Same here. I bought (or had my dad buy because I was a kid) NL&UJaT-shirt because I had accidentally downloaded a portion of this song on Napster, but it got cut off. I listened to the whole album, and was elated when it started at the end of "Mascara". I was like, "Awww yeah, here we go...awwww hell no, it was like 5 seconds!!!" Glad the internet has advanced since those days.
I wish i would meet somebody in real life who would just understand John. I think i be so fucking happy and feel complete, someone with who'm i could just talk about this fucking genius with all day 24/7 because god knows i would. This song is just amazing, i just feel as if i am leaving my body when i listen to this piece of simple yet powerful music. Thanks for everything John.

John frusciante's music is like alcohol addiction : first you start it late in the night and keep it to nights only But later it consumes you so here you are listening it at 2 in the afternoon 🧡
I was listen to "Mascara" by JF. "The ending riff is amazing! It's such a shame that it's so short" I thought. Today I heard for the first time Outside Space. Well, I feel so good!
I heard this in high school when I was depressed over a person who I thought abandoned me in high school who I really liked. I would loop this song over and over. Such beautiful stuff
This song is the soundtrack to my descent into madness. This was the last song I listened to before the drugs sent me into a gibbering mess. This is the first time I've listened to this song since it happened 6 months ago. I'm a better person now, and so is John. This song is beautiful.
i had the single and used to listen to it on repeat and when i was dying from heroin addiction I knew that this would be the last song I would hear ringing through my head. I lost the single or it got stolen. Either way it was a talisman and foreshadowing of things to come. I got free in spite of all my efforts. I love John because I do remember when he put out To Record Only Water I knew he was clean cause you could tell and the music was fantastic and it gave me hope. Shortly thereafter I got a lot of help and took it. God bless John. I'll forever be grateful for his theme music of my demise/shared experience and hope music. He's the real deal.
I got Niandra the day it came out on tape and then again on CD and then Smile from the streets and stress 45. I also saw him play when he was semi fucked up during the nutstalk tour and his backing band was fishbone dudes. He screamed and shredded. It seemed like he was exercising all the demons. That was 1997. I got clean in 2001. He lead the way and at the time was really the only kind of hope I had was my understanding that he must have changed to produce a new record where the music had changed and he was clean.
Since I'm already going through a real dark period of my life, I think this song is my perfect companion. It makes darkness way less scary and a lot more comfortable. I feel like laying down on my bedroom floor with the lights out and just wait for the darkness and sadness to go away. I know I'll be safe as long as I can count on this song.
See how amazing, full of love an positive energy John's music is, that everyone in here is commenting beautiful things. Love you all, keep on travelling great distances in your mind with this beautiful creation.
Every time I had a fight with my ex-girlfriend I would go running on the beach while listening to this song. Now we're not together and I live far away from that place. Listening to this song again after so much time is so nostalgic in a weird way... Thank you, John. You saved me in my worst times.
i just created a youtube channel in order to comment on this particular song that i religiously listen on a daily basis. This hauntingly beautiful piece of guitar takes me to places i’ve never been and touches my soul like any other song can.
Is it possible to travel very long distances in your mind, or deep into the corners of your soul, caressing the most profound emotions through sounds, using nothing but your ears, standing still in a chair? Yes, you can. Sorry for my english but I just wanted to make that question. This era of John is a direct access to the most emotional moments of my life. Greetings from Argentina! 🇦🇷
i wake up and i know that life will be okay, no matter how difficult it may be , artists like John are and inspiration and are living proof that its okay to be sad. he helps me see the beauty in the world and for that gives me a purpose.
This guy made me pick up the guitar and made me write my own songs, if someone in life lights the spark in you to be creative that’s a beautiful feeling. The planet shouldn’t be going green going electric, we should run on the real energy of our souls 💜
Reading all these comments at midnight and i am just speechless at how beautiful this man's work is and how he can bring so many people together and help people with his music. i love it and i cant say more other than this.
I've always loved RHCP but I recently started to get more into John frusciante and I kid you not, this man is the most beautiful, creative, raw and deep person I've ever known of. I feel like I'm part of a group of whom that I can bond with
Some observations from listening to this song: 1. This is one of the most complete songs I've ever heard. You could put the elliptical melody of the intro on repeat for an entire day and I would be happy. 2.He sounds kind of like Marc Bolan at 3:48 on "Would there be any time.." 3. Favorite sample Lyrics: "He ejaculated hula hoops of color.." and "I don't evenfeel like a battered photograph". 4.The spiritual freedom of his music has gotten me this last year of pain.
The first time I heard a JF solo record was the time I felt that warm sensation in my chest, something like a very simple but complex feeling at the same time. So I had to check him out of the music, like what he thinks and what his words would be like if his music was this amazing, I thought he would have something special to say. So I discovered "The Heart is a Drum Machine", if you haven't heard about this, I hardly recommend it. He is a truly amazing human being, meditation and do good in others by spiritually perfecting yourself takes you to this point where you know everything has a balance and the present is everything.
this song has been my favourite john song for years and today a sample of it randomly came up on my tiktok for you page…when i tell you i got chills all over my body hearing those first notes completely out of the blue.
never heard anything so spiritually moving and soul touching like JFs guitar. The lyrics he writes and his tones and riffs just mimic his cosmic pain and i feel like I get it. Not all of it but too much and I feel like no one understands my love for good music, I mean like really good music but I have so much to share and no one to share it with and that kinda makes me feel lonely and melancholic sometimes, but it’s also my own lil gem. What a beautiful soul, what a virtuous, I’m thankful to life in a time where I can listen to this

I cannot listen to this song. When I first listened to it, i was really into weed.
