I’ve only just found your channel. The cabin crew films are great & the Grounded series is pure brilliance. I am blown away by your amount of research, the clear presentation of the information & the breadth of your knowledge. It’s very akin to my aviation fetish. I’m happy to know there’s still a few of us out there. You have an incredible gift for public speaking.
Great episode. Flew with Futura in 1997 (morning that princess diana died) from Man to LPA. 737-400 was SE-DRR, looked a heap from outside. Old Futura livery with logos scrubbed off the Nordic European titles added. Irish flight deck and Spanish Cabin crew. Some kind of engine trouble as landed - lurched from side to side with the engine howling! No explanation given but was pleased to be on the ground. Proper Futura bird on the way back, Service was Ok - in line with Britannia and Dan Air of the 80’s but missed the 90’s touches including IFE.
Thanks Gordon, I remember that day well (we went and watched the ice hockey that evening, Manchester Storm vs I think Sheffield Steelers, then started my first day at high school the next day). It looks like SE-DDR was one that bounced around a lot with Futura placing it with at least 8 airlines numerous times over the years that they had it. It's an interesting story, thanks for sharing it :)
Always get nostalgic watching this video series! Rememner seeing Futura at PMI when I went on holiday as a kid; never flew with them (we almost always flew with Air 2000) but did like their interesting tail design - very memorable. Great video and love the amount of research put into this. Look forward to the next!
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it :) I used to fly with Air 2000 quite a bit when I was younger (as well as Airtours, Flying Colours and Monarch), I remember seeing Futura at Manchester but never really knowing much about them other than them being Spanish so I learned quite a bit when researching this episode :)
As expected, it was definitely worth the wait! Really enjoyed it as always. Futura was an airline I remember seeing around when on holidays, but never really took much notice. Never knew about their connections with Aer Lingus though, that was very interesting (same with Pegasus)
Thank you, I'm very glad that you enjoyed it :) Yes I too remember seeing Futura around but didn't take much notice either, aside from them being a Spanish airline everything else I learned when researching the episode :)
Hi there, its me again. Still nice to see a new grounded episode for what it feels like a eternity, good quality as usual, and i have a sense of pride when you mentioned the fact that Merpati and Garuda had planes leased from Futura for a bit, makes me feel like you should do a video on Bouraq Indonesia, Sempati or Mandala, both airlines that hadn't been covered as much as other Indonesian airlines in English (mainly Lion and Garuda that are covered somewhat). Btw... Do a episode on Grounded including 2-3 airlines, mainly for smaller airlines that have quite short of a lifespan. I don't really expect you to do it, just for the simple reason you obviously have to focus on real life, anyway: have a nice day.
Hi, I'm very happy that you enjoyed this episode :) I actually have Bouraq on my "to-do list" as it caught my attention a while back as it shares a name with one of my favourite local restaurants. Doing an episode that covers 2-3 smaller airlines is an interesting suggestion, I will see what I can do. I do have a few airlines "out east" such as Bouraq, Orient Thai / 1-2-Go, Adam Air on my list, hopefully I can make progress on them soon :) Take care :)
Great to watch this episode! Reminds me of being at Toulouse Blagnac waiting for my ZB flight and seeing the Futura flight to Palma being listed with designator FU2, thinking no way could that be right!! Anyway thanks for the through episode - hope you’re enjoying flying again too!! :-) You gonna try to tackle Monarch or TCX btw..?
Haha perhaps someone had a sense of humour ;) I'm glad you enjoyed this one. Yes I am still trudging through all of the administrators paperwork for both Monarch and TCX but I feel like I am finally "getting there" so hopefully can start making real progress on them. As for the flying, yes I'm enjoying being back in the air though right now we are being worked really, really hard with just minimum rest between flights (or minimum plus 20 mins etc...) which makes researching and writing episodes tough to squeeze in - but I'm getting there ;)
Hi, thanks for watching :) I am working on both at the minute alongside several other airlines, I hope to have at least one of the two out this year :)
I'm midway through researching Freddie Laker's airlines, as I don't want to rush and miss something important. I have done quite a bit of work on Family Airlines too, I held off writing a script as believe it or not but they looked like having a revival so wanted to see how that went to give a full story :)
Yes I have an episode script in the very early stages on Go Fly, it's a little bit complicated right now though as I am currently working for team orange :/ I do honestly recommend reading a book called "Go! An Airline Adventure" which was written by the former CEO and is an excellent read with far more detail than I could cram into a short episode :)
Just watched your video about the collapse of the original Compass Airlines in Australia. Flew with them a few times and really loved them. Excellent aircraft and an extremely friendly crew with impeccable customer service. Was really saddened by what happened to them. Especially the treacherous treatment they received from our rotten Federal Government and the dirty tricks inflicted on them by Ansett. Pretty much what British Airways did to Richard Branson's Virgin Atlantic when they first started up. Covered in great detail in the book Dirty Tricks by Martyn Gregory. Worth the read!! This all leads me to my next topic. When will you be doing a video about the collapse of Ansett. They thoroughly deserved everything that happened to them after their heinous treatment of Compass. I hope you'll be doing a video on them soon as I can't wait to hear of any details I missed when their collapse happened. I've been a travel agent for 29 years and the collapse of Ansett, while well deserved, wreaked havoc on our domestic flight market. Looking forward to you doing a very long and very in-depth video on the Ansett collapse.
Wow Lion, thanks for the comment. Yes I liked Compass, it was a shame what happened to them and you are very much on point with the parallels between that and BA vs VS. I had always had an interest in Compass given that my first flights were on the A300s that ended back up with Monarch and therefore made doing an episode on them one of my top priorities. I will certainly be covering Ansett, I'll admit that I did actually like the airline prior to discovering what happened between them and Compass. Someone has just done a video on Ansett, though I've not watched it. I will have one in due course, having got all of my research complete (no episode has ever been "open and shut" but the bigger and older airlines are always throwing out last minute surprises).
For those who require (or prefer them due to my Manc accent) subtitles will be coming online in a couple of days :)
🤣

Great job! I forgot about Fly Ant :P - Thank you for using some of my content and the shout out!
Thanks mate, always great when I'm able to get some of your stuff in an episode :)

Can we get a video on Insel Air of the Dutch Caribbean?
Yes, I'll give them a look at :)
Hi, great video! When can we expect a Thomas Cook or Monarch Grounded episode(s)? 🤔
Hi, thanks for watching :) I am working on both at the minute alongside several other airlines, I hope to have at least one of the two out this year :)
@@ExpoAviation Brilliant! Can't wait. I can see Thomas Cook being a long episode lol
When are you going to do a story on Family Airlines and Laker Sky Train ?
I'm midway through researching Freddie Laker's airlines, as I don't want to rush and miss something important. I have done quite a bit of work on Family Airlines too, I held off writing a script as believe it or not but they looked like having a revival so wanted to see how that went to give a full story :)
Do a video on Air 21 based out of Fresno, California.
They're in the works :)
Would love a GSM Flyglobespan vid
I've got a research file going on them, just got to check it's all correct and then start writing the episode :)
@@ExpoAviation great news
Can you do a Grounded of Go Fly, until they where absorbed by easyjet.

Can you pls do grounded first air pls pls pls pls😭
Yeah I'll take a closer look at them and see what I can do :)
