Only just found this at the age of 40 years old. Watching some old clips from Viper Rooms and decided to dig through Frusciante's earlier stuff. They're amazing together in this
Yeah I know what you mean, a lot of John's stuff during his "junkie" years was really far out. It's so spontaneous it can almost put you in his mindset..
I remember when I read about John life. I got curious about his first solo albums. And this track attracted me right from the start. Can't tell if it was because of the two guitars work, or River voice... but It grew on me. I started playing it on my guitar, and singing it to. Now it's like some sort of, I don't know, medicine for me. To just sit down a sing it with my guitar. Even when the lyrics aren't clear, I keep on the ones I figured out. Music is so wonderful...
Such a beautiful song! (equally sad though) Frusciante is one of the few really dedicated musicians still around.. I'm so grateful for his contribution of music, and the fact that he's, healthy and still making brilliant music!

I aways feel like there is a place, a real place, i can see it, hidden in time where, we all listening meet each other - not like one, but still ourselves
Probably never going to happen because John's not happy that he put this album out. He outright said that it's not a cohesive listening experience and the whole album has been assembled from outtakes simply to get drug money. John requested the album to be removed from sale when he quit hard drugs in '98.
I used to play this one, the title track, and well I've been sooooooo much back in 2004, way before any social media rubbish. Pure pure times. I was right into john's solo art way before the kids jumped on the bandwagon because they heard it was cool.
god...such a shame. He could still be here on this earth, breathing and playing music. So sad. Everyone makes mistakes, everyone...it's too bad that his mistake had to take his life.
Trisha Davis According to multiple people he had been clean for months and was getting his shit together. He relapsed. Heroin users have a near 100% chance of relapse. It's super dangerous because the body isn't used to what you think it is. I don't beleive for a second he wanted to die. Troubled folks have moments. God knows I have gotten exhausted with life at times, but being fed up doesn't mean you ACTUALLY want to die. Frusciante made some shitty heroin addled comment about how River should never have been born because he didn't like this life, and it is fucking offensive. River may not have liked what he saw in the world, but because of that he tried to make it a better place - and he did. Living through what he did, and choosing to still see the good in things, holding on to hope, that's not someone who gives up.
Listening to this song makes me wonder what these two could have done if they'd kept playing together. It's one of River's better songs. I think Frusciante would have been a good creative influence. He had the musical genius to sort of tie up some of River's loose ends, and also bring out the more raw and unique parts of him. I also wonder what could have been if they'd never met. We'd probably still have them both. So sad that River didn't get the chance to come back from his youthful mistakes like John did.
@@Sebrewer32 river WAS addicted to heroin just like john was. river had quit for a few months to work on a movie so his resistance had gone down a ton. river would've taken the cup from ANYONE. its so sad knowing what happened to him but we can't blame john at all. river CHOSE to drink it, john didn't put a gun to his head n force him to.
Y me desconecta.
It is ridiculous to blame John for what happened to River. No one killed River, but himself. Drugs was a bad choice that both made individually. Both were junkies, each of them should know their own limits, each is guilty for what happened to themselves. John decided to start using drugs, he went to hell and back, he almost died. That he is guilty. River decided to use drugs, unfortunately he could not stand, and he died. Someone forced him to take the drugs that killed him? I don't think so. It is a choice that each one did. Things would be different if only RIVER choose NOT USE DRUGS. It was a tragedy, and the only person who can be blamed for it's River. There's a girl going to videos related to that and saying the wrong person died that night. As if John had to have died and not River. This is sick as fu*k. Stop. No one should have died. Both are very talented. It was a tragedy. Let's all be happy that John has recovered and is now a healthy man filling the world with great songs.
John said: "Death is no big deal, it was worse that he was born, cause he didn't like this life. He is in a better place now". For me, (a fan that never knew River), River's death was a most sad, sad, sad and huge loss because he was so young and had so much more to do and experiences to live.. He was such Charismatic, Cool, talented, caring, and Sweet presence when he was alive..Until he lost his way and got into the toxic substances as well as the wrong company of people/influences.
