Dude, the Yuuzhan Vong are in the top three coolest factions of the SW universe. We need an entire series on them, the Infinite Empire, and the Ancient Sith Empire!
The Vong are terrible villains. They're boring and cliche, and they don't fit in with Star Wars at all. They're far more like Star Trek or 40K villains.
Renegade Brigade But they don't match the tone or feel of Star Wars. I also don't see the urgency. Even reading the series as a kid, the fact that the Vong have immunity to the Force and lightsabers felt like bad writing. Instead of building up an enemy naturally, in a way that feels genuinely threatening, the writers just make them immune to the good guy's weapons, so I knew that they were going to curbstomp The New Republic until the writers decided that it had been long enough and gave the Jedi a way to beat them. It's lazy writing. If the Vong weren't so obviously written to be a rock paper scissors counter to Jedi, the war between them would have been a lot more interesting. The outcome of battles was never in doubt, because it's clear to the reader when it's time for the Vong to win, and when it's time for the Jedi to win, so there was never any tension. The battle of Hoth is effective because, though the Empire seems incredibly powerful, they're not magically resistant to all of the Rebel's weapons. The Rebels could theoretically push back the Imperial attack, or be utterly destroyed. Because the audience doesn't know what's going to happen, it's engaging, and the actual outcome of a costly but successful retreat feels earned. I suppose it's not that the Vong are by themselves that bad, it's that they don't fit into the Star Wars IP, and that they were the villains of a really shitty series. With better writers, the Vong could be great villains in Warhammer 40k.
@@ThejollyFrenchman entirely disagree, the Vong are definitely a lazy writing tool for next big bad guy but saying they dont fit the cannon is just ridiculous.
They are the most interesting villains in Star Wars. They are what we think of aliens. Star wars needs this. These guys are savages something the empire truly feared. The Yuuzhan Vong, Star Wars’s version of Orcs and Uruk-Hai from LOTR. They’re such a horrifying species in Star Wars Legends, hellish and brutal in combat and appearance.
The Yuuzhan Vong was one of the best creations of the Expanded Universe, as it gave the Jedi a real threat which couldn't be dealt with through typical means (no Jedi mind tricks, for example).

Though it is now Legends material, the fall of Chewbacca to the Vong is one of the most memorable SW literature moments for me. The selfless sacrifice and defiance Chewie showed was incredible and the author painted an incredibly vivid picture. Would love to see a video on this. Keep up the great work SW Theory, recently discovered your channel and I’ve been binging your videos.
Great video. For me, Legends or the EU as we called it is the true lore. I personally do not recognize Disney's Canon. In my opinion this is the greatest story out of all of it. The New Jedi Order series, the Yuuzhon Vong storyline the great characters of Legends came into their own during that storyline and the enemy picked was unlike anything in Star Wars or sci fi in general I'd ever seen it was so original and the stories were so well written, so all encompassing and awesome. Thanks for taking me back for bit.
They only lightly tie in to the Yuuzhan Vong war, but would love to see some content about Wraith Squadron. I find them particularly interesting because I feel like their earlier stories could realistically slot right into the current cannon with not that many changes if Disney chose to do an adaptation of some sort.
I would love to see a Yuuzhan Vong breakdown of the Slayers...The genetically altered warriors created to take out the Jedi. I remember in the story that the Vong leader put on a demonstration and one of the Slayers took down like 10 Vong Warriors without breaking a sweat.
I've read every book about the Yuuzhon Vong invasion. But, this vlog told me things I never really got from the books. The Vong seem to make much more since now, creepy and gross, but I can understand how and why they think the way they do. I gotta subscribe just to see how many things I've overlooked. Thanks. Keep it coming!!
I remember reading this when I was young. It legitimately scared me. And it seemed impossible for our heroes to overcome this threat to the Galaxy. I need to re-read it again

Андрей Шурочка OP is referring to the Grisk; it’s literally a neutered version of the Yuuzhan Vong. Their culture has been stripped away in the Disney canon and they now use conventional technology
The Grisk are fundamentally different than the Vong. The only thing that makes them *at all* similar is they are a threat from the Unknown Region that the Chiss really don't like. They are also way more interesting than OP ass HERP DERP NO FORCE WORKS ON ME
I'm guessing the Purrgil took Ezra and Grand Admiral Thrawn, into the unknown region of space where they would come to terms with their situation and learn about the Yuuzhan Vong, about who they are and their intentions of invading the Galaxy. I think that's where Ahsoka and Sabin come, in the upcoming Ahsoka TV series where they try to locate Ezra. After years of searching, Ahsoka uses the world Between worlds as a final ditch effort to find him, it eventually leads her into the unknown region of space where Ahsoka will find Ezra and Thrawn, may be in the Chiss home world battling the Yuuzhan Vong for years and Ezra learning battle tactics, fighting skills from Thrawn and Ezra eventually becoming close friends with Thrawn. They would gather years of knowledge on how to defeat the Yuuzhan Vong, but they would eventually loose the battle against them, may be Thrawn dying in the process in a desperate attempt to hold off the invading Vong as his people the Chiss, Ezra, Ahsoka and Sabin Escape back to Lothol through the use of the world between world's portal. They would then take their findings and the Chiss refugees to the New Republic to prepare for an Invasion. This I think would lead into the next trilogy of movies which would be the Yuuzhan Vong Invasion.
Hey star wars theory! I love your videos and your in-depth explanations of lore and legends! Thanks for being you and may the force be with you, always.
The New Jedi Order series was one of my favorites. The firs Novel alone was excellent. My only complaint about this series was the death of Chewbacca. Although it did take an entire moon to fall on our favorite wookie to kill him.
Among the events that happened in the post-Return of the Jedi galaxy in Star Wars before Disney were: * Thrawn's invasion, the births of Jacen Solo (future Darth Caedus), Jaina Solo, Anakin Solo and Ben Skywalker and the creation of the New Republic and New Jedi Order. * The return of Emperor Sheev Palpatine/Darth Sidious and the formation of the Dark Empire as well as their destruction. * The Yuuzhan Vong invasion. * The formation of Roan Fel's Galactic Empire. * The emergence of A'Sharad Hett/Darth Krayt and the New Sith Order. * The Second Galactic Civil War after the creation of the Galactic Alliance/Galactic Federation of Free Alliances. * The Sith-Imperial Civil War and the creation of A'Sharad Hett/Darth Krayt's Galactic Empire as well as its subsequent destruction and replacement by the Galactic Federation Triumvirate. Additionally Darth Nihl's plans for Sith cells to infiltrate the government of the Galactic Federation Triumvirate.
I remember reading "Star By Star" for the first time and being absolutely floored by how crazy and epic it was. Lot of people hated on the EU and the Vong in particular, and certainly there were bad books and plot lines, but for kids obsessed with Star Wars the EU was awesome.
There needs to be several movies made featuring these fellas. In Star Wars Legends, when these guys invaded the galaxy in 25 ABY (After the battle of Yavin) they immediately began wrecking havoc wherever they went. Within a few weeks of the initial invasion, the planet of Sernpidal , which is located in the Outer Rim, was destroyed when the Vong used a Dovin Basal to crash Sernpidal’s moon into the planet. This of course killed nearly every living thing that was on the planet at the time. Unfortunately, one of the victims was ChewBacca, who fell behind after rescuing Han Solo’s son Anakin Solo. And that was just the beginning. By the time the war was over and the Vong had been forced to head back to the Unknown Regions, 365 trillion beings were dead. Several species of sentient beings were completely wiped out during the war, with the most memorable being the rabbit like Gerb and their neighbors, the serpentine Slith, both of whom were native to Yavin 13. They got along very well with each other and other species (at least to my knowledge) That is until the Vong decided to go on a murderous rampage through the entire Yavin system. All life on Yavin 13 was destroyed.
Wait, what? Chewie dies? I was just beginning to get attached to him. Good comment - I know next to nothing about the Vong. Is your comment sourced from the 14-book “The New Jedi Order” or from somewhere else?
When I heard about the sequel trilogy, I naturally thought they were going to cover the Vong. I was immediately disappointed when I read the opening scroll as it made absolutely zero sense. Was left even more disheartened when I watched the movie and it turned out it was just a shot for shot remake of a new hope with a mcguffin plot device thrown in.
@@Bauglir100 First, I said when I HEARD there was gonna be a sequel trilogy. This is well before any promotional videos were shot. None of the promotional videos gave away the plot(the ones I saw anyway). They insinuated Finn was going to be a trooper turned Jedi but not much else. Nothing showed jt would be a shot for shot remake of A New Hope. They kept Rey being the main protagonists a secret, they could have easily done the same thing with the new villains of the trilogy.
Please talk about Palpy and Grand Admiral Thrawn and how they might have known of this threat. Also would love a video covering the ACTUAL children of the Solos and Akywalkers, and their adventures during this war
I think Thrawn hinted about them, at least in the Heir to the Empire comics. It seemed to be his justification to Sidious for wanting to serve in the Empire.
I would be down exploring the sinister alien species literature and revisiting Yuuzhan Vong War. Although for Disney's standards that's way more ambitious for their creativity

What the sequel trilogy should have been. Sure it would have gotten backlash, but not the same level as The Last Jedi.
I agree with you , I want to see the Yuzhan Vong on the big screen.
I agree and they could have went into the legacy of the force, with the Solo twins.
Totally should’ve been the sequel trilogy.
When you think about it what is the story line? I have been so confused as to what the actual story is, and the direction they want to go in.
Soundwave 84 anything gets backlash just the nature of things
The Yuuzhan Vong, Star Wars’s version of Orcs and Uruk-Hai from LOTR. They’re such a horrifying species in Star Wars Legends, hellish and brutal in combat and appearance.
Insert Isengard theme on Vong.
They remind me of the Zerg

Wow. There are really scary things to encounter even in the SW universe
They remind me of the falmer from Skyrim
Good comparison
They remind me of the Daedra, maybe a mix of them and the Falmer
The Chitin armor Falmer has is highly reminiscent of Yuuzhan Vong armor, too.
Skyrim: Can I copy your homework?
SW: Yeah, just change it up a bit so it doesn't look the same.
Skyrim: Suuuure...:
Give this man a trilogy!
*Zonama Sekot:* * *_looks at the crazy shit the Vong are partaking_* * Ight imma head out
The Yuuzhan Vong was one of the best creations of the Expanded Universe, as it gave the Jedi a real threat which couldn't be dealt with through typical means (no Jedi mind tricks, for example).
You forgot to mention how the new version of the Yuuzhan Vong, the Grysk, are coming after Episode 9. People who have read the Thrawn novels will know, and I think you did a video about the Grysk, but most people don't know about them.
Honestly, having Luke and a Gray Jedi Order fighting against the Vong for a trilogy would have been better than what we got. Stays close to Legends, respects the OT cast, and maintains the balance Vader brought.
So many people don't know about them. Thank you for making this video. Hopefully this brings them to more people's attention, because they are CHILLING!
The Orcs of Mordor have become Star Wars Canon! Lol
T-G_STEVE This is no gaggle of mindless Orcs... these are Yuzhan vong... their blades are sharp, their armor thicc and their shields broad!
yea, u goin kinda ham rn. Orcs are quite pathetic in most cases. These jokers travelled MILLENIA to reach the SW galaxy...
Orcs would become a slave race of the Vong
@@JuggernautDr Not Dol Guldur Orcs lead by Azog and the Gundabad Orcs from the Hobbit. They were both significantly larger and stronger than even Uruk Hai, while also being significantly better armored and equipped than the orcs during the War of The Ring era.

Excellent run down. Watched a few lote videos on the Vong now, but this one definitely had the most detailed information.
"Yes, of course I have heard of Yuuzhan Vong!!! I am planning to wear a Yuuzhan Vong dress to the Oscars this year!!!!"
-Kathleen Kennedy
So she's going to the Oscars in her birthday suit?....eww
I don’t see Disney ever using these guys without toning them down.
A lonely Wookie, roaring in defiance at a falling moon
This would have been a way better story for a trilogy than the crap we got from Disney
Legends: New republic screwed up with empire remnants and was completely destroyed by vongs
Canon: empire remnant instantly destroyed new republic
should have been the damn enemy for this trilogy..
Oh here's the Yuuzhan Vong video! Awesome!
They only lightly tie in to the Yuuzhan Vong war, but would love to see some content about Wraith Squadron. I find them particularly interesting because I feel like their earlier stories could realistically slot right into the current cannon with not that many changes if Disney chose to do an adaptation of some sort.
It would be so sick if they were adapted into canon. They’d be like the Chitauri of the Star Wars universe, and they could expand it even further
I’ve literally always wanted to hear ur take on the vong since I discovered the new Jedi order, dead ass just 2 nights ago I was looking if u made one at some point that I missed, then I shit myself when I saw the notification

I believe Rian Johnson said there will be no lightsabers, Sith, or Jedi in the new trilogy.

Disney: the vong invasion never happrn
Also disney: let's bring back the Yuuzhan Vong
uhmm, they didn't bring them back
Андрей Шурочка OP is referring to the Grisk; it’s literally a neutered version of the Yuuzhan Vong. Their culture has been stripped away in the Disney canon and they now use conventional technology
@@EricGraham94 they also not from another galaxy, so it is just another species from Unknown Regions
The Grisk are fundamentally different than the Vong. The only thing that makes them *at all* similar is they are a threat from the Unknown Region that the Chiss really don't like. They are also way more interesting than OP ass HERP DERP NO FORCE WORKS ON ME
Disney reminds me of that spoiled and ungrateful rich kid at school who had more toys than he knew what to do with, but wouldn't share.
I love the longer videos you have been posting! Keep up your hard work. It is greatly appreciated!!!!!!
This would be an awesome plot. It would be cool on film.
The Vong are one of my favorite powers in all of Star Wars.
Your work is incredible, thank you so much for those wonderful videos I would like to learn more about the yuuzhan vong
The Yuuzhan Vong Arc is definitely one of the best and most intense in the Star Wars Universe.
Better than Anakin's Arc; it features Darth Krayt and his new Sith Order ffs.
It’s been a long time since I last heard about them, I love legends thank you George Lucus!

The New Jedi Order series was one of my favorites. The firs Novel alone was excellent. My only complaint about this series was the death of Chewbacca. Although it did take an entire moon to fall on our favorite wookie to kill him.

Among the events that happened in the post-Return of the Jedi galaxy in Star Wars before Disney were:
* Thrawn's invasion, the births of Jacen Solo (future Darth Caedus), Jaina Solo, Anakin Solo and Ben Skywalker and the creation of the New Republic and New Jedi Order.
* The return of Emperor Sheev Palpatine/Darth Sidious and the formation of the Dark Empire as well as their destruction.
* The Yuuzhan Vong invasion.
The vong were freaking awesome
I remember reading "Star By Star" for the first time and being absolutely floored by how crazy and epic it was. Lot of people hated on the EU and the Vong in particular, and certainly there were bad books and plot lines, but for kids obsessed with Star Wars the EU was awesome.
I need an R rated ‘Star Wars Story’ of this
I've been waiting for you to cover this it was perfect
Do a thing on Nom Anor or Tsavong Lah. I particularly like Anor's design. He looks quite spooky.
@@ronjon7942 From various sources actually.
So I’m guessing you didn’t bother watching the trailer or looking at any tie-in or promotional material before you went into the movie?
@@Bauglir100
First, I said when I HEARD there was gonna be a sequel trilogy.
@@matthewsmith1779 Good point. I would’ve loved to see the Yuuzhan Vong too.

I think Thrawn hinted about them, at least in the Heir to the Empire comics. It seemed to be his justification to Sidious for wanting to serve in the Empire.
So the green goblins cousin is finally getting some screen time of his own.

As much as I love the Vong as antagonists, I truly hope Disney keeps their shitty hands off of them. Anything they touch from the old EU is just a bastardized, soulless husk of what they used to be.
The Vong would have been a great antagonist for the newer movies...provided they were kept true to what they were in the EU and not watered down.
Too late, they already created the "neff" version of them in Disney Canon...
Nothing is sacred anymore...
