- Ontario, Canada-Lisa Calderon was accused of shoplifting by an employee of Old Navy in Square One Shopping Centre. The former employee Stephanie grabbed Calderon in front of security guards. Calderon went back to the story where the video proved she didn't steal anything.
That bish would've got stomped out the minute she put her hands on me. No more conversation. And stop crying in front of these demons.

No, that's giving them an excuse to assault you! If she had swung, those security guards would've thrown her on the ground, pepper sprayed her, handcuffed her, AND she would've been charged with assault! She handled it like a righteous queen, she kept her dignity, even though she was being treated unfairly. She filmed Karen grabbing her, and continued to demand she be let go. Because she remained collected, instead of getting arrested and assaulted, she got an apology from the store manager, Karen was fired, and she's got an airtight lawsuit against the store for discrimination and slander. She won't even have to go to court, the store will settle the lawsuit, and she'll make 6 figures, easy. All because she DIDN'T lose her temper, and give them an excuse to abuse her, while charging her for assault on top of it. Let your lawyer do your swinging for you, and hit them in their bank accounts!!!

I remember this story like I lived it. This was right after the Raptors won the 🏆. People will say the city was rejoicing as one but not here. Profiling was in session. This makes my blood boil because the mall cops said they were there to make sure everything was okay as they watched this woman being assaulted. Please know the law, know if you're assaulted, wrongfully imprisoned, etc.

It can be as simple as shoving someone, blocking their way, spitting on them, grabbing someone's arm, throwing something (liquid or otherwise) at them, or even grabbing something out of their hand.
When I worked in retail we were trained to not confront any suspect and to just let loss prevention know what happened. Apparently this employee wasn't trained correctly

I had a similar situation happen to me. I was in an Orange County mall and I walked into a store with my white girlfriend. Because, I'm a black man, a store employee immediately started following me around the store. My white girlfriend brought it to my attention and she was very uncomfortable with it. It didn't bother me, because I saw it all the time. But, my girlfriend got more and more upset about it. Eventually, she walked up to the white store employee and said a few choice words to her. She didn't say one curse word to the store employee, and she didn't raise her voice. It wasn't her character. I never heard her curse me or anyone. I didn't hear what my girfriend said to her, but the white store employee walked away real quick and left us alone. We would walk around and window shop all the time. I am a Chemist and she was an Orange County social worker, so we were both well paid people and had no reason to steal. I felt really good about my ex-gf that day. It is too bad it didn't last. I think eventually it all got to be too much for her too.

Because the employee was trying to stop what she thought was a $10.00 dollar theft will now cost them hundreds of thousands of dollars in a settlement so now the employee is a liability and that's why they fired her.

@Jerry Tyrone Hunt That's besides the point. Ontario minimum wage is $14 per hour, do your research. Cost of living is higher in Toronto and surrounding areas than most North American cities. Average 1 bedroom in Toronto now over $2000. Back to the story - point is if the employee feels she has stolen a shirt she can raise an alarm and get security, but she crossed the line when she put her hands on her. Afterall, security was present so that was uncall for.

@Connie Perry I know some places where it is also legal to defend an innocent person who is getting attacked by a Stephanie. Someone could have made Stephanie release her hand from that customer. My heart was beating too fast watching this.I wanted to break that grip and stand in between. I hope this video stays circulating so Stephanie has problems getting hired again (when she gets out of jail)
I think the woman's strength lay in not meeting violence with violence. She was very dignified and Stephanie has paid the price for her ignorance
When the sister was grabbed by the former employee, she in effect, was assaulted. Therefore, the sister should have turned around and slapped the mess out of that former employee!

Tish Tish, I've done that before. It's great. Another thing I did (when I had a lot of time) was go up to the profiling clerk and ask her to show me 10 thousand things in the store..."Oh, I wonder if you have this other thing...can you show me where they are?" I wore out this one profiler for over 30 minutes walking around the store and I always asked to see something on the top shelf. By the time I bought my one little $2 item, that girl was sweating (her forehead had water drops on it) & looking at me with hate. The cashier, who was also white, was smiling ear-to-ear, because he knew what I did. Ha! Be-atch!

Since watching "when they see us" on Netflix couple of weeks ago, my eyes and others have been well and truly opened on profiling and the idiots who phone the police for as much as a sneeze on your own property or having a BBQ in a public place like everyone else does.. wtf.. it's mad, thank god for smartphones x

Employees are not allowed to engage customers in theses instances even IF the suspicion is true. That is up to AP (asset protection) literally EVERY retailer I've ever worked for they make it clear YOU CANNOT accuse or restrain a customer, you have to call security.
