My dad introduced me to Hawaiian music. I had the chance to visit Hawaii and placed two leis on Gabby’s statue: one for Gabby and one for my dad. Very emotional moment for me.
life has been crazy lately, I decided I wanted a Malasada, I stopped at King's Hawai'ian, haven't dined there for years, standing in line at the bakery listening to the music... was marvelous... I want to fill my space with this... Thank you.
Growing up in a Hawaiian family, I used to listen to this music in the car with my grandparents. After they last away I’ve lost touch with our Hawaiian heritage. It makes me sad. This is so beautiful. Thank you for sharing. Aloha!
I like a lot of Hawaiian music, especially slack-key guitar, and some wonderful singers, and Gabby is definitely in the second category; his voice and style is so distinctive and expressive-he sounds like his soul is in every song he sings! What an amazing musician, and even though he is gone, he remains as strong an influence today as ever, and we are blessed by hearing his voice's refrains and guitar work as any who have ever heard it before. Bless you and keep you, Gabby, and thank you for a lifetime of music from you!
Another gemmmm - it walks on, this song... like ..walking with your loved one... dancing. Thanks so much for uploading. Important material.. for humanity..
This singer has a voice so calm, along with this band is magic! I found out this video some days ago and have heard it again and again, because it is wounderful.
This the best version of Hi'ilawe of all the many recordings Gabby did, and is the closest to his live performances of the song. I too have never been able to find this until now.

The Hawaiians had their own islands/society/history/music/monarchy and The West did everything it could to eradicate all those things - it even drove music like this "underground". Thank God is survived. Remember the Empire!
Yes, but they were false representatives of our God and not led by the Spirit of God Not Having the Understanding of what a follower of Christ was supposed to be. Loving other without condition they erred gravely trying to impose their cultures upon the native Peoples and putting themselves above these people instead of truly loving them. We aren't called to be God's enforcers with a list of do's & don'ts. This was Satan's work Not Jesus Christ, to discredit the Gospel
"The Best of Gabby" how appropo Just wanted to share: The International Astronomical Union has named a crater on the planet of Mercury after the late Hawaiian musician Gabby Pahinui. All the craters on Mercury, the solar systems smallest and innermost planet, are named for famous, deceased artists, musicians, authors or other contributors to the humanities, Eight others were named along with the Pahinui Crater, including L’Engle Crater, for Madeleine L’Engle, author of “A Wrinkle in Time,” and Lovecraft Crater, for American horror writer H.P. Lovecraft.
If anyone is wondering what the words mean, itʻs about two lovers that meet at the waterfall Hiʻilawe on big island. So romantic! I love you Grampa, I am so crushed without you and dad. This world is so cruel and the European and American elite are totally destroying our culture and our island. I am abused non stop by american gangsters in hawaii. I wish you were here. No one one would hurt me if you were still alive. Our family is totally broken and destroyed by in-laws and shady people in the music industry and hollywood. My mom did everything should could to keep me from you and gramma and dad. Iʻm here to tell the world the truth about Hawaii and how we are treated every single generation. I miss you so much and I thank you for your talent and guidance. I know you are watching over me all my life. Rest in peace Grampa. I hope I join you soon.
I can't seem to find this version of Hi'ilawe anywhere? It is by far the best I've heard! Do you have an mp3 to this version? Would you be kind enough to send it across, if that's cool?

The best Hawaiian singer of every year, including now.
I honestly don't think there is any other music as soothing as Hawaiian. You don't have to understand Hawaiian to embrace it.
Some songs you can search on RUclips shows lyrics and english translation, there is always a story behind every song💥🤙🏾aloha🌺🌈🌴

Hi'ilawe
Written by Sam Li'a Kalainaina, Sr.
Lyrics and Translation:
Kûmaka ka `ikena iâ Hi`ilawe
All eyes are on Hi'ilawe
Ka papa lohi mai a`o Maukele
In the sparkling lowlands of Maukele
Pakele mai au i ka nui manu
I have not been trapped by the gossip
Hau wala`au nei puni Waipi`o
Chattering everywhere in Waipi'o
`A`ole nô wau e loa`a mai
I am not caught
A he uhiwai au no ke kuahiwi
For I am the mist of the mountains
He hiwahiwa au na ka makua
I am the darling of the parents
A he lei `â`î na ke kupuna
And a lei for the necks of the grandparents
No Puna ke `ala i hali `ia mai
The fragrance is wafted from Puna
Noho i ka wailele a`o Hi`ilawe
And lives at Hi'ilawe waterfall
Ha`ina `ia mai ana ka puana
Tell the refrain
Kûmaka ka `ikena iâ Hi`ilawe
All eyes are on Hi'ilawe
OMG. Mahalo, tita, for this! God bless you!
Thank you so much!
