FIJI Village Life - Cant mount the horse….plus the Cassava Farm & Horse Riding 🇫🇯

- Another glimpse into life in a rural Fijian village in Northern Fiji, deep in the heart of Vanua Levu, in the Province of Cakaudrove. Welcome to Nayarabale, home of my namesake.
In this video we head up to the farm to pull some cassava for dinner, and collect some dalo/taro on the way… but first the boys need to prepare the horse….which takes forever! I like to keep these insights into village life quite raw and real, and purposefully no narration, but Kimbo and Mesa take that long, even this is an edited version!
Don’t know why they were so scared to get on this horse, but much hilarity for those watching…and a lot of swearing!
It was a scorching hot day, the “road” to the farm is bloody steep so apologies for the heavy breathing…..
and you’ll notice Kimbo bunks out quite early (stomach pain!) so just myself, Tish and Peni make it to the farm.

The dialect adds humour to the video 😂 they hit differently when spoken by kids. Though I don't understand much of what they were saying, my guess is, they were telling him "Lade ga yani veitalia o lutu” 😂😂😂😂

Yes it’s food, big staple crop in Fiji - you might know it as ‘yuca’. Known as ‘tavioka’ in Fiji (Cassava in English) Usually peeled and boiled, or can be sliced and fried. Nice either way. Thanks for watching.
@@fijikimbo I googled this how we use in America there are two types of cassava: sweet and bitter. Bitter cassava is hardier but has a much higher cyanide content. Most of the cassava used in the United States is sweet. In the U.S., people grind cassava down to make tapioca, which they eat as a pudding or use as a thickening agent. Thanks for teaching

I don´t think they have it. But they should have had some girls to handle the horses first.
We Can't afford better equipment...... just a horse saddle is anywhere from $500. to $1000.
Islanders have to be resourceful and use what they have. No need to judge others when they don’t have what you have available or the money to be able to buy it. Especially somewhere remote like Fiji where you cannot always get things easily or they cost more because they have to be imported. I respect the humble way of life. If you don’t understand or appreciate what it takes to live simple and with less resource, and of humble means, then no need to act superior; just learn about others and how to respect and appreciate their culture instead of judging them. Being able to afford a saddle just means you have more privilege and opportunity, not that you know better or would be able to do any better. What a rude comment when others are sharing their way of life with you.

Land is always full of minerals when its left as it is until absolutely necessary to work it. Villages depend on the land so no need really to clean too much..every plant and insects and animals depends on each other..the more you clean the more you push them away
