    I’ve personally owned the Tuareg, Tenere, Norden (std)and trans alp. Tuareg is the absolute best out of the bunch hands down. Better suspension (Equal to the WP xplor), engine is smooth, power delivery is excellent along with fueling, seat is comfortable, chassis is superb, tubeless wheels without the BS sealing band that comes in the KTM/Husqvarna wheels. Also, no extra charge for ride modes, slip adjust, ABS off means ABS off oh yeah and cruise control. Trans alp is a glorified road bike, Norden engine is a rocket ship and the tenere is basically the Honda civic of the ADV bike world. My only issue with the Aprilia is the dealer support network.

    I would not short shrift the Suzuki 800. Yes, it is heavier than the TA and T7, but it has better suspension than both, a fantastic engine and does not feel as heavy as the T7. Plus, it doesn’t have the goofy electronics interface of the TA. All three bikes are as reliable as a hammer.

    It’s not a twin nor sub 200kg but if we are talking “mid sized”’Advs in general then my choice is the Triumph Tiger 900 Rally Pro. All I had to do was add the larger rally pegs and change out the stock hand guards for barkbusters - done. It is an extremely well rounded, versatile Adv/Tourer, very good on and off-road and has all the mod-cons if people want the tech. I get your opinion about plus 200kg bikes being a limiting factor for some people’s skill/strength. It’s not an issue for me though even at very slow speeds negotiating obstacles off-road or to pick up.

  • @titaniumquarrion9838
    @titaniumquarrion9838 4 дня назад

    Gas Gas “fitted” for $23K. Bargain….not. Triumph was/is doing a deal to clear 24 stock. I just got a Tiger 900 Rally Pro in Khaki (which usually costs more than the black or red) with a Akrapovic exhaust worth $2300 pre-fitted in the pricing for $24500. I also have a 500 set up as a light Adv. 15l tank, rear rack, larger pegs and a OEM screen ($75 bucks) and off you go. The RE 450 is an outstanding bike. One that seems to be off people’s radar and another excellent option is the Triumph Scrambler 400X. It has options for a OEM screen (of sorts) and a rear rack. While I think the RE is the better option for range and longer distance highway legs the Scrambler may suit those who want a smaller lighter bike.

    Is hip angle a consideration for you? Tall seat with lower pegs? The T7 felt way better to me ergonomics wise than the 890s for that reason. The T7 just doesn't have those magic 890 tanks that make the 890 perform so well off road. I suppose any bike could have a taller seat fitted.

      Hi, yeah not super concerned about the riding triangle but I do reckon most Japanese bikes feel better than the European bikes. You eliminated the "Norden 901", but you pictured the 'Norden 901 Explorer' - which has very different graphics than the 'Norden 901', and is quite a different bike. Do you dislike the looks of both? Also, you seem to have only considered the KTM 790 / 890 Adventure (NON "R" version), and you pictured the 2022 and earlier model - was this intentional? As for the front end looks, the 2023+ models have a different look - have you considered one of those? And your reasons for eliminating them was you "don't like the fact that there is so much technology put into these bikes", and that you have to pay to unlock it. I would say these reasons are invalid because other bikes you considered in this video are more expensive, AND have lots of technology - which you pay for in their higher prices anyway. So what's the difference? Having ridden many of the bikes you considered in this video, KTM's "technology" is superior and a game changer - you don't know what you're missing until you try it. And I'm used to old school motocross bikes with no "technology". As for the front end looks, the 2023+ models have a different look - have you considered one of those? It sounds like you say many time in the video, "deerer bike" - what is that? And I think your reason for eliminating the Tiger 900 Rally Pro is not reasonable. Have you ridden it? I guarantee you that you can't feel the difference between its 17" rear wheel vs an 18". Tire choice makes a much bigger difference. But the triple motor on the '24 Tiger Rally Pro is soooo smooth, sounds awesome - maybe the best in this category, is comfortable on road, and very capable off-road. And isn't even comparable - in any way to the CF Moto you pictured. I think you place way too much emphasis on the paper specs - especially the weight spec. Every manufacturer weigh their bikes and report that spec differently; curb weight vs dry weight vs wet weight, etc. It's hard to fairly compare printed spec weight accurately. And some bikes are purposely stripped to make the spec lighter, but when you upgrade the stripped parts - like crash bars and skid plate, all the "middle weight" bikes weigh approximately the same. For example, a ready to ride offroad BMW F900GS weighs no less than a similarly appointed Desert X or Tiger 900 Rally Pro. So to fully consider the F900, you need to understand the difference between GS and GSA, AND the 'packages' choices you have to make for each - because you can't just buy a BMW 'base' model - which is what the spec weight is based on. The one that weighs significantly less is the KTM - no crash bars necessary. You narrowed your final two down to the 'lightweight' category T7 and maybe Transalp. IF performance is the primary goal, neither of these bikes compare to the KTM 890 Adventure R. The 890 Adventure R has significantly more power than the T7 AND the best suspension of ALL these bikes. The 890 motor has a wider power band and feels less 'tractor'y than the T7 to me. I think a better strategy for you would be to sell your AJP, and replace it with a high performance dual-sport like a KTM / Husky or Beta 500 - because 690 singles don't do anything really well. Then reconsider getting either a Desert X, F900GS, or Tiger 900 Rally Pro - which are very similar top of the line bikes, except the Tiger has the very exciting triple engine, or an 890 Adventure R - best performance of these top four middle weight Adventure bikes. IF those four are outside of your price range, then consider a 2024+ KTM 790 Adventure, or the lightweight Adventure class - the T7 or the Taureg 660. Between those two I would get the Taureg 660 - better suspension, lower center of gravity, and better appointed. Unless you really like the T7 for whatever reason - then get the T7. I personally don't care for the Transalp looks, specs, or suspension reports, but in all fairness I haven't ridden it. What I have ridden is the Tiger Rally Pro, Desert X, 890 Adventure R, KTM 690, Taureg 660, T7, Africa Twin, and various 500's, and many of my friends have BMW's. All the bikes on your list are potentially fun and you would enjoy any one of them; I just hate to see you make your decision for the wrong reasons - which I've outlined above. good luck

    • @dirtbikeadv
      @dirtbikeadv 4 дня назад

      Hi, yeah the photo of the Norden 901 was the Explorer but in this comparison I referenced all the base models but the photos I want a white background so I searched until I found and appropriate photo sometimes it was last years model or an better version but it was just representative. I agree the 890 2024 models do look much better but still a bit of a praying mantis headlight. Now that the 790 is available in Australia again it is one of the bikes I mentioned I will revisit in 2025 before I make the final decision. I referenced Bike Sales here in Australia for pricing and the KTM and Norden have the highest list price of all the bikes in this comparison. I don't like technology in general on motorcycles in particular traction control and ride modes. A lot of these bikes have both but KTM is the only one charging you extra. This may in fact mean I steer away from the Honda as well. (That's why I ride a PR7) I call them the dearer end of the market meaning more expensive. I am getting a lot positive comments on the Toureg so I am going to find a local dealer and go have a look at one of those. My moto is the lighter the bike the more fun I have. Wheel size makes a huge difference. Try peddling a 27.5 and a 29R mountain bike. The bigger the better for me personally. There is huge range here so nothing is set in stone that is why I have put it out there for some first hand experience. Thanks for your input, Regards Steve

      @tecdive8045 4 дня назад

      @@dirtbikeadv Since there is no one motorcycle that is perfect for everything, I think the goal in a multi-bike garage is for each bike to be different enough to cover as wide a range as possible - at least cover specific categories. Combining that with your motto of "the lighter the bike the more fun", let's analyze a PR7 with either a T7, Taureg 660, or Transalp scenario. The PR7 is a 600cc 168 kg wet weight single cylinder 48 HP bike designed for the person trying to combine two categories - dual sport & Adventure - into one compromised bike. The problem is that at 168 kg it doesn't do dual sport well, compared to a 106 kg KTM 500 EXC-F! And being single cylinder with only 48 HP it doesn't do Adventure well either - especially when compared to a top four multi-cylinder 105 HP Adventure bike. So if you keep the PR7, and get a T7, you get better road comfort from twin cylinders, but you also gain 36 kgs for only 26 more HP for a total of 204 kgs and 72 HP. The Taureg 660 gives you an additional 8 HP for the same weight as the T7, and better suspension. The Transalp gives you 90 HP, but with suspension inferior to the Taureg AND the T7! IF you are getting an adventure bike, I would sell the PR7 and get a lighter more fun 106 kg KTM / Husky or Beta 500 ... AND a 95+ HP Adventure bike with good suspension. This would be a far more useful combo! SAVE 62 kgs ON YOUR DUAL SPORT, and don't worry about weight so much for your Adventure bike. Worry about power, and especially suspension for your Adventure bike, because when you get up to the 200+ kg weight category, you don't really notice weight differences between bikes so much, but you do notice suspension and power big time! I rode a Taureg about a month ago, and it felt gutless - especially on the road. 80 HP is just not enough - at least for me. Good luck

      @@dirtbikeadv peddling a 27.5 vs 29R mountain bike has more to do with gearing than anything. That is why you don't notice a 17" vs 18" rear wheel on an Adventure bike. The 17" rear wheel on the Tiger 900 Rally Pro is calculated into their overall gearing. I believe Triumph does this to work better with their wonderful triple cylinder engine. I have ridden both 17" and 18" very aggressively - you can't tell the difference between the wheels.

    your AJP is not an "Adventure" bike. "Adventure" bikes have multiple cylinders. Since the AJP is single cylinder, it's a "dual sport", just like the KTM 350 & 500, CRF 450RL - all "dual sports" and not "Adventure" bikes. Sure - you can have an adventure on any bike, but words have meaning, and in the case of the "Adventure" motorcycle category, single cylinder bikes don't qualify.

    Exactly - you need to ride them first. Specs mean very little. Going through the same process and narrowed down to Transalp or Desert X. If you ride the Ducati, you will probably want it. It is not top heavy and narrow seat diminishes the 870mm height. (on sale at present too)The transalp feels light also and is a sweet motor. Both bikes have the airbox issue, but to be honest, how often do you need to change them. Pity the Aprilia is a hot box. As of yesterday the head was saying TA (my heart is with Ducati) and disregarded the tube type wheels, as I said I hadn't had a flat in over 20 years. Guess what - this morning go to ride my Metralla and flat tyre. The term unreliable is loosely thrown around at anything not Japanese. As for the KTM camshaft lobes - the problem is the oil pump is too small and will only do it's job at high revs. So can't see that being rectified any time soon. Good luck in your search.

      @@dirtbikeadv I'd actually been quite keen on a PR7 myself when the funds become available, but I've been put off by comments I've heard from PR7 owners. One comment in particular said something along the lines of the PR7 is ok if you're good on the tools or close to a dealer. I'm neither of these to be fair. The nearest dealer is around 3 hours from here. I can do basic maintenance, like servicing, changing tyres, brake pads and wheel bearings etc but beyond that I'm leaving problems for the mechanic. What is your take on this? Yes the T7 is much heavier, but the reliability factor can't be ignored for a mechanical numpty like my self. Bear in mind I also have a Beta 480 for light ADV stuff. TIA.

    Twin cylinder is in its own element for sure when it comes to eating up those long miles! Simplicity, reliability and a balance of comfort & practicality is a challenge to find that balance without a compromise as you know! It would definitely be between the tenereT7 & honda transalp for me! Curious to know what the tenere world raid/rally raid would be like with a lower centre of gravity with the fuel tank design! Can't beat the sound of the tenere twin motor and its reliability! The next 80 percent is dirt, mud, single track and those tanks barely make it, yet you have to "wait up" for them. They didn't care when they were on the hard deck, but now it's a safety issue??? Given the higher rpm needed for most of these 450's on the highway, I reckon a sweet point may be that 500 to 550cc capacity, with slightly taller gearing for those longer highway stretches. That way they'll be a true commuter during the week, and a great lightweight bike for exploring their limits on the weekends. Maybe a Tenere 550 World Raid with 20L of fuel coming in at 195kg and sub $20K would be where I see myself riding in the future, and I reckon the Chinese will have something like that pretty soon...

    Had the first model of the TT350 and loved it. Yes the 12v later version was a slight improvement, but the electrics were still weak, among many other issues. Technology has changed so much, it would be nice if Yamaha could make a modern TT350. Basically a WR350R. The 250's trail bikes are just a little too underpowered, and if made to perform are then too highly strung for long distance adventures. The over 600's are just too heavy for off road single track. So a 350-450 size is the sweet spot for me, but no more than 130kg. KTM350exc is nice, but too highly strung & too little oil & fuel capacity for adventure riding. KLX300 is good, but needs the 350 cylinder & larger fuel tank. CRF300 rally is ok, but could also use a 350 cylinder and better suspension. The old DRZ400 had good power & good oil capacity, but a little heavy & lacked 6th gear. The new DRZ400 is now even heavier & still lacks 6th gear.
