    Thank you so much for setting the example for what I want to do (right down to the dome tent!), and - in doing so - teaching this eager amateur a bit more about building a cabin than many other videos and websites did. Good luck with the new school year in the US. Don't kill any kids intentionally!

    They are called Lady bugs and are completely harmless. By the way, the freeze in the winter, then thaw, and live again, incredible huh!

    • @SRV463
      @SRV463  3 месяца назад

      Hey James, we do have Lady Bugs here in TX, but they have a red shell with black dots. These things in the video were kind of black with a white stripe (camera wouldn't focus). They would crawl into my shirt and bite me. It felt sort of like a fire ant bite, but didn't swell up afterwards. Interestingly enough, I figured out they were attracted to white clothes. They didn't bother me unless I was wearing white. Thanks for watching!

    It's great being able to build where you never get frost to heave the building around. Save a lot of digging down to below the frost line.
    Why would you use such wide floor joist support beams, only to 45 the ends, reducing it's width. May as well went with a smaller beam and saved some money

    What windows did you use? Sorry if I missed you saying it.

    • @SRV463
      @SRV463  Месяц назад +1

      The larger window is an old Atrium that is almost 30 years old, the smaller one I purchased brand new at Home Depot. The atrium works great, but the newer small one is really bad. The whole window comes out, I’m not sure what they were thinking when designing it (you can see how crooked it is in part2). I actually plan to remove it completely and install another atrium window in the future.

    • @fromcitytowild
      @fromcitytowild Месяц назад +1

      @@SRV463 We ended up using Plygem windows from Home Depot and obviously they're cheap windows. I noticed yours are black* on the inside...mine are black on outside but white on the inside. I should've looked harder for black on black.
      I used Milgard aluminum windows on my tiny home I'm still building but with the heat and cold in the high desert, probably wouldn't have been the best decision. Plus, Milgard is more expensive and I wasn't happy with the build quality.

    My guess is those thin concrete pavers you stacked as a foundation or whatever they are will crack and eventually erode away as the ground and cabin settles. There's a big difference in strength between a piece of let's say 8" solid block concrete versus stacking 4 pieces of 2" thick concrete to make 8". Best of luck to you , hope you don't have problems

      In most soil situations you’d be correct with your concern. But looking at their soil it’s rock based. That ground is not going to settle or shift like regular ground would

    • @JH-jd8ip
      @JH-jd8ip 3 месяца назад +2

      @davesrvchannel4717 maybe you're right, maybe not but between the weight of a cabin and it's furnishings, heavy snow and frost you get in the rockies I definitely wouldn't chance it. Heck I wouldn't even build a shed on stacked up paver blocks , but that's just me. Best to you and the uploaders
