It always makes me happy to see when younger people are loving this movie too. It tells me that this movie was always something special.
You really needed someone to tell you that?
@@CalciumChief And you really needed say something like that?
"He's cutting hisself like a . . . birthday cake!"
I can honestly say I've never heard anyone have _that_ reaction before! 🍰😝🍰
As a 90's kid it was considered weird not being in the phonebook lol
They still send me a new phone book every two years. I don't know why everyone is saying how weird it was 300 years ago when people were in phone books. 🤷♂️
@@jonalberts980 Not all countries/governments gave funding for every household to receive free phone books or for every person with a phone number to be included in the book - unless otherwise requested not to be included.
For some countries it was probably a luxury item.
I believe these ladies are from Romania, so I don't think it was as common for them as it was for us.
@@L3onOfKings They're from Bulgaria, but not just these ladies. I have heard maybe thirty people in the past couple of years say that it was crazy when you could just look up someone's information in a phone book, and I'm pretty sure phone books are still as much a thing as they ever were if you still have a landline. That's what's changed. Only about 1/3 of people have a landline anymore.
@@jonalberts980 Ahh yeah, that's right, Bulgaria.
I guess I've heard other people say it too in the Terminator reactions I've seen.
We're just showing our age I suppose.
For me, I'm 46, so my non-understanding of a previous telephone era was in regards to switchboard operators, I never had to deal with that side of telephone technology, so for me it's strange to think about.
Ah yes. But the real cool people had an unlisted number. We peons thought that was really rude. How would ever prank call you?
You find strange that people let their phone numbers in the phone book, but totally normal that they put their numbers, address, photos, all their private life on Facebook 🤔
Actually by default your name address and number were automatically in a phone book unless you requested it not to be
"I came across time for you." That's one hell of a pickup line, when you can prove it! 😁
In the 80s we were still in the Cold War era, and the threat of a nuclear war was present on a daily basis. For example in 1986 there were 2 major incidents, an US air bombing raid on Lybia, and the Chernobyl accident on the nuclear power plant. I still remember people wearing "I Survived Chernobyl" t-shirts.
Unlike now, when Nuclear Winter is at least two or three military actions away.
40 years ago was two years before The Terminator opened. It topped the box office for two weeks in October 1984. It was released on VHS the following year and soon became one of the top video cassette rentals in the United States. That's when I first saw it. I was in high school and watched it with friends at a party that year. It really scared the girls. That scene towards the end when the skeletal terminator emerges from the fire made them shriek. The figure suddenly sitting up in the debris is straight outta Dracula. Most everybody back then took the film as a horrific science fiction action thriller. Dig those explosions!
Here’s a correction. The Termintor came out in 1984. Aliens came out in 1986 from the same director James Cameron.
Michael Biehn doesn't get credited enough for his acting, he kicked in two fundamental movies of that era, Terminator & Aliens
It came out in 1984, not 1986.
As far as flying cars go, I am somewhat grateful that people are not flying around in three dimensions when people have a difficult enough time driving on 2 dimensions.
42:47 "Go get a screwdriver, open his parts and sell them on the black market." A fairly perfect description of Terminator 2!
Except that was the opposite of the black market... government sanctioned, well-funded research projects.
As a child, I had very high hopes for the future. 😆 You can imagine the overall disappointment. 😆
James Cameron is blessed with a vision and he has the ability to get exactly what he wants in his films. And if the technology isn't available to get that, he will wait until the time is right, hence why it took so long for there to be a sequel to Avatar. As a matter of fact, what he wanted in The Terminator wasn't technologically available, so instead of what a T-1000 is made of he went with a metal endoskeleton as a Terminator for the first film.
Reese - runs around in a homeless guy’s pants for hours.
Sarah - “Let me get some of that.”
Yeah, those must have smelled just wonderful.
This was so fun to watch you two enjoy such a classic. I can't wait to see you lovely ladies react to Terminator 2: Judgement Day next
They already did T2 several months back. Even this film is its second viewing - ruclips.net/video/sXEn4ni6N0g/видео.html Same channel, different sisters maybe but still the 2nd reaction. What a con! :(
A must

at the end of Ellie's March 2021 reaction to The Terminator she actually says "I'll be back."
So good. You are going to absolutely LOVE the part 2 of Terminator.
Yep. 2 was entertaining, not a patch on this one though.............
42:20: "Please don't stand in the fire." I haven't heard that since I used to play World of Warcraft lol
Villain roles for Arnold are very rare, but you called it right. Ironically, it was this villain role that made him into a huge star, even though he plays the hero in almost every movie. I can think of only two villains he has ever played: the Terminator and Mr. Freeze in _Batman & Robin_ .
10:40 Behind Sarah is the director of the film James Cameron
13:25 The dog is dreaming like: "Ruff ruff, Ellie snuggles are the best." lol
The first *Blade Runner* movie is set in 2019. It's a superb movie!
Averted possible futures... always interesting.
I was almost Linda’s age when this came out and worked at a Friendly’s restaurant. I thought it was awesome to see a female character play a role like this and then see her in T2 and the last one (even though most people didn’t like it).
So, Laura, I hope you're all prepared and will help lead us into the apocalyptic future. Dear Patrons, be sure to tip her EXTRA EXTRA so she can help save the world.
I had no idea what a Friendly's WAS until I move to Pennsylvania...they're not a Colorado "thing."
I'm a dude, and I thought Linda was awesome. I don't know of any dudes that didn't absolutely think Linda / Sarah was awesome.
@@ex-navyspook sadly, many are out of business here in Connection now. I loved their butter crunch ice cream.
@@laurakali6522 Mmm...butter crunch...
I have some great recommend for you guys, "Coralin" and "Apolla 13" with Tom Hanks which is a true and amazing story, "Cast Away" with Tom Hanks, "What's Eating Gilbert Grape" with Leonardo DiCaprio and John Deep: both were really young. In this movie Leonardo is a teenager.
Terminator knock on woman’s door: “Sarah Conner? It’s GUN to meet you.”
T2 is a GREAT sequel. Nice reaction. About time Michelle saw this franchise
James Cameron is good with sci-fi stories. Can’t wait to see Avatar 2
Yeah he is a master of his craft but i have no interest in Avatar 2, i think the first Avatar worked so well as it had this incredible contrast between Human world and fantasy world but without the human element in the sequel it just likes a video game i cant play...
@@garydodd2837 I completely understand and respect that
Avatar 2 would be a blast
I hear Avatar 2 will be quite woke and preachy. About climate etc. Think I will give it a pass personally but will wait and see what people think. T1 is on of my fav movies and Cameron I will always be interested in what he makes.
Ladies
I watched a clip of Arnold when he was promoting Terminator on Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. Johnny Carson was host of late night that he can make or break careers. Fact is that Arnold is a prankster on sets. Arnold told a story when Terminator was still filming. Arnold just gotten done in makeup for that night's shooting schedule. He described how his face made up with rotting flesh and metal prosthetics. Arnold drove to the location. As he is driving, Arnold stopped by a local restaurant for pick up for food. Imagine this scene, Arnold walked in, customers scattered away from the restaurant, and clerk was scared......lol
Lol 😆 at the end when the torso is chasing sarah i can still hear ellies
"Omg hes still alive, rruuun" great reaction you 2
The club wasn't real...just a built scene in an abandoned building, but people kept lining up to get in!!
The other male costar, Michael Biehn, was in Cameron's the Abyss, and Cameron's, Aliens!!
Writer/Director/Producer James Cameron is the genius behind some of my favorite movies ever made. The TERMINATOR series of movies and a tv show, THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES are all awesome. He likes to use his favorite actors over again, so when you watch his movies, look for familiar faces. In this movie, actors Michael Biehn (Kyle Reese), Lance Henriksen (Lt. Vukovich) and Bill Paxton (the punk in the beginning) were all in ALIENS, the second in another awesome series of movies, where we also meet Jenette Goldstien (Vasquez) who appears with Paxton in James Cameron's TITANNIC and was in TERMINATOR 2. Henriksen, Paxton, and Goldstein were in an early Cameron vampire flick together, called NEAR DARK. Michael Biehn was also in an often overlooked Cameron classic, and in my opinion, one of the best films ever made, THE ABYSS-Director Cut (it must be the directors cut). Cameron pioneered the cgi to make digital water look real and went through great lengths to film it. The cast and crew had to get scuba certified as they were working underwater in an unfinished nuclear cooling tower for days at a time. This is where Cameron fell in love with the deep sea, leading to ground breaking research about the sinking of THE TITANNIC and has actually visited the actual wreck several times, and gaining a license to drive mini subs. The futuristic locations, machines, robots, space craft, etc. mostly come from his imagination. A perfect example is James Cameron's AVATAR, the most visually stunning movies I have ever seen. James Cameron is a creative genius who's name deserves to be up the with Steven Spielberg and George Lucas.
Look at IMDB.com for his resume and any other actor, movie, tv show you want to look up. It is the best site for info.
One of the best films in history 🎉
I always like that jacket he wore in this movie.the grey one.
Sometimes giving away the plot of the movie kills the movie quick.but it worked here, you start rooting for her to survive.
Jim Cameron originally wanted dick Smith, make up artist on"the exorcist"for"terminator".but Smith recommended Stan Winston.
Deleted scene,:Sarah is put into the ambulance, camera pans up on a sign that reads"cyber dyne systems".
Yup
Michelle, when you mentioned your nightmare, that's how James Cameron came up with this movie. He had nightmares while working on an another movie and one of them was about a robot that came back from the future to kill him.
Well i just have to say that if Mich liked this one, she won't be disapointed by the second :)
Terminator rips out thugs heart: “You’ll have to excuse me. I’m HEART of hearing.”
HE'S CUTTING HIMSELF LIKE A BIRTHDAY CAKE!
Demolition Man is another great futuristic movie, that starts in 1996 and then goes to the future in 2032.
It has Sylvester Stallone, Wesley Snipes and Sandra Bullock.
The Terminator is possibly the greatest "B-movie" ever made. By that i mean, it is the greatest low-budget sci-fi ever produced. The Terminator is a great inspiration for future filmmakers. Cameron showed us what can be possible on a small budget and its freaking amazing.
T2 on the other hand is the greatest action movie ever made. Cameron showed us whats possible once youve established yourself in the industry. And its freaking phenomenal.
I just wish we could get a new 5.1 remix for The Terminator. The .45 longslide should sound like a freaking cannon. The audience should be just as shocked and stunned by that weapon as the 35 year old Sarah Connors neighbors after the Terminator blew her head off. Theres an interesting deleted scene revealing the aftermath where Sarah Connors neighbors are running around in complete panic mode. But the newest 5.1 remix makes all of these bad**s weapons sound like squeaky toys, including the shotguns. You cant feel anything from a sound effect like that.
This is a classic movie ladies
The late 1980's and early 1990's was a period of rapid change in special effects technology. James Cameron was a pioneer in the use of new FX techniques and technology, while at the same time also using traditional techniques like practical effects and miniatures when the new tech didn't add anything to the quality. You should watch Cameron's films in order to see the FX progression: After "Terminator", Cameron did "Aliens" (1986) , then "The Abyss" (1989), then "Terminator 2" (1991), then "True Lies" (1994).
"The Abyss" was the first film to have CGI graphics, transitions from CGI to physical effects, and a CGI face. "T2" was a major leap in CGI and the first time a particular, now common, effect was seen by the general public, and for many people is still associated with T2 (I'm being vague here to avoid any spoilers, but you'll recognize what i am talking about when you see it). In all of his films, Cameron mixes various effects methods, from practical effects, to miniatures, to matte compositing, and switches between them in the same scene to get the best combinations. He uses both low-light film techniques and day-for-night.
26:22: “I’ll be back.” 😎
Ladies, you’ll see Reese again in *Aliens*
Is amazing how far James Cameron has gotten without going to film school
There are 1000s of men and women who went to film school and never made it.
The only thing they teach you in film school is how to be a more aggressive pedo
Paul Thomas Anderson, Tarantino etc.
James Cameron is a prodigy.
I love you girls, greetings from Mexico. I can't wait for Terminator 2
That laser sight is so outdated, though. Nowadays, if you want one of those, it can be mounted in a small unit under the barrel along with a powerful flashlight, and modern pistols hold about twice as many rounds. In 1984, these were a rather new thing, of course, and seemed very futuristic.
For Terminator 2, there is a difference between the "Special Edition Extended Version", which has restored deleted scenes which help the story, and the "Ultimate Edition Extended Version" that has the deleted scenes plus an alternate ending. I recommend the Special Edition Extended Version with the original ending rather than the Ultimate Edition alternate ending.
After watching T2, I would recommend skipping T3, 4, & 5, and go straight to "Terminator Dark Fate". Both James Cameron and Linda Hamilton returned to do "Dark Fate" (neither was involved in T3, 4, or 5). "Dark Fate ignores T3, 4, and 5 and picks up right after the original ending of T2.
Back in the mid 80s, I wanted to see The Terminator at the cinema but my father forbid me. I was a teenager at the time. He thought it was too violent (cos it was about someone going around killing people.) However, at the same time, he had no issue with me watching movies like An American Werewolf In London, Mad Max, Mad 2, Alien, The Exorcist etc on TV. So I don't know why seeing a violent movie at the cinema makes any difference. And it was the only movie that he forbid me from seeing at the cinema. Some time later, he watched The Terminator himself on TV and seemed to appreciate it. I'm still puzzled as to why he wouldn't let me see it on the big screen. Years later (in the early 90s) I did see T2 on the big screen.
Its funny because many people remember Arnold saying "I'll bi Bach" not "I'll be back." Some believe its the Mandela Effect and we are living in al alternate universe. I remember the version with the thick accent.
Fun fact: Arnold agreed to do the film thinking that, since the budget was so small (6.4 mil) if the film tanked, it wouldn't hurt his career.
Fun Fact:. Arnold didn't have a movie career before this movie. This is wha MADE Arnold a movie star. It was the movie producers taking a chance on a C-list celebrity.
Before this movie, Arnold did game shows and talk shows, cameos and guest spots on TV shows. And that crappy "Hercules in NY" foreign movie. Then he was in the documentary "Pumping Iron" and his popularity increased. He got to play Conan because of the muscles. But when this came out people were like "What? Arnold in a real movie?". Like when Cher costared in Silkwood.
I remember telling my friends at the time "ok, so he was able to play a robot or Conan, but how many roles can they find for this huge guy and his thick accent?"
@@FloridaMugwump I'm going by what the man, himself, said in interviews.
@@misterprickly Yeah, maybe he was worried that playing a robot would affect his ability to get CONAN roles, lol. Or a cameo on the San Pedro Beach Bums (my favorite show at the time)
great review!, this first terminator is very good but not nearly as good as terminator 2!, and terminator 3 has a female terminator and is just as good as Terminator 2. these are MUST watch movies. the effects in T2 and T3 will blow your mind.
I would personnaly rank them 1-3-2.
I always thought that T2 was vastly overrated. It's not original since it's the exact same scenario as T1 and I don't find the characters that much likable.
@@Stephen64138 LOL no
And we could tell by ellie's face when she could see the terminator's willie.
"I don't know how he can find him so easily" -- he was in a police car and the dispatch put the info on them out on the radio. You may've been talking over it.
Yeah i always think people in the 70's and early 80's thought we would have flying cars and holiday trips on the moon by now, technlogy moves fast but not that fast..
this director does the Alien sequel and uses a few of the people in this movie including Kyle Reese - Sarah's protector
Ladies, if you’re amazed at how we envisioned the world of 2029 back in 1984, you should watch the Final Cut of Blade Runner (1982).
Dude standing at phone booth when she was looking in phone was a creep. He was totally looking at her like hey baby let's rock. This movie put Gargoyle sunglasses on the map.
Hey ladies ... love the reaction. Just thought I'd mention something to think about ... No one thought that the world would be like this 40 or even 50 years into the future, but they had to use "SOME" number, AND also resolve the act of transporting back far enough in time to where Sarah would still be the appropriate age to have been John Connor's mother. So yeah, it may have been better to put in a couple hundred years in the future, or more, so the futuristic landscape and technology would be possible, but then, John Connor would probably be a more of a great-great-grandson than her son.
It may have still worked to kill Sarah to prevent the bloodline from moving any further forward, but c'mon ... it's a movie. Sometimes, you just have to be able to "suspend your disbelief" sometimes, and pretend that, in that world, those things are possible.
*** SPOILERS AHEAD ***

...
So, two paradoxes happened in this movie that lead to future movies:
1.) If Kyle Reese doesn't go back to the past to meet Sarah Connor, John Connor is never born. Since Kyle Reese never went back to the past before he was sent by John Connor, there is no previous cause for John Connor to be there in the future.
2.) The Terminator, Cyberdyne Systems 101, is crushed inside a factory in the past. The owner of the factory? Cyberdyne Systems. The Terminators of the future are reverse engineered from this Terminator. Like John Connor, there is no previous cause for this Terminator to have actually been there in the future.
Classic 80's/Arnold
I was 9 in 84 and convinced my Dad to take me to see this, probably a bit young but I loved it so much.
Arnold Schwarzenegger disclosed that the film had a very small budget and the cast used to perform stunts without permits/permission to film in certain locations.
Michelle needs to watch T2 now. Ellie knows it's very good.
I saw it at 9 as well but at home on VHS
your puppies like watching tv with their moms. awwwwww
“Terminator 2” is one of the best sequels ever made. Outstanding! Linda Hamilton is magnificent in it.
In my opinion, the following sequels are junk. They’re not worth anyone’s time. The Terminator should have ended with 2.
Man part 2 is so good as well!
Hey guys, luv the channel, still my favourite film of all time, even though its ancient..still think its the only live action film to get 100% Critics ratings on Americas Rottentomatoes site..Masterpiece, sequel is also incredible..
Remember when this movie was released in 1984 it was just 15 yrs earlier on July 20, 1969 Apollo 11 landed the first men on the moon so people thought by 2020's things would be a lot more futuristic than it's turned out to be. Most people then thought we would have colonized Mars and even certain Asteroid Belt object between Mars and Jupiter, so flying cars would have been easy to accomplish by the 2010's.
Er, we're not at 2029 yet, it could still very well look like that for all you know.
Ellie looks good in glasses
I’m surprised Ellie didn’t get as emotional as she usually does
She saw it already.
Ellie must be on meds. She used to get extremely angry, and super emotional, even if it was her third time reacting to a movie. Now she's...normal. I respect if she had to address mental health, but I miss the 2021 Ellie.
@@matt_canon - Booze, drugs and a nocturnal party animal lifestyle take their toll eventually. She's looking 10 years older than she actually is.
Actually, the nuclear war mentioned in this movie would be on August 29, 1997, also known as Judgment Day. 2029 was when Reese was fighting against the machines as an adult soldier in his flashbacks (or rather flash-forwards?). The current year in the movie was 1984, the same year the movie was released in real life.
1997 has come and gone, but we could still always be annihilated in a nuclear war in our future. That nut who rules Russia today has been threatening it since this February or March, since the people of Ukraine refuse to submit to his rule, and other countries keep helping them. Is he serious or is he bluffing? If he is not bluffing and Russia keeps losing this war that he started, then possibly we are all doomed. Hopefully if he gives the order to attack other countries with nuclear weapons, his subordinates will ignore the order. They have done this before, in the early 1980s, which saved all of our lives. There was a software bug in their radar systems that falsely indicated a massive nuclear attack on the USSR, so an all-out counterattack was ordered, but the guy in charge of nuclear weapons in the USSR could not believe that the Americans would attack like this, because it would mean our own destruction, as well, so he did not fire the Soviet nuclear weapons. If he had obeyed orders instead, then human civilization would have ended at that time, 40 years ago. But now a madman and fascist rules Russia with an iron hand, and he is growing more desperate every day.
Science fiction is not so much about predicting the future but speculating on what will happen if we keep doing what we're doing now. This film was made during a time when we started relying more and more on technology -- machines-- and we were increasingly weaponizing the technology. The year is less significant than the "what if this goes on" question.

My girl and I saw saw this opening day in 84....we both loved yet the 2 giant plot hokes bothered us before we left the theater. Why didnt the cops not go to Sarahs apt as soon as they thought she was in danger and then why did the unstoppable killing machine leave the scene after the car wreck instead of just taking everyone out?
I always thought a third hole was how the corporation got the Terminator parts in the factory instead of the police . . .
