Tascam Portacapture X6 review

This is a review of the new Tascam Portacapture x6 handheld recorder. This recorder is a great choice because it packs a lot of cool features, like 32-bit float, both as a recorder and audio interface, color touchscreen, high-quality built-in condenser microphones, different power options, various record modes, and more. Another minor complaint I have about this recorder, besides the price and ...

Thank you, very helpful
You're welcome!
I saw this later. I have used h4n pro once with a videographer. I could see my mix gain under -6.. I guess I made a mistake by buying h4 essential. Recording my band from mixer is gonna give me trouble. I am playing with it to learn the line in mix Recording without Clipping/bursting 😩
Its such a good looking camera 😍❤️
I have a Sony A6400 and a zoom H8. There is creep on the audio and by 30 sec it’s completely out of sync. Any idea how I can fix this?
Hi, Does the video have its own separate audio?
@ I fixed it! The zoom was recording at the wrong sampling rate
The battery cover for the old PRO is the worst thing ever. this little plastic pin breaks itself! I already broke 2 of them! Godox should give 5 battery covers as a free gift!
The screen on my version got scratched just by having it a drawer, they’re capable devices but the quality just isn’t there 👍
so, What's the best 50mm for low light made by Sony? and very good for videographers?
My pc didn`t see Zoom H4N pro. I download drivers
You may need to try another USB cable or port, thanks.
❤️❤️❤️
The worst H4 essential. Lot of backround noise
The most reputable source of information about recorder self noise is on the Avisoft site. They have a huge list of meticulously tested recorders. They list the H4N as -107dBu. The H4essential is measured at -120dBu which is significantly better. I don't have the H4essential but I do have the H1 XLR and that claims -122dBu, which is very slightly better than the H4essential. And as far as I have been able to test, it is in real world use noise free.
Awesome video!! Thank you for this
thanks
V1 or Pro V1. I am so poor to put myself on decision Lmao
I own both and although the pro has some improvements, they are not groundbreaking or something I could not live without, if you need slightly faster recycling times and slightly better thermals the get the v1 pro but for me the improvements are sort of expensive to be worth it, if you don’t need the flash on top of the camera and use off camera flash more the ad200/200pro is probably better. Ultimately the most important things to consider is what you need from your flash, your stile and budget, thanks.
This doesn't work any more. You can just rename the file as "mp4" instead of "mov" :)
Hi Florin I have a quick question: I got the xPro Trigger and the TT-685SII, but I'm having trouble setting the flash to slave mode. I can't seem to switch the mode from Rx to slave on the flash. Do you have any ideas about what I might be doing wrong? Thank you! 🙌
Hi, sorry for the late reply. So depending on the software version, slave is differently labelled, but in your case Rx is the slave mode, it is also easily recognised by an amber screen, thanks 👍
Thanks for the quick video. Do you know how to change the zoom on the security nd flash?
Hi, from a master flash you cannot change zoom of slaves, you can however when using a transmitter/ controller, thanks.
When I put the flash facing up the lens mm doesn’t show up. Does that even matter?
Hi, usually flashes when positioned vertically automatically adjust their zoom to the widest setting. Some flashes represent that with a number others don’t, so, no it doesn’t really matter so long they do go to a wide setting because that usually allows a good light spread, thanks.
@@florinG Thank you
Try changing the extension of file to mp4 , it worked for me so you can also try your luck :)
you should also test the light gathering in dark scenarios, its very important spec for weddig photography and could easyly justify 40% higher cost
Hi, I will consider doing that next time thanks
Hello~ the Sennheiser me2 says 10v. and I has to choose 24v. for it to work, is this going to damage the mic phone im long term?
Hi, personally I’d find a way to power it within its requirements.luckily I never personally damaged any mics, even though I have worked with many types over the years, so I cannot say with 100% certainty if they do get damaged or not, but if there’s a risk then why take it? The best piece of advice I can give you is email the manufacturer customer support ( in your case Sennheiser) regarding your query and surely one of their engineers will be happy to help. If you need help adapting 3.5mm TRS to XLR use a Rode XLR plus/pro they have a converter built in, cheers.
Thank you so much
No problem👌
thank you for this - how do I get the colored filter out!
If you have it in the holder then you need to twist and push it out, thanks.
Hello, first of all, thank you for all the content you share. One thing regarding this GODOX XPRO II, the modeling icon that usually appears at the bottom right does not appear. Why could that be? Thanks in advance and greetings from Spain.
Hi, thanks for stopping by. The icon can disappear when when all groups have been selected and the lamp has been turned off for all. To bring it back on, deselect any group by pressing the ok/ confirmation button and it should appear again. When its back on the screen double press it so that it will show two dashes (- -), after that, select the group you want to control and press the lamp button again now it should show a percentage (XX%) using the scroll wheel you can adjust the percentage to whatever value suits your need. Pressing the button will change to prop/ proportional to the output power, pressing once more turns it off again indicated by two dashes. Deselecting the group and pressing the lamp button again makes all dashes disappear, and you're back from the start. Hope this helps, thanks and best of luck.
For off camera (I will use godox softbox), which one to choose?
Hi, do you have a light or you plan to get one ? What sort of scenario/type of photography do you plan to use it for?
Hello . Regarding sync between the xpro2 and the l858d can I adjust power control from the xpro2 and it will sync with the Sekonic. Or is this mode the same as the app mode? I prefer setting power with the xpro rather than the lightmeter. Thank you
Hi, I’m not shure I forgot, I’ll try it and come back to you, thanks.
@@florinG I tried it and it looks like it's the same mode as App. I wish it was bidirectional (change settings from either the Sekonic or the XPro)
When you put it down, your (Sony?) camera saw the brand and refused to focus 😂 P.s. very nice unboxing video! 😊
Yeah I filmed it with an a7iv 😅 Guess Sony doesn’t like Nikon.
Thanks for a fairly comprehensive video At one level an amazingly sophisticated controller but not for the faint hearted. And arguably more complex than it needs to be for many users. I didn't see discussion on clarifying a compatible Godox transmitter is required for YOUR camera. Subscribed!
Thanks 👌

Hey, i'm new in photography. Is it compatible with sony a7cii?
Hi, if it’s made for Sony and the camera has a hotshoe then yes it should work, however it’s best you check compatibility with Godox or Sony support because newer cameras can be made incompatible through software or like the case of my zv-e1 it syncs only up to 1/30.
Looks like the cameras focusing isn't that good
Yes it did struggle slightly I don’t know why, I recorded that with a Sony A7IV. Although it is a decent camera I don’t think I’m going to keep it😄
That's interesting b/c sony is known to have the best autofocus.i have a Panasonic s5ii and I'm very happy with it.
Another great review! Very useful, detailed, unbiased... I'm gonna subscribe. Oh, could you tell us which lens you used for the last shots of the two lenses, those around 15:06? It has a crazy amount of loca, it's kind of worrying
Thanks, I Used the Sonnar T* FE 55mm F1.8 ZA lens.
Very nice, detailed, and unbiased review! It's so rare these days!
Thanks👌
very nice technical review! great job!
Thanks! 👍
work also with a phone as a camara ? pluging in a MPC as an example ?😅 🙏🏼
Thank you very nice video dear
You’re welcome 👍
Аdobe is a little indie company...
Not sure what camera you use, but determining the sharpness difference in two GM lenses would require a 50MP sensor at least, maybe even the 61MP sensor of the a7rv. Any less and the lens sharpness will be finer than the pixel resolution and you won't be able to tell the difference. If you see differences it is more likely to be the effect of a slight focus miss. in the corners you may be able to see differences on lower MP sensors Great video! thank you

So I’m a noob on audio and recently purchased the ride wireless go 2. I have a simple question that I’m having difficulty getting an answer to. Should I always plug the ride wireless into the camera port? I saw a video editor say it was best to have audio on the ride and on the camera itself. If I plug it in then I’m only using the rode wireless correct and audio saving to the SD card on the camera or both the rode wireless go 2 and the camera along with video? I need to know this to help find the audio in editing. Thanks for any help and I’m happy to get this answered by anyone. Thanks
Hi, yes recording audio in camera will make it easier when you edit. If you want to record on the transmitter at the same time however you need to enable that feature because it’s not on as default, cheers.
For some reason, with the camera volume 1, it was so quiet the camera barely picked up any sound.
I guess you have to experiment and see what works best with your particular setup. When I made this video I used a Sony a7iii and that level produced the best result, thanks.👌
@florinG it worked with volume 60 mic 60 😊
Great vid, just one question, will using 48V phantom power with the VXLR & Wireless Go ii damage the Wireless Go ii?
Hi, that may potentially add noise, but don’t think it will cause damage to it, thanks.
I have the same set up but when I connect to the app the units (groups) does not show on the Home Screen. Is there any extra steps I need to take ?
I'm looking at this or possibly the H1-XLR
I’ll be honest it’s just sitting in my drawer haven’t played with it much, some complain that the preamps are no better than those of the h4n Pro, but even so it is improved over the h4n pro in other areas, so I think it’s a good buy. I’ll be making a video about it soon, cheers.
Can you make guide how to link them to x1 trigger , x2 trigger , x 3 trigger ?
I’ll consider it, thanks.
Could you do a video on how to connect it to a camera with the XLR microphone
Hi, do you mean connect to a camera that’s equipped with xlr ports?
@@florinG yeah like a H4N connect it to a MKE 600 then a 3.5mm TRS six cable to the back of the H4N then the other end of the cable to the microphone slot
@@eontiveros32yes, actually I made a video like that, follow this link : ruclips.net/video/8cmUnHKdJy8/видео.html .
@@florinG if I were to connect some headphones to the H4N would that be the exact sound once I post it to RUclips or would it change after I post it?
In my case for voice recordings( dialogues etc) for the most part it sounds the same, but there is a compression when you render your audio and there’s a compression from RUclips as well. Rendering AAC 320kb/sec usually sounds good. I’d say experiment with a a few samples, and if you’re dissatisfied, then you could explore this topic more, as well as lossless rendering/mastering etc.
Hi, great video. So to use it as an audio interface you connect the usb c on the tascam to the usb c on the camera?
Hi, don’t think it’s designed to work like that. I’m not saying it doesn’t work, because I haven’t tried it but it’s very unlikely. If it was meant to work that way then Tascam would be the first to mention it, as far as I’m aware it can only be used as an audio interface with mobile phones/tablets or pc/mac, thanks.
Thanks so much this was great 😁
No problem 😊
V1 it is. Thank you for this comparison.
Excellent review! You should have more subscribers! I subbed.
Thanks 👍
thanks, that was really helpful! and some of the comments, too!
Thanks 👌
Very informative❤👍 Can you confirm if the Sekonic lightmetre syncs only with the one model mentioned in the menu(L 858) or it works with other Sekonic lightmeters too ?
Hi, yes that’s the only one compatible ( second version) as far as I’m aware. It syncs with the Seconic L858 provided the L858 is equipped with a Godox module, thanks.
@@florinG thank you for your kind response ❤️ One more request 😀 Shall I keep that Legacy option in the X Pro II N, "On" or " Off" ?
@@ranjankmsphotography for regular use , I would keep it off, keeping it on disables TTL, and HSS. Now you may be wondering when should you turn it on. You may need it on for fast repetitive burst shots or with cameras that have no Multi Interface hot shoe. In other words most of the times you don't need it on, thanks.
@@florinG Well explained 👍 Now it's absolutely clear to me 😀 I will use X Pro II N with my D850 & Z9, so most if the time I will keep it off only. Thanks a lot ❤️
Extremely helpful after hours of searching online. Old sony i didnt have to turn wl on
Thanks.
