The White Goddess

Hello Friends,
This is a song I wrote almost 40 years ago when my family was recording 4 Seasonal Programs for WFMT in Chicago called The Wheel of the Year. We were all collecting songs for various holidays in each season and I had February 1st and 2nd; Ground Hog's Day, Imbolc, St Brigid's Day, Candlemas... I was looking at Robert Graves book The White Goddess and next thing I knew, this song came pouring out of me. It is the first song I ever wrote (if I don't count the Ballad of the Blind Boy which I wrote when I was 12 years old and is eminently forgettable). Bob Bowker wrote a fabulous arrangement for this song which I sing with my daughters, sister and mother on my CD The Leaves Entwine. You could listen here jenniferarmstrong.bandcamp.com
