Pam and Jim: Kohlrabi has the texture of a turnip but tastes more like cabbage. My grama used to raise them and we ate them raw and cooked. They have a more uniform texture than turnips, which are sometimes grainy when cooked. Smaller kohlrabi are better, the really large ones become woody. Keep up the good work!
Thank you for taking us along! The mushrooms are very interesting, but I don' t know how to cook with them. I hope to see if you decide to do a video with them! Thank you, Pam & Jim, love watching & learning!❤
We have a local Farmers Market that is open every Saturday morning and last week we came home with a 1/2 lb of Lion's Mane. We took a quarter of it and put it in my homemade pasta with a buttery garlic sauce and the other quarter we seared it in a cast iron pan like we would do a steak. So yummy both ways!
I love those little market things. My daughter made a little spending money by selling her baked goods at their local street market when she was in college. She had the cutest little signs she made for the pricing. The mushroom folks were interesting. I knew some people grew them, but I had no idea how much went into growing it with the temp and humidity. Mikayla is great salesperson. I didn't think she was going to let you get away without buying those cucumbers. Smart young woman, and quite pleasant, too. I always enjoy your interactions with each other and the folks you meet on these excursions. Fun!
We will be traveling to Glacier National Park from Mississippi in September and we have definitely added your part of Utah to our trip. Can’t wait to visit some of the places you have featured on both your channels. We will be traveling with our 5th wheel.
Loved that mushroom stand and the great bit of education that came with it, thanks to the brothers!! I’ve yet to try Lion’s Mane mushrooms but will as soon as I can get my hands on some fresh grown ones. I’ve heard they’re supposed to be packed with nutritional benefits. It’s also the first time I’m seeing golden oyster, these are new to me so will be looking out for them as well. Thanks again for sharing!! ❤❤
What a beautiful adventure. Isn't it something, you are drawn back to Fries? It pays to be reasonable. I was shocked at the price of cabbage and cherries. Those carrots looked amazing. I have used your recipe for the ginger honey carrots and I just canned them for the third time in two months. I passed this recipe on to my sister as she trusts your video's. I am in the thinking mode on mushrooms. So very excited you purchased this. Because you are so brave in experimenting on things I have now finished up my 12 cheese block. I realized from watching you if it doesn't work out just keep at it and figure out the problem. Thank you for all you do. in the video world!
Love everything about St. George, Utah!! If you ever go back, there is a restaurant, The Painted Pony, my family loves it! Food is simply divine!! Thanks for sharing your Market experience. Here in Maine we have very similar Farmer's Markets.
Sounds like me going to our local farmers market when it's salsa season. Multiple trips back to the car with bags and small boxes of things, then once we've decided where to get tomatoes (and if it's early enough to not be crazy busy) we can pull up right in front of their stall with the car and get 2 x 40 pound boxes loaded right in
I had no idea you lived in this area. I live 30 minutes away! I did not know about this market but I will have to check it out. I also may have to try out those mushrooms, they look amazing! Thank you for all you do. I am missing the older generations in my family but I am so interested in learning to live more like my great grandma did and that is what I am learning from you. Thank you so much!
Pam, I just found mushrooms at our Farmers Market last week!! I bought lion's mane AND a lion's mane growing kit! I just pulled pieces of the lion's mane apart and cooked it in butter and added a bit of teriyaki sauce. Very meaty texture. Can't wait to grow my own. Gonna try the blue oyster mushrooms next week! Yum!
Pam and Jim I like watching you all I will call it the flea market love watching you get your stuff cannot wait to see what you do with it love you guys do you see you all in your next video take care God bless you can't wait
How did I not realize you were in Utah?! I have a friend in Washington UT. We came to visit and flew into Vegas and came by St George shuttle. We enjoyed Zion and Bryce’s canyon. We also did a hot air balloon ride. I’m ready to take a trip back. It’s a lovely area. Have followed you for a couple of years now and love your channel. You and Jim are so precious. Thanks for the wonderful content.
Was very interesting to watch and also to note that a little further down you could find such a big difference in price per pound on the cherries!!! Wow! I guess if people are willing to pay the price then they will get it but I’m like you Pam I’d rather keep walking for a better bargain! Looks like you found it too! I’m very interested in what you will do with those dried mushrooms!❤️🥰🇨🇦🍁🙏🏻
Wow. some of those prices are quite high, but that is the direction our food supply is going. I had planted kohl rabi pre internet days and didn't know how to eat it other than raw; I am planting out some seeds this year and will scour the internet looking for ideas. They are a mild turnip flavor and have a nice crunch but not too hard like rutabagahs.
Where we live, "City Market" is a small grocery chain owned by Kroger's. I was so pleased to see you attend a farmer's market instead! I just love all the unique fresh items Farmer's Markets have, and it's hard to get more local than shooping at one.
I was thinking the same thing. City Market was established Western Colorado by the Prinster family and was bought by Kroger. I think there’s. Smiths (Kroger) in St George. What a fun farmers market adventure!
Prices are about the same as our local farmers markets here in San Diego. And most is organic so its a great price being fresh picked and so much better than the store bought organics that usually old.
How about a field trip to see that mushroom underground bunker. The difference between a farmer's market and big box store vegs/fruits is the smell of fresh produce, plus the taste.
I can't believe you haven't tried kohlrabi, I was yelling at the screen: buy one and try it! If you love cabbage you'll love it, it tastes just as the name says: a mix between cabbage and radish/parsnip, but its so much sweeter, I like it fresh but you can cook with it just like any other vegetable, you can even make coleslaw substituting the cabbage for kohlrabi. (You need to peel it to eat it). You should try it and let us know what you think. I really like it.
Thank you! From Central Kentucky, I think that wasn't classical but Bluegrass music. I am going to reach out to the mushroom company and see if they send this far.
I can’t believe all your variety already! We are still limited to cool weather crops in No UT. But then we had a little hail and snow a couple days ago. And moderate days, tho here comes the low 90s.
We have been very lucky. They grow a lot of their veggies and ship some in from other areas. As the summer continues, they will make more available. Jim
Kinda wish you had picked up some lion’s mane mushrooms. I’ve heard so much about all their health benefits (10 plus) and would have appreciated your opinion on how they taste & cook up. So far I have only seen them once at the farmer’s market. Unfortunately I got sidetracked & didn’t get them and by the next week they were gone and have never returned.
You guys have to start growing your own mushrooms. The scientists and gardeners in you will love it. You can buy pre inoculated growing kits online (I’ve bought from local growers and non local) like north spore mushroom. I’ve done shiitake, pink oyster, and lions mane. So delicious. Sauteeing the lions mane in butter gives you something reminiscent of lobster in butter believe it or not. 10/10 recommend.
After posting this comment I ordered 3 different fruiting blocks. In the past I’ve gotten multiple flushes from each so I come out about even in the costs compared to store bought and with varieties you can’t find in grocery stores. Could be fun to dehydrate as well.
Looks like an amazing place! Excited to see how the mushrooms turn out. I want to try different things but can’t spend a lot on things that we might not like. Looking for to Wednesdays video!
Loved that mushroom stand! Those were gorgeous! I loved the St. George Farmers market. Might I inquire which park this market seemed to be at? Was it the old city park now called Vernon Werthen/Worthen Park?
When was this video taken? I live in northern Wisconsin. Our ground temperature isn't even up to 65° yet so I could plant green beans. It's amazing to think that they have full size, cucumbers and carrots, melons and all of that in the spring. Today is 6/10/24
Mushrooms I know a little about and we eat the grocery store varieties often. I know enough about kale to never include it in our diet. We dislike it intensely. With spinach almost as nutritious, we go that route. But Kohlrabi I have never tried. Will have to do that. Thanks.

Raw with salt was always my fav!
Sautéed in butter 👍
Kohlrabi season🙌🏻🙌🏻
We grow them in our greenhouse and love them!❤
We will try them! Thanks.
How fun!! It was GREAT to see all the fresh produce and how cool are those mushrooms!! Loved the video and you are TOO cute!
Thank you for taking us along! The mushrooms are very interesting, but I don' t know how to cook with them. I hope to see if you decide to do a video with them! Thank you, Pam & Jim, love watching & learning!❤
We will have some videos how to cook mushrooms. There are number of sites on cooking them, too. Jim
We have a local Farmers Market that is open every Saturday morning and last week

That is awesome! Yes, we are going to start ours in a day or two. Jim
Wow! Those mushrooms looked great!
I was just getting ready to leave that same comment. The mushrooms look yummy!
I love those little market things. My daughter made a little spending money by selling her baked goods at their local street market when she was in college. She had the cutest little signs she made for the pricing.

Those mushrooms look heavenly! I'm looking forward to seeing what goodies you make.
The mushrooms look fabulous!! But the prices… wow.
I have kohlrabi growing in my garden right now!
Love this!!!! Loved seeing all the produce & 'shrooms, but this TN hillbilly got truly excited about the banjo & fiddle 😊😉
We will be traveling to Glacier National Park from Mississippi in September and we have definitely added your part of Utah to our trip. Can’t wait to visit some of the places you have featured on both your channels. We will be traveling with our 5th wheel.
It sounds like you will have a great time. Please pay attention to the weather on your trip. Jim
You guys are such a beautiful couple! I just love watching your channel! ❤
Thanks! Jim

I'm really enjoying the 'discovery' videos.
So glad to hear it! Thank you for letting us know.
Hi, Jim & Pam! Thank you for sharing! I am looking forward to see what you do with the mushrooms and pickling cucumbers. 😊.

What a beautiful time you had. Markets are so fun.The sellers were wonderful.
Yes they are. We are really having a good time checking them out!
oh my , those apricots looked so great, i hope they are! what fun !

What a fun trip! Val C
The cherries look scrumpdillyicious!

What a wonderful market. The mushrooms looked absolutely delicious. I am looking forward to see how you use them. See you on Wednesday!
Hi from Oz , Loved looking at a market over there . Kohlrabi are so yummy baked like a potato .
I had not thought of that. Jim
Hello, that looked like so much fun! I haven't been to a farmers market in a long time. Have a lovely day.
How did I not realize you were in Utah?! I have a friend in Washington UT. We came to visit and flew into Vegas and came by St George shuttle. We enjoyed Zion and Bryce’s canyon. Beautiful farmers market
Hope you enjoyed the music! Another great choice and I wish I was there with you.

I did not know that about City Market. Yes, Farmers markets are unique. Jim

You make a great point. Jim
Oh I can't wait to see what you do with those mushrooms!
How about a field trip to see that mushroom underground bunker.
The difference between a farmer's market and big box store vegs/fruits is the smell of fresh produce, plus the taste.
I do not know it that possible. Jim

Thanks for the tips! Jim
Looks like our market here in Littleton CO. Very early for most locally grown produce. Very interested in the mushrooms I love canning them
Thank you! From Central Kentucky, I think that wasn't classical but Bluegrass music. I am going to reach out to the mushroom company and see if they send this far.
You might be right about the Bluegrass. Jim
Jim
I can't stand kale either. Those apricots looked really good.
Pam ate the apricots. Jim
Can't wait to see how you use these mushrooms and if you like it?
Mushrooms can make great fajita meat. Marinate the same as steak or chicken.
That sounds very good. Jim
Such a blessing
Those bothers have identical eyes. Cute guys. They seemed to enjoy talking to you.
Kinda wish you had picked up some lion’s mane mushrooms. I’ve heard so much about all their health benefits (10 plus) and would have appreciated your opinion on how they taste & cook up. We did...called him the next day and got some. Tune in to Friday's video!
Have you tried dried kale with sea salt❤ ❤

Oh my husband will be so jealous over your apricots. They had an apricot tree in their Utah home backyard and he says they were the best ever!
Looks like an amazing place! Excited to see how the mushrooms turn out. I want to try different things but can’t spend a lot on things that we might not like. Looking for to Wednesdays video!
$7 a pound for cherries? 😮 I’m paying $3.50 here in LA. Those mushrooms look fabulous! Love those cucumbers. They’ll make great pickles!
Great prices
Loved that mushroom stand! Those were gorgeous! I loved the St. George Farmers market.
Might I inquire which park this market seemed to be at? Was it the old city park now called Vernon Werthen/Worthen Park?
So many many good memories in that park, good good vibes.

I find farmers markets expensive.
Please, please slow down for panoramic views.
Hi, is this in St. George, Utah? Do St. George have the farmers market year round?
Yes it is in Utah. I think they close only for January.
Do you have a email address for questions?
I have to smile at your lack of knowledge of mushrooms, kale, kohlrabi. Try them and cook them in the right way. You may be surprised.
Mushrooms I know a little about and we eat the grocery store varieties often. I know enough about kale to never include it in our diet. We dislike it intensely. With spinach almost as nutritious, we go that route. But Kohlrabi I have never tried. Will have to do that. Thanks.
