Something that PAYDAY 2 doesn't communicate well is the difference between First-Aid Kits and Doctor's Bags, which is a shame because it's a *real choice* that has meaningful impact on your gameplay style.
First-Aid Kits are fast to place and fast to use, but *just* restore HP; this makes it useful for builds that rely on their health being full to survive - the Stoic Perk Deck, for example, gives up all armour in exchange for massive amounts of HP and damage reduction, so it really really appreciates being able to top its HP off so it's firing on full cylinders.
There's also a skill that automatically uses one if you're close to it when your HP would reach 0, letting you be aggressive as long as you have the foresight to prepare it beforehand. This can be really handy for Perk Decks like Hacker, where if RNG goes poorly you can die in 3 shots (on the hardest difficulty).
Meanwhile with Doctor's Bags, while they restore your HP, their primary purpose is in resetting the number of times you can go down before you instantly get arrested on going down. Usually, this happens on your 4th down, but on the 'One Down' gamemode (which was originally part of the highest difficulty, and there's still achievements for completing heists on the highest difficulty with One Down active), it happens on the 2nd.
This makes Doctor's Bags really handy for 'siege' situations. If someone's going down a lot while you're trying to hold out, they *will* end up in custody and you might not be able to survive until you can get them released. Doctor's Bags let you handle that; whenever someone's screen goes grey (signalling that they're out of 'lives'), they just need to fall back for a second to use a Doctor's Bag and they're once again able to risk going down without being taken entirely out of the fight.

There's a lot more that the game does not tell you and you have to find out through the community.
Like sicario smoke mechanics, armor gating, hp gating, weapon and enemy breakpoints, cloakers not downing you if playing solo, skills having vague descriptions, crits, damage multipliers, falloff ranges, ammo pickup, reload time, etc.

the tutorial is really basic, and leaves out so much stuff that would be good for a new player to know. so it's no wonder new players gobble up the medic bag charges, because the game doesn't really tell you how 'downs' work.

22:35 - at the beginning of the game, it was considerably more difficult to survive longer heists, therefore, more difficult to make money. And also, no one knew what offshore was going to be used for in the next updates, so people were more careful spending it... I remember doing my whole first level 0 to 100 run doing only random jobs that popped up at the appropriate difficulties... it also worked nicely with the whole "crime net" lore being like a marketplace for heists, but after a couple years it just became a vestigial structure to payday 2.
Your guess is not wrong, but i think it applies better to the positive and negative multipliers to heist experience and cash that was applied once you played the same heist with too high or low frequency

I feel you've undermined the importance of Payday 2's perk decks here. I don't think the progression of the deck matters as much as the deck as a whole (frankly that's a leftover from back when it was added and should probably be taken out imo). Perk decks essentially decide what play style you decide to run often requiring you to build your skills with consideration of that perk deck. Think of them like classes or jobs in an RPG. Your choice of perk deck can provide either passive or active buffs. For example Kingpin provides you with a Injector that lets you be a nigh invincible tank for 10 secs at a time. But at the same time you take an increased amount of aggression from enemies during it's use. Then there's Grinder or Anarchist which let you regen health and armor respectively from killing enemies. Or Crook which increases the amount of armor and dodge you get with the lighter armors. Each of them deciding whether you play Dodge, Armor, Health, Stoic, Cheating (Leech), or the numerous other roles and sub roles a deck can be. I'm simplifying a lot of it already and each of the ones I've already mentioned have various intricacies and depth in terms of synergy with high tier skills.
Another I wanna counter the statement concerning the weapon hierarchy. While yes there are worse weapons, I don't believe the hierarchy is quite as strict as you make it out to be. Like the example you gave Judge vs Goliath 12g. Yes the judge is higher damage but it has significantly worse ammo pick up and sustainability. While the Goliath and similar damage tier Grimms have lower damage but higher ammo pick up and sustain. They can also be supplemented with skills to increase mag size and damage output with crits or the Overkill skill. Another is the ammo type, Shotgun's ammo type can change a lot of how you play with them. High Explosive and Dragons Breath seem underwhelming at first under the assumption is just "kill" the enemy but they're more of a utility. HE is best as a counter for shields and Dragons breath is a sustained stun/DoT weapon for crowds. Another thing is accuracy with shotguns. For buckshot and dragons breath it's generally considered a good thing to have lower accuracy since the increased spread allows you to hit more enemies since the one hit will always deal the full damage. It's not per pellet like other games. But for Flechette And Tombstone slugs you may want more accuracy since they have higher damage range and accuracy with them. Probably going too far into a tangent here but there is s lot of consideration that goes behind which weapons you use. Some are suited as purely secondaries or utilities some are workhorses you can rely on all the time. Some synergize well with low detection/concealment crits-dodge others are better suited to the berserker-armor play style. Some times you'll bring a weapon to compensate for the weaknesses of your other weapon choice. Like a pump shotgun is great at crowd control but not so great with bulldozers or snipers so I bring the CR805 secondary to compensate for that role. Or maybe I bring a utility like a saw to speed up objectives or an HE shotgun to deal with shields. While I do think there's disparity between certain weapons (ie Amcar vs Union 556 as an example) I dont think it's so strict that there aren't certain niches with all the variety. As an example you may build towards Low Blow crits basic but you don't have enough points for Aced so your choices are limited to whatever you can keep bring that stays under 10 detection risk (or 3 if you're a stickler) so your crit chance isn't too heavily affected. There is a lot here that I don't think I can really cover.
I quite enjoyed the video and I just felt the need to be a nerd emoji as a long time player of PD2. I've always come back no matter the jank or inexplicable losing of all my years of progress or the developer's questionable business choices. It's just that fun for me.
On the topic of difficulty, I think the progression of difficulties has been nicely balanced with the introduction of Mayhem. As Overkill has long been considered the real "Normal" difficulty by the community. Mayhem bridges the gap between Overkill and Deathwish nicely by having Deathwish health enemies but Overkill damage values. Death Sentence though is just kinda bad. It's almost an entirely different game from the lower difficulties and often requiring a much more intimate knowledge of the mechanics and how to abuse them. It's gotten better than from when it launched but it's not really what I'd call an enjoyable experience. This is only with loud though, difficulty doesn't matter with stealth gameplay beyond minor differences in guard numbers or what kind of camera/safe will spawn or how much reward you receive from completion.

I can say Death Sentence can be enjoyable.
I consider it more like dark souls where, it's unforgiving, but it isn't unfair... most of the time.
Like often the issues people face tend to be counterable like not rushing or killing enough. Though it is understandable, players have to be self taught how to use cover and peek out of it and where it even is.
Though once you wrap your head around everything, you can basically use anything on dsod. Like even Yakuza suit, two saws, etc are all possible on dsod and they aren't that bad to do if you know how. Like Yakuza suit can use 2 Jokers and Aced Hostage Taker and you can kite the swats and use throwing knives with 2 saws.

@@StaminaLoss I won't deny that people can find enjoyment out of it but frankly I just don't think it's for me just like Dark Souls wasn't for me. And unlike Dark Souls, This be Payday 2. Which is as much as I like it, an unpolished unbalanced mess and not really the type of game I feel most players myself included really wanna dedicate a ton of hours grinding to get really good at. And I don't particularly find it fun meta abusing either so that's also not a path I'm willing to go.
PD2's just a game I tune up whenever I feel like it and play for a few hours in pubs. And that's all I want it to be.

@@plushiepenguin Well understandably not everyone getting to the point of always playing dsod.
But the main reason I responded was that it isn't impossible and everything is viable.
Like especially on dsod. Not always using meta. It gets boring and the beauty is that, even the worst can be used well or at least have a niche/fun use.
Eg the minigun is considered terrible, but if you learn how to conceal it for crits. It is super fun.
Maybe you can use a build with a Grenade Launcher and a Rocket Launcher. It is super good and fun. And something like Infiltraitor can be good to use on it since the extra melee can kill Bulldozers and give more health.
All viable on dsod and it isn't that bad once you understand how to play. Sure there are some awful balance changes like Shotguns and Damage range fall off. But overall, even shotguns can be used well

@@StaminaLoss I'm not saying it isn't possible though. I've seen it be done with the worst loadouts. Nothing in this game is unviable if you make it work.

    1) 2:59 to clarify, hoxton wasn't called hoxton back then. He was called Houston. Throughout the events of the second game, he got arrested and so the gang had to replace him with a new Houston who was a relative of Dallas. Afterwards when the Dentist had the contract ready for them, they broke out now Hoxton from the prison and he had to change both his mask and his name, the hoxton name comes from the district he was arrested in as you can see from payday trivia in the second game.
    2) The doctor bag and the first aid kit might seem similar at first but while the first aid kit only renews your health, the doctor bag renews the amount of times that you can be downed hence I advise you to use medic bags unless you are playing with a health focused perk deck.
    3) Quite the opposite, you become harder to detect by guards and cameras with your concealement stat being higher your concealement stat and your concealement are two different things, you can see your concealement stat on the chart to the left on your inventory screen and also on your weapon's stats page. Your concealement changes between 3 and 75 accordingly with your concealement stat.
    4) Tips for you, the judge shotgun is very good on stealth as it has very high damage and can launch victims away from guards' and cameras' sight, however in loud it is mostly ineffective due to it having a very low ammo count. But it is an effective secondary because of it having access to HE rounds, it is used in loud builds primarily to take out shields. You can also use the 5/7 pistol to take them out as it's rounds go through shields. As primary if you are going to use the lmg regardless; you should use the bipod, you can activate/deactivate it by pressing 4 while nearby a surface where you can put it down, the reason Im suggesting it is because it pretty much gives you 100 accuracy which is a stat looked after while using an lmg. If you are open to suggestions, you can use the lion's roar assault rifle with its very high damage and stability.

27:45 Decks do affect the gameplay a lot, you won't be able to do the same thing leech does with gambler for example.
Leech cuts your health into chunks for a bit, makes you unable to go down for the duration of the leech ampule effect and makes you able to regain health by killing enemies.
Gambler gives you health whenever you get armor with a lengthy cooldown and gives a bit of ammo to your teammates as well.
Since gambler only gives you some slight regeneration and no invulnerability, someone playing gambler would have to play much slower and carefully than someone playing leech (Ik it's an extreme comparison since gambler is one if not the worst deck while leech is probably the best too).
Using decks without leveling them up, is not a very good idea, mostly because what really changes the playstyle is the level of the deck, a level 1 sociopath is gonna play very similarly to a level 1 crew chief, but they change up everything at higher levels, one focusing on killing to survive, and the other focusing more on team play.
Even if some of the level up buffs are the same across all decks, they still change your playstyle a lot. But at the end of the day, at it's core you shoot guys and that's about it.
Also 36:10 explosive ammo does very little damage because it can't headshot, it's usually more for utility, aka killing shields and breaking bulldozer's visor, but the goliath is pretty solid.
One last thing, personally I feel the only real broken difficulty spike is deathwish to death sentence, I started off even dying in normal, but with experience I slowly climbed the ladder, tho DS changes a lot since almost all enemies 3 shot you.

You really have to play with the perk decks more.
They don't just do the same, there is some similarities yes, but you are missing the point by just saying that.
First of, you always play with the perks maxed out. You invest a lot of time into payday and you'll definitely gain a lot of xp to put into all the decks. It just becomes irrelevant when you say any statement about perks when really the next card could make it op.
Second, the playstyles and niches offered are everywhere.
Let's take Armourer and Sociopath. Both increase armour, but Armourer can regen armour faster and give you 2 seconds of invincibility. Sociopath can regen health from melee, regen armour from killing, have better melee damage and has a semi reliable flashbang effect in the form of Panic.
Armourer is one of the best perks in the game since you can abuse the 2 seconds to rush objectives or guarantee you kill/get into cover.
But Sociopath can still holds it own since the extra armour gained can be used to be more aggressive and guarantee yourself more time to kill. The melee aspect is also really good against bulldozers which is an underrated aspect that people often die to. And the Panic is so good for you and your team to just not got shot as much
Even in terms of builds. While you always want ICTV with Armourer and both can use Aced Hostage Taker or Berserker. Sociopath can take a few different routes. You can use the Light Ballistic vest to tank light swats on dsod. You can get crits and have decent protection as is and the armour gained from killing can really help with your survival. Sociopath is also a special deck that can reach 3 heavy shots on dsod. Something Armourer can technically do, albeit in a very impractical set up. Sociopath can do so by using Frenzy Aced, ICTV and Underdog aced which isn't that bad to get and the 3 shots can be noticeable on close quarters heists. And on top of this you can use Aced Bullseye to tank even light hits and still have all the damage you need from Berserker aced.
And this is only one example. There's even things like Ex President, Stoic, Sicario, etc that have multiple fun and quirky ways to use them. All having niche uses that you or someone else may want.
Even other perks like Muscle have some fun quirks too. Like you never Basic Hostage Taker on every other perk because Aced is much faster. But with Muscle it is an exception since the regen it has on the 9th card basically makes it a cheaper Aced Hostage Taker. And even if you do Ace it, it is much faster anyway and is super good as well. And some masochistic people even rely solely on the 3% which is an option if you really want to be patient and save points.
Really it's what kept the game fresh for so long aside from making weapons work like a crit minigun or an explosive crossbow work well. Some are often better eg Leech can brute force any dsod heist, Stoic makes you super tanky on dsod, Hackers stun is so spamable and broken, etc.
But often you can have a personal favourite like my favourite is Ex President since there are a lot of ways to use it and the armour + health regen is fun to abuse. But my friend loves Gambler because despite being one of the weakest perks, he still appreciates the support and health regen given, even though he himself acknowledges other perks are better.
So Hybrid decks can work even on Death Sentnece. Not recommended since you can just have an easier time if you have a specific deck for that difficulty
In terms of the circle, it's why saws, c4's, etc are considered valuable. You sacrifice skills, weapons, deployables, etc to make it faster. It gives that depth of "I may be weaker against bulldozers, but I could rely on my team more so we can complete the heist faster"
So, in terms of difficulty. For death sentence, where it seems almost the same of red light green light sort of peeking, an important skill is basic Bullseye. Get a headshot and you can either abuse the armour to get to safety or give yourself an extra second to kill whatsbin front of you. This is the single most important skill as while it is much easier said than done to react, it really empahsises good gameplay and gives you options. It's also why Sociopath and Anarchist is great as it can constantly gate the damage from regenerating armour constantly. Really any other deck like health and dodge, you always want to take it to either save your health or keep rolling the dice and hive yourself more chances to not die. The only exception is Stoic, which can't have armour, but is broken with the amount youcan tank on dsod.
Ammo isn't that bad honestly. The lmgs are the easiest to stay ammo positive, but often there are things you are doing wrong other than needing damage that makes you lose ammo more.
Like you are killing enemies too far away, where you can't pick up their ammo. You are spraying too much and need to tap fire are common ways people lose ammo to name a few.
The price of weapons are pretty irelevant. Cheap weapons tend to also be op like the Union rifle or the Akimbo Mark 10s. The expensive weapons are still nice, though really comes down to preference
So for the hierarchy. It's why Niches/sidegrades exist. There is usually a purpose to most weapons and i'll try to explain some examples.
Take assault rifles. The best is the Lion's roar universally having everything, but maybe you want concealment to fit a grenade launcher. The Valkyria can do so and have really good fire rate, but the Car 4 can be concealed further and have more customisation, but has a slower fire rate. Maybe you want a gun with more fire rate, the Clarion can do so, but has a bit less damage. The Union and Ak5 can also be really good side grades as they both have speedpull mags. So maybe you can prefer speedpull mags over investing in Aced Lock n' load.
That's just one example, insert the benefits of lmgs, snipers, etc
Even in terms of the secondary shotguns, niches exist.
The Goliath is decent as a regular buck shotgun.
The Street Sweeper is nice as a "Panic" shotgun where with the DB or TS rounds, you can quickly spray and kill faster than the judge/Grimm, The Claire/GSPS can be used to trigger overkill aced, etc.
Sure you can have a preference in weapons like lmgs are still the easiest to use, but lose out to dps, accuracy, etc. But the hierarchy doesn't matter as much as it initially seems.
So fun fact: The ai is actually a lot more valuable in Death Sentence. Mainly in that they are consistent and tanky. It's pretty relevant as they take a lot of heat away from you and can take a lot of punishment. Even for revives, you can just ignore other people and (semi) rely on the ai's tankiness for them to revive.
That and often you find that players die often on Death Sentence. You would prefer an ai if given the choice between new players and Ai. Though yes, good players are much more perferred than ai's.

at the end you talk about the AI. The fact you can custom your AI make them a great assets. You can give them boost wich make you interact with thing up to 75% faster, heal you or just make you harder to kill. And they never run out of ammo. In lots of case, these AI are better then player in some mission.

Fun fact, there used to be an ultimate edition of payday 2 and the promise from the developer to make no further DLCs for the game.
    Guess how that turned out...
Can't really say I'm looking forward to Payday 3

    • @PTL2000
      @PTL2000 Год назад +14

The reason more DLC for Payday 2 came out is because the devs almost went bankrupt and needed to make money somehow, and their more recent games (like Raid or Overkill’s Walking Dead) weren’t well received due to their low quality; yeah it sucks they started doing more paid DLC but if it means they get back on their feet and do better by Payday 3 then it’s a necessity

Honestly, base game Payday 2 is overrated, because it's a really trigger happy and unbalanced game. Armor is almost completely unviable, because Dodge, that's literally RNG, is just a better option. In my opinion Stealth is also quite lackluster, as playing on Mayhem and Death Sentence changes nothing.
I really recommend Restoration Mod overhaul, which makes the game balanced and good again, at least in my opinion.

Well he kinda said all the basics, but there were a few hickups for 'seasoned' players (myself included) like perkdeks, weapons in terms of working side by side with skills, idea of dodge, no mention of infamy, no word about continental coins (that are a crucial counter to argument agaist attachments). Still, I think it is a good video and does pretty good job at showcasing the game

@@SzymonTopol I haven't played PayDay2 in several years, I left when Dodge builds were at their peak, a few months after they first got discovered as being effective, I'm curious is it still objectively the best way to play the game, or at least drastically better? Also, what the hell is a continental coin lol

    • @SzymonTopol
      @SzymonTopol Год назад +1

@@jamesbailey6257 well to summarize doge is not as meta as it once was we now have stuff like hacker, stoic or leech. Inspire ACE is falling out of favor. And about continental coins - you get them by playing the game or complete side quests - now if you do not have certain mod for a gun, you can puchase it for 6 continental coins. The biggest change I'd say came in the heists - they are now far less linear and do not higlight objectives at first (so either you have to search for them or wait)
