday FFVII ! 20 years old and an absolutely timeless score from Nobuo Uematsu.
Here is my arrangement for great organ. That was a big challenge, hard to manage technically and I also tried to use as much as I can the possibilities of this wonderfull and complex organ.

A lot of people forget that the organ is slightly delayed on top of being a very demanding instrument, so you have to anticipate that you are playing the entire piece correctly with basically what is relative to lag in a video game. People who can do it, like this guy, are insanely skilled.

@@theguywithcoolpens6466 you are right, they do play instantly, but the sound comes out just slow enough to have a small delay. I may have worded this statement wrong. Then again, it also depends on the organ itself and more. But also I wouldn’t have a clue, as I have never played an actual organ, only played synth one and have watching videos on them.
Assuming the audio is synced correctly, you can see the delay in the video. Those keys aren't light either.

@@theguywithcoolpens6466 The issue is the speed of sound. Depending on the size of the building and the layout of the organ, some of it could be very far away from you. You'll get about 1ms lag for every foot separating you from the pipes.

One Winged Angel is basically the "Stairway to Heaven" of Final Fantasy Music, its reputation precedes it to the extent that it's kind of exhausted now. But it takes a true master of musical interpretation to make it fresh again, which this managed handily. It's all about knowing how to alter the dynamics/delivery to give it a sense of progress through a musical narrative. Marvelous work.

I looked this up back in ‘97 on the early internet after I beat the game. The lyrics were on a Sephiroth fan page even back then. Never forgot the words. The first music file that I ever downloaded (because I wanted to hear this track any time I wanted. Yeah novel idea) was something called an mp3. It blew me away how good quality it was. Before that it was mostly .wav files.
I'd imagine this is how Nobuo Uematsu heard it when he composed it for Midi in the 90s

Mostly because Bach's piece only has spikes of ominousness, whereas this is ominous start to finish.
There’s a less known Bach piece they used for a ballet called « the young man and the death »… it’s really something !

And even more than that, it's a whole 45min music movie of orchestral pieces to which I added the pipe organ in two live impro sessions, based on footage from various titles of the franchise. Also want to add (and I don't know if you play any instruments or not but just in case), it would be EXTREMELY helpful to gain some kind of footing in piano first. It will give you a good foundation for organ, except for the pedals. Best of luck!

That's why organs are the most genius music instruments on earth.
That's because you can imitate most of an orchestra in an organ. Narrow pipes sound like violins, violas, and cellos. Wide pipes sound like flutes. Then, you have reed pipes (they have a vibrating "reed" made of metal) that sound like clarinets, oboes, trumpets, trombones, french horns, tubas etc. For percussion you have actual percussion instruments in there that are mechanically struck when the keys are pressed. Of course, there's also the "organ tone" that you won't find anywhere else, this is made by pipes called principals or diapasons, they're wider than string pipes but narrower than flute pipes.

I have a wee little Thomas Californian electric organ, and every time you play something on a full scale pipe organ (with way way more skill than I have) it makes me so jealous, but all the more inspired!

I don’t think organists get enough credit for how much they have to be conscious of while playing. He’s controlling his feet and hands on several different levels whilst having to be conscious of technique, rhythm, dynamics, etc. Not to mention how difficult it is to make a harmonically complex piece such as this sound good. Well done, brother.

I get this image of an organ player sitting at this massive instrument during the Air raids of World War 2, sirens blaring their warning of the incoming Luftwaffe, the thundering of bombs falling in the background all while the organ player plays this epic piece of music through the raid.

I cannot believe I'm only finding this _now_ almost 3 years late. Incredible. There's really no words I can say that properly convey my emotions toward this take except that it's utterly terrifying. When it lulls into the quiet, ominous parts and then explodes with noise and feeling - there's nothing better. And the ending gave me chills.
Sephiroth, from his name to his boss battle, has always had his origins in the heavenly, but this completes the picture of the hateful almost-god he is. _This_ encapsulates the dread of such a terribly powerful force intent on destroying the world.

Teh Dreg It's definitely a great song, don't get me wrong. It's the horns in The Last Array that make me think it'd be great for organ. On second thought, it would be awesome if he did some sort of mashup with music from Destiny.
