Good video. This lock is really easy to install. The only recommendation is to make the holes that the wire goes through bigger on the combination end. It's hard to get it through the holes for the retaining screws. I had to drill the B screw opening a little to get the wire through before completing the install.

Nice, but a push button version would be better as it would be easier to open in the dark and wouldn't need scrambling

I love this product but getting the braided wire into that tiny hole was what took the longest. The wire cannot have any fray or deformation or else it will come apart trying to get into that. Please add an aglet on the braided wire or use solid wire or make the hole bigger.

Great video! Would this lock work if my fence is only and half an inch thick?

can this be installed on the door not the post?

One video said the post has to be 3-1/2" thick. The package says it can be installed on different size posts. Which is true? I have a double out swinging gate and want to put it in the middle.

Wow. I am late to the party, and I’m just looking for instructions on how to change my damn code! 😂 Since no one else seems interested in answering questions and I have this installed I’ll tell you I don’t think it matters how think you’re post is as long as the wire can reach through it. I’m guessing the guidelines are really alluding to the stability of the post you’re installing it on, if you’re happy with it then I’m sure it’ll be fine as it’s simply a code to release the face panel on the external side which pulls the wire through the post lifting the latch which is on the internal side. You could lengthen the wire if you really wanted to, you’d just have to use a swayge and ensure the hole in the post is large enough to accomodate the join.

I have a question. Can you ever leave it unlocked for expected guests so they don't have to use code, especially at night?

      no.

Based off the way they showed in the video, I would guess that to leave it unlocked for guests to continue to arrive (as in for a party or something), that you would open it and NOT reset the code, so that it just stayed in the unlocked position, but I could be wrong as I've not installed it yet.

Bit late but yes you can. Open with the code then spin the numbers so it’s locked while open. The gate won’t relatch but will still look closed. Alternatively leave the code set and close the the panel so guests just need to pull the face down to open the gate.

I love the idea but can’t someone just open it up and disassemble it? I have someone trying to break it and I’m trying to find the best fence lock.

They can't open it unless they have the combination. They may be able to pry the entire box off of the post to open the latch but it would be difficult and nothing is impenetrable besides they'd make a lot of noise and attract too much attention. It would be much easier for someone to take a trash can, lawn chair, step stool or something else from your yard and climb over the fence. I never think of how I can absolutely keep someone out but how I can make it so difficult or so that it would cause them to make a lot of noise that they look for an easier target.

if I'd set the code and forget the code. Can I set it a new code ?

    • @nationalhardware7611
      @nationalhardware7611  5 лет назад

Hi there, thanks for asking, it is recommended to write down the code somewhere safe as the mechanism to open the lock won't work without the code. If you have forgotten the code, please contact us at 1-800-346-9445 for further assistance. Thank you, National Hardware

Or you can look up how to change the code but you might end up stuck on installation videos like me. 😂

I figured out why mine was not working... the combo dials were impossibly hard to turn by hand. It was rendered possible only by using a flathead to jam them into different positions

I have the same problem. I bought two of these and installed them. Once installed, the numbers don't turn easily so I can't lock them. I'm returning mine and looking for another solution.

Just by those lock boxes instead of buying this whole thing. The lock boxes have the hole in it already just gotta be creative lol and do the same thing that pretty much says on here. You'll spend less money. Just need a lock box that metal string and a spring

I set the code like this video said now it’s stuck on the new code and I can roll any numbers. It’s stuck open with my new code. Any ideas?

I had the same problem today. I have a hunch the way the code was demo'd was slightly incorrect compared to other demo videos. I'll know in a week or two if my hunch is correct.
were you able to fix the problem or did you just return the item?
