  • Why did Nehru Reject UNSC Seat for India? | Flashback with Palki Sharma
India received two offers to join the UN Security Council as a permanent member in the 1950s. Then-prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru rejected both offers despite saying that India deserves to be on the council. Why then did he reject the offers? Was it the right decision or a Himalayan blunder? Watch this video to find out.

It was a trap cause India then didn't enjoy the needed support.
It was destined to be voted out.

Nehru's blunder mention by Avijit Chavda
    1. Rejected a permanent seat at the UN
    2. Rejected Nepal’s offer to join Bharat
    3. Rejected Balochistan’s offer to join Bharat
    4. Created the Kashmir issue
    5. Presided over the disastrous Sino-Bharat war
    6. Refusal To Enter Nuclear Deal
    7. Nehru rejected a US offer of helping Bharat with the development of a nuclear device in 1964 perhaps because he was a proponent of
    non-violence.
    8. Led the ill-conceived Non-Aligned Movement
    9. Indifference towards Goa
    10. Favoured Socialism instead of free-market Capitalism.
    11. Ignored Corruption
    12. Clung to Power for too long
    13. Curbed journalistic freedom and freedom of expression
    14. Failure to encourage, promote and implement universal primary education
    15. Toppled democratically elected Kerala government in 1957
    16. Gifted Pakistan
    17. Didn't allow Sardar Patel to be the PM
    18. Gifting Manipur's Kabo valley to Burma
    19. Gifting the strategically located Coco Islands to Burma
    20. Refusing the Sultan of Oman's gift of Gwadar port
    21. Giving up on Tibet, placing India's water security and northern border at China's mercy
    22. Signing the most unequal treaty in history
in 1960, PM Nehru, for the sake of "friendship" and "goodwill" signed one of the most unequal, lopsided treaties ever - the Indus Waters Treaty, giving Pakistan ownership of over three-fourths of the water the flows through the Indus System of Rivers located in Bharat. Pakistan reciprocated Nehru's gesture of goodwill by invading Bharat just five years later.
    23. Hostility towards Sardar Patel's restoration of the Somnath Temple
    24. Obstructing Sardar Patel's plan to liberate Hyderabad from the murd-er0us Nizam
    25. Nehru had a total impractical approach to integrating Kashmir with rest of Bharat. He didn't allow Sardar Patel to deal with Kashmir issue. Patel was quite successful in integrating other troubled regions such as Hyderabad Nizam's province with Bharat.
    26. During the Indo-Pak war of 1948 when Bharat was gaining back the Kashmir captured by the invaders, he prematurely went to the UN Security Council. This was a great strategic mistake. Bharat now wants to distance itself from 3rd party intervention in the dispute and the UN resolutions on this, but it is Nehru who did it in the first place.
    27. Moreover, We were winning the war against CHlN but Nehru didn't allow Bhartiya Air Force to participate and we lost Aksai Chin area
    28. No Initiative on Sri Lankan Tamil Problem
    29. Giving Away 55 Crores to Pakistan
    30. Usurping Congress Presidentship in 1929
    31. Nehru’s Undemocratic Elevation as the First PM
    32. Unplanned & Grossly Mismanaged Partition
    33. Article-370 thanks to Nehru
    34. Article 35A for J&K, Again thanks to Nehru

    43. Rebuffing Israel, the Friend-in-Need
    44. Scoring Self-Goal-Ministry Resignations, 1939
    45. Assam’s Security Compromised
    46. Aborted ‘Cabinet Mission Plan’ for United Bharat
    47. NWFP Blunder 1946
    48. Distorted, Self-Serving Secularism & Minorityism
    49. Not Seeking Reparations from the British

As somebody from the West I am impressed by this article and the value of its information. Perhaps Nehru erroneously misjudged China. There is a saying ' if an opportunity comes along, take it. You might not understand it, but you can always learn about it later'. It is time for India to take its rightful place at the UNSC.

    • @2sridhark
      @2sridhark 5 месяцев назад +3

Nehru did not want to join either bloc during the Cold War but as the world's largest democracy (even then!) was being influenced by US to join the Western Bloc. For Nehru to have accepted the offer of UNSC seat would mean joining the Western Bloc as no such offer comes without a rider.
Nehru ended up forming a Non-aligned bloc (along with Nasser, Tito and Sukarno) which has helped India forming an independent foreign policy free of any influence. India could benefit from both the blocs without being in any one of them!
Today India is very close to US and the West but still has a good relationship with Russia. This is the result of that policy of non-alignment by Nehru.

Nehru's choice to stand firm against joining in weakness was crucial. If we had, we'd still be seeking refuge, always dependent (see South Korea).
Had he taken this questionable offer, our situation could have been similar to the now Ukraine.
Though it's easy to criticize him in hindsight, Nehru's stance showed India isn't a pushover. His decision empowered us to become independent in decision making (e.g. pursuing nuclear technology) and achieve an authoritative voice on the global stage that we are proud of.
Irrespective of the political inclination, our leaders always worked in the best interests of our country. Respect them.

Of countless other blunders, signing an agreement with China on accepting Tibet as part of China was the biggest blunder that we pay for till today. Following this, Vajpayee (the blunder man reborn) reaffirmed this stupidity by signing a joint declaration with China in 2003 recognizing China’s illegitimate claim over Tibet (an independent state).
Tibet’s existence as an independent state meant a guaranteed security for us. We inhumanely allowed brutal and tyrant CCP to occupy our age old peaceful & friendly little brother, Tibet. We denied any assistance to Tibet during the illegal occupation when they needed us the most. Now, we are forced to pay the price spending billions on developing northern borders and posting mega arsenal up north to protect our borders from land grabbing instead spending this amount in building our economy and eradicating poverty!! We lost thousands of troops in 1962 war and then 1967 and in other clashes like galwan, etc. thanks to nehru the blunder man. There should be books and movies made based of this blunder man!

Also, UK and France, being our colonial masters, never agree for India become equal to them at that time. I am sure, Nehru would have acquired intelligence reports on the matter before politely refusing an informal offer by USA or USSR. Why we are not trying now to become a permanent member of the UNSC though we now have a better international reputation because of Modi (according to BJP), friendly with both USA and Russia and UK, France and China are not as strong as they were in the '50s?

Forget about the UNSC seat, if not in the past, we'll definitely get it in the future. But the most biggest blunder of Gandhi-Nehru duo is stopping the complete population exchange despite the country being divided on the basis of religion and on top of that imposing secularism (which is one sided secularism in reality) forcefully without having dialogue with the people and thereby denying Dharmic religions(Hinduism, Sikhism, Jainism, Buddhism) their permanent homeland. As a result, Muslims got three nations namely India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Dharmic people got none.
Hypothetically thinking, just imagine for a moment how peaceful India could have been and how much progress India could have achieved with better standard of living if we had gone for complete population exchange in 1947. Every soldier who got martyred and still getting martyred in Kashmir and civilians getting brutally killed in other religiously motivated attacks is because of this blunder committed by these Gandhi-Nehru duo which cannot be undone in present circumstances. The Indian Constitution is the biggest conspiracy against the Dharmic people which is a weapon for radical Islamists to exploit it in their favor. Sometimes I feel there must be another Court above the current Supreme Court to try these judges who give hypocritical judgements with sheer biasness and doesn't act on cases and sometimes even dismisses the PIL's where a Dharmic person/cause is the victim of radical Islamists/leftists/communists. May God save Bharat from the traitors/hypocrites of India.

how do you know it is 'well researched and accurate assessment'? It is just a monologue, so what ever she says is a one sided opinion. She missed on imp point, China too had a veto.
Let me put a counter argument, Nehru was right in his assessment that these were not serious offers. Why? Because China was still a part of UNSC with a Veto. Nobody is talking about that, and why China would have allowed India in the UNSC? Remember, both the Communists and Nationalists in China agreed on their India view that India is encroaching on their territory and viewed India as an enemy. Even today Taiwan has NOT officially accepted Arunachal Pradesh and Ladakh as Indian territory. They just don't talk about it, because right now they have a bigger China problem.
Back then we would have faced the same China problem, that we are facing even today.

    • @kunti_putra
      @kunti_putra 10 месяцев назад

She has cherry picked only one small section of a much wider problem (who real China was). Both USA and USSR were trying to use India as a tool in the great power struggle. There are many articles written on this topic by well recognized historians, and they have made valid reasons why India would have not got UNSC seat even then because of the same China, and lack of honesty in their intent (US and USSR).

Wow thanks for educating me I was always perplexed at why India was been snubbed for a permanent seat. India simply didn't want to be pawn in a West vs East political game. • @ddb0831
      @ddb0831 9 месяцев назад +14

India was not snubbed. Nehru played second fiddle to China. He was more concerned about China’s feelings than India’s interests. He acted as if India and Indians are subservient to China and the Chinese. He portrayed an inferiority complex. He should have accepted the offer with the condition that China be included and retained. Today, India is fighting for that same seat for which they backed China . Are the Chinese magnanimous enough to return the favor and push for a seat for India? NO! The Chinese look down upon India and obstruct and block them everywhere. India is paying the price for Nehru’s inferiority complex.

      @kajalpertin3084 5 месяцев назад +3

So misleading. The title of the video itself is wrong. India was never formally offered a permanent UNSC seat. The admission of a new member would have required a unanimous support of the UNSC (veto power). But given how divided the permanent members were between themselves, it was just impossible. There were indeed "offers" of a UNSC seat to Nehru but they were not such offers to which he could have simply said "yes" & made India a member of the UNSC. These "offers" were from individual member-states and not the entire body of the UNSC and so even if Nehru had accepted those, the other members would have simply vetoed any resolution to that effect. The first "offer" was from the US, but it was not one with good intentions. The US's offer was to replace China with India in the UNSC, which would have been vetoed by the USSR without second thoughts and which would have made China and India arch enemies during a time when Nehru's main policy was to direct much of the available resources to the betterment of our living conditions and not to wars. So, it was clearly a bait to entice India into an alliance with the West against the Socialist bloc led by the USSR and China. And Nehru did not even reject this "offer" outright. His response was that India has to be given a permanent seat but not at the cost of removing China from its seat because it would have led to the boycott of the UN by the powerful communist countries like the USSR and China. The UN would have lost its legitimacy and neutrality: it would have just become an extension of the Western power bloc incapable of preventing wars because why would the USSR and China continue to listen to it when its affairs was run only by the US? it would have failed just like the League of Nations. Moreover, this offer was made in 1950 and so India didn't have enough reasons to hate China like today. Nehru's intention was not to keep China happy as she suggests it might have been a possibility. Nehru was a person whom you'd call a wonderful friend if his domain was not politics but your personal life because he wished well for everybody and that included China too. If China betrayed him, it's not his fault but China's. Who in his or her right state of mind would even suggest that Nehru wanted to appease China when he could have simply joined the US-led group and received better technology, better military support and more money? And remember, despite all these arguments supporting why Nehru "rejected" this "offer", it was still not an offer in the sense that accepting it would have made India a permanent member of the UNSC just like that. The USSR would have 1000% vetoed this proposal from the US because it was the Cold War period and it would inevitably lead to India becoming a part of the Western bloc thereby further isolating the USSR. Even today, Russia threatens to respond to NATO expansion with wars.
The other "offer" was from the USSR whose Premier Nikolai Bulganin said this to Nehru in 1955 in one of their conversations: "While we are discussing the general international situation and reducing tension, we propose suggesting at a later stage India’s inclusion as the sixth member of the Security Council." Did that even sound like an offer? Also, the US and Pakistan had extraordinarily good relations during this time.
These so-called "journalists" have no conscience. There is no way they don't know this, yet they choose to mislead people for sensationalism and views.

@@anitasoans728 can you explain Nehru's reasons to continuously reject unsc seat and lie about the offers in parliament.
there are books on Nehru's mistakes, especially Nehru's Himalayan Blunders by former Delhi High court judge. 'Himalayan' mentioned by Palki in this video also hints at it.

What Nehru did in the past has nothing to do with the present. No books can explain what really happened. It is none of our business to question what our leaders did in the past. They were privy to certain confidential information which they can not explain to each and every one. We just got to trust their judgment and decision, even if some of the things which they did, does not make sense to us.
Why is Palki not talking about the atrocities happening in Manipur. Why has she not called out the PM of literally selling this country to Adani Group. That is a current blunder that the PM has done and a more serious one than any other blunders done by any past ministers. Why is no one talking about that? Why is our PM shutting is mouth on all the communal divide that is instigated deliberately by his party members and he too is guilty of that. That too is unforgivable. Why is Palki not breathing a word about that. It is because she is one of those who is bought up by the BJP.

Yes, you should learn from history. However, don't use history to destroy your present and future. This is exactly what the BJP together with the Godi media are doing, bringing up history, re- writing it to suit their fancy and agenda, all with a selfish motive to take control of the whole country. And, the gullable people of India are buying into it and falling prey to this propoganda.
All this is meant to happen, the leaders are going to become dictators and we are all going to be their slaves. They are just preparing us for this. We were warned about this time in the Bible and it is all coming to pass, just as was foretold.

He was selected by Gandhi,or rather forced upon Indiaby Gandhi.
Many who believe Gandhi were British agents, working for British interests rather than Indian interests

Gandhi and Nehru were British creations to rule India through proxy and Britain managed to rule for 70 years, till Late PM Narsimha Rao became PM of India. Now you know why Britain hates today's India and especially PM Modi. All the wild hounds in the form of British print media and BBC are barking loudest against India.

Now, we are forced to pay the price spending billions on developing northern borders and posting mega arsenal up north to protect our borders from land grabbing instead of spending this amount in building our economy and eradicating poverty!! We lost thousands of troops in 1962 war and then 1967 and in other clashes like galwan, etc. thanks to nehru the blunder man. There should be books and movie based of this blunder man!

Today I just a video of a lady who was from soviet union he was all in tears when she was asked which one was best. She said i didn't cared if there were lines in the shopping complex i knew that everyone was even. The administration was best ...and she said we all were united. No discrimination based on religion, culture etc. I really felt how would have the people from the undivided India would have felt when their country was partioned. A country's whose people were displaced not only by Jinnah but also by Britishers who moved thousands of workers to Fiji, Suriname, Guyana etc. A country looted by Brits and left in shambles and how much courage would a normal nationalist person have taken to again stand back... And hope that they be a superpower again which is right place for a country like India.
