Yes, I think if you are in middle or upper management as well as government positions or church, you should dress more formally. There are plenty of relaxed-wear clothes for the weekend, vacation, or hanging out around the house. People are way too sloppy with clothes and practically non-existent with manners.
I find it very nice when people still hold open a door for the person going in or out. And some men are very nice to let women go ahead of them on the bus or give up their seat to a lady or elderly. And people need to go back to the 50's and dress nicely. Since the 60s it has gone downhill. Here in America we had a member of Congress show up in SHORTS so disrespectful. If you are in POWER you should be dressed appropriately.
That woman was incredibly rude and she is Not representative of most women ❤️🇨🇦👋 Those politicians should go get a job in a clothing/shoe shop. Dress respectfully and with authority if you want to be a leader and be taken seriously.
How rude of that person (I won't call her a lady) 'manners maketh man' you are a gentleman Neil. ❤ I always feel that if you are comfortable in a suit and tie fine, if you wanted no tie and trainers....fine. so long as you are true to yourself that is fine. People can always spot a fake.
There's a time and place for everything. The removal of dress code and manners =anarchy. No standards in society, nothing to strive for, just meaningless money - yuk! No thanks. Suits, ties, polished shoes, please and thank you, and all with a smile.
They were fabulous!! What a act that was!! Well that was very rude of her you should have trod on her foot as you passed her!! To be perfectly honest i would just like to find somebody that is capable of leading us 😜😜💖

Young people think you're old - they don't care if you ditch your tie. A couple decades ago I took my college student niece and her friends to the famous Pebble Beach golf tournament. I excitedly told them that Tiger Woods would be playing. They wrinkled their noses and said he was old -- they liked Sergio Garcia, the "Spanish Sensation". At the time they were 20, Sergio was 22 and Tiger was the ancient age of 26.

Ahh, Bing Crosby, Bob Hope, Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis, Jr., Gene Kelly, all men I admire, but my very favorite is, and always has been, Dean Martin. He sings, he acts, he is a comedian, a great dresser, he is a complete entertainer.
Dear Neil don't ever change. I love your smart suit and tie, so professional and a good look. The Royal Rogue started wearing a suit and tie because of you. He said yoi always look so smart and professional that he knew it was the right thing to do. That's a real compliment to your excellent dress sense.
Neil you are so right. The weatherman on 'Points West', our local news programme, is a good looking older man and has always been impeccably dressed in a nice suit and tie. Now, suddenly, he has started wearing unmatching trousers and jacket, with an open neck shirt. He looks a mess and I always shout at the TV "you've forgotten your tie again". I must say he looks a bit uncomfortable, I reckon the BBC have put him up to it. Trendy, no thanks.
Prince William yesterday visiting a school in that sharp suit with narrow tie + black shoes looked brilliant. He shows the boys an excellent example of a leader.
I always thank a gentleman when he lets me go ahead of him through a door. I taught my sons good manners and I expect it from others. We live in Florida and have done so for almost 15 years. My husband is a hospital pharmacist and has always worn a dress shirt and tie under his lab coat. We lived in Florida for over 5 years and he retired but still wore a tie and a dress shirt. Finally he graduated to shorts and I suggested he give up the ties and wear polo shirts without ties. He was aghast at the suggestion. But took the hint and hasn’t worn a tie for many years. But as he said, it’s a difficult habit to break.
Excellently said Neil! I agree completely. It certainly does seem as tho style is forgotten & definitely manners are absent too often. Shameful behavior seems to be tolerated & sometimes even encouraged. Makes me very sad indeed. 🥺

I remember that song. Such great times. Manners have gone out the window and that is so sad. I am with you Neil. I think a nice shirt looks so much better coupled with a smart tie. I do not think trainers goes with the suit. Fashion is not like it used to be. Today we are not as smartly dressed as in the 50's and 60's. I loved that era. Yes agree Leaders should look the part. Classic styles usually stay in style or come back to be favorites. Though much style has been regressing for a few years the pandemic really hurt style & fashion. People worked at home in t-shirt & shorts or their pjs. When I see a man in good suit or a woman with professional attire it gives me a good feeling, knowing that the person is confident about themself & others.
At a doctor’s office recently…there was an elderly man in a wheelchair. Someone came out to get him for all the usual pre-checks. Apparently, he addressed someone as “hon” …and she was mortally offended and berated him for speaking to a woman in such a manner. When he came back out to sit down…he asked me if I would be offended if he or someone else referred to me as “hon”. I was sitting with my husband, and they had already spent 20 minutes chatting, and just with his age..I assumed that was how he addressed most females, and, of course, I wouldn’t be offended. Then we heard that sad story. Even when I think about it…I still want to call that Dr.’s office and give them my 2 cents worth!
I agree with you. wholeheartedly, As a woman, I still enjoy doors being opened for me etc, However, I am from Oklahoma and Opening doors, yes mam, no sir are still prevalent here or at least in our large family and small city. I love casual dress but there is a time and a place for it, I want politicians, world leaders to dress for success ,act their age ,and handle their leadership role with sense and manners and perhaps intelligence.
Where has dressing for the occasion gone?!! Neil, keep the tie on, nothing appeals more to me than a well dressed man suitable for the position they hold in life. It's being respectful, keep the jeans etc. for a walk on the beach.!! Well said Neil! 👏👏
Personally, I love when a "Gentleman" holds a door for me, and I always say a sincere thank you, it only takes a second to be kind and/or considerate, but you are right Neil, sadly Gentlemen are a dying breed, as are polite, appreciative women.
There’s a time and place for certain attire and it takes a certain awareness and good sense to know when to wear what. That’s why people have stylists. it’s not just about fashion, it’s about what’s appropriate. This does matter.
Manners and style haven’t gone out of fashion with me. I was brought up to believe that they are very important. I am a big believer that charm will get you a lot further in life than bullying or rudeness. As for the trend of wearing runners with everything, especially suits, I hate it and wouldn’t be caught dead in them.
Hi Neil they need to have style and to be smart. I’m a great lover of smart clothes and good manners both my children and my grandchildren have these so important.
I was raised properly with manners. I am generally stared at like Im daft for saying excuse me, pardon, yes Ma'am ,no Sir Thank you. That's why I will continue. . I wait for my turn, letting someone go before me in line or thru the door with a full cart as I go in, and they go out. Im sad it's come to this where boorishness is the norm. Common courtesy says a lot about people who practice it and those that don't. At least even if they think Im strange because I behave properly, I never embarrass myself by crashing thru the world and insulting people like its okay to do so. I never will toss my manners aside, I don't feel the need to sound like and act like everyone else who evidently stopped social development in the 8th grade . Cheers!👋👋👋😁
I rarely chime in, but this pushed my button. Manners and respect seem to have “left the building!” I live on the liberal left coast of the USA, and I am aghast at the lack of manners and civility, in our world. I was raised to say “Yes Ma’am, and Yes Sir”, stand up straight, and look somebody in the eyes, when addressing them. It seems lost now ( except for my adult children! ). I always appreciate a well dressed person, and always check out your ties, when listening to your commentaries. Great ties, always interesting commentary. ( sometimes so interesting, that I forget to “like!”…!😊
You made me laugh Neil when you mentioned wearing white. My late mother said to me once 'only very thin people can wear white trousers/pants', I got the message loud and clear.
People are afraid to say Hello when they cross paths, even in a hallway at work. Manners may be out of style, but my grandson(14) just went on a trip with friends and those boys mother and the mom called my daughter and told her she was so impressed by his manners. He says please and thank you and cleans up after himself, offering her help with breakfast, and cleaned up the dishes after. She was shocked and told her boys they needed to spend more time with my grandson.
Shelly - that is great!! Have you looked at what people are wearing? They leave the house wearing anything.Even pajamas at some point. It's ridiculous. Thank you for teaching your grandson Manners...they stay with you forever....🇺🇲.
It's so, so sad Neil. My 14 year old grandson and his 14 year old friend were saying they don't know whether to be courteous to women or not because they get blasted for holding a door; blasted for bringing flowers on Valentine's Day and blasted for letting a girl go first. There was a special banquet---gowns, suits, corsages, etc---and most of the boys didn't invite a girl because they were afraid to deal with the very issue you mentioned. Gone are the sweet days where boys could just court a girl to a nice event and it was a special memory. My granddaughter connected with a boy who braved the risk, and asked her for a date. When the others saw it was safe and she enjoys being treated with respect, other boys came forward to pay attention. My grandson also connected with a sweet girl who enjoys his good manners, which has caused other boys to come forward to flirt with HER. But they're afraid to step out on their own because they've been demeaned so many times. for being a gentleman. This can't be leading anywhere good.
I'm with you Neil. My dad wore a suit and tie his entire working life. Lots of people have more confidence in people who don't look like they've been pulled through a hedge backwards. If they can take the time to get spruced up, they're more likely to pay attention to the details, I think these torn jeans and tatty shirts do not belong in the hoard room😊
Neil, manners never go out of style. Some people people just don’t understand…sad. Now that I am older I find it nice when when younger people show some respect.

I understand too. Those short, tight suits dont even look good on the super thin.
I don't mind the casual look, just so long as they aren't showing underwear. That is one trend I've never liked!
Cheers!👋👋👋😁
Totally agree Neil. It’s what my mother would call mutton dressed as lamb.
Yes I agree with you
People are afraid to say Hello when they cross paths, even in a hallway at work.
Thank you for teaching your grandson
Manners...they stay with you forever....🇺🇲.
I'm with you, Neil!
Could be worse, they could be trying to look "manly" like Macron and Putin
Next time Neil just say, "Oh I do beg your pardon, I mistook you for a lady".
Neil, please be cautious around Kris jenner. Corey Gamble.
CIA?
I 🩶 SINATRA 🎶
I heard the bells!
No, no, no to all this « dressing down » ie. SCRUFFY! I absolutely agree with you Neil and I love your look, so classy. I’m a lady who loves a man in a suit and a sexy, silky tie😍
I always stressed manners in my elementary classroom. It made a difference in behavior.
