  • This is a tutorial/review of the Commlite ENF E1 Pro adaptor demonstrating how Nikon F mount lenses can be used with Sony E mount cameras.
    I do want to update you on the use of this adapter with newer Sony cameras. I have tried it with newer Sony cameras such as the Sony A7IV and it doesn’t seem to work. I will try finding a firmware update for this adapter, and post my results in this description.

    Thanks for this! Confusing for newbies like me, especially seeing as some say AF support but not for video, which is a strength of the Sony cameras and hence a reason for seeking this kind of adapter.

      Hi, I’m sorry but I cannot recommend this adapter anymore, not only it doesn’t work in video mode but also it only works with older generation cameras up to a7iii, a7riii, a6400 and I believe that’s the case with the Viltrox adapter as well. if you can get native glass even the entry level or third party manufactured still works worlds better than adapted, thanks✌️

    Does the autofocus work in video while not filming ? I've searched all over the internet but no luck to find an answer with this. Nothing detailed what does the focus menu show ? Does it stop working only with the nikon lens or the sigma lens stops working too ?

      Hi, when recording autofocus goes away completely regardless of the autofocus mode, touch to focus and shutter button focus doesn’t work either.
      When not recording the camera will focus when shutter button is pressed/taking photographs, thanks.

    So in your opinion would this be worth keeping to use with a sigma 85mm Art dg hsm on an a7iii for portraits?

      When in good lighting conditions, the adapter yields consistent and decent results. However, if you’re shooting fast paced, you’re pressured by time(events), or shooting in poor lit situations then you may not get the best results with this setup. I used it for events on several occasions, but, as a second lens, along side a 55 Zeiss which was my main and got some nice shots. It all depends on what you need it for, but as a rule of thumb I wouldn’t use an adapted Lens as my only lens for paid events. The Sony 85mm f/1.8 takes amazing pictures and is similarly priced to the adapter, hence it makes more sense in my opinion, thanks 👍

    I've read that the adapter is working with the a7 IV, but only in AF-C, not in AF-S mode. Can you confirm that and tell something about the performance? Thinking about that adapter for my a7R V and a7 IV is the closest generation of the AF algorithm

    • @florinG
      @florinG  3 месяца назад

      At moment the only camera I have available to test it with is zv-e1 my A7iv is not available. As far as compatibility information from the manufacturer they do not mention any Sony camera beyond a7riii/a7iii. When I tested it on my a7iv it did not work. I will update you when I find out more, thanks.

      @@florinG Even better, because your ZV-E1 is the same generation as my a7R V with the same hardware (BIONZ XR and AI processor + same firmware). So if it will work with the ZV-E1 with AF-C at least, it should also work on the a7R V and most likely also other models of that generation. It's said that it will only work exclusively with phase-AF on the a7 IV. The AF-C is pure phase-AF, while AF-S is contrast and phase combined.

    • @florinG

      I have tried it on the ZV-E1 and it does work in continuous AF it's a bit slow but does work it even picks up the eye, but only in photography. when used in video it automatically turns to MF and if try to switch to other focus modes while in video it says !LENS Invalid with this lens. Hope this helps, thanks.

      @@florinG Great news. I've ordered the adapter and will try it with the a7R V, so the big brother of yours. I don't care about the speed as long as it's working (I've heard only the latest firmware slows down the AF). What I'm more curious about is: Does it even focus well at the edges and corners? One general issue with Sony cameras is, that most adapters only focus well in the mid frame/center but don't work in edges and corners. I have a Techart LM-EA9 manual lens autofocus adapter that makes allmost all manual and vintage lenses become autofocus lenses (with limited focus range, so you must prefocus a bit with long (over ~50mm) and wide aperture (depends on focal lengh, Helios 44-2 works perfectly) lenses). It only works in AF-S and AF-C, only in photo mode and only focusing well in the mid frame. Another Viltrox Canon EF adapter also only focuses well in the mid frame. At least even if the Commlight would focus only in the mid frame with my Nikon 135mm F2 DC, it's still somehow usable with the full autofocus range with some limitations. But it would be great, if it works in the edges and corners as well. I really love that DC lens. For now it works almost perfect in the center and very limited focus range with the Techart adapter. Can you please confirm, if the Commlite adapter focuses objects in the corners or at least edges as well?

    • @florinG
      @florinG  3 месяца назад

      @@schildzilla it did glitch on one my attempts to focus in the corner(screen froze, had to turn the camera off), but yes it does seem to focus in the corners, it does it in steps so it's kind of sluggish not instant like with native lenses, probably just as slow as anywhere else in the frame. that techart LM-EA9 is cool will have to try it out one time. At the moment I'm playing with a Megadap ETZ21Pro probably one of the best adapter I have used so far, it allows Sony lenses work almost just as good as native.

    Hi! I bought a Sony a7iii body for my motorsport photography. Would you recommed using this adaptor on a sigma 80-400mm nikon f fit for motorsport photography? Baring in mind id do both following the cars driving past me on track (panning photos) and some detaulrd photos of the cars coming towards me.

      Hi, for your particular need this adapter will not bring you the results you want and I cannot recommend it. I’d look at something affordable from Tamron, Sigma or even better Sony if your budget allows it. Fast moving subjects and adapted lenses don’t go well together, they’re slow, they hunt and occasionally they miss. Best thing to do is go native💯, best of luck👌

    • @florinG
      @florinG  Год назад

      @@alexanderodonnell988 For Nikon-Sony they’re pretty much the same they work, they’re not super reliable, probably the Sigma MC11 is a bit better, but that’s for Canon glass to be used on Sony cameras. Still these adapters can be used for portraiture, landscape or street photography they’re not good for tracking, cheers.

    I have a Nikkor 50mm 1.4g and im getting a sony a7iii was thinking about this adapter is it worth it to keep using that 50 on the new camera?

    • @florinG
      @florinG  2 года назад +1

      The G version should autofocus with this adapter and overall it may work for photography but from my experience it does not for video. Instead of buying the adapter I think you'll have a better experience with 50mm F/1.8 from Sony which is not a bad lens. Unless you still need your Nikon lens it won't be worth the struggle using it adapted, thanks.

      An alternative option is the Sigma 50 mm ART for Sony which could cost a bit more but it's a very good lens.

      Hi, that's strange, I have tested the adapter with several Nikon lenses and also had it on two Sony bodies with similar results. I will try and find out what the issue could be, meanwhile, make sure your is set correctly because if you check the compatibility on their website both the A7RII and the Nikkor 70-200 are on the compatibility list which means they should work without any problem. I would also make sure they are mounted correctly sometimes twisting it a touch more or less aligns the pins, also make sure none of the pins/contacts are damaged, thanks.
