  • I take the Beta 390 RR out into some technical stuff for the first time. While only a short ride I get another chance to test the 390's capabilities.

Hi George, it's a rack and roll brand made in Brisbane I think. Pretty heavy but very strong

Hi Steve, where did you get your carrier on the back of your car from? Is it available for purchase from a supplier?

I'm following in your footsteps shortly Steve & about to order a 2023 390 rr. What's your height & weight? Did the stock springs do the job? Do you think adding a thermo fan is necessary for you?

Hi Phil, great bike mate hope U like it. I'm 95-100kgs and 183cm(6foot) tall. The standard model springs were a bit soft for me mate but I could just get away with it for most situations. If I had of got the racing model I think they would have been fine for me as an intermediate level rider. If your riding a lot of tight hard enduro style riding definitely get the fan they run pretty hot. If it used for fire trails mostly U can probably get away with out it.
      Thanks for watching

Nice Vid, great to see some different shots

Hey Steve, I see your speedo wasn't working (near the end of the vid). Did it fail? I'm considering buying a secondhand 390 here in Brisbane and was curious as to their reliability and longevity. Seeing you own 3 your qualified to answer that. Did you buy the 390 new?
Do you have some of the inherent problems/dislikes of others like...difficult to find neutral, electrical gremlins and the poor fuel capacity & economy?
Also, coming from a DRZ 400 (100kph cruising was annoying), revving way too hard, how do you find the 390 at 100kph? I need to do some highway and bitumen riding and this was a major gripe with the Suzuki. (along with the weight etc etc)
Sorry about all the questions mate.
    Jim

      Hi Again
Yep speedo never worked from day one which is not ideal. Thats the only issue I have had with it however and my dealer will fix it no problem. Yep owned 4 Beta's now and yes I bought the 390 new. Don't have any neutral problems with the Beta but my 2018 KTM has false neutral problems a lot. If I could say this, from 2019 on all the brands are good mate they really are. Just pick a colour you like. You can have issues with any brand and a great trouble free run from any brand. I personally have had a great run from Beta's so that's what I keep buying them. The reason for the 390 was its longer stroking motor so you can ride them a bit lazier. Its the same with the KTM 500 there just a longer stroking motor. Hope this helps
      Regards Steve

      Hi Jim
Yeah I have owned most brand of bikes and I have got to say they are all good but all have there niggles. Beta has had some issues with electrics and speedo's. My experience has been really good and the speedo is the first problem I have had. I did buy this one new and have no complaints about fuel range or finding neutral. The Beta's have a really strong top end so there longevity is no problem, My 480 had done 11,000 Km's and had not missed a beat or been touched. The cruise speed of the 400 DRZ could have been fixed with some different gearing (Front and rear sprokets) as the DRZ's should be really good on the long haul. You must remember the 390 is a race bike so it is geared for enduro racing so mine is geared bit low for highway cruising so I am going to put a front sprocket on with one more tooth. The unique thing with the 390's is there stroke. It is longer than all the 350's and 450's so its an easier bike to ride as it does not need to be revved as much. Thats what the last two videos are about finding out how good the 390 is an an Ultralite ADV bike. All I am going to do is a comfy seat, rack and new front sprocket.
      Regards Steve

there is something rarely mentionned : It is the ability to resist fromp hits abd crashes.. THe 4s beta are really good at that, same level than the Big red pig... I rode with some guys with orange and blue/white bikes ;) and ended heping them fix coolnt hoses, frames, etc... My 390 stood everything possible without any problem, except a dented exhaust pipe when it landed on a cut tree trunk which found a way in between wheel and inside pipe ;) ixed it with some heat and reshape... All good. It played some rocket take off when missing top steep mine climb , some endless falls dow steep hills... Still brilliant, no parts changed. Used to offroad long trips. Sleeping in forest under pooring rain, riding hard in winter sub OC, summer + 40 C... Even the 13 /50 is doable if you join places by small tarmac roads... Sure, on hard single track, you have to manage it, but IMHO the main difference ith 2S is the gyroscopic effect of the 4S. more parts moving. Just have to take the habit o use it to get stability with some revs and clucth use... ANother topic often misunderstood. By example, i fyou practrice super slow 8 full locked, you can save a mistake by more revs, unclutching.
