My grandfather did this for my mom when she was a kid. He told her that the noise from the vent was a family of mice. When she went to look she saw a little living room he had built.

Growing up my dad used to work at the Art Institute of Chicago. If you ever find yourself there. You must go and see the Thorne Rooms. It's like walking through a hall of paintings, except that behind the glass there are miniature rooms from all different historical settings. They are GORGEOUS, the detail is amazing! My favorite part was always looking out the doors or windows into other rooms or gardens hidden in the background. As a child I used to imagine Beatrix Potter style mice coming in and throwing parties or having tea time.

My mom has been doing miniatures as a hobby for almost ten years now... She's done two entire houses and one coffee shop so far. She has gotten to the point where she made every single thing for her latest one other than certain glass items. My favorite thing she's done is her first house though, because it's in a cabinet. Dollhouses started as ways for rich people to show off miniature versions of what rooms they were remodeling would eventually look like, and they were in cabinets! People usually don't even notice it's a dollhouse at first, but when they do they're always so enchanted by it. I came downstairs one day to find her giving a full tour to the guys who were delivering our new refrigerator. It's such a wonderfully pure and creative hobby.

Rachel!! Love love love the Mouse House!
When I was ten years old I was given a little 2 inch high realistic mouse figure ( it was 1970, so I take no responsibility for what it may have been made of😂😭). I had read The Rescuers, Stuart Little, all the little teeny mouse stories. I collected a couple more of these figures, and when I was 14, I spent a summer building them a house. I only had found objects as well as cardboard boxes, paper and paint, but I managed to make a sweet three story furnished home, as well as a mouse baby made of a pipe cleaner, in a walnut shell cradle, and I wrote stories about them. I later enclosed the box to look like a tree stump. I only had cloth and cardboard and glue, but I managed to create it so the front would open out. It had an out house in a large root. I decorated it for Christmas every year until I left home. Sadly, the house was destroyed by my first husband, but I was able to save some of the contents and most importantly, the mouse family.
I think you must be a kindred spirit! I also adore TLOTR, my "keeper" second hubby and I named our third daughter Eowyn.
    Adore your channel!

I subbed to your channel about 10 months ago because I loved the chicken wire ghost video so much and have vegged out countless nights since then watching your videos as I mentally recovered from the burnout I’ve been navigating. They’re so fun and just the right kind of vibes I need to turn my stress brain off and tap into things that make me happy. I just recently started the 5th book in Harry Potter to finally finish the series after many years of meaning to and I picked up some crafting hobbies again in an effort to bring the vibes I get from your channel into my irl. In the KC suburb Overland Park, there was a walking trail where for a few years folks were making fairy houses. I was visiting my parents at the time and joined in the fun.
The bummer was that it was on the backside of a softball/baseball complex and kids (we assume) started smashing them up for a while. But it was magical while it lasted.

Miniatures expert here. Congrats! You are going to start seeing in 1:12 scale! For my fireplaces, I strip most of the plastic off of flickering tealights with pliers, cover the bulb with orange, red yellow cellophane, then glue curls of bark, tiny sticks, rocks, whatever to fit what I am doing. Those chandeliers I attach with strong magnets so I can easily take it out to switch on and off, and replacement batteries are easy to find at Dollar Tree. Most of the time I build the fireplace out of a mac and cheese box. You can texture it with hot glue, caulk, etc. Great work and well done, when did you reach 1 million???

Canned troll bogeys. Really can't deny that one!
Shaprie stained glass windows for the win!!!
My husband and I have been making a lot of D&D mini scale terrain and buildings, I made my fireplace poker set and some chandeliers out of wire with jeweller's pliers, seed beads for candleholders, etc.:) and my rabbit likes eating the bark off of twigs so once he's done with them, I cut up the twigs into firewood and glue it as needed. Craft foam strips also work well as hardwood flooring, and cardboard cereal boxes make amazing roof shingles :)
And an alternative to the heat gun for texturing foam, with that white craft foam that feels like styrofoam food packaging, we use a dead ballpoint pen, it makes just the right groove for plank lines. You can try pencils of varying levels of dullness to get different widths of lines too. We like the wider (duller) pencils for details like mortar lines in brickwork, and rolling with a krinkled foil ball makes a great stone or brick texture on that kind of foam.
Oh, and when yo're diving into the recycle bin for craft supplies, cheap cardboard egg cartons with the really rough side!!! Great for stucco, bricks, stone, cobblestones... and you can sort of wet and shape it a little too.
My favourite trick for chunky paint is to mix some drywall compound powder into the paint. I suppose anything fine would work as long as it doesn't chemically change the paint.
I am now tempted to make a D&D scale throw rug...
Well done, the whole thing looks wonderful!!

I grew up during the last miniature explosion, so I can safely say that the fireplace is probably an "antique" as I had one (or two) as a kid. It is absolutely ADORABLE!!! You should be able to buy a kit to light the fireplace, so you can have a flickering fire in Mouse Bag End.

    CW loss of pet
I’ve loved your videos for a while now, and usually I watch them while eating breakfast or doing my makeup. Today, though, I woke up to find one of my senior cats had passed sometime in the night. Watching this is a salve on my heart-I’m a huge LOTR fan and lived in Philly for almost a decade til January, and in West Philly there are numerous houses that have little Hobbit hole garden decorations in their front yards, and this reminded me of that. That little bit of magic I’d be on the lookout for, that would have me walking down new streets every so often instead of sticking to routine, going Hobbit hole-spotting. It’s those little things that make the world a better, brighter place. Thank you for reminding me of that on a day like today-it was sorely needed ❤️

As someone who made a kit dollhouse, I enjoyed this so much! (Why can I only give one thumbs up?!) During my building adventure I learned some dollhouse builders use a wood called "skinny sticks" for various things. I used them for flooring, moulding, and a "painting" frame. They're narrower even than standard Popsicle sticks. Just wanted to pass it on in case you continue on with miniatures and might like using them!
