I kinda feel the same way about a third Six of Crows; It feels so perfect where it was left and there's no pressing reason to continue the series, however, I have enough faith in Leigh that she could do something great in a third book. I honestly hope that if she decides to write it, it's because SHE wants to and she has a continuing plot in mind that makes sense, not just a tag along book for the fans because they demanded it.
Six of crows duology was definitely my fav of the grishaverse, but I feel like it ended so well that another book would be forced. Don’t get me wrong, I want more of their story, but… the way bardugo ended it felt pretty complete and I feel like anything extra would just be epilogue fan service stuff. Idk 🤷♀️
strange the dreamer is a great duology! I finished the first and then read the second all in one sitting till like 3 am. Its a great adventure, the romance is so sweet, and the magic is really cool.
I know this is late, but when it comes to Six of Crows + Crooked Kingdom, I view it as a duology. It’s two books with a complete story. Adding another book, based on the end of Rules of Wolves, is like a start of a new story. With the same characters. A new stand alone, a new series, who knows. But they would stand on their own story wise. Like how Shadow and Bone and King of Scars + Rule of Wolves are pretty intertwined, continuing character arches and such, but still their own stories in the same universe. But with the Inheritance Games, I completely agree with you :)
I waited for the Inheritance Games for about 10 weeks. Read it all in one sitting. Now I'm waiting another 10 weeks for the Hawthorne legacy. I blame you!!! 😋😋😋
since we’re talking about duologies i would like to mention one of my favorite duologies: CRIER’S WAR. the world building is amazing and it has a f/f slow burn enemies-to-lovers romance that made me go insane
Is it bad I had to DNF These Violent Delights? 😬😬😬 It was more historical fiction with a monster than fantasy, imo, and as much as I loved roma's cousin and best friend, I really wasn't vibing with Juliette. And I didn't feel the chemistry of the 2 leads. I reeeeeally wanted to love this book.
I totally agree about These Violent Delights - the last scene really saved it for me, and now I'm excited to see where that plotline leads! Also the gentle scream at the start...a mood
I remember reading First few chapters a while backing hadn't a lot trouble getting into it. I guess I romanticize more of the setting and wasn't too crazy about the writing style
*aristotle and dante discover the secrets of the universe* is getting a sequel in like 2 weeks after almost a decade so uhhhhh one of my favourite books is now becoming a duology woooooo
A duology I absolutely adore is the This Poison Heart duology by Kalynn Bayron. The second book oddly has the opposite effect as some of the ones you talked about where it is significantly shorter than the first one, and a lot of the really interesting stuff happens in the first book. Both still absolutely worth the read for fans of The Secret Garden, Greco-Roman myth, and urban fantasies though
21:37 I haven’t read six of crows or anything by Leigh Bardugo YET but I completely understand not wanting that third book. I love the Princess Bride and I got a special edition of the book three years ago for my birthday and it had an epilogue of sorts and I read the first line, hated it, and chose to forget I ever read it
So I was browsing through the ana Luisa website the other day and came across this necklace called “cari reversible” I loved it so much and I immediately bought it I read some of the reviews and people were saying how you announced it on RUclips! So of course right away I subscribed to your main channel (I love your vlogs!!) and then I saw that you have a booktube channel!!!!!!!! I’m so happy I found you!!!!!!!!! ❤️❤️
NOOOO YOU JUST DROPPED THE 3RD BOOK BOMB ON ME!!!!!! 😭 i started reading the hawthorne legacy TODAY and i literally told my friend 5 minutes ago that i hoped this was the last one and i didnt think there could be more plot for a third book :,) its fine cool cool cool
hard hard agree about six of crows three. it's also why i was super nervous for it to be adapted for tv. i don't want the show to change my perception of the books, which are perfect to me
Did some cursory recon and Shanghai of the 20s and 30s was considered to be like Paris and NYC, so the author of "These Violent Delights" probably got the mise-en-scene pretty authentic. I recommend the film "The White Countess" (James Ivory, 2005) if you're curious about what Shanghai was like.
omg I thought the Inheritance Game series is a duology too! I also have the second book preordered(it arrived on my kindle the day it was released) and THANKFULLY I had other books to read. So now, with this video, I'm debating whether to even read the second book this year or I should wait till next year.
Spooky books (no idea which you've have read cause I'm a recent subscriber): The Broken Girls by Simone St. James, The ghost tree & Near the bone by Christina Henry, The Twisted Ones and The Hollow Places by T. Kingfisher, Rules for Vanishing by Kate Alice Marshall, The Return by Rachel Harrison
The Call by, Peadar O'Guilin (also a duology, oddly enough). Super creepy fall vibes. Fairies as they were originally portrayed. Absolutely terrifying monsters. I recommend the audiobook if only for the pronunciation of Irish names.
Hi Cari! Have you read “a good girl’s guide to murder” by Holly Jackson? It’s mystery/crime. That was the book that took me out of a reading slump last year! Love from Portugal! :)
o m g same! i tried to read another book while in a reading slump and i hated it i couldn’t get through it. but then i picked up a good girls guide to murder and loved it! it was SOO GOOD!!!
I definitely feel the same about Six of Crows! It makes me so happy to hear someone talk about this and also your opinion on King of scars and Rule of Wolves. I also think it was not written out of the same intentions shadow and bone and six of crows were created. On my channel I did an entire video about why I didn’t like the last duology. I like how I continued every characters individual story in my mind and don’t want to destroy this 😅 I really enjoy your videos and you were one on the reasons I started my channel! Hearing that you share my opinion on the fact that six of crows might be continued just makes me very happy 🥰
Renée Ahdieh has written another duology Called Flame in the Mist, it's a Mulan retelling and while it's not the best thing I've ever read and pretty classic YA story, I did really enjoy it
Hi ! I am French and loving your content but for some reason .. your accent is sooo soothing 🤣🤣 your videos are kind of like ASMR but on a subject I like 👍
Oh my gosh! Just started reading the Hawthorne Legacy the day before yesterday. Noooo! Well too late now. I have to finish it. And then patiently wait for the next book. (tap tap tap tap) 🤪
Yesssss i also thought the Inheritance Games was a duology and now aghhhhgggh!!! I am not even going to read the second one right now because i cannot tolerate going back to that story and not finishing it... I will wait till we are more closer to the release of 3rd
It was so cute when cari was guiding us to close our eyes to be safe from the spoiler 😂 "I'll tell you when to open them...don't open them yet...okay now you can open them"
yuus i 101% agree with you on SoC and KoS duology! the same thing that happened to me when i read vicious, i was satisfied with the ending, that i didn't continue with vengful lol (maybe some other time.) so a third book of SoC? tbh, it lowkey scares me LOL. Alsooo, i finished the first three books of The Mirror Visitor, and i am having a major book hangover. it is not spooky, but it def have that studio ghibli vibes and a little of pride and prejudice? cant wait for your next vids!! ♡♡
I thought that Flock and Exodus by Kate Stewart were supposed to be a Duology but thank God for The Finish Line because it revealed some integral information that the first two books lacked to explain the mystery and secrecy behind the brotherhood
I've been getting into duologies more so I was very excited to see your video! I'm currently reading Into the Dying Light which is the last book in the Age of Darkness Trilogy. Ps. This trilogy is fan-freaking-tastic!! Highly recommend
I could listen to you talk about books all day, you have such a way with your words 🌸 You articulated my exact thoughts on The Violent Delights! I didn't really like the story while reading it either but I'm still looking forward to Our Violent Ends. I also feel similarly about the third Six of Crows (which I only got to know because of this video), I think the duology is perfect as it is 🥺
i thought i was the only one, idk why even I thought the Inheritence games series was a duology and had to look it up to see that it was in fact a trilogy.
my favorite dulogy is passenger and wayfarer by alexandra bracken, it‘s genuinely so unique and well-written and i love the dynamics in the second book
Owo I see a Cari reads video right after Coldplay x BTS this is a good morning!!! This Savage Song and the Inheritance Game are going in my tbr, (We hunt the flame is already there) thank you 💖
Nothing to do with this video (although it was great!), but I just bought some Osulloc Moonwalk tea (online order) and, Oh My God! It's amazing and it SMELLS amazing!! Thank you so much for mentioning it multiple times in your videos!!
Read the Raybearer duology by Jordan Ifueko. It is my favourite one this year 🥺💕 I stumble on it in a book club and it needs to be talked about more on the booktube. The second book just came out last month and OMG ❤️😭
I thought too that The inheritance games was a duology! 😅 My reaction was the same at the end of the second book, except the screaming 😂 Now we just have to wait another year… but I read that a series based on the books is already in production and I don’t know how I feel about that 🤔 I just really hope they nail the characters of the four boys 🤞🏻 I feel the same about continuing the Six of crows books. I would read it, of course, but I don’t think it’s necessary. Also, it wouldn’t be the same, because… well, you know why 😔😬
I am honestly laughing really hard that the first one you mention is These Violent Delights. Let me tell you how I had the exact same reaction as your own when I got to the end of the book and went: Ooh, this is so not finished?! And found out it is a DUOLOGY. Lol, WHY T_T I hate starting series that are not finished, it just bugs the hell out of me. Also, all the books you've mentioned (except Crows) are on my TBR list, I even bought the VE Schwab duology couple of weeks ago :D
I recommend Jordan Ifueko's Raybearer + the follow up book Redemptor. I am yet to read the second one, but if its anything like the first, then it'll be really high on my duology favs!
Thank you for the spoiler alert! I recently bought six of crows and I've been super excited for it since I got it 🎉 the whole internal universe thing is still something I don't get but I'm sure I'll get into it at some point 🙈😁
I read Fable & Namesake thanks to you, when you did the recommandation months ago and I loved it! I heard about the Last Legacy but I didn’t know it was in the same world, def will read it!
Not sure this would be your kind of story but Disruption and Corruption is a dystopian duology by Jessica Shirvington that I devoured and love soooooooo much!!
i love how you tried to attempt shahrzad’s name with respect! you were very close 😂 in my culture, it’s pronounced “shar-zaad”. great video as usual ❤️
Another great YA duology is the Between duology by April Genevieve Tucholke! The two books are Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea and Between the Spark and the Burn. It's a great dark, paranormal/urban fantasy with characters I loved. Highly recommend!
a duology i’ve read is “the crown’s game” and the second one is “the crown’s fate” by evelyn skye. really got me back into reading novels during high school. try reading this one :) it’s a historical fantasy with a bit of romance set in russia and follows vika and nikolai, each with their own magical powers. the tsar of russia needs an enchanter by his side russia is being threatened so he starts the crown’s game which is like a duel/test to find the best enchanter so vika and nikolai are to participate in. the victor becomes the imperial enchanter and the loser dies. there are many twists and turns along the way. not a fake a duology. all finished ;)
I actually really love This Savage Song. I read it few months ago. I read it only in 3 days, which is amazing cuz I still had to do school stuff and english is my second language. I hope I can get my copy of Our Dark Duet asap. It's pretty hard to find the second book here :") there are some stores, but expensive af for my student budget
it's 2021 and same - reading six of crows was the first time I really thought about duologies and kind of...recognised them? previously to this year, I hadn't really read any duologies, but now I feel like there are so many that I've read or want to read.
A good (short) spooky book I read was The Tale of Halcyon Crane by Wendy Webb. Ghosts from her past (both real and imaginary) start following Hallie after she gets inheritance from her recently deceased mother, who she had believed to be dead for 30 years. While on the isolated island where her mother lived, she starts remembering things she would have rather stayed forgotten. Very fast read and Hallie is a little oblivious sometimes, but overall I enjoyed it and it’s spookyness factor.
Can't say I go looking for duologies so haven't read many, but I have read The Call and The Invasion by Peadar O'Guilin. They've been out for a while now, but they're good if you like a bit of creepy fantasy. 😊
A great spooky book for October is We Played with Fire! Just read it and loved it, it's based on a true story as well which makes it even more eerie...
I just found your videos and channel and I am so glad I did! I also love space and thought your solar system was sooo cool!! May I ask where you got it???
Loved this video! I just found your channel today and have found this and your other ones like it so entertaining and helpful! I write YA fantasy and am trying to get published for the first time. Maybe someday I'll make it on one of your lists 😃
I know I’m late on the train, just got to this Channel but tbh, loved Six of Crows, but and I’m not entirely sure why, really struggles to read Crooked Kingdom and never finished it
I'm working on a duology, well that term is kind of loose for it, I do have a third book planned but only one character from the first two will be in it, and she is in a different world and the plot won't feel at all like the first two. There will also be a sort of prequel but again following different character, it will be a younger version of the MC's father, and his adventures. At least that's the plan, but hey Six of Crows might be a duology but it's just a selice of the Grishaverse pie, so I think it's fair to call this a duology. (I'm plannint the second one now, editing the first. I firstheard ofduologies with Kim Chance's "Keeper" I think, and The ravens supposedly will be a duology, I doubt those authors would back out on that, Danielle Piage has other books to write, shecan't always be working on whichever of the two witches POV is hers. I kind of would like it to be Vivii, whiever ofthem did Scarle screwed up the first book, I have to hope The Monarchs will erase that mistake somehow. It's possible, but seems unlikely.
No idea if you have read this but "The Hazel Wood" by Melissa Albert is definitely spooky (also a tad bit weird, you will be confused). And I just finished "Winterwood" by Shea Ernshaw (witches, magic woods, a sprinkle of romance and mysterious books) fits for fall but ultimately also a good winter read
This 110%!!
The 3rd Six of Crows book would pick up where Rule of Wolves left off. I think it'd be more of a combination 3rd book for both series
After the fan service that was the KoS duology, I have lost my faith in her 😔 hopefully she’ll come through and give me hope again though
samee but i kinda just want a fluff book with short stories
@@dhruvik1711 that would be so fun
1:20 THE BROOKLYN 99 REFERENCE I LITERALLY LOVE YOU
YESSSSSS!!!!!!
Six of crows duology was definitely my fav of the grishaverse, but I feel like it ended so well that another book would be forced. Don’t get me wrong, I want more of their story, but… the way bardugo ended it felt pretty complete and I feel like anything extra would just be epilogue fan service stuff. Idk 🤷♀️
exaaaactly!
I honestly think duologies are the best way to do a series. Either that or a stand alone. I need more duologies series.
strange the dreamer is a great duology! I finished the first and then read the second all in one sitting till like 3 am. Its a great adventure, the romance is so sweet, and the magic is really cool.
Strange the dreamer is my favorite duology that I’ve read so far! I loved the story and the world so much!
Omg its a duology?!! I totally thought it was a standalone!!
She’s back with the skits 👏🏻 I continue to cackle with pure joy !!
😂 thank you!
Same 😭
24:11 We hunt the flame
19:08 Six Of Crows
My favourite duologues
i love that as a book community, we all thought the inheritance games was a duology. we were all bamboozled
Lovin this video! Duologies don't get enough credit.
I was really shocked when I found out that The Inheritance Games became a trilogy... I can't wait for another year😭
We’re in this together 😭✊

I don't want it a six of crows third book, like you said, the second was one of the best (and heartbroken) endings I've ever read
Exactly🤧🤧🤧
literally get so happy and excited whenever i see one of your vids thank you so much! 💕😭💖
thank YOU so much!!!
I just so happy that we as a book reading society ALL loved the inheritance games
bahahahah yessss!
I just finished reading These Violent Delights. Completely agree with your opinions on the book. Super excited for the second book!
👏👏👏
Is it bad I had to DNF These Violent Delights? 😬😬😬 It was more historical fiction with a monster than fantasy, imo, and as much as I loved roma's cousin and best friend, I really wasn't vibing with Juliette. And I didn't feel the chemistry of the 2 leads. I reeeeeally wanted to love this book.

Highly recommend!
ohhhh looking it up! thank you!
I actually closed my eyes and didnt open them, i'm so proud of myself
In love with your earrings! Do you mind sharing where you got them?
All the stars and teeth duology.
I haven't read the second one yet, but really enjoyed the first.
I finished reading these violet delights in like a week I'm so excited for the second book
a duology i’ve read is “the crown’s game” and the second one is “the crown’s fate” by evelyn skye. really got me back into reading novels during high school. try reading this one :)
it’s a historical fantasy with a bit of romance set in russia and follows vika and nikolai, each with their own magical powers. the tsar of russia needs an enchanter by his side russia is being threatened so he starts the crown’s game which is like a duel/test to find the best enchanter so vika and nikolai are to participate in. the victor becomes the imperial enchanter and the loser dies. there are many twists and turns along the way.
not a fake a duology. all finished ;)
Very fast read and Hallie is a little oblivious sometimes, but overall I enjoyed it and it’s spookyness factor.
after that Jake coolcocococococoolcoolcocool now I wanna watch 99 again thanks cari. I really missed your videos and you
Can't say I go looking for duologies so haven't read many, but I have read The Call and The Invasion by Peadar O'Guilin. They've been out for a while now, but they're good if you like a bit of creepy fantasy. 😊
Creepy fantasy sounds right up my alley!!
tbh i read Our Dark Duet almost four years ago and i still mourn the ending
omg i guess i really do need to read it then!
@@caricanread u really should! that book sealed my love for the duology
I reread it earlier this year and it broke me again
A great spooky book for October is We Played with Fire! Just read it and loved it, it's based on a true story as well which makes it even more eerie...
I just finished reading crooked kingdom, it has the best ending I’ve ever read in a ya book. I’m under Leigh’s bed for ruining it 😤
100%
i absolutely love these kind of videos!!
yay!! thank you!
Love all your recommendations!! ❤️🔥❤️🔥 I’m not looking forward for a third book in the six of crows series 😭
thank youuuu and yeah :''')
