keep in mind Mick is still a kid on a limited budget. He is doing what he can on the cheap while making his homestead amazing. 😊 Keep in mind also that everything in Alaska is twice or more expensive then the lower 48. Wheel barrels included. Mick is thinking out side the box when it comes to using what he has to accomplish what he needs to accomplish without spending money.
I’m sure he didn’t have the money for the wheelbarrow or the wagon but I agree with you both. A wheelbarrow or wagon would be helpful for number of projects he will have in the future, but who knows
I would of tried to BACK My trunk right up to the Gravel And Shoveled it in.......and my friend....the Very First thing on your MUST HAVE LIST When building your paradise is a wheel barrel.... your hard work definitely paid off....its Beautiful 👍🏻✊
Anyone who hasn't stopped on a highway because they saw something useful and just had to take it back to the house is really missing out. It's one of the great joys of life.
you so remind me of me... paying attention to the little things that make a place feel like a home. i'm sure you don't remember, but i hauled gravel just like that in our van- one bucket at a time, for our cabin north of fairbanks. i love your charming weasels!
Hello Mick: you are learning some thing new each day and I love the ideas that you check out the sides of the road and see what you can use. Way to go remember always check the sides of the road and check out second hand stores. Have fun and enjoy the journey.
Hello and congrats for all the great work you are doing! 🍻 An small trailer would be a verry big help to carry al of that materials, especialy stones and gravel maybe you can find an old one for cheap. Btw, an video with outdoor cleanup of the sorounding, seting more gravel pathing and landscaping would be verry satisfiying and I think would make some views, you would be surprised what cand you do with old logs, some stones and maybe some moss.
Excellent video, and very good work! 👍 Absolutely not to be a 'Negative Nellie'..... In our neck of rhe woods, we're already preparing for winter rt now- chopping & splitting wood like crazy. Summer is so short. 👌 I also look for all sales on pantr y staples for meals, and stock up like crazy 👌 My husband hunts, so there's the venison, & we fish a lot. Hunt, Fish, chop wood & gather now. Winter comes suddenly. Great job, and keep it up! 👍👍🙂
Imagine if that home is also a subsistence farm and you have a full time job and an on call job you really have to love what you’re doing and where you are
Because most boomer parents didn't do a single thing to their homes besides superficial things....and us millennials are now having to deal with their cheapness and laziness.
Utter bs ..My parents and neighbors were always doing Maintenance,. They weren't made of money so had to do it when they could afford it..They also all had vegetable gardens which provided most of their food as well as full time jobs . @@TheBalognaPony
1. I would lower your platform ~8 inches. That would help prevent snow from piling up in front of your door and blocking your way out, or melting and the water run into your house. 2. Why place your outhouse at the end of the driveway? Wouldn’t be much more convenient to have it located close proximity to your house (say 20-25 feet away)?
Have you got a plan in place for about 10 cords of seasoned firewood ready for the coming winter ??? Maybe the pathway shouldn't be a priority just yet !!!😊
Hi Mick! The pathway looks great, and your flower bed looks like it is going to be a nice welcome addition to the pathway!! Your weasels are quite comical, and entertaining to watch!! The property is looking really nice 👍 😊
Hi Mick! The last time i saw the shovel was when you were washing the roots of the flowers, by the river. 😊 The change in your cabin and outside are is nicely noticeable, and so is your determination to make it your home. I'm very proud of you! Like always, please be safe and God bless you!
Excellent job on everything Mick. Love how your gravel path turned out and the flower garden!! See how everything gets done on the next one.👍👍Take care and God Bless ya always
Your place starting to look great. Just one suggestion on your deck for the steps you may want to lower it so when it rains water won't flow back into your house. And snow won't stop your door from opening. Just a thought.
Mick your homestead is looking amazing. Love the new rock paths, flower rock planters etc. Great job. 🌲🌲🌲 Just watched a vd on a guy who goes to new developments or a new home being built during the frame stage and ask if he can have the FREE scrap wood. Most of the time he says they always say "yes". In the scrap wood pile he finds a ton of great building wood. See if you can find a new home being built during the weekday and ask for this wood for free to build your porch bigger and for other projects you need framing lumber for. Keep up the great work Mick. You have build a fantastic cabin. Your land & views are amazing. Beautiful trees on your property too. take care ps check with the state to make sure you can dig up wild flowers. Some states you can and some you cant. but, love the idea of getting them. You can always harvarist the seeds to plant in the spring.
If you would build a screened in porch with a wooden stove and roof, you could sit outside at night and during the colder months with friends and family. That would extend your living space and you wouldn't feel so cooped up inside. Put a nice, strong door on it.
YES!! FINALLY, steps. You made an old woman happy. The flower bed is a lovely idea. And I know you are happy about having a place to do your business. haha You have a beautiful area there and some unique wildlife. Well unique to this old woman. You are doing great. God Bless you.
Hey Mick! Here in Brazil we usually put some kind of tarp or plastic under the gravel to avoid having plants growing in the middle of it. Its very hard to manage them cause you have to pull them out by hand, and many who have this problem resort to using herbicides. Hope it helps! Greetings from the other side of the world.
I always look forward to your videos! No matter the topic!!! So interesting, relaxing, and with the splash of nature I look forward to, takes me away from my aching body for a few- that’s priceless to me 😘😘😘. Keep posting- Love you tons!
Mick, I learned all about the weight of gravel last Summer when I decided to have a dump truck load of gravel delivered and proceeded to hand spread it in various parts of my property. I wore out the wheel barrow doing it. LOL. I am a 60 year old lady and yeh, it was quite the workout. In the end, I learned a neighbor had a small loader and he finished the last of the work because the ground was so hard. At first I wished I had known about my neighbor at the beginning but after looking around at all I managed to accomplish, it felt so rewarding! I patted myself on the back. lol. You should do the same. That was hard work and you are better off for doing it.
Awesome job on the stone path. Yes rock is heavy but as I always say beats paying for a gym membership. Lol you have some great free resources. Those larger rock you gathered up would have costs some money down in the lower 48. Great job. Another Whipple creation to happiness. Keep up the great work.
It's really looking good 👍 now build a huge wood shed so you can be ready with dry hassle free wood this winter stock up on food supplies An awning over door to keep water snow out?? Screen door?? Few solar lights
Wrap the wood under shelter. Build up if snakes are a problem. And you need a garage lean-to to store your extra tools. Lock if theft may be a problem.
My mom built a patio on the back of the house with flat rocks and after I had moved out she continued it from the patio steps to the front of the house, maybe another 20 - 24 feet. I need to pull some of it up and level it but it sure is great for my planters!
The gravel path looks good and the rocks will keep the rain from washing it away. The flower bed is a nice addition. Front steps and outhouse completion coming right up! Nice work.
Your new front step is going to be an issue in the winter, your door swings out. If you get freezing rain on a couple of inches of snow you won’t be able to open your door. You might want to consider having the door open inward. Also you should punch some holes in the bottom of your outhouse barrel to let the liquids out.
Seems more like a "toil for your food" kind of day until those winter videos. These projects really made the property look a lot nicer already. I do also appreciate these videos are about as long as it takes to sit down and eat a meal. It's a nice project to put on while you eat for a few minutes. Be safe and great job!
You left your shovel by the water when you were washing the roots to the wild flowers… the path and flower bed is very cute. You are gonna enjoy it so much more with the pretty sights around you.
Winter 2024-25 will be much more bearable for you. And, making two or three man projects, one man done slowly with improvised tools, will give you boasting rights among your friends. Good for you Mick!
Hey, Mick. I highly suggest you add 1/4-inch gaps between those deck boards, in addition to sealing them. The rain/snow will run off easier that way and slow down any rot that may develop. And, as many have already said in previous videos, flip your door frame around. You're doing great though. Very inspiring young man!
Oh my! The flower bed is really going to make it look good! Nice walkway, although I did like your first stone path idea but it is a pain to dig out and get all the stones flat/lined up and then keep it weeded! It’s really starting to look like a home. Thank you for owning your mistakes and sharing with us, btw, very mature on your part and helpful to future diyers. 👏
Path looks great! New subbie from Alberta, 🇨🇦. Native plants have an extensive root system, that’s why they are so great to grow! You left your shovel on the beach!
That path will be worth the effort. Before I had a trailer and a good garden wagon, I transported gravel and rock in 5 gallon buckets. Couldn't fill them all the way, but made the job doable.
Hey, so I would recommend taking the deck boards up and re-doing them as they are supposed to have gaps so that water drains and allows for the wood to expand.
Great progress Mick! Love your walk and flower bed, looks very nice! Good to see you get the things done that satisfies your needs! God’s blessings!❤❤❤❤

Mick, your new pathways look great and they really set off your place! I love all the thoughtful details you are putting into your land! I agree with Raquel below, the last time your shovel appears on the video is 9:31 into the video where you are moistening the flower roots at the river. It appears that you walk over the shovel and probably left it next to the river. Hopefully it's not too far to go check for it there and hopefully it's still there. Good luck and keep on "toiling for your food"
Really like your porch! And your gravel path is so inviting. Can’t wait to see the lifting of the outhouse! Love your videos! Thank you for staying committed to giving us one each week. I look forward to them!
3 minutes in, I think a wheelbarrow would be a worthy investment. and maybe a few 5 gallon buckets.
My thoughts exactly. A wheelbarrow is a time and back saver.

Success is the sum of small efforts made day by day. Keep it going you’re doing well. !!!!!

I was wondering the same. Did someone take your shovel as you washed the plants by the lake?
May have gotten distracted by the weasels and left it behind
Barrels are good for burning stuff too. Country people always have a burn barrel
Excellent job on everything Mick. Love how your gravel path turned out and the flower garden!! See how everything gets done on the next one.👍👍Take care and God Bless ya always

Congrats on the progress you've made so far! I'd love to live off grid like this. Hope you continue to do well!

Mick the place look nice take care.
Use those nice flat rocks that you removed from the path to make a sitting area by the cabin.
Your shovel is at the river where you were digging up the flowers 💐
Path looks great. Might even look better than the flat stone.

That gravel path is extremely aesthetic.
Much needed it will get ‘earthy’ real quick❗️
@@sgrvtl7183yes I bet weeds come through , nice though!
And narrow
Yes but it will be very hard to clear it from snow...

Yep, thought that too.
They will shrink and create their own gaps.
Watching your videos may turn into my Sunday hobby.
Great progress Mick! Love your walk and flower bed, looks very nice! Good to see you get the things done that satisfies your needs! God’s blessings!❤❤❤❤
Awesome work, and so inspiring. Next step, getting yourself a small solar and battery setup.
You are a joy and inspiration to watch.😎
i think this might be my favourite video
Great video, Mick! The path looks great!! You have the artistic gift of your mom! That's a good start on the stairs. I agree with another commenter that the last place we saw the shovel was by the river when you were hydrating the wildflowers.
And I agree with another suggestion from a commenter to get a couple of 5-gallon buckets. They are incredibly useful.
I look forward to your videos and you never disappoint!
Keep up the good work, stay healthy, thank God for each day, and give Him the glory!! ❤️❤️❤️🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Great progress. Looking good. I think your shovel is lying at the river where you rinse the wild flowers. Have a great time
The video before this you built a small bird house. Maybe you can get some footage of birds checking it out. As much natural nature as possible. I really enjoy seeing it in your videos knowing I’ll never make it to Alaska myself. Thanks for your videos. I thoroughly enjoy them.
“Barrel”ly fits. 😂
Mick great job looks awesome
You are really getting the hang of your needed chores and builds. And you have more spring in your step, which is so needed for a place with a short outside working season. See ya later.
Looks like you have a natural eye for landscaping. It's hard and rewarding work. Nice job.
Awesome path, awesome wildflower garden!!!!

Yes, I too thought when he found it; he was going to use it as a burn barrel! ❤
Gravel path is awesome! I love it! Out house will be amazing! Porch steps have been worth waiting for.
Hello you did a great job on the walkway and the floor bed for flowers. The place is starting to take shape.
Love the sidewalk , looks so nice. You are getting there. Wow free stone gravel how lucky that is.
What a creative gravel path Mick love it !, it is pleasing to look at winding through your tree's . The wildflower garden adds to the look.Your home is really taking shape . Thank's for bringing us along always look forward to your next project.
Moving along real well! Great imagination on the walk way. Having your own ideas about your own place is GREAT!!
Nicely built stoop. You accomplished quite a bit. Give yourself a pat on the back for what you did do. Looking forward to the next video.
