      Isn't that pretty much the case for most Infomercialism-type products?
      There are usually many existing products that have likely been in use for years and are well-known to be good at the job, or even just common sense solutions with no special products needed, but those peddling these products pretend they don't exist so they can give an unrealistic scenario that their product is supposedly better than.

    Oh yeah, I'd nearly forgotten this was why I subscribed in the first place 😄
    We had one of these for our dog and, well, his reaction was about the same as Basil's, not surprisingly. You're basically taking a sander to their nails. They don't love the clippers but at least it's quick and painless (if you do it right)

  • @GothicKittyMadness
    @GothicKittyMadness Год назад +8

    Yep. As soon as I saw Basil I knew it was going terrify him. D: Dogs and Cats are not going like this. Basil's nails don't look like they need clipping anyway. Cats are usually good at self grooming and if you provide them with things for scratching then that helps keep their nails from getting too long. A lot of dogs I groom don't like clippers near there paws because they're very sensitive to the vibrations, clippers are the only tools to use for nails in my professional and honest opinion.

    First: I'm surprised there isn't any "Put your weeny in it!" comment yet. Second: I'd never clip a cat's nails unless there are related health issues. That's how cats end up on top of trees that can't get down (and other issues).

    I knew someone who took her dog to the vet for claw trimming because her the dog’s nails were black so she couldn’t see the quick through the nail. Even the vet would cut the quick and the nail would bleed.

  • @pegasos1986
    @pegasos1986 Год назад +1

    Seriously:
    If a dog has claws at the length they show in their CGI, they don't need to be cut. That is the length (and the shape) they are at when they are worn down naturally by walking / running over the right kind of surface. No need to bother the animal with this device. Only do that if the claws are overgrown.

  • @Smaxx
    @Smaxx Год назад +4

    Oh, and btw. I think the overall concept and idea for this isn't that bad. I can see it kind of working (although this won't keep you from still removing too much of a nail by accident). There are machines like this that are more compact (one or two AA batteries) with finer drums made to remove excessive skin and filing nails and they work rather well. I'd rather get one of these than an oversized (and probably overpriced) pet version.

  • @QuivaRPG
    @QuivaRPG Год назад +1

    This does actually work if you have the time and want to put in the effort to get your pet used to it. Which I'm absolutely sure they said nothing about in the instructions. No, that's not sarcasm. You're supposed to turn it on and then just leave it on the floor for them to sniff and get used to the noise. You keep doing that until they don't react. Then turn it on and place it against them, giving treats the whole time, until they don't react. THEN you try to use it on their nails.
    All of which I've found to be pointless because I've never known a pet to sit still for this unless the pet is all-around chill already.

  • @doryna_sira
    @doryna_sira Год назад +2

    Yeah, I got a similar device for my dog and she was not having any of it because of the noise and the way it felt, just like Basil. She is actually better with the clippers, since they don't make noise. Which is unfortunate, since I have damage to my thumb from a nerve injury, so I can't use the clippers. Luckily, between walking her every day and grooming every couple of months, her nails are well taken care of.
    There are actually vets and groomers who will clip their regular customers' pet nails for free or discount if the owners can't do it due to physical issues.

  • @GothicKittyMadness
    @GothicKittyMadness Год назад +1

    FFS. as a dog groomer I can tell that dogs are going hate this a lot more than clippers. Clippers are fast and effective. Yes it's true that cutting the quick will hurt your dog and cause the nail to bleed but if people are not confident in cutting nails then the best option is to bring the dog to a grooming salon. We are trained in cutting nails properly so that it doesn't hurt the dog or cause damage to the nail. Any groomer would advise against using something like this.

    I was able to clip all of the claws of the family cats while I lived with my parents (with traditional cat claw clippers). I was fairly successful on clipping the nails of the cats they have now, save one, and I straight up told my parents to get that cat's claws done at the vet's, the cat freaked out that much. Just safer for my parents and the cat.
    We actually have the pedipaw for our dog. I will say that he tolerates it. Not a fan, but he knows what it is and what it is for and he will let us do his nails with it.
