      I still say Cameron copped that from "Somewhere in Time", which was released just a couple of years before he started working on Terminator. The motif is just too specific for it to be a coincidence, especially given that it hadn't been used in a movie before.

    "I didn't expect that he will be the bad guy."
    The writer did originally put Arnold in the role of the good guy, but when Arnold read the script, he begged to be moved to the role of the terminator instead. And it was a great decision for him, as it was really the start his acting career.

    • @markhamstra1083

      Nonsense. Arnold’s first acting job was 14 years before this movie, and this was his third starring role in a Hollywood feature film.

    • @markhamstra1083

      @@tubekulose Precisely. The box office for Conan the Barbarian in the US and Canada was almost exactly the same as for the first Terminator film, and that first Conan film was two years earlier. Neither of those films was all that big or important, and it is only in hindsight after the huge Terminator 2 that the first Terminator is particularly significant. In any event, Arnold had been pursuing acting for quite a while without huge box office success by the time he got the Terminator role.

    Fun fact: Arnold Schwarzenegger originally auditioned for the role of Reese, but when director James Cameron met him, James, who is blessed with a vision of cinematic perfection, chose him to be The Terminator because he saw Arnold as an unstoppable force just like what The Terminator should be.

    True Story: James Cameron who wrote and directed this masterpiece only did one other movie before this called Piranha 2, and one night while he was filming it he got really sick had a fever dream. And in that dream (or rather nightmare) he saw a chrome covered skeleton crawling out of flames slowly walking towards him to kill him. When his fever broke he immediately wrote down the idea and from that idea came The Terminator.
    In 2008, The Terminator was selected by the United States Library of Congress for preservation in the National Film Registry as "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant".

    • @EndTimeDreams
      @EndTimeDreams 2 года назад +4

      The irony is James Cameron ripped off himself. Terminator was a rip off of his own work from 1964 called soldier that he ripped off from someone else's work from 1957 called soldier from tomorrow

    • @seraiharper5553
      @seraiharper5553 2 года назад +6

      LOL, that's what he says NOW. But the year it came out, Cameron did an interview where he described being sick in bed and _watching old Outer Limits episodes._ BIG mistake. When Harlan Ellison heard that, he called his shark lawyer and they went to town. Never, ever, EVER admit to copping someone else's ideas.😂

    Lot of people in the comments already saying this was Arnold's breakout acting role, as if a movie from 2 years before called Conan the Barbarian wasn't Arnold's first big role
    It's more accurately director James Cameron's breakout movie. He based the script on a vision he had of a man rising out of a bonfire. The budget wasn't that big because he was a rookie director, but this movie's profitability gave studios a reason to give James Cameron larger budgets for his next movies The Abyss and Terminator 2

    • @seraiharper5553
      @seraiharper5553 2 года назад +4

      Arnold himself considers this his breakout role because, as he put it, he didn't have to run around with nothing on (other than that intro, of course). That made it a serious performance for him, the first one where his muscles weren't what was selling the character.

    Instead of 'slow motion', I think the phrase you're looking for is 'stop motion', where they move a miniature or model slightly, take a single frame shot, move it some more, photo that one, move it some more, etc., rinse and repeat. It does produce that cheesy jerking effect, which kinda killed the reality in these shots. But hey, it was 1984, pre-CGI days.

    • @cs-zz7jd
      @cs-zz7jd 2 года назад

      Too bad James didn't get the animator who did the stop-motion for the dragon in the 1981 movie Dragon Slayer. In my opinion, it the had the most "fluid" and "realistic" stop motion animation at the time. Even when I first saw it as a kid, I was so blown away that I thought it was real. lol.

    • @Psilocybin77
      @Psilocybin77 2 года назад

      @@cs-zz7jd Phil Tippet did Dragonslayer, he is a legend in the industry. He worked on the Star Wars films and designed animation processes for Jurassic Park. However, Stan Winston and his crew were responsible for the effects in The Terminator. You know Stan Winston of The Predator, Aliens, and again Jurassic Park? No slouch either. The Terminator had almost ZERO budget so it's actually pretty amazing what they were able to pull off.

    The Terminator is possibly the greatest "B-movie" ever made. By that i mean, it is the greatest low-budget sci-fi ever produced. The Terminator is a great inspiration for future filmmakers. Cameron showed us what can be possible on a small budget and its freaking amazing.
    T2 on the other hand is the greatest action movie ever made. Cameron showed us whats possible once youve established yourself in the industry. And its freaking phenomenal.
    I just wish we could get a new 5.1 remix for The Terminator. The .45 longslide should sound like a freaking cannon. The audience should be just as shocked and stunned by that weapon as the 35 year old Sarah Connors neighbors after the Terminator blew her head off. Theres an interesting deleted scene revealing the aftermath where Sarah Connors neighbors are running around in complete panic mode. But the newest 5.1 remix makes all of these bad**s weapons sound like squeaky toys, including the shotguns. You cant feel anything from a sound effect like that.

    Everyone thinks Arnold is the good guy, from his off-screen persona. Little do they realize he was hired by James Cameron to unleash destruction and mayhem on an unsuspecting world. The turn reactors make when he guns down the suburban wife Sarah Connor. That's the one the always has the most emotion.

    This movie is nearly flawless. Tight, logical, dynamic plot with great characters, acting, and an incredible hero arc for Sarah. As far as plot, I still love the scene where Reese counters every "inconsistency" in his "delusion". But when you get a secondary character actor like, for example, the criminal psychiatrist/psychologist just nailing his performance, that's directing.

    Don't underestimate Arnolds performance. In reality, he is one of the funniest and nicest guys, so full of life 😂😂 He gives this role his absolute best, and when it's revealed that he is, in fact, a machine you believe it a 100%

    4:29 I really don't understood the question, why would you need a certificate or a license to buy a gun? Also just to let them know, you have to go through a very in depth backup check before they let you buy one

      In Canada it is a far more strict process to purchase or own firearms requiring background check and a firearm license before you can even think about having a gun. I think these ladies are french canadian.

    I am so glad you decided to watch The Terminator series. Terminator 1 is a good movie, but Terminator 2 - Judgement Day is one of the best movies ever made, best SF ever made for me. Must have watched it over 30 times, I almost knew it by heart back when I was a kid. React to it these hollydays, you won't regret it, russian panel all girl power!😉
    PS: another thing, in this T1 you can feel the music is kinda grim and good but also bit old, while in T2 you don't feel that at all, it's completely rectified, it has one of the best soundtrack and also movie theme songs ever made, gives you shivers down your spine, it's better than most of the best movies made today. Can't wait for you girl panel to react to it!😌 But the action is so intense while the music enhances it that you won't even notice it.🤣🤣
    I will leave it here, it's no spoiler, just the theme song of T2, with the intro for it: Terminator 2 Opening Credits (T2 theme) ruclips.net/video/cGrH901xMFI/видео.html&ab_channel=saa182 Don't read the comments, they might contain spoilers! lol

    In the first Terminator we learned that the saviour of humanity created himself (by sending his father back in time to meet his mother), the second movie is about the mirror of that. Then it went downhill.

    I watched Arnold Schwarzenegger on Johnny Carson on here talks about he scaring customers in a restaurant one night. He was in makeup showing his Cybernetic Metal on his face. Arnold was on his way to location that night. Reason that Arnold was promoting Terminator on Johnny Carson. He said people in there were freaking out. During the interview, Arnold told Johnny that he had a vocal coach to minimize his Austrian Accent for getting better movie roles.

    The metal Terminator at the end was animated via stop-motion and then composited into the filmed scene in post. Oftentimes, practical effects like that can look better - or at least more convincing - than CGI....but, sadly, not in this case. LOL! Still a very fun watch, though, don't you think? The story...the script...the performances.
    T2, the sequel, ups the ante on absolutely everything. A must-see!
