Arthur you're doing great. I've got the same job coming up and I'm dreading it. I'm also working alone..... And I'm 70!!!!
A few tips on metal roofs. The screws have self seal on them, so don’t over tighten, should be zero dimple in the metal. If you go too far, just back it off slightly. You also want to put the screws on the ridges of the sheet metal, not the valley or flat part. You’ll see it looks super nice spacing wise.
When you’re having trouble with those screws biting in because they’re self tapping, use a metal punch to make a dent where you want to start and those will go in easy. I put my screw on the bit and use my off hand to give the drill a hit on the top instead of a punch. Takes a bit to get used to that, so a punch is probably your better bet.
Please also wear gloves when you’re working with those sheets, they can slice you so quickly even when paying attention.
When you get to a point that you can’t reach and need to be on top, you don’t have much of a pitch, but it’s still slick up there. If your screws were on the ridges, back them out a bit in a line and put a 2x4 on the ridge side of those screws to create a bit of a cleat you can put your feet or knees on to keep ya from sliding off.
This was a nailbiter. You turned a roofing job into a life and death struggle and I loved every bit of it. Fat Guy on a Roof needs to be put to the Batman theme song from the old TV show. I really enjoy your content. Job well done too.
Hey bud when you screw those screws in don't drive them down all the way cuz you're crunching the metal and you're smashing a little Rubber seal around there that little rubber seals not supposed to be smashed you're supposed to just barely tighten them
You got it done ! That's what counts !working by yourself is always tougher , good job young fella !
You might want to add some gussets or ties to you rafter joints in the center. They add strength for snow loads and falling tree limbs.
Post filming video narration is really good viewing for your videos. You are very good at the story telling, the editing is also really good. Great job Arthur! Quality Channel!
You did good. Well done ! Luv your banter❤
Fat guy on a roof is my new favorite song
Looks like he has lost 30 lbs
@@Nomadiccamping it's still a cool song
If I were you then boards that you were going to cut up at the top I would leave it to have an overhang for when you walk out your door hun you doing a great job don't listen to nobody keep it up I'm watching you that's all that matters
I'm afraid of heights, too. I felt your augish. In the end, you did great! 👍🏼
You now need a on demand hot shower. Outdoor shower should be your next project. Looking good brother. Keep up the content.
Yea, so I'm gonna need more videos of you working on the roof! I just checked my front door, and it also goes in and towards the right, so that's cool. Thanks for sharing, and I'm glad you figured out putting the roof up from the inside.
Kudos for overcoming your struggles and thanks for sharing your huddles. You got this.
Great Job Arthur!
I can def tell panic or stress of being on roof made you struggle with basic problem solving or planning at start. starting on other end with no ladder or baker. was wild. nothing wrong with that. doing ur best. loving the series
Your narration had me laughing my butt off. You’re making great progress. Great job. See you on the next one.
Yay Arthur!! Always great to see a new video.
PREDRILL screw holes through the entire stack of panels on the ground. They will line up and be in pretty rows. And don't screw them down so tight that they bend.
The Door is fine
I'm with you as far as the heights thing goes! It was hilarious to watch, glad it wasn't me..
Arthur, watching this vid, I had to stop with the POV part because I have a form of acrophobia that involves fear of falling from a height. Not afraid of actually being up high, but afraid of falling. More so than a normal person would be afraid.
Also, when you were struggling with the roof, I asked out loud, why you weren't doing the roof from the inside. Also wondered why you didn't pre-drill holes in the panels. Was glad to see you figured out the "do it from the inside" part, and it doesn't matter about drilling the holes. Will agree with another commenter that you should invest in a tool belt, or nail/screw pouch.
Good job all the way around.
Good job ! You are very organized and your channel is really growing
When you attached the spatula to the sign, I saw the makings of a pizza peel. Time to build a wood fired pizza oven for your new pizza peel. No roofs involved on that build.
I like watching your story as you build your first cabin. I don't mean to criticize, but you, once you got your roof on. I see you that you have an overhang. I apologize for that. I didn't see any rafter tails, but I'm sure that you'll put something in there to stabilize the end of them. Sheets, keep up the good work for somebody. That's Fred of heights. I think you just conquered your height. Fear of heights by finishing your Wolf. And you're still alive, but I love your content. Honestly I do what was that
I too am afraid of heights! Great job! You have balls!
Your getting it done!
Love your content! 🤙
Swing the door out? Stronger if someone tries to kick your door in & don't need to worry about interior corners (counter, furniture, etc.). More interior room. Doing great.
The next time you do a metal roof take some measurements and predrill the entire stack of sheets and they will be way easier and the screws will be all uniformly spaced.😊
Hey next time you do a metal roof stack your panels evenly predrill your holes the screws will line up perfectly and it will make your job much easier plus don't drive them home just snug em that being said you are doing a fine job
Watching from Sydney Australia doing great mate
You’re Good.
I heard a fisherman’s advice that Avon Skin so soft might protect against no see ums. So maybe it would work with horseflies? Depending if you’re not to sensitive to Avon products
I sympathize with you and heights! I am the exact same way!
Good job , white milky substance in a square cream color plastic bottle at tractor supply mix with water into spray attachment or bottle b4 rain ☔️ makes bug eggs unable to multiply .. please don’t burn plastic in the forest or anywhere It kills the trees . It creates a chemical called cyanide which can kill humans too . Good Job love the house 🏠 love the No Music
Roofing, about the shittiest job that can be done. Lesson #1, stay the hell off as much of the roof as you can for it. Must smarter/safer/faster getting the leverage you need from the inside. I was kind of wondering why you'd get on top of that structure when you were all alone out in the woods like that. But that is how you learn. I think you said this is the first time you've built a structure all by yourself. But clearly you've built some stuff with others because you have some pretty good fundamental skill and drive. Keep it up.
Arrgh...pre-drill...use shorter screws and keep the positive attitude!
Pleasant Moose Lodge behind Zellers, for a few bucks you can take a shower.
Maybe it would have helped to put more purlins is so you have more support
looks good though there should have been a barrier under the steel roof before you installed it, in the winter condensation will form on the underside and it will drip
Curious as to why no vapor barrier under the metal🤷♀️Entertaining video👍you got this
For future metal roofs you might want to pre drill the holes to make it easier for yourself.
Buy a nail bag.
Would it have helped to drill holes in the tin before you go onto the roof?
I worked for pole barn building construction company. We always pre drilled every hole it makes everything easier.
I would like to know how you didn't run your rafters. Too. Bare foot outside the wall. You built your cabin like it trailer house. You needed some overhang
The door on any occupied building should swing out! I personally could care whether it was left or right.
Unless you’re in a high snow area.
Hate to be picky but your rafters need sme support in the center. Flat mending plates would be a help.
well you did it 👍 yes theres ways known by others but its on its closed you didnt fall die or worse.. so 🙏👍
I need a drink! but I don't drink.
Should of pre drilled holes. But thanks for the entertainment. :)
I would also be a fat guy on a roof but FYI: I was able to do the entire roof except the last piece on each side from inside on a ladder. My arms are just long enough……..Oh! Ya figured it out
Great content I'm the same way I'm a bigger person and I'm not a fan of height
Wear steel toe boots honey. You had me stressing.
I don't get it 🤔, you keep saying that you don't want to film this or that.why are you on RUclips?
Clearly you don't understand what a creator means about filming this, that or the other. What they're referring to is having to move the camera around, taking the time to do that while still trying to get something else done. In Arthur's case, he mentioned in a previous video that he got a lot of comments from people complaining about the POV shots, as opposed to a set camera shot.
I envy what you're getting to accomplish but man it's painful watching your build. You did NOT set yourself up for success. Why are you doing all that climbing back and forth? Stage the baker and ladder on the same side? 🤔 Smarter.... not harder 🫣🤦♂️
