I cry to this every once in a while. Reminds me of what I went through when I lost my dad in 2012. I’d rail 10-12 opiates while listening to this album. I was so lost and eventually I couldn’t afford my addiction and went through a horrid withdrawal. I’ll never forget how bad I wanted to sleep forever, and how hard I tried for that to happen. If you have any kind of drug addiction or feel remotely like what this album puts you through just know there’s another chapter for you in life. Even John overcame his adversity. Crazy to think such a radiant being was ever in the depths of despair here.
The vast majority of musicians just don't have the balls to put something like this out. Hubert Selby used to say a lot of men were horrible writers because they let their own dicks get in the way of the story. John is totally pure for this reason, being completely honest to us and himself, unafraid to display his bare-naked soul.

some times i feel this song is like an opera-it has so much drama in it and how he is singing and controlling his breath- it is mesmerizing and captivating and makes you listen 0:55 and the blues part, the semi-dialog between himself and the other "him", it sounds like 91 frusciante talking to 94-97 frusciante- so many good things in it!
This one reminds my of the two sides of himself speaking over and through each other and underneath it all is just beautiful and breathtaking music. A power struggle if you will. Love this one

Niandra Lades was also recorded when he was NOT on drugs, and some of these songs were, too. He's just as great sober -- the same person, in fact.
@TehSorso He did release Smile for drug money, but lot of these songs are out-takes from Niandra. "A Fall Thru the Ground" was even recorded when he John was 18. All the songs on both albums were recorded at completely different times, so it's hard to decipher.

I do get the sense you are abit ignorant to Johns more polished work outside of this album, so I will forgive you - But before you get on here and preach about what qualifies good and bad music you really need some more context as to Johns other work.
