there are so many videos about drainage systems, but I like this short one. Thank you

French drain looks good in this situation except that the sock that covers the drain pipe will quickly plug and it will stop working. It's not necessary considering all the crushed rock around the pipe.

Good video. I'm going to have to do something on a drainage issue close to my house and this is a good recap of solutions I have been thinking about.👍

I often see the pipe only gets, perforation facing down, and I get why that is done but curious as to why not perforating also the top part of the pipe to help water flow in?

i believe it's because when the soil becomes too saturated with water, the water starts to rise which then the perforated holes catch the rising water before it get back above ground. so top perforated holes wouldn't be necessary.

Hi. I was looking for this, but my back yard is in cement, and it keeps getting algae. What can I place under the pvc drain?

I have a question: Wouldn't it be better to have the holes in the PVC pipe on the top and sides, instead of the sides and bottom? I would think we'd want to have the water drain into the pipe and prevent it from draining out along its length until it exits out where it's intended to.

The pipe typically has 2 rows of holes. Not 3. If you think about it like a clock. The holes would be about 10 and 2. Or 8 and 4. However you rotate it. You want the holes pointing down (8 and 4). The water gets in from the bottom of the pipe and runs along the belly. If you face the holes up, stuff will fall in those holes more quickly.

@@SandlGetItthat is incorrect. The purpose of the rock is to displace dirt with a media that has a lot of void space in it. The trench fills with water from the bottom up, hence the holes being on the bottom half of the pipe. Rain water runs along ground and falls into trench at the edge of the trench, falls thru the voids in the rock and fills the trench from the bottom up to the holes. Then it flows into the holes and in the direction that the angle of the pipe has been placed going downhill towards.

@smg8498 thanks for your reply. I agree with you. You are saying the same thing I thought I explained. Maybe I explained it wrong. Holes face down and water comes in from the bottom.
