- The Resident Evil franchise is attributed with countless innovations towards the gaming industry. The most significant of which being the genre known as 'Survival Horror', a term which was coined after the release of the first game. In this video we'll be methodically going through the first three games and analysing all of their elements to try figure out what made the games so popular at the time, and why the franchise is still held up as being so innovative and beloved.

I used to do videos about horror games myself, years ago. The writting, collecting footages, filming, recording, would take hours for a 5 minutes video.

If you were 8 years old and went from sidescrolling mario on snes to what seemed like an opening to a movie at the time it was pretty epic in 1996
It was, was 11 in 96 when resi 1 dropped. After the intro wowed me, starting the game n finding clues etc felt like was in a detective movie. FMV back then was super rare and hit hard.
Yeah it was. My grandma got me playing all of these games when I was around the age of 5. Me, her, my aunt and cousins would play through all of the new releases.

Resident evil will always have a special place, in my heart. It was the first full on horror game that I played and I absolutely LOVED it. Me and friend both pre ordered the game from a PlayStation magazine and played together, on day 1. That was about 25 yea ago and I still remember my dad pulling up, in the morning to give me game and I still remember the fun me and my friend had, playing it. I’m currently near the end of resident evil village VR and while I don’t actually think the game, itself, is incredible but the gameplay in vr, absolutely is incredible. Wasn’t interested in the flat tv version but in VR, the feeling of being there, is incredible. Especially when ya fighting a bunch of mutant zombies, turn around and 1 grabs and starts eating you.
Am I the only person that’s grown up, now but was extremely easily pleased, with all videos games? I can still remember most of the games I played and owned, as a kid and I remember loving virtually all of them. Now as an adult, I find myself not liking most games and am much harder to please.
They did re3 remake filthy, as a person who played re3 back in 99 on ps1 its my favorite in the original trilogy as is the case for many people. Thankfully with quickturns, dodges, and mercenaries it still holds up. Without door transition scenes mercenaries is basically impossible to remake faithfully but I'll never play the remake. Saw a playthrough on twitch I'm all set.

I fell in love with the original RE in 96 little 14 year old me only ever playing soul blade and alien trilogy and good old Abe,
But I'll never forget the Hunters intro.. I shat a brick and got battered the first tine
As for RE2 and Kids today won't understand how hard it was to complete RE2 in under 2 ½ hours on hard (B) mode, with a minimum of 2 saves and zero use of a med spray and no use of the machine gun lol for the Rocket launcher..
Then you have original RE3 and nemisis OMFG..he gave me nightmares for years lol and that game was well hard compared to the remake
And Let's not mention the limited space on the PlayStations memory card 😂 the amount of times I had to delete other game saves for all my RE game modes

Such an exceptional video and a massive undertaking! I greatly enjoyed your insight. I did want to point out that you felt the crates in the RE1 Remake Aqua Ring were ultimately pointless, and though I largely agree, when the water is drained you are unable to return through that area - pushing the crates into the water potentially triggers a moment of recollection that this is why your hitherto bridge is now absent.
The save room music is as liminal as ir gets and is my favorite music.

Has anyone worked out what all the background music pieces are? I recognise most of them but a couple are really bugging me and I can't work out where I recognise them from!
What made the original Resident Evil game great aside from it's storyline and gameplay was in fact it's overall cheesiness. The lousy voice acting, for example is actually gold. I mean that in the sense that it pretty much comes off as a campy B movie. Not to mention the ever classic "master of unlocking" line and the crazy cheesy "Jill sandwich." Surely it's bad, but it was funny. I mean c'mon, "Jill sandwich?" 😂. See but that was part of the charm of OG Resident Evil. Anyway, that's my 2 cents.
Open the 2nd door in the substation and grab that grenade launcher or reset if your speedrunning when ya see that magnum in the police station.

The first Resident Evil game I played was Re2 for the PS1 and I fell in love with it. I later tried RE1 on PS1 and hated it. After trying other games and then REmake, I went back and played RE1 again and now I adore it, jank and all. There really was nothing like it at the time.😊

It's funny; I hated RE back when it started. It was clunky, I hated how the combat worked, I didn't find it scary, etc. etc. I took to Silent Hill far more easily (despite it still being clunky and with bad combat). But in more recent years, it's quickly become one of my favorite franchises. It took nearly 20 years for RE to click for me, but when it did, it *really* clicked.
Battle Game was only in the Sega Saturn version, it did not appear in the Director's Cut version

You know Resident Evil series has a lot of silly tiny and huge things that makes no sense.
Like how that 1 ganado had a tranq rifle but none of the others ever did and he was never seen again, or at least not seen using it again.
Or something huge such as the Federal Bioterrorism Commission having access to a satelite (Regia SOLIS) which was basically a solar powered super weapon comparable to a nuke in its destructive potential, and they can and did use it without sparking an international incident with other countries.
And it's never mentioned how any other countries reacted to America being in possession of such a deadly weapon in the first place.
1, 3 and 2 are my favorites in the series, in that order. REmake or original, honestly.
(For those interested in being mad, the rest are ranked as follows: 5, 6, 7, Survivor, Rev 2, 4, Rev 1, CVX, 0 lol)
I completed RE3 remake on PS5. You have to complete it on Inferno with only one or no health packs & under 1 hour. That was difficult. But I've played since PS1.
Once you notice the terraria music on the background you can't focus on his voice lol

I think the fear of these games comes from the fact that you have to deal with it, and it is hard and you have to really try to survive
