Basically a summary:
Our main character Brie (aka America Singer meets Feyre Archeron) goes to a faerie land to free her sister, who was sold into slavery, where she falls in love with not one but TWO faerie princes - 1) BaSh (aka Tamlin) and 2) Flin (aka feminist Rhysand who is supposed to be this bad guy but turns out to be the good one. Oh but he is also a creep who visits his dead snacks in the catacombs sometimes, aaaand he has silver eyes). In order to steal some objects from the castle and get back her sister, she has to compete for Tamlin's(Maxon's?) hand with 12 other girls (aka The Selection) where she is oBvIoUslY the first choice. She gets the objects because no one cares if there is a thief in the castle and frees her sister from the Unseelie Court (which she apparently can rule herself lmao because that's how we create some content for the sequel). She then bonds with Bash (aka the Parabatai) even though she was warned not to do that.
End of story (or perhaps I should say storiES because it just feels like the author read a bunch of popular YA novels, took bits and peaces out of them and glued them together to create a 234 page long fanfic).

I hated how blatantly manipulative bash was and for some reason fmc doesn't see it unless someone else tells her and blames herself and he was so gaslighting. Flynn was meh but his badness was kinda pretty straight up and it was annoying how she sees that and doesn't see bashs obvious suckiness. It was so obvious that bash was gonna be a bad guy in the end I was waiting so long. And the author really tried to make another rhysand and it missed the mark sooo much. Like they both suck so dam much.
That clip from "She's The Man" was absolute perfection! Cari's content always delivers!

I didn't read this one but I just finished reading the everless/evermore duology and WTF... The concept was interesting but the execution was beyond saving. I hate it when main characters keep doing this stupid things without having valid reasons to do them when everyone else is telling them it's not a good idea and then when they realize it was a bad idea they act like it's the most unfair thing ever. Girl you had a choice and you decided to do this! Don't blame the others now

I read this book a little bit after it came out too, and I actually thought it was YA going into it bc I found it on the goodreads YA list…figured out later that it is not strictly YA lmao. I finished this book a few hours ago and…I have questions.

One thing I didn’t understand, maybe someone can explain this to me:
In the beginning it’s said that the prince needs a mortal wife to birth a child as faeries apparently cannot? Or are infertile or something, so every king always had to have a mortal wife before she was given the Life Potion and became kinda immortal.
But then near the end it is told that all of this finding-a-human-wife-thing was only hosted because the Prince insisted and because he was in love with Brie - as if it were something totally special to find a human for a faerie prince.
Plus, why did he try to talk her out of going to the Seelie Court in the beginning then?
okay wait…also…Queen Arya was faerie the whole time because she was the princess, right? Which means, she had Sebastian while being immortal and all that stuff. So apparently faerie aren’t infertile after all?

When I saw the book description saying it was a The Cruel Prince + ACOTAR kinda book, I KNEW RIGHT THEN AND THERE that I needed to see a review video....Because I loved The Cruel Prince just as much as I found ACOTAR deprived of logic ( trust me I agreed WAY too much with Cindy to actually even THINK that I found the book good )......and from what you told this feels like a more chaotic version of ACOTAR.
like the female protagonist is nowhere near good as JUDE DUARTE ( A character who had an immense amount of intelligence, knowledge, AND SKILLS ). So saying it has even a bit of Cruel Prince in it, is a crime, because The Cruel Prince is a book where the story's weaving strings are in the hands of the Female Lead, she is the one who read the other characters like an open book and braided the story against the antagonist's plan. Holly Black literally wrote Jude's character in such a way that the name Jude Duarte can easily fall synonym to the word Strategic, literally remove her character and everyone will end up dead or miserable...and from what you told I saw none of those qualities in this Female Protagonist.
I didn't get any TCP in it. For me it's acotar + cinderella + red queen + everless + from blood and ash + the selection
i was so zoned out and u started explaining about how the main girl was the true heir and u were going on a tangent and i was just "wait wait wait so main girl and sebastian r like half siblings??????????????????" help whats the family tree im sobbing

I’m a remarkably old fashioned reader, not in terms of like “I refuse to read anything not on paper” and more like “I grew up reading Great Expectations, Oliver Twist, and tons more concerningly long complicated books from the 1800s, so my baseline for a good book is weird.” But i like watching booktube sometimes, since I’ve never gotten into ya fantasy really and all the content around ACOTAR made me aware of Sarah J. Maas and how weird her writing is. And it got to be so much that I caved and bought the ebook bc I was like how. How is it this confusing. And uh I got like halfway through and I was like oh. Boy this was probably not the best intro to ya fantasy and spent a good amount of time trying not to scream at 3am bc my roommates were asleep. Maybe it’s that I’ve been spoiled by good fanfiction or maybe it’s that there’s so many fairy sex things that I can mentally handle, but I ended up getting BACK into writing from around seven years ago bc I felt like I was morally obligated to fix ACOTAR for no reason.
So basically this book sounds, somehow, worse than that experience, because at least I could close my eyes and pretend that feyre didn’t exist
It's crazy, I kind of feel the same right now. And I can't stop overanalyzing it and telling myself that so many things could have gone well but she just didn't go very deep - and so I imagine the way it could be fixed and become a more than above average book. I used to love it, mind you, as an entry into English (as it's not my native tongue).

I liked this book! Not the greatest and had some problems but I’m def gonna read the next one. I could have definitely done with out the entire selection part. I actually appreciated the author didn’t even bother to introduce the other girls - it was just something going on in the background. I was like, thank god lol (just read king of the south which also has the trope and did not want to sit through it again) also

11:50 Ik this video is old BUT I did just want to chime in and say that the Sebastian in CW's Reign also went by Bash and that came out in 2013 so that's probably where the author got it (I remember because when that came out I also named a character in my story Bash after him)

See this thing with the bonding is why I’m struggling to read the sequel because every time she whines about how she could be in the human world with her sister, I’m thinking well you dumped her there so you could gallivant into the sunset with your faerie boyfriend - don’t expect me to feel sorry for you. You chose to bond with him….it really felt like the book could have been a standalone
I started to write a story and posted it online long ago that was a next generation continuation of Cinderella and I had the main character's sisters not want to go to the ball because the last thing they want to be is to be a princess. Been thinking of rewriting and continuing the story. Yet, from what you say it seems like it is not an original idea anymore. Although, I think none of the characters had red hair. If you are writing a fantasy story it is better to either go really normal with hair color or go all out and have some other weird color.
