'Vaarumaiya Podhagare' is a soulful prayer song written by
Suviseda Kavirayar D.VEDANAYAGA SASTHRIYAR. 1774-1864. He was a court poet in the palace of King Serfoji ll, and has written 133 books and over 500 lyrics. In the year 1987, Composer Shyaam (a) Dr. Samuel Joseph felt a strong leading to revive old keerthanais. He presented his intention to compose a new tune with the same traditional lyrics of "Vaarumaiya Pothagare" for his choir, to the present Sasthriar - Bagavathar Durairaj Vedanayagam Sastriyar, who gladly encouraged him to do so and appreciated the idea. In this video, the Christian Cultural Academy Choir performs Vaarumaiya Podhagare in 4 part harmony, adorned with swarams.
