The BEST Campervan Shower Method...

  • It's finally time to waterproof our shower - our flat-pack, partial shower cubical that is. Instead of using heavy tiles and sealant in our van conversion, we opted to go with tanking, since we think it would be easier for our recirculating shower.

      The shower is a tricky one, there's actually quite a bit you need to know at the framing stage. The shower is the 1 thing we have quite a few upgrade ideas that we would do next time in the building stage. Make sure you have solid framing for the base and walls and think about leaving space for your pipes to actually get your water into the shower. As for the tanking, it works in houses, and at the moment, we still think it's the best thing we could have done for waterproofing. 👍

      Semi squishy yeah, but waterproof, and they are very lightweight! Time will tell of they can handle everyday knocks and such 👍

    Great that the tanking has held this long, what about the foamy waterproof tile-like membrane, did it stick long term? were there bubbles after a while from expansion due to severe heat or breakage? is it a very good waterproof material and would you recommend it? I am looking for the best final membrane after the tanking that would stand the test of different weather conditions.

    • @memyselfwhaa6341

      I've used something similar in a bathroom. Don't just rely on the sticky backing, use extra adhesive, especially around the edges. If you apply a thin coat of epoxy resin as well, it should make them more durable without adding much weight.

    • @FreedomStrider
      @FreedomStrider  20 дней назад

      They held fine (until we got cats who promptly started climbing the foam and your it to shred 😝)... but regardless I would recommend going with thin plastic. You can get cool tile or brick like patterns in pvc and that is much more durable.

    • @FreedomStrider

      Later on in the year, we are out on the road now and will be designing the shower as we travel. We'll need to do some upgrades and renovations to the shower compartment as well. So it's going to be a long process 😊

    Have you tried out your radiant floor yet? Was wondering how that went because I'm thinking about buying the Espar S3 too. Not sure it is sized to handle the floor in addition to everything else.

    • @FreedomStrider
      @FreedomStrider  2 года назад

      So far, the radiant floor has worked great! The Espar heater can handle heating our floor and the air at the same time without issue (we haven't tested the water heating yet). From what we've heard, the water heating takes the most heat out of the glycol loop.
      It takes around 5 minutes for hot air to come out the matrix, and within 15-30 minutes, the floor is noticeably warmer, and the longer we keep it on, the more evenly the heat spreads.
      Soon we are going to do a fuel efficiency test on how much fuel the heater actually uses (with and without the underfloor being on) so that'll be interesting to see if it makes a difference. 👍
