When James Stewart's wife died he missed her so much . He refused to have the battery in his pacemaker renewed & died 3 years later. I hope they truly were reunited.

      @harlowesadventuresinwonder1564 5 дней назад

While he was quite troubled by his wife's death, his decision not to have the battery replaced was due to risk and age. He did develop a pulmonary embolism that caused a heart attack, which caused his death. The embolism is a rare side effect of having a pace maker. The pacemaker cannot stop an embolism or prevent a heart attack, just cardiac arrest.

@@scottknode898 His death certificate says his cause of death was myocardial infarction (heart attack) secondary to pulmonary embolism. Heart attack and cardiac arrest are two different things.

I love Mickey Rooney. I saw him once in a play in Chicago. During the performance an elderly woman
seated in the audience shouted out, "Hi Ya, Mickey!" He broke character, went over to where
the woman was, held her hand, thanked her for the greeting and for coming then seamlessly got back
in character and finished the play. What a class act!

Jimmy Stewart came to Fort Worth, Texas to film a movie at our local air base. While he was here he fell in love with our zoo and he continued to support our zoo for the remainder of his life.
He also had a bank account and a credit card at the bank where my husband and I worked. Marlon Brando also had a credit card and bank account with us. The reason I know this is because Mr Brando called our credit card center on day and I happened to receive that call. He asked me to turn his credit card off because his son was in Vegas running up a rather large bill. Yes, Mr Brando’s voice was very recognizable.

Jimmy Stewart worked in the US Air Force as a General in his later adult years. I believe in the Reserves mostly. He was an Aviator in World War 2 and may have had PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder) after the war for a time. I think he delved into his acting career highly after the war to help himself forget the war and rebuild his life. He was happily married for decades to one wife. Yes, we always watch "It's a Wonderful Life" at Christmas annually.

I wrote in another place about going to church where Jimmy Stewart was a member. He did NOT wear a hairpiece when he went to church on Sunday. He was definitely not "ON" for the public on those Sundays. However, when he did the Lessons and Carols Christmas Services in 1980 and 1981, he did wear his toupee, and he knew that the audience would want to meet him and shake his hand. Then, he was "ON" for public consumption. See him almost every Sunday -- alone, his wife did not come -- Stewart seemed a sad personnage. But I feel so grateful I got to see him so often and to "perform" with him for the Lessons and Carols Services. BTW, Ralph Edwards of "This is Your Life" and Greer Garson also attended occasionally.

🇭🇲🦘👋 I always admired Jimmy Stewart as a person and as an actor. Enjoying most of his most memorable movies.
Rock Hudson may have been a star as well, but obviously not so much of a 'gentleman', to have said what he did to the media about Jimmy's hairpiece (or wig) and by doing so publically embarrassing Jimmy Stewart. I don't believe that Jimmy was that 'precious' about himself, but he would have felt humiliated, by his co-star.
So! IF I had to choose between the two, I'd choose Jimmy Stewart before Rock Hudson, every time. While I have enjoyed many of the shows with Rock Hudson, to me, Jimmy Stewart had something 'extra special' to offer.
A very interesting insight. "Thank you" so much Neil xx 👔 ⭐👋

What a cruel thing for Rock Hudson to betray a fellow actor like that simply to ingratiate himself. I used to feel sorry for the way Rock was treated by the press at the end of his life, but perhaps it was a case of "what goes around, comes around". James Stewart was always my favourite actor and sounded like a fine gentleman in real life. To this day his name in the cast ensures I will always watch a film, including "It's a Wonderful Life" every Christmas, despite always thinking I couldn't possibly watch it again. I think my favourite film of his is "Harvey", although it's very hard to choose. Seems the actresses weren't the only ones who had to watch their backs in Hollywood. Thank you Neil for an insight into the sad reality behind the Hollywood glamour.

Imagine the emerging star who had a HUGE and perverted secret, was the one to gossip and then to follow up by being so cruel, and publicly too. Sounds a bit like rachel ragland, in a weird sort of way.

Besides being an incredible actor, Jimmy Stewart served as a flight commander in a bombardment group in missions over Germany. He earned great respect from his men and won several citations, including the Distinguished Flying Cross. His wartime services scarred him so much that he considered giving up acting in exchange to going back to Pennsylvania to run his family's hardware store. He was convinced by Frank Capra, to appear in his film, "It's a Wonderful Life". The emotional scene near the end of the film was real. He wasn't acting, there. Stewart was a good man, besides being an incredible actor.

James Stewart was always a class act. He was beloved by everyone and was considered the average, ordinary, common man and there was nothing snobbish about him. I love watching his movies. I guess my absolute favorites are the three movies that he made with the wonderful June Allison, what great chemistry they had together. She seemed to have a way of bringing out the "lighter" side of him. To me, they were magic together.

That was nasty of Rock Hudson. I still love James Stewart. What does it matter if he wore a wig or not? I'm not surprised that James was embarrassed and never spoke to Rock again.

Jimmy Stewart , was one of my very favorite actors. I still watch it’s a Wonderful Life , every year. I loved him in Two Rode Together, with Richard Widmark . One of the airplane museums we visited while living in the UK had a uniform he wore in WWll and an airplane like the one he flew. Thank you Neil, for sharing this story .I’m sorry to hear Rock Hudson , thought It was funny to embarrass him like that. I enjoyed reading some of the other comments about Jimmy Stewart on here. Take care & God bless ❤️🇺🇸

    I love Jimmy Stewart!!!
I didn't know he wore a hair piece!!!
And I never thought Jimmy Stewart would have that kind of pride... But back then he was the leading handsome hero.... And Rock Hudson was a different very handsome hero... I THINK Rock Hudson played in a wonderful movie, Giant. He was very good in it. It wasn't like his Doris Day/ Pillow Talk movies ( which as a kid were great to me ). My all time favorite movie is It's A Wonderful Life with Jimmy Stewart. I wouldn't have cared if he had a lot of hair or not, he was my favorite movie star.

I love Jimmy Stewart in It’s A Wonderful Life❣️❣️❣️❣️It’s my favorite movie of all time❣️❣️❣️I have watched the movie every year since I’ve been 5yrs old. Not understanding @ that tender age the message of the film, but watching the movie always felt like a warm hug. As grew up & understood the message in the movie I fell in loved with the movie all over again. I feel like Jimmy Stewart & Donna Reed were the only two people perfect for their roles. As to Rock Hudson - we have a saying in the states “ what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas “ to bad Rock Hudson didn’t give Jimmy Stewart that courtesy!! After all people had given Rock Hudson his privacy when it came to his private life.

These back stories are excellent Neil, and i'll go and seek out the Parky interview.
I never knew that was a hairpiece! Just goes to show the 'magic' of Hollywood and how we can all be fooled.
As a young man, Rock Hudson wouldn't have been good at steering through the steely Hollywood press - something he would have to do later in his life.
Just 😂😂😂 at the toupee sailing down the river!!!

Jimmy Stewart was my favourite actor and a really good human being. Look at his war record, he came to the UK and enlisted. The poem he wrote about his old dog Beau that he read on the Michael Parkinson show had the country in tears.

I was a great Jimmy Stewart fan, from his cowboy films to Alfred Hitchcocks films. He was a genuine war hero and a clean living and faithful husband. One the other hand I also really liked Rock Hudson, he was so good to look at......Both super men in their own way.
